New clinical evidence presented at PAINWeek 2026 demonstrates the powerful, long-lasting relief of TYLENOL® with Naproxen in post-surgical pain studies
Image File
Original HTML

TYLENOL® with Naproxen, a first-of-its-kind, non-opioid OTC option for the millions managing persistent pain, is backed by more than a decade of research, including Phase 3 data to be presented at PAINWeek

- In two rigorous Phase 3 clinical studies, findings demonstrated the effectiveness of TYLENOL® with Naproxen in both post-surgical dental pain and bunionectomy pain, which raises the bar on clinically proven effectiveness for OTC combination products.

- PAINWeek will also showcase Phase 2 proof-of-concept findings, demonstrating that TYLENOL® with Naproxen has superior efficacy to a prescription hydrocodone (opioid) combination.

- Study results support the recent FDA approval of the first and only over-the-counter (OTC) combination of acetaminophen (650 mg) and naproxen sodium (220 mg) in a single product, filling a longstanding need for a simple option that quickly delivers potent, long-lasting pain relief.

SUMMIT, N.J., Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- TYLENOL®, the #1 doctor-recommended pain relief brand, will present compelling research data supporting the clinical efficacy of TYLENOL® with Naproxen at the 20th Annual PAINWeek Conference in Las Vegas, September 8-11, 2026. The findings, drawn from two pivotal Phase 3 studies in post-surgical dental pain and bunionectomy pain, reflect more than a decade of rigorous clinical development behind TYLENOL® with Naproxen, a new, non-opioid, OTC combination pain relief medicine approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in July 2026.

TYLENOL® with Naproxen combines the fast-acting relief of 650 mg of acetaminophen with the long-lasting analgesic power of 220 mg of naproxen sodium (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) in a single dose that begins working in under 30 minutes and provides relief for 12 hours.

"For millions of people managing persistent pain, treatment often means choosing between short-term relief and more complex pain management options. As healthcare professionals and consumers continue to seek effective non-opioid alternatives to treat pain, TYLENOL® with Naproxen offers an evidence-backed option that combines two trusted ingredients in a single fast-acting, potent product, providing a simple approach for clinicians to recommend and patients to use," said Dr. Rajesh Mishra, MD, PhD, Chief Medical Officer, Kenvue.

Phase 3 Studies Demonstrate Superior Performance Across Two Rigorous Pain Clinical Models

The new data evaluated TYLENOL® with Naproxen in two rigorously studied models that have been shown to reflect the type of pain experienced in many common, real-world acute pain conditions.

In a Phase 3 placebo-controlled, randomized, double-blind, factorial clinical study in patients with moderate-to-severe post-operative dental pain, the fixed-dose combination outperformed both acetaminophen alone and naproxen sodium alone (Aleve1 220 mg) over a 12-hour period.2 It also delivered meaningful pain relief faster than naproxen sodium and lasted longer than acetaminophen.2

Separately, in a Phase 3 multiple-dose, placebo-controlled, randomized, double-blind clinical study in post-surgical bunionectomy pain, TYLENOL® with Naproxen delivered significant and sustained pain relief as compared to placebo.3 This is the first clinical study of an OTC-intended pain medicine in the bunionectomy model, a rigorous benchmark often used to evaluate prescription pain therapies. In this study, TYLENOL® with Naproxen reduced the total amount of opioid rescue medication used over 48 hours by nearly 40%, compared with placebo.3 Together, these studies demonstrate consistent effectiveness across distinct pain settings, from dental pain to post-surgical bunionectomy pain. These findings build on earlier research from a previously reported Phase 2 clinical study in post-operative dental pain, in which TYLENOL® dosed alongside naproxen sodium provided more effective and longer-lasting pain relief than a hydrocodone and acetaminophen combination.4

"Across these clinical studies, the fixed-dose combination consistently provided 12 hours of potent pain relief, in two distinct and well-validated pain models. Evaluating an over-the-counter option in post-surgical settings sets a high evidentiary bar for analgesic effectiveness, and these results give clinicians and patients meaningful data to inform pain management decisions," said Todd Bertoch, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Pain Research at CenExel Clinical Research, Inc., and a principal investigator on the TYLENOL® with Naproxen clinical program.

The PAINWeek presentations share the pivotal data from a clinical program composed of eight studies spanning more than a decade, making TYLENOL® with Naproxen one of the most extensively studied OTC pain innovations introduced in the past decade. Additional analyses and results from the clinical program will be presented at additional upcoming medical meetings in 2026.

TYLENOL® with Naproxen will be coming soon to major U.S. retailers nationwide. To learn more, visit www.tylenol.com or follow TYLENOL® on Instagram and TikTok.

About TYLENOL® with Naproxen and PAINWeek

How many studies and posters are being presented at PAINWeek?

TYLENOL® with Naproxen is featured across four scientific posters – the data from the pivotal Phase 3 dental pain trial will be presented for the first time and compared to the previous Phase 2 proof-of-concept dental pain trial. Data from a second pivotal Phase 3 bunionectomy trial will also be presented for the first time. In addition, there will be posters on the pharmacokinetic/mechanistic rationale and a national pharmacist practice survey – as well as a breakfast symposium, expert roundtable and interactive booth.

Is this the evidence that supported the July 2026 approval?

Yes, the evidence being presented at PAINWeek is part of the 8 clinical studies that supported the FDA approval for TYLENOL® with Naproxen. Additional analyses and study results will be presented at other medical meetings later this year.

Which pain types were evaluated in these studies?

Post-operative dental pain and post-surgical pain after a bunionectomy were evaluated in these studies.

What is TYLENOL® with Naproxen?

TYLENOL® with Naproxen is the first and only FDA-approved over-the-counter pain reliever that combines 650 mg of acetaminophen and 220 mg of naproxen sodium in a single fixed-dose. It is indicated for the temporary relief of minor aches and pain in adults and children 12 years and over and is available without a prescription. For children under 12, consult a healthcare provider.

How is it different from regular TYLENOL® or Aleve?

Single-ingredient TYLENOL® contains acetaminophen only. Aleve contains naproxen sodium only. TYLENOL® with Naproxen combines the fast-acting relief of acetaminophen with the long-lasting power of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, naproxen sodium – starting to work in under 30 minutes and delivering effective pain relief for 12 hours. By combining two well-established pain medicines that work through different mechanisms, TYLENOL® with Naproxen was designed to provide powerful pain relief while using lower doses of each ingredient.

How does TYLENOL® with Naproxen work?

Acetaminophen is believed to work quickly to reduce pain signals. Naproxen sodium, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), provides longer-lasting relief by targeting pain caused by inflammation. Combining them in a single dose delivers both fast onset and extended duration of pain relief.

Is TYLENOL® with Naproxen an opioid?

No. TYLENOL® with Naproxen is opioid-free. It is intended to expand non-opioid pain management options for patients and healthcare providers.

When and where will TYLENOL® with Naproxen be available?

TYLENOL® with Naproxen will be coming soon to major U.S. retailers nationwide. To learn more, visit www.tylenol.com or follow TYLENOL® on Instagram and TikTok.

How can consumers determine if TYLENOL® with Naproxen is right for them?

Consumers should always read and follow the Drug Facts label and talk with a healthcare professional if they have questions about whether TYLENOL® with Naproxen is right for them.

The growth of the carboxymethylcellulose calcium market is driven by its increasing use as a functional excipient in pharmaceutical formulations, particularly as a stabilizing, thickening, and suspending agent. Demand is supported by the expansion of oral and topical drug formulations, where carboxymethylcellulose calcium helps improve formulation consistency, viscosity, and product stability. In addition, the growing pharmaceutical manufacturing base across emerging economies is creating opportunities for excipient suppliers as drug production and formulation development increase. Increasing emphasis on high-quality pharmaceutical ingredients, regulatory compliance, and consistent excipient performance is further supporting the adoption of carboxymethylcellulose calcium in drug manufacturing. Moreover, advancements in formulation technologies and the development of specialized excipient grades are enabling manufacturers to meet the requirements of diverse pharmaceutical applications and broaden the commercial use of carboxymethylcellulose calcium.

The fine powder form segment is expected to grow with the highest CAGR in the carboxymethylcellulose calcium market during the forecast period.

The carboxymethylcellulose calcium industry is segmented by form into fine powder and standard powder. Among these, the fine powder segment is expected to record the highest growth during the forecast period due to its excellent dispersibility, uniform particle size, high surface area, and ease of incorporation into formulations. Fine powder carboxymethylcellulose calcium is widely used as a pharmaceutical excipient, particularly as a tablet disintegrant and binding agent, where its rapid dispersion and swelling properties support efficient drug release. Its consistent particle characteristics also enable improved formulation uniformity and processing efficiency during tablet manufacturing. Increasing pharmaceutical production, growing demand for solid oral dosage forms, and the adoption of high-performance excipients are expected to further drive demand for fine powder carboxymethylcellulose calcium.

Pharmaceutical grade to register the highest CAGR during the forecasted period in terms of value

In 2025, pharmaceutical grades are expected to register the highest CAGR in the carboxymethylcellulose calcium market due to its increasing use as a binder, diluent, and disintegrant in tablet and capsule formulations, where its swelling properties support rapid tablet breakup and drug release. The expansion of generic drug manufacturing and rising pharmaceutical production, particularly in emerging markets, is expected to increase demand for high-purity pharmaceutical excipients. In addition, pharmaceutical-grade CMC calcium must meet stringent pharmacopeial specifications, which supports its use in regulated drug formulations and creates higher-value demand compared with food and industrial grades. Growing adoption of solid oral dosage forms and continued development of pharmaceutical formulations are therefore expected to support the segment's strong growth during the forecast period.

Pharmaceutical excipients to grow with the highest CAGR in the calcium market during the forecast period

The pharmaceutical excipients industry is expected to register the highest CAGR in the calcium carboxymethylcellulose market due to the increasing use of calcium carboxymethylcellulose as a disintegrant, binder, stabilizer, and viscosity-modifying agent in pharmaceutical formulations. Its ability to swell in the presence of water supports rapid tablet disintegration and effective drug release, making it suitable for solid oral dosage formulations. Furthermore, the growing production of generic medicines and increasing demand for tablets and capsules are expected to drive the consumption of pharmaceutical-grade calcium carboxymethylcellulose. Increasing emphasis on high-quality excipients with consistent performance, purity, and compliance with stringent pharmaceutical standards is also expected to support market growth.

Asia Pacific to register the highest CAGR both in terms of value and volume during the forecast period

The carboxymethylcellulose calcium market has been studied in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, South America, and Middle East & Africa. The Asia Pacific region is set to become the fastest-growing market for carboxymethylcellulose calcium, mainly due to the growth of pharmaceutical manufacturing and the rising demand for pharmaceutical excipients in countries like China and India. The increasing production of generic medications, higher healthcare spending, and growing contract manufacturing activities are driving the wider use of carboxymethylcellulose calcium as a binder, disintegrant, and stabilizer in pharmaceutical formulations. Additionally, the expanding fields of medical devices and wound care, along with nutraceuticals, dietary supplements, and cosmetics, are significantly boosting the demand for specialty cellulose-based excipients. The presence of well-developed manufacturing and supply chains, especially in China and India, further enhances regional growth through cost-efficient production methods and rising domestic consumption.

CME Group to Enter European Dairy Market with Transition of EEX Dairy Products

CHICAGO and LEIPZIG, Germany, Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- CME Group, the world's leading derivatives marketplace, and the European Energy Exchange, the world's leading exchange for power and European energy, today announced an agreement for EEX to transition its European dairy business to CME Group, already home to the dairy risk management industry in the U.S.

Under the terms of the agreement, EEX intends to phase out its dairy business and support the transition of its suite of indices underpinning existing futures contracts to CME Group before the end of 2027. The transaction, which includes the European butter and skimmed milk powder indices, will mark CME Group's entry into the European dairy market, with plans to launch its own European dairy indices, futures and options in the near future.

"The European dairy market is one of largest in the world, and the addition of European dairy futures and options will allow CME Group to build on record activity in our U.S. dairy franchise and offer clients access to a truly global market in one venue," said Derek Sammann, Senior Managing Director & Global Head of Commodities Markets, CME Group. "As the global population grows, dairy is becoming an increasingly important protein source for diets around the world. With U.S. dairy volumes increasing 73% over the past five years, expanding into Europe is the natural next step in helping producers and consumers access capital efficiencies and manage regional price risk."

"We are proud of the leading European market for dairy derivatives that we built over the years together with our customers. With our renewed focus on core markets and related growth areas, we are delighted to have CME Group as our successor, bringing additional growth opportunities for the dairy community. We are committed to supporting CME Group and market participants with a smooth transition," said Tobias Paulun, Chief Executive Officer of EEX. "This will allow us to focus on our wider energy market offering and our drive to support the energy transition."

Dairy futures trading at EEX will remain available for the respective listed maturities, and there won't be any immediate changes to the setup of the pan-European butter and WECI indices.

The European Union accounts for roughly 20% of cow's milk production and more than 30% of nonfat dry milk exports globally, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Foreign Service. Much of that market remains unhedged.

Open interest in CME Group's dairy market climbed to a record 434,071 contracts on September 1, 2026.

The transaction is subject to pending closing conditions. For more information on CME Group dairy markets, please visit here.

Durable Surfaces Names Matt Joyner Chief Executive Officer

Leading concrete repair and restoration company appoints new CEO to support continued national growth in industrial concrete, testing and technical services.

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Durable Surfaces, a national provider of concrete repair, restoration, and technical services for industrial facilities, announced the appointment of Matt Joyner as Chief Executive Officer. Joyner will lead the company's business strategy and continued growth as Durable expands its capabilities and presence across the United States.

Joyner brings more than 20 years of executive leadership experience across the technology, robotics, aerospace and defense industries, with a career focused on growing businesses, developing new markets, building strategic partnerships and scaling organizations.

Most recently, Joyner served as Chief Revenue Officer of Ghost Robotics, where he helped lead the technology company through a period of rapid growth and international market expansion. He also previously served on the Board of Directors of the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) and as Vice Chair of its Defense Advocacy Committee.

"Durable has reached an exciting point in its growth," said Derek Cressman, co-owner of Durable Surfaces. As CEO, Joyner will work alongside Durable owners Jeff Desso, Derek Cressman and Marc Williams to establish and execute the company's long-term business strategy. Desso, Cressman and Williams will retain ownership of Durable and remain actively involved in the business, leading marketing, technology and technical services, and operations, respectively.

"Durable has built something special: a talented team, deep technical expertise and strong relationships with some of the country's leading industrial organizations," said Joyner. "I'm excited to join the company at this stage of its growth and work alongside the team to build on what they've created, strengthen the organization and pursue the opportunities ahead."

The appointment comes as Durable continues to evolve from its roots as a regional concrete contractor into a national partner serving complex industrial environments. Today, the company provides concrete repair and restoration, high-performance coatings, precision flatness remediation for robotics and automated systems, concrete testing and other technical services supporting warehouses, manufacturing facilities, distribution centers and increasingly automated operations.
