Noah Medical Expands Clinical Evidence for the Galaxy System With Two New Studies Presented at CHEST 2025

Data from leading healthcare centers reinforce high diagnostic accuracy, workflow efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of robotic-assisted bronchoscopy with embedded imaging technology

SAN CARLOS, Calif., Oct. 22, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Medical robotics innovator Noah Medical today announced the presentation of two new data sets highlighting the clinical and economic performance of the company’s Galaxy System, a next-generation Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy platform. The studies presented this week at the CHEST 2025 Annual Meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians in Chicago validate the Galaxy System’s Embedded Imaging Technology demonstrating consistent diagnostic performance and efficiency in tertiary care institutions, academic and community hospitals, where access to advanced technology is rapidly expanding.

Together, the presentations underscore the Galaxy System’s ability to deliver precise lesion targeting and high diagnostic yield while maintaining procedural efficiency and economic sustainability across hospital environments.

Study 1: “Electromagnetic Navigational Robotic Image Integrated Navigational Bronchoscopy Assessment of Digital Tomosynthesis and Augmented Fluoroscopy (MATCH 2 Study)”

In a prospective multi-center study led by Dr. Amit “Bobby” Mahajan (Inova Fairfax Medical Center, Fairfax, VA) and Dr. Krish Bhadra (CHI Memorial, Chattanooga, TN), investigators evaluated the Galaxy System’s digital tomosynthesis (DT) and augmented fluoroscopy (AF) algorithms for real-time lesion localization.

Thirty-one patients with peripheral pulmonary nodules underwent Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy using the Galaxy System. Results showed:

- - 100% procedural success with successful deployment of the biopsy tool within the target lesion.

- - 97% tool-in-lesion (TIL) confirmation using TiLT+TM imaging.

- - 96.7% concordance between the TiLT+ image and cone-beam CT (CBCT) confirmation.

- - 96.7% overall diagnostic yield under strict definitions of yield.

“These data confirm that TiLT+ imaging provides highly reliable, real-time intraprocedural guidance comparable to CBCT. Furthermore, this study demonstrates one of the highest diagnostic yields, by strict definitions, since the development of robotic assisted bronchoscopy,” said Dr. Mahajan. “It suggests that the Galaxy platform can help expand access and democratize advanced robotic bronchoscopy to centers that lack CBCT capabilities, without sacrificing diagnostic accuracy.”

Study 2: “Beyond the Scope: Cost-Benefit and Diagnostic Factors in Community-Based Robotic Bronchoscopy”

A second study, “Beyond the Scope,” evaluated 70 consecutive cases performed with the Galaxy System over 18 months in a community hospital lung nodule program. Results demonstrated:

- 89% strict diagnostic yield at the index procedure.

- Key predictors of yield included localization in ≥2 augmented-fluoroscopy planes (p 0.001) and direct tool adjustments with peripheral lesion visualization (p = 0.01).

- Financial sustainability when procedures were performed in an endoscopy suite and the operating room, with a cost-benefit ratio (CBR) of 1.5 and 1.1 respectively. (A cost-benefit ratio >1 was considered financially viable).

“Community centers are critical access points for early lung cancer diagnosis,” said Dr. Roshen Mathew, principal investigator. “These findings show that robotic bronchoscopy with integrated augmented fluoroscopy can be both clinically and economically viable in those environments.”

Momentum in Evidence and Adoption

Together, the two CHEST 2025 studies reinforce the Galaxy System’s ability to combine high-precision imaging, consistent diagnostic yield, and operational efficiency, which is key to scaling advanced lung-nodule diagnosis across diverse care settings.

“We’re thrilled to see leading clinicians continue to generate strong evidence supporting the Galaxy System’s clinical and economic value,” said Jian Zhang, PhD, founder and CEO of Noah Medical. “From academic centers to community hospitals, physicians are validating the power of the Galaxy System to deliver confidence, efficiency, and accessibility in robotic bronchoscopy.”

The Galaxy System is the first Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy platform that provides embedded imaging with advanced visualization capabilities, a single-use scope, and an efficient workflow. This delivers tool-in-lesion confidence, high diagnostic yield, and streamlined workflow efficiency.

Noah Medical received FDA clearance for the Galaxy System in March 2023 and continues to expand its commercial footprint globally.

The Galaxy System is Noah Medical's inaugural commercial robotic system. The company's mission is to deliver adoptable clinical solutions through innovative endoluminal technologies to enhance the quality of life for patients globally.

Respiratory Medicine Publishes MATCH 2 Study Demonstrating Reliability of Real-Time Imaging Guidance in Robotic Bronchoscopy

Study confirms 96.7% overall diagnostic yield due to precise lesion targeting using digital tomosynthesis and augmented fluoroscopy with CBCT verification

SAN CARLOS, Calif. — March 11, 2026 — Noah Medical today announced the publication of the MATCH 2 study in the international, peer-reviewed journal, Respiratory Medicine. The study reported on the accuracy of three-dimensional targeting during Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy (RAB) procedures using embedded imaging technologies, including digital tomosynthesis (DT) and augmented fluoroscopy (AF). Successful tool-in-lesion was subsequently confirmed with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). All procedures in the study were performed using Noah Medical’s Galaxy System.

"This publication adds to the growing body of evidence proving that we're at an inflection point in lung cancer diagnosis," said Jian Zhang, CEO of Noah Medical. "The MATCH 2 study demonstrates that when you lead by real-time imaging confirmation with robotic navigation, you get a new level of precision that fundamentally changes what was possible for clinicians and their patients. This is exactly the kind of evidence that will define the standard of care going forward."

Accurate biopsy of peripheral lung lesions remains a central challenge in minimally invasive lung cancer diagnosis. The MATCH 2 study evaluated the performance of RAB with embedded DT and integrated AF to achieve tool-in-lesion (TIL) during robotic bronchoscopy procedures. Thirty-one patients with peripheral pulmonary nodules underwent Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy using Noah Medical’s Galaxy System.

Key findings included:

- 96.7% overall diagnostic yield under strict definition

- 96.7% tool-in-lesion confirmation using digital tomosynthesis

- 96.7% concordance between digital tomosynthesis with augmented fluoroscopy and cone-beam CT (CBCT) confirmation

Peripheral lung nodules are increasingly detected through screening programs and incidental imaging, yet obtaining a definitive diagnosis remains difficult. Traditional bronchoscopic approaches can struggle with navigation and confirmation, particularly for small or hard-to-reach lesions.

By incorporating real-time imaging enhancements and independent confirmation via cone beam CT, the MATCH 2 study provides additional clinical evidence supporting technology-enabled approaches that can improve diagnostic precision in minimally invasive pulmonary procedures.

“Our findings demonstrate that combining robotic navigation with embedded imaging tomosynthesis (DT) can achieve precise three-dimensional targeting of peripheral lung lesions,” said Dr. Amit Mahajan, Medical Director at Inova Health System’s Interventional Pulmonology and Complex Airway Disease Program and lead author of the study. He continued, “Reliable confirmation of lesion location is critical to improving diagnostic confidence and diagnosing lung cancer at earlier stages. Early diagnosis of lung cancer is our best chance for cure.”

About the MATCH 2 Study

MATCH 2 was designed to evaluate three-dimensional targeting accuracy during robotic bronchoscopy procedures using integrated imaging modalities. Accuracy was confirmed using cone-beam CT, which provides three-dimensional volumetric lung imaging during procedures.

The study, titled “The MATCH 2 Study: Robotic Assisted Bronchoscopy with Integrated Imaging with Assessment of Digital Tomosynthesis (DT) and Augmented Fluoroscopy (AF): Three-Dimensional Accuracy as Confirmed by Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT),” was authored by Ankit K. Mahajan, M.D., Duy K. Duong, M.D., Johanna Cortes, N.P. and Krish Bhadra, M.D. and is now available online ahead of print.

Noah Medical Announces Galaxy™ II Software, the Next Dimension in Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy

New functionality gives physicians the freedom to choose the right imaging for every case and a more responsive drive experience without adding capital, complexity, or radiation

San Jose, Calif. — Aug. 11, 2026 — Medical robotics innovator Noah Medical today announced the commercial launch of the Galaxy II software, the next evolution of the company’s robotic-assisted bronchoscopy (RAB) platform. The Galaxy II software gives physicians imaging flexibility and procedural control to take on their most complex cases with confidence, advancing what bronchoscopy can deliver across every dimension of the procedure. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death worldwide, and survival depends heavily on early diagnosis, making the ability to accurately biopsy small, hard-to-reach lung lesions one of the most consequential steps in a patient’s path to treatment.

At the center of the system is Dual-Mode Imaging, which lets physicians move seamlessly between Galaxy’s High- Definition Digital Tomosynthesis (HD-DT) and Cone-Beam CT (CBCT) at any point in a procedure. HD-DT delivers efficiently and effectively across the vast majority of cases at a fraction of the radiation dose, while CBCT is available at the moment a case calls for more. The result puts the imaging decision where it belongs, in the physician’s hands.

“Galaxy II software puts physicians in control of their imaging strategy for every procedure,” said Jian Zhang, founder and CEO of Noah Medical. “By bringing HD-DT, CBCT, and advanced robotic control together in one platform using the Galaxy II software, we let physicians choose what each case requires, enabling them to adapt to each patient’s anatomy and reduce radiation exposure while maximizing procedural efficiency.”

Accurately reaching and sampling small pulmonary lesions remains difficult due to two persistent challenges: CT-to-Body Divergence, where the preoperative CT no longer matches the patient’s anatomy during the procedure, and Tool-Tissue Divergence, where a biopsy tool drifts from its intended path even when the catheter is well positioned. Galaxy II software addresses both by uniting navigation, imaging, and real-time confirmation of the lesion and tool in a single platform.

“The Galaxy System’s unique ability to correct for tool-tissue divergence in real time drives its high diagnostic yield, giving physicians confidence that their biopsy tool is exactly where they intend it,” said Dr. Francisco Almeida, Interventional Pulmonologist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Atlanta. “Galaxy II software builds on that foundation, enhancing navigation, imaging, and confirmation in a single platform. It puts the choice of imaging modality in the physician’s hands, so procedures run more efficiently while also cutting the radiation burden on patients and clinicians.”

See More. Do More. Without More.

See More — with the right imaging for every case

Dual-Mode Imaging gives physicians the freedom to match imaging to the moment. HD-DT handles most cases with speed and a low radiation profile, and CBCT is available within the same platform whenever complexity demands it. Paired with Lesion Focus, which minimizes disruptive imaging artifacts for a clearer view of the target lesion, Galaxy II supports more confident targeting exactly when it matters most.

Do More — with a workflow built for flexibility

The Galaxy II update delivers more responsive, predictable control with improved reach, flexibility, and stability helping physicians navigate challenging anatomy with precision through every turn. Imaging choice minimizes case time by reducing workflow complexity and streamlining procedures.

Without More — no added radiation, complexity, or capital

The Galaxy II software expands the Galaxy System’s capability without expanding burden. Based on published literature, HD-DT provides effective imaging for most cases at up to 10 times lower radiation dose than CBCT. Physicians can reserve CBCT for the moments it is truly needed, protecting patients and staff from additional radiation.

Proven Diagnostic Performance

The Galaxy System has demonstrated strong clinical performance across prospective and real-world studies. In the multicenter MATCH II study, real-time lesion localization supported a 96.7% diagnostic yield using ATS strict definitions, and a separate evaluation of 100 consecutive patients at Cleveland Clinic reported a 90% diagnostic yield in routine clinical practice.

NTT, Inc.

News Highlights:

Tokyo, Japan, September 15, 2026 — NTT, Inc. ("NTT") today announced the establishment of a technology that enables easy and highly accurate monitoring of changes in CO₂ absorption by microalgae over time. The technology reduced the maximum relative error with respect to measurements obtained using the conventional titration method from approximately 3,300% to approximately 8%. Measuring and evaluating CO₂ absorption by microalgae requires tracking changes in dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), which exists in several forms in water. Conventional accurate DIC measurement requires culture fluid sampling, making continuous monitoring difficult. The new technology calculates DIC concentrations from measurements collected by CO₂ and other sensors without sampling the culture fluid for each measurement. This enables continuous tracking of changes in CO₂ absorption and is expected to help reduce environmental impact by supporting the exploration and optimization of culture conditions that increase CO₂ absorption.

The results were published in the international phycology journal Algal Research on August 12, 2026.

Figure 1. Comparison of conventional and new methods for measuring DIC dynamics in microalgal cultures

Microalgae grow by using CO₂ and other forms of inorganic carbon through photosynthesis. Biomass4 derived from microalgae can be used as a feedstock for animal feed, fuels, and chemicals. Replacing a portion of conventional feedstocks with this biomass is expected to contribute to sustainable production and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

In culture fluid, CO₂ exists not only as dissolved CO₂ but also as bicarbonate and carbonate ions. Together, these forms are known as dissolved inorganic carbon, or DIC (Figure 2). Evaluating CO₂ absorption by microalgae therefore requires tracking the behavior of DIC as a whole as CO₂ changes form in water.

NTT previously proposed a concept that uses microalgae that grow by utilizing CO₂ as feed for fish and shellfish, aiming to address environmental issues while supporting food production.5 NTT has also conducted research and development to identify genes that improve the efficiency of CO₂ utilization by algae6 and to advance algal breeding technologies.7 Accurately tracking changes in DIC concentration during cultivation is essential for validating this concept and evaluating CO₂ absorption by microalgae.

Figure 2. Forms of CO₂ in aqueous solution

The conventional titration method can measure DIC concentrations accurately, but it requires culture fluid sampling for every measurement. Because each measurement also takes time and effort, the method is not suitable for continuous data acquisition. Existing calculation methods based on sensor data and carbonate equilibrium8 enable continuous calculation. However, when applied directly to microalgal culture fluid, the resulting DIC values showed relative errors of up to approximately 3,300% with respect to conventional titration measurements, making accurate calculation of DIC concentrations difficult. NTT therefore developed a measurement technology that uses sensors to calculate DIC concentrations accurately and continuously during cultivation and to track changes over time.

Analysis of the error in sensor-based DIC calculations showed that the pH9 of the culture fluid increased from approximately 8.4 to approximately 10.0 as cultivation progressed (Figure 3). This rise in pH is considered to reflect a shift in the carbonate equilibrium of the culture fluid as microalgae consume DIC through photosynthesis. In microalgal culture fluid undergoing such a large pH change over a short period, direct application of existing carbonate-equilibrium calculations to sensor measurements was considered likely to produce substantial errors in calculated DIC concentrations.

Figure 3. Change in pH of the algal culture fluid over time

The technology focuses on the difference between DIC concentrations measured by titration and those calculated from sensor measurements. NTT analyzed the relationship between relative error and pH, then developed a correction equation that adjusts calculated DIC concentrations according to pH (Figure 4, left).

Applying the correction equation reduced the relative error of calculated DIC concentrations with respect to titration measurements from a maximum of approximately 3,300% before correction to a maximum of approximately 8% after correction (Figure 4, right). The correction equation has been confirmed to be effective in a laboratory environment using a 5 L culture bottle at 25℃ and within a pH range of 8 to 10. These results confirm that DIC concentrations can be calculated easily and accurately from sensor data.

Figure 4. pH-based correction of calculated DIC concentrations and its effect

NTT calculated the amount of carbon contained in DIC in the culture fluid from the corrected DIC concentration and added it to the amount of carbon contained in CO₂ in the air inside the culture vessel. NTT then compared a microalgal culture with an algae-free control under alternating 12-hour light and dark periods10 to evaluate changes in the amount of carbon in the culture system associated with CO₂ utilization by microalgae (Figure 5). During the light period, the amount of carbon decreased in a manner consistent with CO₂ absorption through microalgal photosynthesis. During the dark period, photosynthesis stopped and a different pattern was observed, reflecting effects including respiration.

The results confirm that the technology can continuously and accurately capture changes over time in the amount of carbon associated with microalgal CO₂ absorption under different light conditions.

Figure 5. Change in the amount of carbon in the culture system over time under alternating light and dark periods

Negative values indicate that the amount of carbon in the culture system was lower in the algal culture than in the control.

NTT will further evaluate the technology under a wider range of conditions, including different algal species and culture conditions that reflect commercial production, to expand its applicability.

Time-series DIC concentration data obtained using the technology can identify conditions under which microalgae actively absorb CO₂ and the timing of declines in CO₂ absorption. Optimizing culture conditions based on this information is expected to increase CO₂ absorption by microalgae and improve biomass production efficiency. By combining the technology with environmental control technologies built into cultivation systems and the cultivation expertise of algae producers, NTT aims to enable more advanced culture management, increase productivity, and contribute to the industrial use of algal biomass.
