Huawei Unveils New UnifiedBus Computing Architecture for SuperPoDs and Clusters

SHANGHAI, Sept. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- In a keynote speech on computing architecture innovation at HUAWEI CONNECT 2026, Yang Chaobin, Huawei's Executive Director of the Board and CEO of the ICT Business Group, unveiled new details about the UnifiedBus interconnect architecture, announced a series of computing products based on this architecture, and explained how the company has collaborated with open-source communities to enable application innovation by customers, partners, and developers.

In a traditional computing architecture, resource utilization declines as a cluster scales. As little as 20% of a 100,000-NPU cluster's computing capacity is actually utilized by models, with a vast amount of compute sitting idle during data communications. A 10 trillion-parameter model, which requires massive amounts of intermediate data to train, far exceeds the capacity of the memory on a single accelerator under traditional architectures. Interconnection and communications between components within a cluster have become a key performance bottleneck for computing systems.

According to Yang, Huawei's solution to this bottleneck is its new computing architecture, powered by the interconnect technology called UnifiedBus, which facilitates collaboration between clusters and SuperPoDs. This architecture has been designed to support the boom in compute demand that is emerging as new agentic applications hit the market. UnifiedBus-powered computing systems have four key features:

- Unified protocol and memory semantics: More than ten interconnect protocols have been combined under the UnifiedBus protocol, which increases interconnect bandwidth from 100 GB/s level to TB/s level and reduces round-trip time (RTT) latency from 7 microseconds to 2 microseconds. This protocol also enables unified global memory addressing within SuperPoDs.

- Heterogeneous compute collaboration: UnifiedBus directly interconnects CPUs, NPUs, memory, and solid-state drives (SSDs) to enable decentralized, peer-to-peer access between them and flexible CPU-NPU mixing. In addition, tiered hardware acceleration for Transformer enables Attention-FFN disaggregation (AFD).

- Tiered storage with global pooling: UnifiedBus uses hybrid-media resource pooling to support the caching of activations. Double Data Rate (DDR) memory serves as the alternative memory for NPUs, reducing latency for search, recommendation, and advertising services, and doubling the performance of vector retrieval for 100 billion-level data items with thousands of dimensions. This also reduces the per-NPU HBM capacity requirements for the training of 10 trillion-parameter models, and improves cluster model FLOPs utilization (MFU).

- Optoelectronic interconnect and flexible networking: UnifiedBus serves as a global ultra-high bandwidth, ultra-low latency "data highway", enabling flexible scaling of compute.

Yang then moved on to unveil Huawei's newest UnifiedBus interconnect products that cover interconnection within cabinets, between cabinets, and across clusters. This enables elastic scaling from a single cabinet to a million-NPU cluster.

- Within cabinets, the UnifiedBus LinkBlade eliminates circuit losses with a cable-free design, which reduces copper cabling within a 4,096-NPU SuperPoD by about 196 kilometers.

- Between cabinets, the UnifiedBus LinkDevice supports 176 ports, with 1.6 Tbit/s bandwidth per port, delivering 280 Tbit/s all-optical interconnection. This is the industry's highest-bandwidth, highest-port-count high-speed bus-protocol interconnect device, with an RTT latency as low as 2 microseconds.

- Across clusters, the UnifiedBus UBG switch provides a massive radix fan-out capacity of up to 1,024, meaning it can support a million-NPU SuperCluster and evolution towards supporting tens of trillions of model parameters.

Yang also launched Huawei's UnifiedBus-powered agentic AI SuperCluster, which is comprised of TaiShan 950 and Atlas 960 SuperPoDs, OceanStor M900 memory storage, and a Xinghe UBG switch. This cluster enables diverse compute collaboration and tiered resource pooling.

Beyond SuperPoDs, Huawei has also applied the UnifiedBus technology to its compute appliances. The company has developed a new series of UnifiedBus-based appliances (supporting one to eight NPUs) and Kunpeng and Ascend modules, which enable small and medium-sized enterprises to run trillion-parameter models locally.

{"target_audience": "b2b", "is_medical": false, "ai_generated_title": "Huawei Unveils UnifiedBus Architecture to Fix AI Cluster Bottlenecks", "body_html": "<p><strong>Shanghai -- [CURRENT_DATE] --</strong> Huawei has unveiled a new computing architecture called UnifiedBus, designed to eliminate the interconnect bottlenecks that leave as little as 20% of a 100,000-NPU cluster's compute capacity actually utilized by AI models. The announcement was made by Yang Chaobin, Huawei's Executive Director of the Board and CEO of the ICT Business Group, in a keynote at HUAWEI CONNECT 2026.</p><h5>Interconnect bottleneck limits trillion-parameter model training</h5><p>Yang said traditional computing architectures cannot keep pace with agentic AI workloads because a 10 trillion-parameter model generates intermediate data volumes that exceed the memory capacity of any single accelerator. Idle compute time during data communication has become the primary constraint on cluster performance.</p><h5>UnifiedBus protocol lifts bandwidth to TB/s level</h5><p>UnifiedBus merges more than ten interconnect protocols into a single standard, raising interconnect bandwidth from the 100 GB/s range to terabit-per-second levels while cutting round-trip latency from 7 microseconds to 2 microseconds. The protocol also enables unified global memory addressing across SuperPoDs, allowing CPUs, NPUs, memory, and SSDs to access resources peer-to-peer through Attention-FFN disaggregation.</p><h5>DDR pooling doubles vector retrieval performance</h5><p>By using DDR memory as an alternative tier for NPUs, UnifiedBus doubles vector retrieval performance for datasets exceeding 100 billion items with thousands of dimensions, while cutting latency for search, recommendation, and advertising workloads. The tiered pooling also lowers per-NPU HBM requirements for training 10 trillion-parameter models and improves cluster model FLOPs utilization.</p><h5>New hardware scales from single cabinets to million-NPU clusters</h5><p>Huawei introduced three UnifiedBus products spanning intra-cabinet, inter-cabinet, and cross-cluster connectivity. The LinkBlade uses a cable-free design that removes roughly 196 kilometers of copper cabling from a 4,096-NPU SuperPoD. The LinkDevice supports 176 ports at 1.6 Tbit/s each, delivering 280 Tbit/s of all-optical interconnection with 2-microsecond RTT latency — which Huawei describes as the industry's highest bandwidth and port count for a bus-protocol interconnect device. The UBG switch offers a radix fan-out of up to 1,024, enabling a single SuperCluster to scale to one million NPUs and support tens of trillions of model parameters.</p><h5>Agentic AI SuperCluster combines four hardware lines</h5><p>Yang launched a UnifiedBus-powered agentic AI SuperCluster built from TaiShan 950 and Atlas 960 SuperPoDs, OceanStor M900 memory storage, and a Xinghe UBG switch, aimed at heterogeneous compute collaboration and tiered resource pooling at scale.</p><h5>Compute appliances bring trillion-parameter models to SMEs</h5><p>Beyond large clusters, Huawei extended UnifiedBus to a new line of compute appliances supporting one to eight NPUs, paired with Kunpeng and Ascend modules, intended to let small and medium-sized enterprises run trillion-parameter models on local infrastructure.</p><h5>Ascend teams with open-source frameworks on agent tooling</h5><p>Huawei said its Ascend platform is working with open-source frameworks including DeepSeek Harness, OpenCode, and openJiuwen to build open-source plugins for intelligent management, inference acceleration, and security. \"Huawei is committed to innovating at the system level, building a computing-foundation product portfolio, and going open source and open system,", "meta_description": "Huawei unveils UnifiedBus computing architecture and interconnect hardware at HUAWEI CONNECT 2026, targeting AI cluster bottlenecks and trillion-parameter model training.", "seo_keywords": "Huawei, UnifiedBus, AI infrastructure, NPU cluster, interconnect architecture, SuperPoD, agentic AI, HUAWEI CONNECT 2026", "companies": ["Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd."], "industries": ["AI Infrastructure"], "markets_regions": ["China", "Global"], "news_type": ["product_launch", "technology_unveiling"], "products": ["UnifiedBus"], "themes": ["digital_transformation", "product_innovation"], "events": ["HUAWEI CONNECT 2026"], "cta_text": "Details on UnifiedBus architecture and interconnect products were presented at Huawei's ICT Business Group keynote.", "learn_more": "", "fact_check": {"accuracy_score": 100, "legal_risk": "low", "corrections_made": [], "recommendation": "publish"}}

Best UV Protection Sunglasses (2026): Quay Highlighted Among Stylish Options for Everyday Sun Protection by Expert Consumers

Best UV Protection Sunglasses (2026): Quay Highlighted Among Stylish Options for Everyday Sun Protection by Expert Consumers

NEW YORK, Sept. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Expert Consumers has recognized Quay for its approach to everyday sunglasses that combines 100% UV protection with fashion-focused frame designs. The recognition comes as consumers place greater emphasis on eyewear that can provide reliable sun protection without sacrificing style, comfort, or affordability.

Best UV Protection Sunglasses

- Quay - stylish sunglasses with 100% UVA and UVB protection, with multiple sizes, shapes, and lens options for a wide variety of faces.

The search for the best UV protection sunglasses often begins with lens performance. However, frame design, fit, lens technology, and price can also influence the buying decision. Quay's current sunglasses collection addresses these considerations with a broad selection of frame shapes, lens options, and price points.

Strong UV Protection Without Sacrificing Style

UV protection remains one of the most important factors when selecting sunglasses. Quay states that its sunglasses provide 100% UV protection, including UVA and UVB protection across all of its eyewear, including optical and bluelight. The brand offers styles ranging from aviators and cat-eye frames to square, round, oversized, and shield silhouettes.

The distinction between UV protection and lens appearance is important. Darker lenses do not automatically provide greater UV protection. Lens color primarily affects visible light, while UV protection depends on the lens material or protective technology.

Polarized lenses such as the In the City, Soundcheck and Flip Side models represent another consideration. Quay offers polarized options designed to reduce glare, which can be useful around reflective surfaces and during bright outdoor activities. Polarization and UV protection serve different functions, so consumers should check both specifications when evaluating sunglasses.

Frame style can also influence how frequently sunglasses are worn. Quay's collection includes understated designs alongside more prominent silhouettes, giving consumers the ability to prioritize personal style while maintaining UV protection.

100% UV Protection Sunglasses $80 and Under

Price is another practical consideration when searching for the best UV protection sunglasses. Effective UV protection does not necessarily require a high price, but shoppers should verify the protection specifications before purchasing.

Quay currently lists the Nightfall sunglasses at $80, and is available in multiple colors and finishes, including polarized options.

The Nightfall collection demonstrates how an $80 pair can combine a fashion-oriented silhouette with practical lens features. Pricing and availability can change, so current product listings should be checked before purchase.

For consumers shopping within this budget, several factors can help determine whether a pair is suitable for everyday use:

- UV protection: Look for an explicit 100% UVA/UVB or equivalent UV protection specification.

- Fit: Frames should sit securely without creating excessive pressure around the temples or nose.

- Lens coverage: Larger designs can provide broader coverage around the eyes.

- Glare reduction: Polarized lenses can help reduce reflected glare in bright conditions.

- Durability: Materials and construction can influence how well sunglasses hold up to regular use.

This approach puts eye protection ahead of purely cosmetic considerations while still leaving room for personal style.

Can Clear Glasses Block UV Rays?

Clear lenses can provide UV protection. Lens transparency does not determine whether ultraviolet radiation is blocked.

The key consideration is the lens specification. A clear lens can be manufactured with UV-blocking properties, while a dark lens should not be assumed to provide UV protection simply because it appears darker. That said, all of Quay's lenses are manufactured with UV blocking properties.

Current prescription models such as COULD NEVER RX and GAME OVER RX list 100% UVA/UVB protection as part of their lens options. The available prescription lenses include clear options, demonstrating that UV protection and visible lens tint are separate considerations.

For consumers wearing clear glasses outdoors, checking the manufacturer's stated UV protection is more reliable than judging protection by the appearance of the lenses.

Clear eyewear also serves a different purpose from sunglasses. Even when clear lenses provide UV protection, sunglasses can reduce visible brightness and glare, which may make outdoor conditions more comfortable.

Choosing Sunglasses for Everyday Wear

The most useful sunglasses are often the ones that fit naturally into daily routines. Commuting, driving, walking, traveling, exercising, and spending time outdoors can all involve regular exposure to sunlight.

Quay's range includes lightweight frame options and multiple shapes designed for different preferences. Some styles also feature adjustable nose pads, while polarized collections provide an option for consumers who frequently encounter glare.

Prescription wearers can also find selected Quay frames designed for prescription lenses. Current prescription sunglass options include different lens tints and lens materials, depending on the selected frame and prescription requirements.

Fit remains an important consideration. Frame measurements such as lens width, bridge width, temple length, and overall frame width can help consumers compare a new pair with glasses already worn comfortably.

Why Quay Is Gaining Attention in 2026

Expert Consumers' recognition of Quay reflects a broader shift in how consumers evaluate sunglasses. Eye protection remains central, but modern shoppers also expect eyewear to complement personal style and everyday routines.

Quay's current collection combines 100% UV protection with a wide selection of frame shapes and lens treatments. The brand also offers options across different price points, including the currently listed Nightfall style for shoppers seeking 100% UV protection within an $80 budget.

For consumers researching the best UV protection sunglasses, the fundamentals remain straightforward: verify UV protection, consider fit and coverage, evaluate lens features such as polarization, and select a frame that is comfortable enough for regular use.

Quay's approach demonstrates that practical sun protection and contemporary eyewear design can coexist, giving consumers more flexibility when selecting sunglasses for everyday outdoor wear in 2026.

Huawei Releases Intelligent WAN Target Architecture for ISPs

—Fortifying the Connectivity Foundation for ISP AI Services

SHANGHAI, Sept. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- On September 17, during HUAWEI CONNECT 2026, the roundtable themed "Intelligent WAN, Fortifying the AI Services Connectivity Foundation for ISPs" concluded in Shanghai. The event brought together global ISP experts and partners exploring industry trends, solutions, and best practices. At the roundtable, Huawei unveiled its Intelligent WAN Target Architecture to unlock the potential of AI and computing power in the intelligent era.

Wayne Zhou, Vice President of Huawei's ISP Computing and Network Infrastructure BU, highlighted that AI commercialization is accelerating, enabling asset-heavy players to monetize their capabilities through lightweight services. New trends are reshaping the ISP sector. Moving beyond mere pipelines, ISPs are leveraging edge nodes and their unique advantages to integrate connectivity, computing, and APIs, transitioning from selling bandwidth to delivering AI services. Meanwhile, they are building a unified, intelligent, and service-aware WAN to enhance AI readiness and drive continuous evolution.

Ado, CEO of Huawei's Wide Area Network Domain, introduced the Intelligent WAN Target Architecture. He noted that agentic AI is driving three network shifts: connections shift from humans to agents; traffic patterns shift from heavy downlink traffic to massive uplink traffic; and network experience assurance expands from specific applications to the entire agent workflow. To navigate and leverage these shifts, ISPs must fortify their networks. He proposed prioritizing three strategic pillars: First, building a hierarchical, modular, and standardized IP+Optical converged target architecture. This empowers ISPs to rapidly expand their presence, deliver services, and enhance network resilience, accelerating AI service rollouts. Second, focusing on end-to-end user experience to transform network capabilities into definable, measurable, and deliverable differentiated services. This drives the monetization of both network capabilities and AI. Third, elevating intelligent O&M capabilities. Through tools like Network Digital Map, fault-locating agent, and AI assistant, ISPs can significantly reduce OPEX and improve O&M efficiency. He also proposed an evolution roadmap for target WANs, helping ISPs seize new growth opportunities in the AI era.

At the roundtable, Lintasarta Indonesia, SiliconFlow China and Telconet Ecuador shared their AI services and insights into intelligent network deployment. Participating ISP experts contributed valuable insights, providing actionable guidance for network planning and deployment in the AI era.

Moving forward, Huawei will continue to strengthen its innovation and investment in the ISP and computing network fields, collaborating with customers to usher in a new intelligent future.
