New Foundation brings industry stakeholders together to fund Bazel maintainers, community development and critical ecosystem infrastructure

Summary

- The Linux Foundation launched the BUILD Foundation to provide the leadership and sustained investment needed to tackle the Bazel ecosystem's largest challenges, giving organizations that use Bazel a way to formally join and help direct that investment.

- Thousands of companies commercially depend on Bazel, driving the need for coordinated industry investment in critical maintainers, community rulesets, tooling and infrastructure.

- The Foundation will support ecosystem growth and long-term sustainability through improved documentation, training and certification, developer advocacy, stronger tooling integrations and software supply chain security.

AMSTERDAM, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization enabling mass innovation through open source, today announced the operational launch of the BUILD Foundation with initial members ASML, Canva, Datadog, EngFlow, Figma and Spotify. The Foundation gives the Bazel ecosystem the leadership and sustained investment needed to take on challenges no single organization can solve alone.

The BUILD Foundation launches at a point of inflection for the software industry's reliance on scalable build tooling. As engineering organizations grow, their ability to ship code depends on a build system that scales with them – developer velocity, infrastructure reliability, and the cost of build and test processes all require systems that can handle the increasing load. For a growing number of companies, that system is Bazel.

Originally open sourced by Google in 2015, Bazel is now used at scale by thousands of companies across sectors like automotive, enterprise software, finance, and more. As Bazel adoption has grown, so has the ecosystem around it. The Bazel Central Registry distributes maintainership of language rulesets, libraries, and tooling that compose a thriving landscape of shared build infrastructure. The BUILD Foundation brings together industry stakeholders to formalize that common investment and ensure the ecosystem's long-term viability, security, and independent development.

"Bazel has become critical infrastructure for engineering teams around the world," said Jim Zemlin, CEO of the Linux Foundation. "The BUILD Foundation provides a neutral home where organizations can invest together in its maintainers, security and long-term sustainability."

Initial Foundation investments will target the top challenges identified in the 2025 Bazel User Survey Results. Key priorities include staffing dedicated technical writing for documentation, funding maintainers for bazel-contrib repositories, launching training and certification programs, improving IDE integration, and strengthening supply chain security through release attestations in the Bazel Central Registry.

Organizations interested in becoming Members of the BUILD Foundation can visit http://buildfoundation.dev/.

Supporting Quotes

"Building software at ASML's scale takes more than one tool. We rely on Bazel alongside several other build systems, and we have benefited for years from the open source communities behind them. The BUILD Foundation lets us move from being a user to being a partner: funding maintainers, improving documentation and tooling, and helping set direction for build engineering across many open source projects, not only Bazel. That is how critical open source infrastructure should be sustained."

– Emil Waijers, Principal Engineer, ASML

"As AI has multiplied developer velocity at Datadog, Bazel remains central to ensuring our build/test times stay stable even as our codebases multiply in size. The BUILD Foundation will provide investment and direction in this vital ecosystem and we look forward to participating in its success, both for Datadog and the entire build at scale community."

– Mike Sherov, Senior Engineering Manager, Datadog

"When I worked on Bazel at Google and co-created the first BazelCon in 2017, Bazel had users at hundreds of companies and no place for them to set priorities together. The BUILD Foundation is that place, which is important for alignment of those who are deeply invested in Bazel. It brings leadership and investment in the experience, maintainability, and larger directional evolution of everything that surrounds Bazel and the build at scale ecosystem."

– Helen Altshuler, CEO and co-founder of EngFlow

"Bazel has helped Figma measurably improve our build and test times and engineering velocity. Bazel was one of the very few build systems that could give every Figma engineer fast, reliably correct, single-command builds and tests across TypeScript, C++, Rust, Go, Ruby, and Python, with one dependency graph shared between CI and developer environments."

– John Firebaugh, Software Engineer, Figma

"At Spotify, we invest significant resources in continuously improving iteration speed for all our engineers. Bazel, for example, has become foundational to how Spotify engineers efficiently build and test software across platforms and engineering disciplines. We're excited to see the community come together through the BUILD Foundation to invest in solving common problems, provide long-term sustainability for those solutions, and help ensure the ecosystem continues to thrive for years to come."

– Patrick Balestra, Staff Engineer in Platform Developer Experience, Spotify

EvoDECO® Next: Sidel brings new freedom and material efficiency to roll-fed labelling

Sidel has introduced EvoDECO® Next, its next-generation roll-fed labelling solution, combining high-performance production with greater decoration freedom and significantly lower material consumption.

LONDON, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- "EvoDECO Next rethinks what is possible with roll-fed labelling. Producers no longer need to choose between industrial efficiency, material reduction and impactful decoration. By enabling partial labels on a simplified roll-fed architecture, we can help customers use less material, create new brand opportunities and maintain the performance their production lines demand," said Anne Philippe Lafon, Product Manager – Labelling, at Sidel.

Less material, greater brand impact

Depending on the decoration selected, Sidel says partial labelling can reduce label surface by up to 75% compared with a conventional wraparound label. The maximum figure is based on its illustrated 90° partial-label configuration, while a 180° configuration reduces label surface by 50%.

For high-volume producers, partial labelling can deliver significant savings. In one Sidel example, moving from a full wraparound label to a 90° partial label reduced BOPP consumption by 208.4 tonnes per year, cut associated CO₂ emissions by 346 tonnes and generated approximately €723,000 in annual raw material savings.[1]

Integrated technology to simplify high-performance production

EvoDECO Next has been engineered as an integrated platform, rather than an existing roll-fed machine adapted for shorter labels. Its architecture combines Cutter 2.0, Smart Buffer, Smart Camera and High-Speed changeover parts, with feeding, cutting, transfer and control designed to work seamlessly together.

At the heart of the new partial-labelling capability is the new cutting system, positioned directly on the transfer drum. The rotary cutting device handles shorter labels using two blades cutting faster at high speed.

The Smart Buffer is designed to absorb reel changes without variation in production speed. Its lean configuration requires no additional footprint or changes to the standard film path and allows the splicing operation to be managed at the nominal speed, helping protect overall production efficiency.

Meanwhile, the Smart Camera enables reference-mark-free label management. Removing the conventional reference mark and quiet zone increases raw-material and label flexibility, while creating further opportunities for material savings. Dedicated software supports autocorrection, improved auto-homing and enhanced diagnostics.

To find out more, including how businesses can access this support, visit the Sidel website.

¹ Calculation assumptions: Based on a 61,000 bottles-per-hour production line producing approximately 459 million bottles annually. Label surface area reduced from 20,160 mm² to 5,040 mm² per bottle by moving from a full wraparound label to a 90° partial label configuration. CO₂ and cost savings are based on Sidel modelling assumptions and may vary depending on product, material specification and operating conditions.

AITO Builds the Foundation for Global Growth Through Product Excellence and Market Recognition

PARIS, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- AITO, a high-end intelligent luxury mobility brand under SERES Group, showcased the engineering, intelligent technology and manufacturing capabilities behind its "Intelligence Redefining Luxury" philosophy at the 2026 Paris Motor Show. Building on its achievements in product development and customer experience, AITO announced plans to enter the European market in the autumn of 2027.

With the philosophy of "Intelligence Redefining Luxury", AITO brings together traditional luxury and technological luxury, and creates the New Luxury. It carries forward the established principles of luxury through exceptional performance, refined comfort and craftsmanship, while integrating intelligent technology across safety, cabin, driving and services.

Realising this philosophy goes beyond the intelligent technologies customers experience in the vehicle. It is underpinned by the engineering, manufacturing and localisation capabilities that shape each product, with the SERES MF Platform providing the core vehicle technology foundation and the SERES Super Factory translating these strengths into production.

SERES MF Platform: The Technology Behind AITO

Behind every AITO product is the SERES MF Platform, AITO's core vehicle technology platform. It integrates diverse powertrains, intelligent safety, an intelligent chassis, an intelligent central hub, cabin and ADAS integration and intelligent services within a unified architecture. Its diverse powertrains support BEV, REEV and PHEV configurations, providing flexibility across different powertrain needs, while intelligent safety provides all-round protection to help support a safer journey. The intelligent chassis is designed to deliver agile handling and a smooth ride, balancing driving control with comfort. By bringing these systems together, the platform helps deliver a more seamless driving experience for customers. Complementing these capabilities, the intelligent central hub provides high computing power and integration, coordinating key vehicle functions. This works alongside cabin and ADAS integration, which connects the intelligent cabin and driving systems to deliver a more seamless experience. Intelligent services provide always-on care, extending support beyond the driving experience. Together, these six comprehensive capabilities cover every facet of the ownership journey, encompassing life protection, vehicle safety, health, and privacy, establishing a new benchmark for intelligent mobility in Europe.

SERES Super Factory: Intelligent Manufacturing

While the SERES MF Platform provides the core vehicle technology platform, the SERES Super Factory translates these technologies into production. Behind the SERES Super Factory is its Industrial Brain, which enables seamless data connectivity across the value chain, integrating information, logistics and technology flows. It links more than 300 partners across the supply chain, supporting more efficient coordination.

The factory integrates nine major manufacturing processes and deploys more than 3,000 robots working collaboratively, with 100% automation across key processes. Its 10,000-ton-class integrated die-casting technology enables greater component integration, improves structural integrity and further enhances body rigidity and safety.

For quality control, automated inspection and AI-powered visual monitoring are applied throughout the production process. Each vehicle also has its own digital record to ensure traceability. From intelligent manufacturing to quality inspection, every step reflects AITO's commitment to delivering vehicles customers can trust.

SERES Ecosystem: Global Partnerships, Recognition and Performance

AITO's European and global development is further supported by leading suppliers and partners around the world, with collaboration across key vehicle component areas, including power batteries, thermal management systems, high-performance tyres, chassis and steering systems and passive safety systems. Through close collaboration with partners and careful selection of high-quality core components, AITO brings global expertise across key vehicle systems, complementing AITO's engineering and production capabilities and supporting product performance, quality and reliability from the outset. Alongside its global supplier network, AITO is also developing a localised service system covering intelligent diagnosis, mobility services, local spare parts supply and local customer service teams throughout the ownership.

These global partnerships, engineering capabilities and customer-focused services form an integrated ecosystem supporting AITO's products and long-term growth. AITO's development is also reflected in its brand value, industry and customer recognition in the global luxury automotive market. In April 2026, Brand Finance, a leading international brand valuation agency, released its Automobiles 100 2026 ranking. AITO was ranked among the Top 10 Global Luxury Automotive Brands by brand value, as the only Chinese brand on the list. At the same time, AITO ranked first among Chinese luxury automotive brands by brand value.

In China, AITO has also demonstrated strong market and industry performance. The AITO 9 achieved the highest overall score in the C-NCAP assessment, while J.D. Power's 2026 China New Energy Vehicle Initial Quality Study ranked it first in the luxury plug-in hybrid SUV segment. In a J.D. Power brand Net Promoter Score (NPS) study, AITO ranked first among new energy luxury brands for customer advocacy.

Today, more than 1.2 million customers have chosen AITO. News Highlights:

NTT, Inc. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Chief Executive Officer: Akira Shimada; hereinafter "NTT") held Partnership Day, part of the NTT Group's startup collaboration program "NTT Startup Challenge," in Singapore on September 3, 2026, for the second consecutive year. In 2026, NTT fully launched collaboration with the NTT DATA Group and broadened the range of business and regional challenges covered by the program. In response to challenges presented by nine NTT Group companies*2, 20 partner organizations*3 submitted 325 startup recommendations. Following selection and advance coordination, 79 business meetings were held. Based on the outcomes of these meetings, the participating companies will explore opportunities for collaboration toward proofs of concept (PoCs), commercialization, and other initiatives.

The NTT Group operates "NTT Startup Challenge," a Group-wide collaboration program designed to create new businesses and enhance and streamline existing businesses through engagement with overseas startup ecosystems. In 2025, NTT held the first Partnership Day as part of the program, advancing discussions on collaboration between NTT Group companies and startups recommended by partner organizations.

In 2026, based on the results of the previous year, NTT expanded the number of participating partner organizations from 15 to 20 and fully launched collaboration with NTT DATA.

A collaboration program aimed at creating new businesses with overseas startup ecosystems.

Led by the Global Business Department of NTT, Inc., the program organizer, the following activities are conducted:

NTT: Program planning and operation

NTT Group companies: Collaboration with startups and promotion of new business development based on each company's priority areas and available assets

A program that creates collaboration opportunities by inviting partner organizations to recommend startups capable of addressing business challenges presented by NTT Group companies and departments.

Unlike the open-call Pitch Day (scheduled for November 11, 2026), Partnership Day uses a referral-based approach that draws on the networks of partner organizations.

Led by the Global Business Department of NTT, Inc., the program organizer, the following activities were conducted:

The companies participating in this program will continue to explore collaboration with startups in Asia through NTT Startup Challenge. Building on the business meetings held at Partnership Day, they will assess alignment with each company's business challenges and available assets and explore concrete opportunities for collaboration toward PoCs, commercialization, and other initiatives.

"Great founders can come from anywhere, but access to opportunity is not always equal. Partnership Day helps close that gap by connecting entrepreneurs with partners who can help them validate, scale and grow."

Danaher Collaborates with NVIDIA to Advance Autonomous Science

Collaboration will bring together NVIDIA AI technologies and Danaher's scientific instruments, laboratory workflows and data

WASHINGTON, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Danaher Corporation (NYSE: DHR) today announced a collaboration with NVIDIA to advance autonomous science and help accelerate the pace of scientific discovery. As part of Danaher's broader effort to shape the future of AI-enabled science, the companies are working to combine Danaher's scientific instrumentation, automation technologies, laboratory workflow software and domain expertise with NVIDIA accelerated computing and AI technologies. The goal is to help researchers move faster from prediction to experimental evidence, creating a continuous learning cycle where experiments inform models and models help design better experiments.

"AI is reshaping how science is conducted, and Danaher is at the forefront of that transformation," said Julie Sawyer Montgomery, President and Chief Executive Officer of Danaher. "We are collaborating around a shared vision for more connected, adaptive and accessible innovation, helping researchers solve consequential challenges and translate discovery into human impact."

"The next era of scientific discovery will be driven by a continuous loop between AI and experimentation," said Kimberly Powell, Vice President of Healthcare at NVIDIA. "Together with Danaher, we are bringing accelerated computing and physical AI into the lab - connecting models with instruments and real experimental data, where experiments improve models and models design better experiments, helping researchers compress years of discovery into months."

Danaher and NVIDIA are working to integrate AI into scientific instruments through edge computing like NVIDIA DGX Spark, accelerated analytics and data processing with RAPIDS, real-time inference, scientific reasoning and foundation model technologies, including BioNeMo Open Models. Initial efforts focus on a select group of priority instruments, with the potential to expand across a broader portfolio over time. The companies are exploring how scientific and physical AI, such as NVIDIA Cosmos world models and Omniverse Digital Twins, can support more intelligent instruments and laboratory workflows, while keeping experimental evidence at the center of scientific decision-making.

The collaboration seeks to advance Danaher's commitment to connected science by bringing AI, accelerated computing, instruments, workflows and experimental data together to produce experimental evidence. Danaher aims to help researchers reduce the time and complexity of moving from an AI-generated prediction to the experimental evidence needed to act on it, while preserving customer choice in models, standards and technology providers.
