13 states saw decreases of 10% or more, while 10 states and the District of Columbia saw increases of at least 10%

WASHINGTON, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- An estimated 18,460 lives were lost in motor vehicle crashes during the first six months of 2026, according to preliminary analysis by the National Safety Council. This represents a 2% decrease from the revised count for the first half of 2025, as overall miles driven increased by 0.8% between January and June.

The results were mixed across the country, with some states seeing double-digit decreases and others undergoing double-digit increases. Thirteen states experienced decreases of more than 10%: Hawaii (-30%), Illinois (-24%), West Virginia (-24%), Kansas (-21%), Oklahoma (-20%), Idaho (-18%), New Hampshire (-16%), Nevada (-14%), Maryland (-13%), Wisconsin (-13%), Tennessee (-12%), Utah (-11%) and Massachusetts (-10%).

Ten states and the District of Columbia, however, experienced increases of 10%: District of Columbia (+133%), Delaware (+24%), Rhode Island (+22%), Vermont (+18%), North Dakota (+18%), Kentucky (+18%), Alabama (+17%), Iowa (+16%), Wyoming (+14%), California (+14%) and Mississippi (+12%).

The estimated mileage fatality rate for the first half of 2026 is 1.12 fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, a 3.4% decrease from 2025 and a 10.4% decrease from 2024.

"While the national trend continues to point in the right direction, our work is far from complete," said Lorraine Martin, NSC CEO and chair of the Road to Zero Coalition. "Even one death on our roads is too many. As drivers, we can all make a difference by committing to driving safely and responsibly on every trip. As advocates, NSC will continue to work toward implementing evidence-based solutions, safety-focused policies and the strategies proven to save lives."

Leading causes of preventable roadway fatalities include speeding, impaired and distracted driving, driver fatigue and failure to use seatbelts. In 2024, 30% of traffic deaths involved an alcohol-impaired driver, and speeding was a factor in 29% of fatalities.

Established and led by NSC, the Road to Zero Coalition partners with transportation safety stakeholders to advance comprehensive solutions and disseminate best practices with the goal of eliminating roadway deaths by 2050. The Coalition promotes the Safe System Approach, advocating for safer people, safer vehicles, safer speeds, safer roads and post-crash care.

Motor vehicle fatality estimates are subject to slight fluctuations as data matures. NSC uses data from the National Center for Health Statistics to include deaths occurring within 100 days of the crash and on both public and private roadways — such as parking lots and driveways.

The full analysis, including estimates for each state, is available here. To learn more about the Road to Zero Coalition, visit here.

Former Google Managing Director Gina Fratarcangeli Joins Qtonic Quantum to Advance Enterprise Post-Quantum Readiness
Image File
Original HTML

Technology executive brings three decades of enterprise leadership and global alliance experience to the company's Find. Prove. Fix. strategy.

MIAMI, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Qtonic Quantum today announced that Gina Fratarcangeli has joined the company as Senior Advisor, AI Transformation and Global Alliances. The former Google Managing Director will advise on enterprise adoption, commercial strategy and partnerships with global systems integrators and cloud providers, helping connect Qtonic Quantum's cybersecurity capabilities with the organizations and partners responsible for putting them to work.

Fratarcangeli brings experience building and scaling businesses across Google, Accenture, IBM and Genpact. Her appointment adds commercial and alliance expertise to Qtonic Quantum's Find. Prove. Fix. strategy: identify cryptographic exposure, validate material security risk and establish a practical path to remediation and post-quantum readiness.

For enterprises, that work reaches beyond the security team. Decisions about cryptography affect infrastructure, applications, procurement and the protection of sensitive information. Making progress requires technical evidence that business leaders can evaluate, priorities they can fund and a migration plan their teams and partners can execute.

"Customers need a clear connection between what an assessment finds and what their organization should do next," said Mark Schrick, Executive Vice President, Strategic Accounts & Global Alliances at Qtonic Quantum. "Gina understands how enterprise leaders, technology providers and delivery partners make those decisions together. Her guidance will help our team build partnerships around the customer's entire journey - from understanding exposure to planning and carrying out the work."

At Google, Fratarcangeli served as Managing Director and North America Global Systems Integrator Leader. She oversaw an $8 billion Global Strategic Integrator ecosystem and drove joint AI go-to-market strategies delivering 89% year-over-year growth. Her prior leadership responsibilities included managing profit-and-loss portfolios of up to $5 billion and guiding enterprise modernization for Fortune 1000 companies.

Her advisory work at Qtonic Quantum will focus on enterprise buying priorities, alliance strategy and the integration of post-quantum readiness into broader AI, cloud and infrastructure transformation programs. She will also provide guidance on how the company develops joint offerings and commercial relationships with systems integrators, cloud providers and channel partners.

"Enterprise adoption takes a clear business case, confidence in the technology and agreement on how the work will get done," said Fratarcangeli. "What drew me to Qtonic Quantum is the discipline behind Find. Prove. Fix. It gives customers a way to move from questions about their exposure to evidence and an actionable plan. I look forward to helping the team bring that approach to more organizations and build the partnerships that support it at scale."

Qtonic Quantum connects three offerings in that process. QScout discovers cryptographic exposure. QStrike validates material security risks through scoped testing and reviewable evidence. QSolve translates findings into prioritized remediation and migration plans, identifying owners, dependencies and implementation decisions. Together, they give security teams, business leaders and delivery partners a shared basis for action.

Fratarcangeli brings deep expertise in commercializing emerging technologies, shaping go-to-market strategy for next-generation platforms and guiding organizations through complex digital and quantum transitions. She serves on multiple corporate and nonprofit boards and is an elected member of the International Women's Forum. She holds quantum and cloud certifications from MIT, executive credentials from Harvard Business School and Wharton, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan.

About Qtonic Quantum

Qtonic Quantum is a quantum cyber risk and vulnerability intelligence company serving enterprise and federal environments. Its Find. Prove. Fix. approach connects cryptographic discovery, security validation and post-quantum migration planning through QScout, QStrike and QSolve. Learn more at QtonicQuantum.com.

MLP's Phoenix Flames to Host Community Events as the Veolia Arizona Open

Places Pickleball on Center Stage in the Valley Sept. 13-20

PHOENIX, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Pickleball will take center stage in Phoenix Sept. 13-20 when the Carvana PPA Tour brings the Veolia Arizona Open to the Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa. Helping to drive a week-long celebration for the world's fastest-growing sport will be the Phoenix Flames, the Valley's hometown Major League Pickleball (MLP) team. Under the leadership of team owners Jeff and Chrissy Tsao and in collaboration with Center Court, the Flames will host two community events to bring fans, recreational players, and aspiring competitors closer to the professional game.

The Flames' events — a Phoenix Flames Pickleball Party on Sept. 13 at Center Court Scottsdale Shea and a Beat the Pro Ladder on Sept. 14 at Center Court Gilbert — are part of the Tsao's commitment to expanding the reach of pickleball and supporting its growth at all levels throughout Arizona. The timing creates a full week of opportunities for players and fans to experience pickleball for the first time or as a current member of the community, from participating in amateur play and interactive games to watching the world's top professionals compete at the Veolia Arizona Open.

"The upcoming week is exactly what we envisioned for the Flames in Phoenix — not just as a professional team competing at the highest level, but serving as a catalyst for the growth of pickleball throughout Arizona. With the PPA Tour coming to Mesa, our community members have an incredible opportunity to watch the sport at its highest level and then step onto the court themselves. We want to help make pickleball more accessible, more exciting, and more connected to people in our team's home market. Our family is active on the court and off it. This is why Chrissy and I became involved with MLP in the first place," said Jeff Tsao.

Chrissy Tsao added, "We are passionate about creating opportunities for people to discover pickleball, fall in love with the game, and see what is possible on and off the court. Arizona has such a vibrant pickleball community, and the Flames team is an integral part of it. Having a PPA tournament in our market makes the upcoming week a special one. Still, our commitment goes well beyond the MLP season and any one PPA tournament. We are focused on building the next generation of players, fans, and leaders in this sport."

Their commitment to the future of pickleball is reflected in how the Tsao's built the Flames' roster. With an emphasis on rising talent, the team focuses on professional development and relationship-building that brings together rising stars. Current Phoenix Flames team members are Alexa Schull (19), Cam Chaffin (15), Allison Phillips (23), Daria Walczak (26), Jonathan Truong (19), and Michael Loyd (28). The Flames' investment in young players underscores the organization's belief that the next wave of pickleball stars is already emerging — and that the team can play a major role in developing them.

SandboxAQ Completes Successful Flight Test of AQNav's Quantum Navigation Technology on Northrop Grumman's Lumberjack® Attritable Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS)

SandboxAQ unveils hardware-agnostic AQNav software platform for rapid integration across defense systems

PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- SandboxAQ announced it has successfully completed the world's first reported test of a magnetic navigation (MagNav) system on an attritable platform – Northrop Grumman's Lumberjack®, a Group 3 UAS attritable drone. It was also the world's first reported instance of a MagNav system being paired with a visual navigation system on an attritable, one-way attack platform. SandboxAQ has collaborated with Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) to integrate and test its commercial, dual-use, AQNav MagNav technology on this unmanned aircraft system.

Conflicts in Ukraine and the Persian Gulf States prove small, expendable drones are now regularly operating in GPS-denied and spoofed environments. UAVs are a tool of war in these conflicts and militaries around the world are ramping up their stockpiles of drones. Northrop Grumman's Lumberjack, a one-way-attack drone, was designed and developed in under 14 months of its first flight. The versatility and modularity of this technology highlights Northrop Grumman's multi-use, loitering munition capabilities.

"Today's platforms need navigation systems they can trust as they operate in increasingly complex and contested environments. In collaboration with SandboxAQ, Northrop Grumman is aggressively enhancing our ecosystem of autonomous and unmanned systems with resilient and flight-hardened alternative navigation systems," said Max Schuster, program manager, Lumberjack, Northrop Grumman. "Pairing AQNav with Northrop Grumman's experience in unmanned aircraft and open mission systems will ensure our joint forces have an operationally validated navigation capability in even the most contested domains."

"AQNav's ability to provide unjammable navigation and positioning without GPS complements Northrop Grumman's efforts to fulfill the operational and mission-specific requirements for autonomous aircraft and shape the future of next generation unmanned platforms," said Luca Ferrara, General Manager of Navigation at SandboxAQ. "Leveraging our proven MagNav technologies and drone platform expertise, the flight test with Northrop Grumman further demonstrates the ease by which our AQNav software can be integrated into unmanned systems at the speed and scale required by leading defense organizations."

AQNav enables continuous positioning without reliance on satellite or other externally transmitted signals. Its passive, all-weather, and terrain-agnostic navigation can serve as a standalone capability or complement inertial, visual, and satellite navigation systems, advancing the future of alternative positioning, navigation and timing (Alt-PNT). In addition, AQNav's proven ability to operate over open water, feature-limited terrain, urban landscapes, and GPS-denied environments makes aircraft platforms more resilient and mission-capable.

AQNav's Software Expands Accessibility Across Platforms

Our AQNav software platform, demonstrated during the recent flight, extends the company's proven MagNav capabilities into a software-first architecture designed for rapid integration with current and future defense systems. This novel, hardware-agnostic offering processes sensor data in real-time, applies physics-based models to determine positioning and provides continuous navigation that can be easily incorporated into a broader PNT architecture.

The software is designed to run on existing onboard compute infrastructure with operationally relevant latency, reducing the need for additional processing hardware. It supports open architecture interfaces that simplify integration across platforms.

"AQNav now offers OEMs two distinct paths for deployment – a full-stack, performance-optimized solution that's built natively into your platform architecture, or a software-only solution developed specifically to deploy within existing architecture," said Ferrara. "With Northrop Grumman's Lumberjack, our engineers were able to install AQNav software into existing systems in less than an hour, giving the attritable platform MagNav capabilities for enhanced mission performance."

Proven Performance Across Defense and Commercial Applications

Since 2023, AQNav has been flight-tested by military, government, and commercial aerospace partners including Airbus and Boeing. SandboxAQ has worked closely with the United States Air Force to flight-test AQNav for more than three years, including testing aboard C-17 Globemaster III and C-130J Super Hercules transports and participating in three large-scale military exercises. AQNav was also selected to participate in the 2025 NATO DIANA cohort.

AQNav currently participates in the Defense Innovation Unit's (DIU) Transition of Quantum Sensing program (TQS), which tests MagNav technologies for military autonomous systems. Under that program, SandboxAQ integrated its AQNav software on a Group 3 unmanned aircraft platform and is evaluating its performance against defense-relevant use cases. The work with Northrop Grumman builds on those integration patterns and advances a shared objective of delivering scalable, resilient navigation for unmanned operations in GPS-contested environments.

Provident Industrial Sells A20 Logistics Center in Arlington, Texas
Image File

DALLAS, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Provident Industrial, a division of Dallas-based real estate development and investment firm Provident, today announced the sale of A20 Logistics Center, a 161,408-square-foot industrial building at 4601 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Arlington, Texas. Provident completed construction in January 2026, twelve months after breaking ground, and signed Fasteners, Inc. dba Professional Contractor Supply (PCS), a professional tool and construction supply distributor, the following month to a lease covering approximately half the building. The property was sold to an institutional buyer.

The building offers 32-foot clear heights, 34 dock doors, and a 130-foot truck court, along with ESFR sprinklers and a triple freeport tax exemption. It sits on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive just south of I-20 next to Arlington Municipal Airport, roughly a half hour from downtown Dallas, downtown Fort Worth, and DFW International Airport.

"South Arlington doesn't get the attention the 360 corridor does, but the labor pool is right there and I-20 puts a tenant across the Metroplex in half an hour," said Chris Martin, SVP of Southwest Industrial Development & Acquisitions at Provident Industrial. "We delivered in January and signed our first lease in February. On a speculative building, a month is the market telling you the site was right."

Provident broke ground on A20 Logistics Center in January 2025 in partnership with Humphreys Fund IV, a fund managed by Humphreys Capital. Kurt Griffin and Nathan Orbin of JLL represented Provident on leasing. Newmark Capital Markets brokered the sale.

GRANTS PASS, Ore., Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- ECS Composites ("ECS" or "The Company"), a Becklin Holdings company and industry leader in the design and manufacturing of high-performance, custom transit cases, today announced a manufacturing partnership with JFL, a cybersecurity firm serving Department of War ("DoW") and Intelligence Community clients. As cybersecurity operations become increasingly critical to national security, organizations require equipment that performs reliably across the full spectrum of operational environments.

The relationship began at AFCEA, where leaders from JFL and ECS identified an opportunity to develop a lighter-weight carbon fiber case solution. Then, drawing on more than 70 years of advanced composites experience, ECS worked closely with JFL to create a custom transit case that balanced durability, mobility, and performance.

JFL's deep understanding of operational requirements and commitment to supporting the DoW and Intelligence Community aligned closely with ECS' philosophy of engineering solutions for real-world environments. By collaborating early in the project, communicating openly, and maintaining a focus on the needs of the end user, the teams developed an ATA-compliant, lightweight, rugged transport solution designed to support leading-edge technology missions.

"Organizations operating at the forefront of cybersecurity need equipment they can depend on," said Sterling Becklin, Founder and Chairman of Becklin Holdings and President of ECS Composites. "JFL came to us with a unique challenge, and our team was proud to apply its engineering expertise to deliver a solution that met their objectives. That success reflects the type of work our team is built for—helping organizations protect critical systems and strengthen national security through technical innovation."

"What sets ECS apart is the combination of technical mastery and straightforward communication," said Dave Dolan, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing and co-owner of JFL. "Their team takes the time to understand the requirement, provides honest feedback about what will and won't work, and consistently delivers on its commitments. That collaborative approach has made ECS a valuable partner as we develop specialized solutions for our defense industry partners."

The project demonstrates how advanced composites manufacturing can support organizations working at the intersection of technology and national security. As demand grows for next-generation cybersecurity capabilities and other emerging defense technologies, ECS remains focused on helping customers bring innovative ideas to market through collaborative engineering and disciplined production.

Arixa Capital Surpasses $9 Billion in Loan Originations, Expands Homebuilder Finance Program

Original HTML

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Arixa Capital, a leading private real estate lender and alternative investment manager, today announced it has surpassed $9 billion in originated loans since inception.

The firm reached this milestone as it continues the rapid expansion of its homebuilder finance business, a specialized lending program for large-scale residential and mixed-use developments in need of sophisticated capital solutions and construction expertise. The expansion is being led by industry veteran Jim Sawitzke, who recently joined the firm as Executive Vice President, Homebuilder Finance.

"We're excited to welcome Jim at an important moment in Arixa's growth," said Seth Davis, President of Arixa Capital. "As we surpass $9 billion in originations, we see a significant opportunity to expand our presence in the homebuilder market and support experienced developers pursuing complex, large-scale residential projects."

The expansion builds on Arixa's growing presence in the homebuilder sector, including several recent financings across the country, ranging from $30 million to $80 million, supporting sizable developments in Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington. These loans were provided through Arixa's Pro Builder program to support complex, multi-phase residential development.

Arixa's Pro Builder program serves established builders and developers undertaking residential and mixed-use projects of 10 or more units, with loans up to $80 million. The program supports phased developments through a single approval process, spanning acquisition, construction, and eventual sale or refinance. With more than 135 employees across its platform, including in-house credit, construction management, servicing, and capital markets functions, Arixa combines construction expertise with the institutional resources required to execute complex projects.

"Homebuilders need a trusted capital partner that understands the realities of construction lending and can execute with consistency on both current and future projects," said Greg Hebner, Chief Executive Officer. "Arixa's homebuilder financing program is designed to meet those needs, providing reliable capital, construction expertise, and personalized service throughout the development process."

Jim Sawitzke joins Arixa to lead the growth of its homebuilder finance business, bringing nearly three decades of experience in residential construction lending and real estate finance. Before joining Arixa, he served in senior leadership positions at Brio Homebuilder Solutions, a Blackstone portfolio company, and at leading financial institutions including M&T Bank, AmTrust Bank, and JPMorgan Chase.

"Homebuilders are looking for capital partners that truly understand their business, that are responsive and creative, and that can execute on time without last-minute surprises," said Jim Sawitzke, Executive Vice President, Homebuilder Finance. "Arixa's combination of construction expertise, flexible capital, and institutional infrastructure gives builders the confidence that their financing will be there when they need it."

ZEHN JAHRE STEPHEN HAWKING MEDAL
