Performance Brokerage Services, the leader in dealership buy-sell activity, announces the sale of Highway Motors, Inc., an International dealer, in Winchester, Harrisonburg, Roanoke, and Leesburg, Virginia, from Tom Mohr to Korey Neal of K. Neal Truck & Bus Center, Inc.

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Performance Brokerage Services, North America's highest volume dealership brokerage firm, is pleased to announce the sale of Highway Motors, Inc., an International dealer, with 4 locations in Virginia from Tom Mohr to Korey Neal of K. Neal Truck & Bus Center, Inc.

Highway Motors, Inc. is a family-owned commercial truck dealership that has served Virginia's trucking industry since 1929. Originally established in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the company has expanded along the Interstate 81 corridor, operating locations in Harrisonburg, Roanoke, and Winchester, with an additional parts location serving the Leesburg area. Highway Motors specializes in new and pre-owned commercial trucks, including International Trucks, and provides parts, maintenance, repair, and other fleet support services to customers throughout the region. Tom Mohr, President of Highway Motors, has also been active in the industry through the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association, joining its Board of Directors in 2020.

"I first met Dan Argiro many years ago at an ATD event in Las Vegas," Tom Mohr, President of Highway Motors, Inc., shared. "From that time forward, I have seen Dan and his team at Performance Brokerage Services help other dealers around the country when they decided to sell their dealerships.

Highway Motors has been a cherished family business and an International dealership for generations. Deciding to sell was a difficult decision. I needed to better understand the buy/sell process and wanted a trusted partner with proven industry experience and expertise. From our very first conversation, right up to closing, Dan was there every step of the way. He helped guide my team and me through the complexities of the transaction, helped us assemble the right experts, and maximized our value by bringing multiple competitive buyers to the table. The right buyer is now taking the reins. We are highly confident that Korey Neal and his team at K. Neal will honor our legacy and continue serving the loyal customers of Highway Motors."

Over the last 5 years, Performance Brokerage Services has advised on the sale of nearly 450 dealerships, making it the highest volume dealership brokerage firm in North America. Dan Argiro and Pat Albero, Senior Partners of the Commercial Truck and Equipment Division for Performance Brokerage Services, were the exclusive sell-side advisors for this transaction.

"It has been an honor to represent Tom Mohr and his family legacy at Highway Motors on this transaction," said Dan Argiro. "Our teams worked tirelessly together to ensure the right buyer was taking over. Selecting Korey Neal and his team at K. Neal Truck and Bus was the right decision for Tom. Having worked with Korey on a past transaction, I've seen what comes after closing with his team at the helm. I'm confident that growth and prosperity will follow as K. Neal guides Highway Motors into the future."

Founded by Stephen W. Neal, K. Neal Truck & Bus Center, Inc. is a family-owned commercial truck and bus dealership headquartered in Hyattsville, Maryland. Following Stephen's acquisition of the business in 2006, his son, Korey Neal, assumed the role of President in 2018. Under Korey's leadership, the company has continued to expand its regional presence while investing in modern facilities and advancing technologies, including solutions that support cleaner transportation. In 2019, K. Neal was recognized by the Washington Business Journal with a Family-Owned Business Award, and Korey was named a 40 Under 40 honoree in 2020. In 2023, the company was also recognized as Dealer of the Year by the Greater Washington Region Clean Cities Coalition.

With the acquisition of Highway Motors, Inc., K. Neal Truck & Bus Center now operates eight locations across Maryland and Virginia.

Korey Neal, CEO of K. Neal Truck & Bus Center, Inc., shared, "This is the second acquisition I have completed with Dan Argiro and his team at Performance Brokerage Services. Dan and I have known each other for some time. When he reached out to present the Highway Motors opportunity, I knew what to expect from the start: honesty, integrity, transparency, and a straightforward approach to the buy-sell process. Dan lived up to my expectations. He protected confidentiality throughout the process and worked closely with my team and me to keep everything as smooth as possible at every step. We are honored to be chosen as the successor for Highway Motors and look forward to serving our new customers for many years to come. I would recommend Dan Argiro and his team to any dealer looking to buy or sell a dealership, and I look forward to our next acquisition."

Korey added, "We are thrilled to finalize this acquisition and officially welcome the Highway Motors team and customers into the K. Neal Truck & Bus family. The Mid-Atlantic is a strong economic corridor, and we see tremendous opportunity for growth and expansion here. We are fully committed to building on Highway Motors' foundation and growing our footprint across the entire region well into the future."

Highway Motors, Inc. will continue operating under its existing name at all current locations.

Die Interview-Kontroverse um Elif Eralp zeigt das Klima der Angst bei der Berliner Linkspartei

Kommentar von Markus Decker

Freiburg (ots)

From Prison Classroom to National Audience: "Basement People" Screens at San Quentin Film Festival and Digitally Debuts Nationally on Securus Technologies Tablets
Image File
Original HTML

Directed by Christine Swanson and winner of Best Short Film at the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival, Kyale Akeem Williams' Academy Award-eligible film is now available to incarcerated viewers nationwide

PLANO, Texas, Oct. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Basement People, an Academy Award-eligible short film written by incarcerated screenwriter Kyale Akeem Williams and directed by award-winning filmmaker Christine Swanson, screens at the 2026 San Quentin Film Festival. Technology access inside correctional facilities carried the film from a Michigan prison classroom to the festival circuit and secure tablets nationwide, extending education beyond the classroom, sustaining creative collaboration, and building the connection, skills, and sense of purpose essential to rehabilitation.

On October 22, 2026, Securus Technologies, a technology company that equips more than 1,800 correctional agencies with a comprehensive portfolio of connectivity solutions that enhance public safety and optimize facility operations, made Basement People available to incarcerated viewers through the Securus Media Store. Delivered across Securus' network of more than 550,000 secure tablets in corrections facilities nationwide, the release expands access to meaningful content that can spark reflection, reinforce learning, and bring to life where education and creative work can lead in rehabilitation and reentry.

Williams developed the screenplay through a Calvin Prison Initiative screenwriting course at Michigan's Richard A. Handlon Correctional Facility. Recognizing the strength of his work, Calvin University professor Geert Heetebrij connected Williams with Swanson, a fellow Detroiter who went on to direct the film. Through JPay accounts on the Securus platform, Williams stayed connected with Swanson and the project's broader support network, allowing them to continue developing the screenplay during his incarceration and turn classroom learning into sustained creative collaboration.

"When I first read the script, I was struck by its emotional precision, moral ambiguity, and relatable characters," said Swanson, whose directing credits include The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel and Albany Road. "It did not ask for pity. It asked for understanding. Now, people inside may see their own families reflected in it, and that means a great deal to me."

The film follows Tina, a seven-year-old girl who retreats to her family's basement after a traumatic incident and finds refuge with her uncle Keith, whom the family has dismissed and isolated. Their bond creates safety without judgment and illustrates how empathy and connection can interrupt cycles of neglect and harm.

"I wrote Basement People to explore how vulnerable family members respond to familial violence, emotional abuse, and mental health conditions," said Williams. "I hope this interpersonal complexity will encourage audiences to sympathize with the protagonist without dehumanizing her tough and aggressive family. After all, each family member is a victim in their own wayâsomeone who also deserves love, mercy, and compassion."

After winning Best Short Film at the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival, Basement People earned Academy Award eligibility. Its screening at the San Quentin Film Festival, now in its third year and the first film festival established inside a U.S. prison, brings a screenplay developed inside one correctional facility to an audience inside another, proving how education, creative opportunity, and technology access can carry work beyond institutional walls.

"Access to technology while incarcerated gives individuals an opportunity to discover and develop abilities they may never have had the chance to explore," said Jessica Lust, Chief Product Officer, Securus Technologies. "In particular, secure tablets create connectivity to educational tools, mentors, and collaborators that lead to skill building, motivation, and purpose, which can be the foundations of rehabilitation and successful reentry."

"Our responsibility extends beyond providing services. It includes listening to the communities where we operate and supporting the local people and organizations that understand what their communities need to thrive," said Shamia Lodge, Stakeholder Engagement Director, Securus Technologies. "When we pair their insight with resources that expand access and opportunity, we help create conditions in which more individuals can build lasting success."

About Securus Technologies

Securus Technologies, an Aventiv company and the industry leader, equips more than 1,800 correctional agencies with a comprehensive portfolio of technology solutions that enhance public safety and optimize facility operations. Securus helps agencies bring communications, intelligence, mobility, education, monitoring, and operational visibility together in one integrated ecosystem that improves safety, efficiency, and outcomes. Through purpose-built infrastructure, extensive corrections expertise, and continuous investment in innovation, Securus helps agencies modernize how corrections work while supporting successful reentry and stronger communities.

About Basement People

Basement People explores the impact of trauma poverty, and untreated mental illness on children and urban communities. Through Tina, a sensitive young girl, and her uncle Keith, a man isolated by his own struggles, the film reveals how cycles of neglect and violence can be interrupted by empathy and understanding.

Written by Kyale Akeem Williams, an incarcerated writer at Michigan's Richard A. Handlon Correctional Facility through the Calvin Prison Initiative and directed by award-winning filmmaker Christine Swanson, Basement People unites two artists whose shared roots ground the film in authenticity. This collaboration bridges art, justice and community healing while amplifying Detroit's creative legacy.

Would You Trust It? ANSI's 2027 Student Paper Competition Asks Students How Standards Build Confidence

Competition Open to High School and College Students; Cash Prizes Available

NEW YORK, Oct. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and its Committee on Education (CoE) today announced the launch of the 2027 Student Paper Competition, inviting high school and college students nationwide to explore how standards help the products, services, and technologies people rely on earn their trust. Entries are due by June 11, 2027.

About the 2027 Theme

Now in its sixteenth year, the theme for the 2027 paper competition is "Would You Trust It? Exploring How Standards Build Confidence in Products, Services, and Emerging Technologies."

Every day, people rely on products and services they can't personally inspect or test, and few stop to ask why they feel so sure about any of it. The 2027 competition asks students to dig into that confidence with one central question: What makes something trustworthy, and how do standards help get it there? For example, how can you be sure your sports helmet will protect your head? What prevents an e-bike battery from catching fire? Why is it safe to type your credit card number into a website? And would you trust a drone to drop your order at the right doorstep?

Research Areas

Students should choose one of three focus areas and examine how standards build confidence within it.

ProductsâPut Trust to the Test: The Standards Behind the Stuff You Buy, Wear, and Use

- Sports Equipment, Clothing, and Wearables (helmet impact testing, flame-resistant children's sleepwear, care labels, fitness trackers and smartwatches)

- Autonomous and Micromobility Vehicles (self-driving car safety and testing, e-bike and e-scooter battery fires, collision safety)

- Food Safety (preventing and detecting the most common foodborne pathogens, such as Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli, and norovirus)

ServicesâPut Trust to the Test: Standards That Protect What You Share, Order, and Pay For

- Social Media and E-Commerce (online privacy, age verification, secure payments, banking and card-security standards)

- Food Delivery (drone delivery safety, temperature control in transit, allergen and ingredient labeling, tamper-evident packaging)

Emerging TechnologyâPut Trust to the Test: Standards That Help New Technology Earn Our Confidence and Gain Adoption

- Artificial Intelligence (transparency, testing, risk management, responsible use)

- Biometrics (fingerprint, face, and voice recognition; accuracy, spoofing prevention, protecting personal data)

Students with a different idea may propose their own topic, subject to approval, by contacting Lisa Rajchel ([email protected]).

Submission and Prize Information

All entries must meet the requirements in the ANSI 2027 Student Paper Competition flyer. Submissions must be original work (not AI-generated) and must not have been previously published.

Winning entries will be published on ansi.org and potentially in other media outlets. They will also be shared widely with the domestic and international standards community, including experts in government, industry, professional societies, and academic institutions.

Every qualifying submission earns the student a $20 gift card and a certificate of submission. The top high school paper wins $1,000, and the top paper from a student at an institution of higher learning wins $1,500. ANSI reserves the right to award no prizes based on the judges' determination.

For full submission criteria, access the ANSI 2027 Student Paper Competition flyer. Email entries by June 11, 2027, to Lisa Rajchel, [email protected]. The winning papers will be announced in August 2027.

Global commitment announced during the first Global Summit for Eye Health will strengthen the global eye health workforce, expand quality cataract care, and implement AI screening

NEW YORK, Oct. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Global eye care nonprofit Orbis International is committing an estimated US$32 million in financial and technical contributions from 2027 through 2030 to help strengthen eye health systems and expand access to quality eye care. The commitment aims to contribute to better eye health outcomes for more than 18 million people worldwide and support the professional development of more than 250,000 eye health professionals.

The commitment is being made in connection with the first Global Summit for Eye Health, hosted by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda in technical collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). The Summit brings together leaders from government, the public and private sectors, NGOs, and funding institutions to share ambitious commitments in order to reach the 1 billion people living with avoidable vision loss.

Orbis has endorsed the St. John's Global Compact for Eye Health and its shared agenda for action, investment, and accountability. Orbis's Summit commitments put that support into practice through workforce development, quality cataract care, and responsible use of digital technology and artificial intelligence.

"The Global Summit for Eye Health is an opportunity to turn shared ambition into practical action. Orbis supports the St. John's Global Compact and is committing our expertise and resources to help countries build the workforce and systems needed to deliver lasting improvements in eye health," said Kathleen Sherwin, President and CEO of Orbis International. "Working alongside governments and partners, we will focus on quality care and reaching people who too often go without it, particularly women, girls, and underserved communities."

At the center of the commitment is a simple principle: lasting progress depends on countries having the people, skills, and systems to deliver quality eye care. Orbis International will work alongside ministries of health, WHO, the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), civil society, professional associations, and private-sector partners, supporting country-led priorities and locally-led approaches.

Training more eye health professionals

One of the biggest barriers to quality eye care is access to a skilled workforce. By 2030, Orbis International plans to support the ongoing professional development of more than 250,000 eye health professionals globally, including through Cybersight, the world's leading digital platform for eye healthâconnecting learning, mentorship, AI, and clinical support to strengthen eye-health systems at scale.

Orbis International will continue providing free access to Cybersight through 2030, representing an estimated US$15 million contribution over four years. Its capabilities will also be made available to support IAPB learning, training, and development initiatives.

"There is a global crisis in eye health: the lack of a trained workforce to treat and prevent conditions that cause blindness," said Hunter Cherwek, Chief Medical Officer at Orbis International. "And the demand for trained professionals is only growing with the increase in the number of people with sight-threatening conditions who need eye care. These commitments help governments build that workforce, and Cybersight lets us reach professionals wherever they work."

Expanding access to quality cataract care

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness globally; timely, high-quality surgery can restore sight. Orbis International will invest the equivalent of US$17 million in financial and technical contributions between 2027 and 2030 to strengthen the eye health workforce, improve surgical quality, build institutional capacity, and expand access to high-quality cataract services. The work will contribute toward WHO's 2030 cataract targets and the SEE 2045 global initiative.

Working with governments and partners, including Alcon, Orbis International will support cataract training through hands-on clinical experience, digital learning, mentorship, and simulation.

"Closing the gap between what modern eye care can achieve and what patients can access is one of the most important eye health challenges of our time," said David J. Endicott, Alcon's Chief Executive Officer. "Solving it will require collaboration, investment, and a shared commitment to building the workforce and capacity needed to bring quality eye care to more people around the world."

Bringing responsible AI into routine eye care

Beginning in 2027, Orbis International will partner with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to integrate AI-assisted diabetic retinopathy screening into routine diabetes care, supporting the Prime Minister's Vision Initiative. The partners will work toward screening at least 80% screening coverage among people receiving diabetes care by 2030, with referral, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up pathways for patients who need further care.

"Antigua and Barbuda is proud to strengthen its partnership with Orbis International to make quality eye care accessible, equitable and sustainable for all," said Walton Webson, Permanent Representative of Antigua and Barbuda to the United Nations. "Beginning in 2027, this collaboration will advance AI-assisted screening for diabetic retinopathy, strengthen local capacity and expand early detection. Together with the support of other international partners, it will help us build a comprehensive eye care model that can be adapted across the Caribbean and other Small Island Developing States. Our ambition is clear: to protect sight, expand opportunity and demonstrate that small island nations can lead in inclusive health innovation. No one should lose their sightâor their opportunity to thriveâto a condition we have the means to prevent or treat."

Orbis International will also generate evidence and share lessons from the program to help inform the responsible adoption and potential scale-up of similar approaches in other countries.

A commitment to lasting change

The commitments build on Orbis International's approach of investing in eye care professionals and institutions, so improvements continue long after an individual program ends. Orbis will provide direct support to strengthen government-led systems and institutions in 16 countries, while offering global access to learning, mentorship, and clinical support through Cybersight across more than 200 countries and territories. Its approach will place particular attention on women, girls, and underserved communities. Its work combines training with partnerships, technology, and health-system strengthening designed to bring quality care closer to the communities that need it.

The commitments will run from January 2027 through December 2030, covering priority areas including cataract, diabetic retinopathy, childhood eye health, and refractive error.

About Orbis International

Orbis International works around the world to prevent blindness and restore sight for children and adults in places where eye care is out of reachâso vision problems don't make it harder to learn, earn a living, or enjoy life. Around 1.1 billion people live with vision loss, but with the right care, 90% of it is completely avoidable. That is why Orbis trains doctors, nurses, and other eye care professionals to provide care in their own communitiesâand works to make sure people of all ages can access the eye exams, glasses, medicine, and surgeries they need to protect and restore their sight. Orbis began this work more than 40 years ago with the Flying Eye Hospital, a teaching hospital on a plane that brings expert training and care where they're needed most. Today, we also work with local hospitals and clinics across Africa, Asia, and Latin America to make eye care available to more people, and we use and develop technologyâlike our award-winning Cybersight e-learning and telehealth platform, artificial intelligence screening, and virtual reality trainingâto help eye care teams treat patients more effectively. Reddit Investigation Notice: Levi & Korsinsky Notifies Investors of Pending Investigation Into Reddit (RDDT)

Reddit shares fell approximately 28% after management announced a move to logged-in-only access, which it presented in part as a data-protection and regulatory measure. The investigation concerns whether investors were given an adequate picture of the risks of that access change.

NEW YORK, Oct. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- With its third-quarter results published after market close on October 29, 2026, Reddit, Inc. (NYSE: RDDT) announced it will begin moving its platform to a logged-in-only experience. Shares fell approximately 28%, reportedly on pace for the stock's worst single-day decline since its March 2024 IPO. If you bought RDDT and are now holding losses, this investigation may concern your investment. Shareholders who lost money are encouraged to submit your RDDT loss information now, or contact Joseph E. Levi, Esq. at [email protected] or (212) 363-7500.

Management called the shift "a key piece of work to retain new audiences." Under the plan, Reddit will "begin fully testing this in select markets outside the U.S." in Q4. Management said the results "will inform an optimized version of logged-in only Reddit globally." The tests would require users to log in or create accounts.

Management presented the change in part as a data-protection and regulatory-adaptation measure. It stated that the shift "allows us to protect access to Reddit's extremely valuable corpus of data." The call did not include a quantified estimate of the change's impact on user reach or revenue. It also did not include success criteria for the tests or say how long they will run. The investigation concerns potential securities law violations, including whether Reddit may not have adequately disclosed the risks tied to this access change.

Investors who suffered losses on Reddit shares can request a free review of their RDDT losses or call (212) 363-7500.

WHY LEVI & KORSINSKY -- Ranked in ISS Securities Class Action Services' Top 50 Report for seven consecutive years, Levi & Korsinsky, LLP is a nationally recognized leader in shareholder rights litigation. Investors who purchased shares at allegedly inflated prices and suffered losses may be eligible to seek compensation.

Q: What do RDDT investors need to do right now?A: Investors may gather brokerage records showing purchase dates, share quantities, and prices paid. Should you choose to participate in any resulting action, these matters are generally handled on a contingency basis, with any attorneys' fees and expenses subject to court approval.
