SciBase secures first payer coverage with Highmark, marking a major commercial inflection point

STOCKHOLM, October 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ --SciBase Holding AB ("SciBase") (STO: SCIB) a leader in advanced technology for the detection and prevention ofskin disease, announced today that Nevisense has received its first positive medical policy from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, one of the largest Blue Cross Blue Shield organizations in the United States.

The decision marks a major milestone in SciBase's U.S. commercialization strategy and changes the reimbursement landscape for Nevisense. For the first time, eligible use of the technology can move from a predominantly cash-pay model into covered care through a major U.S. private insurer, reducing one of the most significant barriers to broader clinical adoption.

SciBase has already established strong commercial momentum in the United States without broad private payer reimbursement. The addition of coverage introduces a new growth driver to an existing business, expanding the number of dermatology practices and patients that can access Nevisense within a reimbursed model.

"This is a defining milestone for SciBase and an important step forward in the development of our U.S. business," said Pia Renaudin, CEO of SciBase. " Highmark coverage begins to remove one of the most important barriers to scale and creates the opportunity to reach a substantially larger portion of the U.S. market. Reimbursement now becomes an additional driver of growth in a business where demand for our technology has already been established."

The United States is SciBase's largest commercial opportunity. Approximately 6,500 to 7,000 private dermatology clinics operate in the U.S., with around 6,000 considered relevant for Nevisense, and an estimated 4 to 4.5 million skin biopsies are performed annually.

The Highmark decision represents more than the addition of a new payer. It begins to address one of the principal constraints on U.S. commercial scale and creates a pathway to convert established clinical adoption into broader reimbursed utilization.

Highmark, together with its Blue-branded affiliates, is one of the largest Blue Cross Blue Shield affiliated organizations in the United States, serving over 7 million members across multiple states.

For dermatologists, reimbursement can reduce the financial barrier to incorporating Nevisense into care for eligible patients while expanding patient access to objective, non-invasive technology that can support the assessment of suspicious skin lesions.

SciBase will continue its engagement across the U.S. payer market while expanding commercial activity in geographies where reimbursement is available.

What the policy covers

Under the policy, Highmark considers EIS medically necessary when a dermatologist is evaluating a clinically atypical suspicious pigmented lesion and is considering a biopsy.

The procedure is reported with CPT code 0658Tand the key criteria include:

- Melanoma is part of the differential diagnosis

- The lesion is on the trunk or extremities and measures 2 mm to 20 mm

- The patient is 18 or older

- The lesion is not on a mucosal surface, palm, sole or nail, and is not ulcerated, bleeding or recently traumatized

- The device is FDA-approved and used by a dermatologist trained in clinical and dermoscopic evaluation of pigmented lesions

- The policy applies to all Highmark commercial insured lines of business and to self-funded (ASO) employer groups that elect it. In support of its position, Highmark cites the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines for Cutaneous Melanoma (Version 2.2026), which list EIS among technologies that may aid detection of new primary melanoma, and American Academy of Dermatology guidance on emerging noninvasive diagnostics.

Cumulus Neuroscience and Transpharmation Partner to Carry Objective EEG Measurement from Preclinical Research into First-in-Human Studies
Image File
Original HTML

The two companies will work jointly with biopharma sponsors to provide a bridge between pre-clinical work and first-in-human studies, aligning quantitative EEG and cognitive endpoints across species so that a single objective measure of brain function follows a molecule from animal models into first-in-human trials. A cross-species analysis presented by the partners in February 2026 showed a conserved ketamine EEG signature in mouse, rat, dog, and human.

BELFAST, Northern Ireland and LONDON, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Cumulus Neuroscience, the digital biomarker company behind the NeuLogiq® Platform, and Transpharmation Ltd., a scientist-led preclinical neuroscience contract research organisation (CRO), have entered a strategic partnership to support central nervous system (CNS) drug developers through the preclinical-to-clinical transition. The two companies will engage jointly with biopharma sponsors preparing to enter first-in-human studies, aligning the quantitative EEG (qEEG) endpoints and behavioral domains evaluated in Transpharmation's preclinical models with those deployed on the NeuLogiq Platform in the clinic and in participants' homes.

CNS drug candidates have one of the lowest probabilities of success of any therapeutic area, with an estimated 6.7% progressing from nonclinical development to FDA approval (Sertkaya et al., JAMA Netw Open, 2024). One contributor is a discontinuity in measurement that occurs at precisely the moment a clinical development programme becomes most expensive. Preclinically, sponsors generate behavioral and electrophysiological data under tightly controlled conditions. On entering the clinic, the endpoint typically switches to subjective symptom scales and questionnaires, administered infrequently, in heterogeneous populations and noisy settings. When an early clinical study then fails, the sponsor is often unable to determine whether the mechanism was wrong, the exposure inadequate, the endpoint insensitive or the population unsuitable.

EEG offers a route around this discontinuity. It is objective, quantitative, repeatable, and ethologically relevant, and it can be recorded in substantially the same way across species. Transpharmation has a long-established sleep EEG and quantitative EEG (qEEG) platform spanning rodent and canine models, with 26 endpoints benchmarked against clinical gold standards and expertise rooted in its founders' work on orexin and sleep pharmacology at GSK. Cumulus brings NeuLogiq, a multi-domain digital biomarker platform developed with 10 of the world's leading pharma companies, pairing an FDA 510(k)-cleared, self-applicable wireless dry-EEG headset with tablet-based gamified assessments for use in clinic and at home.

Under the partnership, the two companies will work together with biopharma sponsors from the point at which an asset is transitioning to first-in-human studies. Rather than each company scoping its portion of the programme in isolation, Cumulus and Transpharmation will jointly advise on which EEG paradigms to run preclinically in view of how those same measures will be captured once the molecule reaches the clinic.

The rationale for the partnership was set out in February 2026, when John Huxter, PhD, Global Head of EEG & Data Science at Transpharmation, and Florentine Barbey, PhD, Senior Scientist at Cumulus Neuroscience, co-presented a cross-species analysis at the 6th Annual Psychedelic Therapeutics & Drug Development Conference in New Orleans, using ketamine as a translational probe. In Transpharmation's preclinical datasets, ketamine produced a consistent dose-dependent EEG fingerprint in mouse, rat and dog models: a reduced spectral power in the approximately 10 Hz theta–sigma band and increased power in the 50–100 Hz high-gamma band, with effects tracking an approximately one-hour pharmacokinetic window. In a Cumulus study of 30 healthy adult male volunteers, a double-blind crossover design comparing a sub-anaesthetic infusion of racemic ketamine (0.5 mg/kg) with saline produced a quantifiable increase in high-frequency power in the same direction, captured on low-burden dry EEG before, during and after infusion and again at 24 hours, with paired blood sampling enabling direct PK/PD linkage. A parallel Transpharmation psilocybin dataset showed selective suppression of REM sleep over four hours matching the time course of plasma psilocin, giving a physiological readout of CNS 5-HT2A target engagement rather than an inference drawn from peripheral exposure alone.

"Our clients benefit from decades of cross-species translational experience, and qEEG has long been one of the most predictive and back-translatable tools we offer," said Dr Mark Duxon, Chief Executive Officer of Transpharmation. "What this partnership adds is the other half of the bridge. Working with Cumulus means we can help a client design a preclinical EEG and behavioral package knowing precisely how those endpoints will be captured once the programme reaches the clinic — and that is a conversation worth having before a Phase 1 protocol is finalised, not after the data are in."

Continuity of measurement across all phases of clinical development only delivers value if the clinical measurement is deployable at scale. The NeuLogiq Platform is designed for use by non-expert clinic staff and patients, enabling structured sampling in-clinic, and high-frequency longitudinal sampling in the home, without the site burden that would otherwise make robust neurophysiological assessment impractical.

"Sponsors have never had a shortage of preclinical data — they have had a shortage of preclinical data that still means something the moment the first human is dosed," said Tina Sampath, Chief Executive Officer of Cumulus Neuroscience. "Working alongside Transpharmation, we can sit down with a client and align on what will be measured pre-clinically and what NeuLogiq will measure in Phase 1 and beyond. That gives drug developers something scarce in CNS: a continuous, objective line of evidence that does not break at the species boundary."

Cumulus supports precision in CNS clinical trials for its industry partners by enabling in-clinic and remote monitoring of patients across multiple domains of brain function. Sponsors with CNS assets approaching IND-enabling work or first-in-human study design can contact either company to arrange a joint scoping discussion. To learn more, visit www.cumulusneuro.com.

About Quantitative EEG (qEEG)

EEG measures voltage changes generated by the coordinated activity of large populations of neurons, recorded from the scalp or brain surface. Quantitative EEG applies spectral and statistical analysis to those recordings to produce objective measures such as band power, connectivity and phase locking. Because many CNS-active compounds produce clear dose- and time-dependent effects on specific frequency bands, qEEG can serve as a pharmacodynamic biomarker of target engagement, efficacy and tolerability. Its high predictive and back-translational validity, and the fact that comparable readouts can be obtained in laboratory species and in human participants, make it one of the more directly translatable measures available in CNS drug development.

About the Preclinical-to-Clinical Translation Gap

The transition from preclinical research to first-in-human study is often described as the "valley of death" in CNS drug development. It is not primarily an indictment of animal models. Failures are more often attributable to insufficient attention to target exposure and engagement, to the complexity of the human clinical population, and to a failure to make use of both human and animal data through common objective measures. Where the measurement system itself changes at the species boundary, a disappointing early clinical result becomes difficult to interpret and therefore difficult to act on.

About Cumulus Neuroscience

With a mission to generate the data and insights required to accelerate diagnosis and management of central nervous system (CNS) disorders for millions of patients and caregivers around the world, Cumulus Neuroscience is advancing NeuLogiq®, an AI-based, multi-domain digital biomarker platform to enable better, faster decision making in neurology and neuropsychiatry clinical trials and patient care. Designed for and with 10 of the world's leading pharma companies, the platform enables decentralized trials and is already making a difference in the development of therapies for Alzheimer's Disease, depression and schizophrenia.

Kedrion: at ESID 2026, experts call for earlier diagnosis and greater awareness as Secondary Immunodeficiencies continue to rise
Image File
Original HTML

MAASTRICHT, Netherlands, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Secondary Immunodeficiencies (SIDs) represent a significant and frequently under-recognized healthcare challenge. Their clinical relevance has increased with the expanding use of immunosuppressive and biologic therapies, advances in the treatment of hematological malignancies, and the growing number of patients exposed to conditions associated with acquired immune dysfunction.

To address this situation, physicians, patient advocates, researchers and industry representatives gathering at ESID 2026 are calling for greater attention to Secondary Immunodeficiencies and the challenges faced by those living with these conditions.

Despite advances in understanding these disorders, SIDs are often identified late or remain under-diagnosed. Delayed recognition may lead to recurrent and severe infections, hospitalization, impaired quality of life, and other preventable complications. Improving awareness, promoting timely diagnosis, and ensuring consistent standards of care remain important priorities for optimizing patient outcomes.

Johan Prevot, Executive Director of the International Patient Organization for Primary Immunodeficiencies (IPOPI), said: "Secondary Immunodeficiencies are receiving growing attention across the healthcare community, yet significant differences remain in awareness, diagnosis and patient support between countries. Notably, a significant subset of these SID patients actually has an underlying, previously undiagnosed, PID. Ensuring they are recognized and adequately supported is becoming increasingly important."

"Awareness of Secondary Immunodeficiencies has improved in recent years," stated Dr. Silvia Sánchez-Ramón, Head of Immunology Department, La Paz University Hospital, Madrid, "but significant gaps remain. Earlier recognition, stronger collaboration among specialties and wider adoption of evidence-based practices are essential to ensure patients are diagnosed earlier and receive appropriate care."

"Progress in clinical management of Secondary Immunodeficiencies depends on strong multi-disciplinary collaborations as well as connections between science, clinical practice and patient experience," explained Gorana Dasic, Vice President, Global Medical Affairs Head at Kedrion Biopharma. "Through research collaborations, patient-focused projects and contributions in clinical and scientific advancements shared at scientific meetings, Kedrion is committed to helping build the networks and knowledge that can improve earlier diagnosis and more informed care."

At ESID 2026, Kedrion will present two posters: one on safety data relating to an Immunoglobulin therapy and another on the MAPPA survey initiative and its international expansion. Our exhibition booth will welcome clinicians and other healthcare professionals.

The MAPPA survey, developed by AIP APS (Italian Association for Primary Immunodeficiencies) in collaboration with Kedrion, collects real-world insights into the experiences of people living with Primary Immunodeficiencies across Europe. The project reflects the long-term collaboration between AIP and Kedrion, which works to build and nurture relationships with patient organizations and support initiatives that amplify the patient voice. During ESID, the project will present preliminary findings from its expansion from Italy to Portugal, Spain and Turkey, providing new evidence on patient pathways, diagnostic journeys and unmet needs.

Preliminary results highlight the ongoing impact of diagnostic delays, with more than half of respondents receiving a diagnosis after the age of 18 and 28% reporting permanent damage at the time of diagnosis.

Alessandro Segato, President, AIP APS, said: "Giving patients a voice means recognizing the value of their real-life experiences as an essential source of knowledge. MAPPA brings together data collected directly from people living with Primary Immunodeficiencies, through the collaboration of patient organizations across Europe. By turning these experiences into evidence, we can identify shared needs and challenges that may otherwise remain unseen. These insights can help strengthen awareness and contribute to improving diagnosis, care and support for people living with Primary Immunodeficiencies at a European level."

For Kedrion, advancing knowledge is an essential step toward addressing the evolving global challenges of Primary and Secondary Immunodeficiencies.

TRI Introduces AI-driven Risk Assessment and Connected Oversight in Latest OPRA Release
Image File
Original HTML

CAMBRIDGE, England, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- TRI has announced the latest release of OPRA, its risk-based quality management (RBQM) platform. The release introduces a connected approach to RBQM that takes teams from protocol analysis to live oversight without breaking the chain of evidence between them.

As clinical research moves towards more proportionate, risk-based quality management, teams need more than a static risk assessment. They need to know which risks matter, how they are being controlled and what happened when a signal required attention. OPRA 26.2 brings that context into one platform.

AI that provides a faster, more relevant starting point

RiskIQ, a new AI agent in OPRA's Protocol Insights module, analyzes an uploaded protocol and generates a first-draft assessment of Critical-to-Quality factors, risks and their relationships. It uses each organization's own CtQ types and risk categories, helping teams move beyond generic templates.

Risk managers can edit, accept or reject every suggestion before promoting the result into OPRA as their initial risk assessment. No AI-generated content enters a live study automatically, and every decision is audit-logged and exportable.

RiskIQ is also available as a standalone application that can be used with any RBQM platform

From identified risk to measurable control

OPRA 26.2 turns the risk assessment into an active part of study oversight. Each risk links to the Centralized Monitoring controls used to manage it, so risk owners can see when performance falls outside tolerance. Review-driven actions retain a clear link to the evidence behind them, while Controls Automation creates routine observations automatically.

Collaboration with accountability built in

Risk managers can invite cross-functional colleagues to review and comment on CtQs, risks and suggestions in OPRA, whilst retaining ownership of the final assessment. Teams no longer need to take the process offline into spreadsheets.

Focused subject data review

Organizations can now define their own review types, such as safety, eligibility or endpoint reviews, and specify the data each one covers. Change logs show reviewers exactly what has changed since their last review. Every review is tracked and summarized, so medical monitors and CRAs can pick up where they left off and demonstrate compliance.OPRA 26.2 is available from 14th October 2026. Solidion's patented anode technology and PEAK UPS design target the space, lifespan and cost demands of AI-scale infrastructure.

DALLAS, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Solidion Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: STI) ("Solidion Technology" or "the Company"), an advanced battery technology solutions provider, today reaffirmed its commitment to address energy storage for artificial intelligence and data center infrastructure, centered on its PEAK Series uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system.

As AI workloads increase the power density of data centers, operators face growing pressure on the systems that keep facilities running during grid disruptions. Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) batteries take up floor space that could otherwise hold AI servers and additional computing equipment, and they require periodic replacement.

Solidion's approach is built around its PEAK Series, a UPS battery system built for AI data centers using its proprietary 5500 silicon-carbon anode cell, designed for AI data center environments and well positioned to address these evolving requirements.

The Company's strategy focuses on three priorities:

- Energy density and space efficiency: Based on Company testing, PEAK is designed to reduce UPS footprint by up to 30%, freeing floor space for servers.

- Reliability and longevity: The 5500 cell is designed to last up to three times longer than conventional backup systems, reducing replacement cycles and maintenance. Solidion is focused on advancing technologies intended to support demanding data center operating environments.

- Materials-level innovation: Solidion's portfolio of +385 patents covering silicon anodes, graphene and next generation battery chemistries, together with its pilot production facility in Dayton, Ohio, gives the Company a U.S. based foundation for developing data center energy storage.

"AI infrastructure represents a compelling market for advanced energy storage," said Jaymes Winters, Chairman and CEO of Solidion. "Our focus is on translating our technology into practical commercial solutions that address real customer demand. We are not betting on which chips win; we are focused on supplying something every data center needs."

Solidion intends to continue pursuing opportunities to apply its battery technologies directly to end users.

About Solidion Technology, Inc.

Headquartered in Dallas, Texas with pilot production facilities in Dayton, Ohio, Solidion's (NASDAQ: STI) core business includes manufacturing of battery materials and components, as well as development and production of next-generation batteries for energy storage systems, including UPS systems serving the artificial intelligence (AI) data center market and electric vehicles for ground, aerospace, and sea transportation. Solidion holds a portfolio of over 385 patents, covering innovations such as high-capacity, silane gas free and graphene-enabled silicon anodes, biomass-based graphite, advanced lithium-sulfur and lithium-metal technologies.

Argus launches first German RFNBO quota price assessments

Prices provide a new benchmark for the emerging renewable hydrogen market

LONDON, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Global energy and commodity price reporting agency Argus has launched the first ever ticket price assessments for renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs) used in Germany's road transport sector. The assessments provide a new benchmark for the emerging renewable hydrogen market.

The new assessments reflect the value of RFNBO hydrogen and products made from it, including e-methanol and e-methane. These fuels can be used to meet Germany's greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction rules. Germany has introduced a dedicated RFNBO quota for road transport, creating a mandated market for renewable hydrogen and related products and increasing the need for transparent, independent price references.

The price assessments are relevant for companies across a much wider area than Germany alone. Germany is expected to become a major importer of renewable hydrogen, so transparent price signals for its regulated transport market can help inform investment decisions and new supply projects internationally.

Road fuel suppliers who must meet the quota, as well as hydrogen suppliers, need independent RFNBO ticket price assessments. They can use these prices as reference points in negotiations and potentially to embed prices in supply contracts. The new assessments build on Argus' established coverage of Germany's GHG quota market and connect RFNBO values with the compliance market where the fuels are used. They also complement Argus' existing suite of calculated hydrogen production costs for a range of locations and production pathways.

Argus Media chairman and chief executive Adrian Binks said: "These new assessments bring much-needed transparency to a market that is attracting significant interest from hydrogen producers, suppliers and investors around the world. Germany's mandated RFNBO quota creates a clear link between renewable hydrogen and the road transport compliance market. Our assessments provide an independent reference that will help market participants to understand and negotiate that value."

The RFNBO assessments are published in Argus O.M.R. Fuels, Argus Biofuels and Argus Hydrogen and Future Fuels, making them available to customers in the fuels, biofuels and hydrogen markets.
