Two major screen adaptations invite travelers to explore the inspired landscapes, landmarks and marine wonders of Monterey County, California

MONTEREY, Calif., Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- From the verdant Salinas Valley to the vibrant waters of coastal Monterey, Monterey County takes the spotlight in two major screen adaptations this October. Netflix's East of Eden limited series, based on John Steinbeck's celebrated 1952 novel, premiered October 1, while Whalefall, the movie based on Daniel Kraus's 2023 thriller, arrived in theaters on October 16. Together, the screen debuts invite travelers to rediscover the California central coast destination that has long been a muse for storytelling across generations and for writers including Henry Miller, Jack Kerouac and Nobel Prize author John Steinbeck.

While East of Eden brings the agricultural heartland that shaped Steinbeck's literary legacy into the limelight, Whalefall, with filming locations along the Monterey Peninsula, plunges audiences into the depths of Monterey Bay, one of the most diverse marine environments on the planet. As the destination unfolds as its own character, travelers are invited to move beyond the screen to experience the settings of these dynamic stories.

"Monterey County is a destination that sparks creativity and inspires storytelling," said Rob O'Keefe, President and CEO of See Monterey. "Perhaps it's our dramatically beautiful landscapes, or the diversity of people, pursuits and passions woven throughout our naturally connected communities. Whatever the inspiration, these two stories offer an invitation to discover Monterey County in new ways, from exploring Steinbeck's Salinas Valley to the world-renowned marine life of Monterey Bay."

East of Eden: Discover the real Steinbeck Country and the Salinas Valley

More than 70 years after its publication, John Steinbeck's East of Eden introduces a new generation to the timeless story through a Netflix series starring Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist and Ciarán Hinds. Born and raised in Salinas, Steinbeck drew inspiration from the region's farm communities, sweeping landscapes and his own family history. The agricultural heartland he famously called the "Valley of the World" became more than a backdrop to the novel, emerging as a character as vivid and dynamic as his characters.

While the Netflix series was filmed outside of Monterey County, the places behind Steinbeck's masterpiece beckon discovery:

- Walk the streets of East of Eden: Salinas' historic Main Street and the Chinatown district are both central to the novel's setting. Visitors can discover local lore through History Phone, a free, self-guided audio tour through Oldtown Salinas.

- See Steinbeck's childhood home: The historic Steinbeck House in Salinas, where the author was born and raised, welcomes visitors for lunch in the restored Victorian home. Steinbeck drew inspiration from his family, including his maternal Hamilton relatives, who are featured prominently in East of Eden. Steinbeck is buried in the Hamilton family plot at Salinas' Garden of Memories Cemetery.

- Flip through the pages of Steinbeck's literary legacy: The National Steinbeck Center in Salinas is one of the nation's largest museums dedicated to a single author. Its exhibits, manuscripts, and personal artifacts illuminate Steinbeck's life and the people and places that shaped his writing.

- Explore the "Valley of the World": Travelers can explore the Salinas Valley's rich agricultural heritage through farm-to-table dining and local businesses such as The Farm, an agricultural education center and farming business offering organic produce and baked goods seasonally, year-round farm tours, and special family activities such as u-pick days at the onsite flower farm. The Monterey County Agricultural & Rural Life Museum in King City also touts more than a century of farming history. The picturesque Monterey Wine Trail attracts visitors from all over the world for its scenic vineyards and tasting experiences, and leads to Pinnacles National Park, where rugged peaks, dramatic rock formations and hidden caves bring the landscapes of Steinbeck Country to life.

- Follow in Steinbeck's footsteps: Beyond Salinas, visitors can explore Cannery Row in Monterey, the namesake of another of Steinbeck's celebrated novels, or join The Steinbeck Experience for guided walking tours exploring the author's life and literary connections along the waterfront. In Pacific Grove, the Steinbeck Cottage, where Steinbeck lived with his first wife Carol, is available to rent for long-term stays.

See Monterey curated a three-day Steinbeck itinerary to connect the places that inspired the author's most enduring works.

Whalefall: Dive into Monterey Bay

Monterey County storytelling extends beneath the surface of the Pacific Ocean in Whalefall, starring Austin Abrams, Josh Brolin and Elisabeth Shue. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the bay and its rugged coastline, Whalefall shines a spotlight on the stunning marine environments and delicate ecosystem that have earned the region its reputation as one of the world's premier diving destinations.

While the film's premise is fictional, the marine setting at the heart of its story is very real. Visitors captivated by Whalefall can explore Monterey Bay's coastal landscapes and ocean experiences:

- Visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium: Located along Monterey's historic Cannery Row, the world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium offers an up-close look at the wonders under the sea, including the bay's unique kelp forest habitat and abundant diversity of wildlife.

- Explore Above and Below the Surface: Paddle through coastal waters with Monterey Bay Kayaks, where visitors encounter sea otters, harbor seals and other ocean animals in their natural habitat. For experienced divers, local outfitters such as Monterey Bay Scuba, an actual Whalefall filming location and the only full service Dive Shop and Dive Charter in Northern California, offer opportunities to explore the biodiversity of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary through courses and classes.

- Go whale watching year-round: Monterey Bay is among California's premier whale-watching destinations, with opportunities to see humpback whales, blue whales, gray whales and orcas year-round. Local businesses including Princess Monterey Whale Watching and Monterey Bay Whale Watch offer excursions led by experienced marine biologists and naturalists, combining wildlife encounters with education and conservation with tours available all four seasons.

- Explore Whalefall's cinematic coastline: Film scenes unfold along the rocky shoreline of Pacific Grove, and visitors can take in sweeping views and watch for whales, sea otters, sea lions, and seals along the windswept dunes of Marina and the scenic coastal trails of Point Lobos Natural State Reserve, which has been called "the greatest meeting of land and sea in the world."

From the landscapes and agricultural communities immortalized by Steinbeck to the ocean depths imagined by Kraus, East of Eden and Whalefall offer two compelling reasons to rediscover Monterey County through the stories inspired by its scenic land diversity, history and natural wonders.

Plan for a multi-day affair to be immersed amongst all the literary magic across Monterey County's 12 distinct communities that offer more than 220 lodging properties at every price point. Stay One More Night and take advantage of a special offer extending a third free lodging night from more than a dozen participating hotels. Book between now and February 28, 2027, for stays November 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027.

Introduce Sutyo AI, A Personal Memory Companion
Image File
Original HTML

A personal memory companion that helps you remember what matters, capture important conversations, and stay on top of what comes next.

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Sutyo today introduced Sutyo AI, a personal AI companion designed to help people remember what matters throughout the day. The app brings together important details, conversation summaries, and reminders for meetings and follow-up actions, helping people spend less time keeping track and more time being present.

Everyday conversations are full of details that matter long after the conversation ends, a decision made in a meeting, an idea worth returning to, or a promise to follow up. Sutyo AI is designed to help people keep those details within reach and carry them into what comes next.

Remember what matters

Today's AI tools are becoming increasingly intelligent, but most of them are designed to answer questions and complete tasks rather than understand the person behind them. Traditional note-taking apps rely on users to organize information manually. Recording tools can capture conversations but often leave users with hours of audio they never revisit.

Life's most valuable information often emerges from small moments. Ideas, notes, and details from conversations become a useful reference for the moments when people need to remember what was discussed or decided. Sutyo AI is built to preserve those moments and makes them instantly actionable.

"Some of life's most meaningful moments happen in conversation, yet we often find ourselves busy taking notes instead of truly listening," said Kurt Huang, Founder and CEO of Sutyo. "We created Sutyo AI to help you take notes, so you can give your full attention to the person in front of you. We want to help you remember what matters and be present for the moments that make life meaningful."

Sutyo AI Builds a Memory That Grows With You

Sutyo AI helps people keep track of important meetings and follow-up actions with reminders. By helping users remember both the conversation and what needs to happen afterward, the app supports the everyday work of staying organized and following through. You can capture ideas through voice notes, save useful content from the web, screenshots, and documents, or simply use the voice keyboard to record ideas. Sutyo AI then turns these scattered inputs into organized memories on your behalf.

Over time, these memories are connected across three dimensions: facts, experiences, and observations, creating a personal knowledge system. The more you use it, the more it understands you.

Users can ask Sutyo AI about their own memories, including previous decisions and conversations, preferences, commitments, and important details, with links back to the original source whenever available.

For example, instead of searching through old notes, a user could simply ask:

"What was the name of the marketing agency Sarah recommended over coffee last month?"

Sutyo AI can retrieve the relevant details, whenever available, provide a link back to the original notes.

Sutyo AI proactively surfaces relevant memories, helping users revisit previous commitments, follow up on important conversations, and reconnect with ideas they captured.

Sutyo AI is designed to enhance your memory. For founders and executives moving between multiple meetings, creators constantly developing ideas, professionals managing customer relationships, and teams collaborating across many conversations, Sutyo AI helps keep these memories after the moment passes, because many of the most important things in life are not written down, but said.

It's your memory and your memory only.

Sutyo AI is built with privacy at its foundation. Original audio is processed and transcribed locally on your device, then deleted. Audio file is never uploaded to Sutyo's servers or shared with AI model providers. Your memories are never sold or used to train AI models. You remain in control of your data.

What's Next: Sutyo Cue

Sutyo AI is designed to be useful on its own, ahead of Sutyo's planned glasses launch. Sutyo Cue, the company's upcoming memory glasses, will extend the Sutyo AI experience. Further details about the glasses and their availability will be announced separately.

Cellid Showcases AR Glasses Technology at Exhibition Exploring the Future of Wearable Computing

TOKYO, Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Cellid Inc., a developer of displays and spatial recognition engines for next-generation augmented reality (AR) glasses, announced today that its AR glasses reference design featuring proprietary waveguide technology, along with disassembled components of the HJ1 AI Smart Glasses, are on display at the Computer History Museum's (CHM) new "Extended Reality: Visions of the Future" exhibit in Mountain View, California.

Opened October 1, 2026, and running through March 28, 2027, "Extended Reality: Visions of the Future" explores the evolution of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), smart glasses and AI-powered wearable technologies. The exhibit brings together more than 100 devices and artifacts spanning six decades of innovation, from early experimental systems to today's increasingly sophisticated smart glasses and wearable devices.

Cellid's AR glasses reference design demonstrates how its proprietary waveguide technology can bring digital information directly into lightweight eyewear. Cellid's waveguides allow users to view digital content while continuing to see the world around them, creating a more natural connection between digital information and the physical environment.

By including contemporary smart glasses alongside technologies that helped shape the development of extended reality, the exhibit explores how advances in areas including miniaturization, ergonomics, artificial intelligence and wearable technology are opening new possibilities for how people may interact with computing in the future.

Bringing Digital Information Into Everyday Eyewear

Cellid develops waveguides and display technologies designed to make AR glasses thinner, lighter and more comfortable for everyday use. Its waveguides enable digital images and information to appear within the user's field of view while maintaining the transparency needed to see the surrounding environment.

Cellid also develops AR glasses reference designs that demonstrate how its waveguide and display technologies can be incorporated into lightweight, practical AR eyewear.

As AI and spatial computing continue to change the way people access and interact with digital information, Cellid sees AR glasses as a way to more naturally connect digital content with the physical world and make information more accessible in everyday life.

"We are honored that Cellid's AR glasses reference design is now featured in the Computer History Museum's 'Extended Reality: Visions of the Future' exhibit," said Satoshi Shiraga, CEO of Cellid. "We believe AR glasses can become an important part of the future of computing by making digital information more naturally accessible as people interact with the world around them. Cellid is working to make this technology lighter, more comfortable and practical for everyday use, and we are pleased to have our waveguide technology showcased as part of an exhibit exploring the future of wearable computing."

About "Extended Reality: Visions of the Future"

"Extended Reality: Visions of the Future" explores the evolution of virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, smart glasses and AI-powered wearables through more than 100 historic and contemporary devices spanning six decades of innovation. The exhibit examines the development of wearable computing and how emerging technologies are changing the ways people see, understand and interact with the world.

Nexcess Announces Acronis Endpoint Detection And Response For Hosted Servers
Image File
Original HTML

LANSING, Mich., Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Nexcess, a managed cloud provider, today announced Acronis Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), security software that watches how programs behave on a server, flags activity that looks like an attack, and keeps a record of what happened. Customers can add it to any eligible Nexcess server.

Why now

Artificial intelligence has fundamentally reshaped the security landscape. Previously, a sophisticated attack on a system took deep engineering expertise and months of patient reconnaissance. AI has eliminated both barriers. Nexcess is responding by offering Acronis EDR as an add-on for managed cloud servers.

What it is

EDR is security software that runs on the server, looks for suspicious activity and patterns occurring, flags potential malicious activity as it happens, and gives the customer the details and the tools to respond. It goes beyond antivirus protection, which blocks known threats, by continuously monitoring activity and identifying and containing threats in real time.

Why Nexcess

The Nexcess team handles the setup and turns it on, with nothing for the customer to install. Alerts show up in the Nexcess portal with the affected server, how severe it is, what was caught, and whether it's been contained. One click from any incident opens the Acronis console for a closer look. It's on one invoice, and Nexcess support is available to help with setup, access, and questions about alerts.

Availability

Acronis EDR is available starting October 19, 2026. Any eligible Nexcess managed cloud customer can add it, and customers who run Acronis Backup or Disaster Recovery with Nexcess can use the Acronis agent already on their servers.

"Our customers don't wake up wanting an endpoint security product. They want to know that when something goes wrong on a server, they'll see it and be able to do something about it," said Michael Ohayon, General Manager, Managed Cloud, Nexcess. "We want to give our customers one partner for the server and the protection on it."

Learn more about Acronis EDR at https://www.nexcess.com/acronis/endpoint-detection-response/ or talk to the Nexcess team.

About Nexcess

Nexcess provides specialty cloud solutions for companies who need control over their cloud environments. Our mission is to simplify the experience, lower risk, and enable performance and scalability. KA-EX Appoints Aaron Heidebreicht CEO North America to Lead US Expansion

Switzerland's #1 sports supplement brand is now sold at more than 4,000 US points of sale, including 2,200 GNC stores nationwide.

NEW YORK, Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- KA-EX, Switzerland's #1 sports supplement brand, announces the appointment of Aaron Heidebreicht as CEO North America. The appointment is the next step in KA-EX's commitment to the US market, where the brand is now sold at more than 4,000 points of sale following its national launch across 2,200 GNC stores in August 2026, with Vitamin Shoppe to follow suit in January 2027 with 700+ doors.

Heidebreicht brings 20+ years of sports nutrition leadership to the role. A former professional Baseball player, he has held leadership positions at GNC, Nutrabolt and KAGED, where he served as Chief Commercial Officer, and most recently led Applied Nutrition's North American business as CEO. At KA-EX, he leads US commercial strategy, retail expansion and the build-out of the North American team from Nashville, Tennessee.

"North America is our most important growth market, and the response from retailers and athletes this year has shown what is possible here. Aaron has built and scaled some of the most successful brands in this category. With him leading North America, we are investing in a dedicated US team and in the partnerships that will bring KA-EX's Swiss science to many more athletes and everyday consumers," said Pedro Schmidt, CEO and Founder, KA-EX.

KA-EX's US growth is being driven by specialty and premium fitness retail. Following the GNC national launch, Earthbar will move from test markets to a full-chain rollout in January 2027, and KA-EX is one of The Feed's highest-growth brands in 2026.

"KA-EX does something no one else in this category does: its patented VICAP cap keeps sensitive ingredients stable until the moment you drink. That is a real advantage at shelf, and our retail partners are already seeing it. My focus is on building the team, structure and partnerships that turn this momentum into a lasting North American business," said Aaron Heidebreicht, CEO North America, KA-EX.

KA-EX currently has two products in the US market. Cortisol Stress Reducer and Creatine + Energy. Both available in Ready-to-drink and Ready-to-mix formats. RTDs are built on VICAP, the brand's patented dual-chamber cap technology, which keeps active ingredients separate until the moment of consumption. The range is Informed Sport and NSF certified and is used by athletes and teams including Brooklyn Pro Pickleball Team, Brooklyn FC, Tudor Pro Cycling.

Availability

Creatine + Energy and Cortisol Stress Reducer are available at GNC, The Feed, Earthbar, Amazon, GoPuff, Rumble and ka-ex.com.

Maine Outdoor Solutions Celebrates 45 Years of Foggy Mountain®

HERMON, Maine, Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Maine Outdoor Solutions is celebrating the 45th anniversary of its Foggy Mountain® product line, marking four and a half decades of developing practical, Maine-made products for hunters, gardeners, and outdoor enthusiasts.

The Foggy Mountain® brand traces its roots to 1981, when world-renowned Maine Master Guide Wayne A. Bosowicz of Foggy Mountain Guide Service introduced ProCover, a cover scent specifically designed to meet the needs of the hunters that came to Maine to hunt with him. Bosowicz said at the time, "Well, for quite a few years now, if 20 men came up to hunt with me, they would bring 20 different bottles of scents and lures and stuff. They meant well, but most of the stuff just didn't work. We decided to come up with a cover scent that really worked for us. We mixed it up ourselves and gave it out to our hunters in mayonnaise jars long before we even thought to name it. Folks always asked for more so we started selling ProCover, and that's how it all began."

Ken Johnson acquired the Foggy Mountain® brand in 1986 and began building the brand using the ProCover model, finding a need and filling it under a simple premise: unique and useful outdoor products, made in Maine. In the decades since, the line has grown by staying close to its customer base, listening for gaps in the market, and building products to fill them.

When a wave of state-level regulatory changes began restricting the types of hunting scents legal to use in the field, Foggy Mountain® responded with its DeadRinger Synthetic Hunting Scents line, including DoeFire and Ruttin'Buck, giving hunters a compliant alternative without sacrificing effectiveness.

"When the rules around hunting scents started changing state by state, we didn't want our customers caught without options," Johnson said. "DoeFire and Ruttin'Buck exist because people needed a scent that still worked but also kept them on the right side of the law."

Foggy Mountain® has also expanded well beyond scents. Its PestEscential Insect Protection Products line brings an extensive range of Maine-made, all-natural insect and parasite repellents and abatement solutions to market, a response to growing demand for effective alternatives to harsh chemical repellents. The brand's apparel side has grown, too, anchored by the Real Maine Crusher Hat and the distinctively designed Flapper.

Looking ahead, Maine Outdoor Solutions says the next chapter of Foggy Mountain® will follow the same formula that built the first 45 years.

"Forty-five years in, the products evolve, but the approach doesn't... we listen to what people actually need out in the field and build for that," Johnson said. "That's not going to change over the next 45 years either."
