Canadian-developed autonomy platform successfully navigates without GPS, external sensors, or high-performance computing

VAUGHAN, Ontario, Sept. 22, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Volatus Aerospace Inc. (TSX: FLT) (OTCQX: TAKOF) (FSE: ABB.F) (“Volatus” or the “Company”), a Canadian-headquartered global aerospace and defence company, today announced the successful completion of initial flight testing of its proprietary V-Cortex™ AI Flight Controller and Autonomy Operating System.

The testing successfully demonstrated GNSS-denied navigation without reliance on external sensors, using onboard default sensors to maintain flight. This breakthrough represents a major advancement in autonomous operations in environments where GPS signals are unavailable, degraded, or intentionally disrupted, including contested environments, dense urban areas, and remote regions such as Canada’s Arctic.

“At CANSEC, we introduced V-Cortex as Canada’s sovereign autonomy platform. These initial flights move the platform from development to demonstrated performance,” said Glen Lynch, Chief Executive Officer of Volatus. “Successfully navigating without GPS or external sensors is a major technical milestone that validates our approach to resilient autonomy. It brings us one step closer to delivering a Canadian-developed solution for defence, public safety, and critical infrastructure operators.”

V-Cortex is designed as a common autonomy layer, platform agnostic and multi-domain, that can be integrated across multiple uncrewed aircraft platforms. Its open, modular architecture allows Volatus to advance new aircraft and mission capabilities without developing a separate autonomy system for each platform, supporting faster integration, greater scalability and sovereign control of critical flight technologies.

Designed and developed entirely in Canada, V-Cortex combines advanced flight control, AI-enabled autonomy, and an open, modular architecture to support a broad range of uncrewed aircraft systems. Development of the V-Cortex autonomy stack continues to be supported through advisory services and funding from the National Research Council of Canada’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) through its Defence Industry Assist initiative.

Additional flight testing and capability demonstrations are planned throughout 2026 as Volatus advances the V-Cortex platform toward operational deployment across its growing family of autonomous systems.

53,000-square-foot facility is supporting expanded production, system integration and scaling of Canadian uncrewed and autonomous systems for domestic and allied markets

MIRABEL, Québec, Sept. 29, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) —  Volatus Aerospace Inc. (TSX: FLT) (OTCQX: TAKOF) (Frankfurt: ABB.F) (“Volatus” or the “Company”), a global aerospace and defence company, today marked the official opening of its 53,000-square-foot manufacturing and systems integration facility in Mirabel, Québec, representing a significant expansion of the Company’s Canadian production capacity and its ability to scale advanced uncrewed and autonomous systems.

Operational since earlier this year, the Mirabel facility is already supporting Volatus’ expanding manufacturing activities. Production of drone docking stations is underway, with the site also supporting the integration and production of Volatus’ V-Series aircraft and other advanced autonomous systems.

Located within the aerospace cluster surrounding Montréal-Mirabel International Airport, the facility brings manufacturing, systems integration and technology advancement together in a Canadian production environment. The investment is designed to position Volatus to respond to growing requirements across defence, public safety, industrial and commercial markets in Canada and allied countries.

“Mirabel is an important part of the next stage of Volatus’ growth,” said Glen Lynch, CEO of Volatus. “As demand for autonomous systems grows, our ability to manufacture, integrate and deliver at scale becomes increasingly important. This facility gives us the infrastructure to expand production, accelerate the commercialization of Canadian technologies and serve customers in Canada and allied markets.”

The official opening brought together government, industry, investment and community leaders and included remarks, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a tour of the facility.

Joining Lynch for the ceremony were MP Carlos Leitão, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry; MP Madeleine Chenette, Isabelle Hudon, President and Chief Executive Officer of BDC; Roxanne Therrien, Mayor of Mirabel; and Yves Beauchamp, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aéroports de Montréal, along with representatives from Canada’s aerospace, defence, investment and business communities.

“Building sovereign capability requires more than developing great technology,” added Lynch. “It requires the ability to manufacture, integrate, test and support that technology here in Canada. Mirabel strengthens that capability and provides a platform from which we can continue to scale production and pursue opportunities across Canada, NATO and allied markets.”

The grand opening represents another milestone in Volatus’ strategy to translate its technology portfolio, operational expertise and growing manufacturing capabilities into scalable solutions for customers in Canada and internationally.

Volatus Aerospace Completes the Initial ISR Drone Fleet Delivery to NATO Partner
Image File
Original HTML

Approximately C$4.5 million initial tranche delivered under previously announced contract valued at up to C$9 million; customer begins exercising second-tranche option

MIRABEL, Québec, Oct. 07, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Volatus Aerospace Inc. (TSX: FLT) (OTCQX: TAKOF) (Frankfurt: ABB.F) (“Volatus” or the “Company”), a Canadian-headquartered global aerospace and defence company, today announced that it has completed delivery of the uncrewed aircraft fleet under the initial approximately C$4.5 million tranche of its previously announced ISR training system contract with a NATO partner.

The contract, announced on December 15, 2025, has a potential aggregate value of up to C$9 million. The customer has begun exercising its option under the second tranche, with Volatus receiving additional orders under the previously announced contract. The unexercised balance remains available at the customer’s option through the end of 2027.

The fleet addresses an immediate training requirement by enabling defence personnel to develop foundational skills in drone flight, navigation and basic intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR). The systems are designed for repeated use by new operators in controlled training environments, allowing personnel to build confidence and practical experience before progressing to more advanced operational platforms.

“This delivery represents an important milestone in the continued growth of our defence business,” said Glen Lynch, CEO of Volatus. “It demonstrates our ability to respond to clearly defined allied requirements with practical, scalable uncrewed solutions. Just as importantly, it strengthens our relationships with NATO allies and positions Volatus to support the growing demand for uncrewed systems, training and sustainment worldwide. The additional orders demonstrate continued customer commitment to the program and reinforce our ability to bring together aircraft, integration, training and support to meet allied requirements.”

This delivery completes the initial fleet shipment following the supply-chain disruptions previously disclosed in the Company’s quarterly reporting.

The program includes a fleet of durable, commercially derived training aircraft, integrated control interfaces, technical and operational documentation, instructor familiarization, warranty coverage and lifecycle support. The systems feature intuitive controls and automated safety functions suited to personnel with limited prior UAS experience.

Specific system configurations remain confidential under the terms of the agreement.

As NATO members increase their adoption of uncrewed technologies, the ability to develop trained operators is becoming an essential component of defence readiness. Volatus’ combination of aircraft, integration, training and sustainment capabilities enables the Company to address immediate customer requirements while supporting the longer-term development of uncrewed aviation capacity.

“Training is foundational to the effective adoption of uncrewed systems,” added Lynch. “This program gives new operators the tools and experience they need to begin building that capability, while creating a pathway toward more advanced systems and applications.”

The delivery adds to Volatus’ growing defence portfolio and provides a foundation for potential follow-on orders and broader opportunities across allied markets.

Voices of Volatus: Building Drone Training Skills That Make a Real-World Difference
Image File
Original HTML

For Danielle Gagne, a career in the drone industry has always been about more than the technology itself. It is about what people can accomplish when they have the knowledge, training and confidence to put that technology to work.

As Head of Global Training Strategy & Business Development at Volatus Aerospace, Danielle works closely with a global team of instructors and subject matter experts to develop training programs that turn drones, sensors and emerging technologies into practical, real-world capabilities. Since joining Volatus in December 2021, she has helped support the continued growth of Volatus Aerospace, taking on many roles within the company. In her most recent role, she has led the development of Volatus Academy, supporting its instructors in delivering training in Canada and Internationally, from the Arctic to the Caribbean and beyond.

That focus on capability building can be seen across the Academy’s programs, particularly in areas where the right skills can have an immediate impact in the field. From thermal imaging and infrastructure inspection to public safety and emergency response, training gives pilots the practical experience to move beyond simply operating an aircraft to using it effectively as part of a mission.

One example is Volatus Academy’s upcoming Advanced Drone Search & Rescue (SAR) course, taking place November 16–19 in Vaughan, Ontario. Led by SAR instructor Eric Kehoe, the four-day program combines classroom instruction with hands-on, mission-based training in SAR planning, thermal imaging, victim detection, mapping and night operations. Participants will work through realistic field scenarios designed to prepare advanced drone pilots and emergency-response professionals to deploy drones effectively when time, information and safety are critical.

In this edition of Voices of Volatus, Danielle shares what drew her to the industry, why training is essential to building meaningful drone capabilities, and how an unconventional background in art history and the performing arts continues to shape the way she approaches education, communication and technology today.

What do you enjoy most about working with your team?

I get to work with a team that is driven by a passion for what they do. I learn daily from their incredible knowledge and experience. I am inspired by their dedication; they’ve literally gone everywhere to the extreme Arctic north to the Caribbean and the Middle East to train. Getting to work with a team like that makes what I do more than an occupation; it’s a passion.

What excites you most about the work you do?

I know I was quoted in saying something similar in a recent CDR article, but without training, a drone or a sensor is just an expensive piece of really cool technology. I get to support a team of experts who help others transform cool pieces of technologies into meaningful capabilities. They find hidden hotspots, unexploded ordinances, and lost people. They discover problems and risks that aren’t visible with the naked eye: land movement that can cause a landslide, hidden disease in crops and forests, equipment operating too hot and on the verge of breaking down or catching fire. They help soldiers and public safety personnel in the field see around the next corner and what lies ahead, to respond faster and with more information, to access hazardous areas so they don’t have to put their lives at risk. They give Veteran soldiers a second career or a meaningful hobby when they muster out of service. We train people to use drones to accomplish these things and so much more.

What first sparked your interest in aerospace, aviation, drones, autonomy or technology?

I started my career in the drone industry as an editorial analyst for Commercial UAV News. I got to interview the leaders in the industry, everyone from the engineers who made the sensors, software, and the hardware; policy makers and regulators; the end users across multiple sectors (construction, mining, energy, oil & gas, conservation, universities, agriculture, utilities, and more); and the aggregators and problem solvers. Their compelling and inspiring stories reeled me in, and there was no turning back; I was hooked. I quickly saw that drones were a tool that could really make a measurable difference in everything we do, taking on the dull, dirty, and dangerous tasks people have had to do daily to keep our communities functioning. I always wanted to do something meaningful and important, and this felt meaningful and important.

What skills or experiences have shaped your career the most?

The pandemic hit early on in my career and it put a spotlight on what can happen when society is shutdown, and people can’t connect or work together like they would normally. It also underlined just why and how drones could play a part in keeping the lights on. I ended up covering the industry during the pandemic and saw how it changed the industry and the conversations. I think this had a massive impact on my career.

What’s something people may be surprised to learn about you?

I have a master’s degree in art history, and I studied singing, theater, and dance in undergrad for many years. I wanted to be a professor at first. But what may be more surprising is how often I draw from those experiences, as unrelated to drones as they may seem. Art History taught me how to think critically from multiple perspectives: the end user, the buyer, the public perception, the technical, the logistics, and the politics. Like art, drones play multiple roles in our lives, and the political, public, and regulatory domain make that role incredibly complex and complicated. Now I get to work with a team to distill these complex topics into accessible training programs that build real-world capabilities that can make a difference in the workplace and for our communities. As for the singing, theater, and dance background, I may not need to belt out a tune or memorize dance routines anymore, but I draw from that experience to be able to advocate and educate for the industry.

Voices of Volatus: Maria Romero on Finding Purpose in Every Flight
Image File
Original HTML

For Maria Romero Abella, a career in aviation has been shaped by a passion for helicopters, hands-on experience and the opportunity to learn through every flight. With nearly a decade of experience in aviation, Maria brings a practical, adaptable approach to her position as Rotor Wing Technician and Pilot at Volatus Aerospace’s Villeneuve, Alberta, operations.

Since joining Volatus in March 2026, Maria has been building her experience as a helicopter pilot while contributing to real-world operations where every flight serves a purpose. From navigating changing weather conditions to solving operational challenges in the field, she values the dynamic nature of her work and the opportunity to learn from colleagues across aviation, engineering, operations and technology.

Based in Villeneuve, Alberta, Maria works alongside a team of aviation professionals whose diverse experiences and technical expertise support Volatus’ flight operations including Brooke Standeven and Owen Drake.

In this edition of Voices of Volatus, Maria shares what drew her to helicopter aviation, the experiences that have shaped her career, and why she believes the most valuable professional growth comes from taking on opportunities that challenge you to learn.

What do you enjoy most about working with your team?

Aviation attracts many interesting people. There’s usually a good story, a different perspective, or something useful to learn from whoever you’re working with.

What is one project or accomplishment at Volatus you are especially proud of?

Building experience as a helicopter pilot while doing real operational work. Every flight has a purpose beyond simply building hours, which makes the experience more valuable.

What excites you most about the work you do?

The dynamic nature of the day-to-day job is what excites me most. There is always an element of problem-solving, whether it is adapting to changing weather, shifting operational requirements or working through unexpected challenges in the field. You have to stay flexible, think on your feet and be ready to adjust your plan when conditions change. That variety keeps the work interesting and means no two days are exactly the same. I enjoy being in an environment where you are constantly learning, making decisions and finding practical solutions as the day unfolds.

What first sparked your interest in aerospace, aviation, drones, autonomy or technology?

I have been in aviation for about 10 years in different roles and it naturally developed into flying and helicopters. I was drawn to the versatility of the helicopter and the infinite applications.

What skills or experiences have shaped your career the most?

Working in the field has shaped my career the most. Training and studying give you the foundation, but real operations teach you how to prioritize, make decisions and adapt to what is happening in front of you. You learn quickly that conditions are not always perfect, so you have to work with the resources, information and time you have available. That experience builds confidence, judgment and problem-solving skills in a way that classroom learning alone cannot. Nothing develops your skills quite like applying what you have learned in real-world situations.

How would you describe the culture at Volatus?

It’s an unusual and interesting mix of aviation and technology. You can have pilots, engineers, operations and data specialists looking at the same problem from completely different angles.

What’s something people may be surprised to learn about you?

I really enjoy being creative outside of work, whether it’s painting, drawing or doing different craft and projects. It’s a nice contrast to the technical and structured side of the job.

What is the best career advice you’ve received?

Take the job that will teach you something, not just the one that looks best on paper.

About Akari Therapeutics

Akari Therapeutics is an oncology biotechnology company developing next-generation antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) with a unique payload, PH1, which targets RNA splicing. Utilizing its innovative ADC discovery platform, the Company has the ability to generate ADC candidates and optimize them based on the desired application to any antigen target of interest. Akari’s lead candidate, AKTX-101, targets the Trop2 receptor on cancer cells with a proprietary linker, enabling it to deliver its novel PH1 payload directly into the tumor with minimal off-target effects. Unlike current ADCs that use microtubule inhibitors and DNA-damaging agents as their payloads, PH1 is a novel payload that is a spliceosome modulator designed to disrupt RNA splicing within cancer cells. This splicing modulation has been shown in preclinical animal models to induce cancer cell death while activating both the innate and adaptive immune systems to drive robust and durable activity. In preclinical studies, AKTX-101 has been shown to have significant activity and prolonged survival relative to ADCs with traditional payloads. Additionally, AKTX-101 has the potential to be synergistic with checkpoint inhibitors and has demonstrated prolonged survival as both a single agent and in combination with checkpoint inhibitors. The PH1 payload has also been demonstrated to be very active against cancer cells with key oncogenic drivers such as KRAS, BRAF, ARV7, FGFR3 fusions, and others. The Company has initiated IND enabling studies for AKTX-101 with a goal of starting its First-In-Human trial by mid-2027. Akari is also developing AKTX-102, an ADC candidate targeting CEACAM5 (Carcinoembryonic Antigen-related Cell Adhesion Molecule-5), a well-validated tumor antigen broadly expressed across multiple solid tumors. AKTX-102 is designed to leverage Akari’s proprietary PH1 spliceosome-modulating payload and a novel antibody construct to enable differentiated tumor cell killing and immune activation.

Akari advancing IND-enabling activities for AKTX-101 toward planned Phase 1 clinical development in mid-2027

TAMPA, FL and LONDON – August 18, 2026 – Akari Therapeutics, Plc (Nasdaq: AKTX), an oncology biotechnology company developing antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) with novel RNA splicing modulator payloads, today announced new preclinical data demonstrating the potential of AKTX-101, the Company’s proprietary TROP2-targeted ADC utilizing its novel PH1 RNA spliceosome modulating payload, as a differentiated therapeutic approach for urothelial cancer in disease settings where currently available ADC therapies may have limited clinical benefit.

The findings demonstrated meaningful anti-tumor activity across multiple clinically relevant urothelial cancer preclinical models including advanced urothelial cancer with limited response to currently approved ADC therapy, and tumors with acquired resistance following treatment with a first-generation TROP2-directed ADC. Collectively, the data provide additional validation for Akari’s strategy of developing ADCs with a differentiated payload mechanism designed to address emerging limitations associated with existing ADC payload classes, such as microtubule and topoisomerase 1 inhibitors.

“ADC therapies have transformed the treatment landscape across oncology, but the next wave of innovation will require advances beyond conventional payloads classes used with currently approved ADCs,” said Abizer Gaslightwala, President and Chief Executive Officer of Akari Therapeutics. “As ADCs continue moving earlier in the treatment paradigm, more patients will ultimately require additional treatment following relapse, thus creating an urgent need for differentiated payload technologies capable of overcoming resistance and enabling effective ADC payload sequencing strategies. We believe our proprietary PH1 RNA spliceosome modulating payload has the potential to address this important challenge, and these new preclinical findings further strengthen our confidence in AKTX-101 as we advance the program toward Phase 1 development.”

Urothelial cancer has become one of the fastest-growing categories for ADC therapy, with Padcev® (enfortumab vedotin) representing > $3.5B in annual sales. Despite these advances, patients that relapse after receiving PADCEV® continue to face significant unmet medical needs and limited treatment options. As the use of ADCs expands, developing novel payload mechanisms capable of maintaining anti-tumor activity following prior ADC exposure has become an increasingly important priority across the oncology field.

In Akari’s most recent preclinical studies, AKTX-101 demonstrated encouraging activity across multiple urothelial cancer models designed to evaluate its potential therapeutic profile across different clinical settings, including:

- Demonstrated statistically significant anti-tumor activity in the UM-UC-14 advanced urothelial carcinoma model, which represents metastatic urothelial cancer, a setting where Padcev® (enfortumab vedotin) is currently approved as first-line therapy. While Padcev® had limited responsiveness on the tumor in this model, AKTX-101 achieved statistically significant tumor growth inhibition compared with vehicle, supporting the potential of its differentiated payload mechanism in settings where current ADC payloads may have reduced effectiveness.

- Demonstrated encouraging activity following acquired resistance to the first-generation TROP2-directed ADC Trodelvy® (sacituzumab govitecan). Tumors initially treated with Trodelvy subsequently developed resistance and resumed growth. When these resistant tumors were switched from Trodelvy to AKTX-101, tumor growth was again slowed, suggesting that resistance was associated with the Topoisomerase I payload, and that the AKTX-101 PH1 payload mechanism of disrupting RNA splicing can be effective in this resistant setting. These findings support the potential for AKTX-101’s novel PH1 payload to provide therapeutic benefit following prior treatment with first-generation TROP2 ADCs in several areas where these ADCs are currently approved, including potentially breast and lung cancers.

“One of the most important questions facing the ADC field today is how best to treat patients after progression on prior ADC therapies,” said Satyajit Mitra, Ph.D., Head of Oncology R&D at Akari Therapeutics. “The activity we observed in tumors that have developed resistance to Trodelvy is particularly encouraging because it suggests resistance may be driven by the payload rather than loss of the TROP2 target itself. These findings provide compelling support for our hypothesis that introducing a differentiated payload mechanism may overcome payload-specific resistance while preserving target tumor engagement, reinforcing the potential of our PH1 platform to address an increasingly important unmet need in oncology.”

Akari continues to advance IND-enabling activities for AKTX-101 with the goal of initiating a Phase 1 clinical trial in mid-2027. The Company is also expanding development opportunities for its proprietary PH1 payload platform through additional tumor-specific programs and strategic collaborations designed to maximize the platform’s long-term clinical and commercial potential.
