EPB Launches IonQ Forte Enterprise Quantum Computer in Chattanooga

Milestone makes EPB Quantum Center SM America's first commercial quantum computing and networking hub

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- EPB today launched the IonQ Forte Enterprise quantum computer at EPB Quantum Center℠, bringing commercial quantum computing and networking together in one facility for the first time. The milestone further positions Chattanooga as the most comprehensive resource in the U.S. for commercializing real-world quantum solutions. Companies can develop, test and deploy quantum technologies here with access to advanced quantum infrastructure and a growing network of development partners, including the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) and Vanderbilt University.

"Today's launch represents another major step in the growth of a quantum ecosystem found only in Chattanooga," said Vicky Gregg, Chair of the EPB Board of Directors. "Just as EPB's decision to launch the world's first community-wide gig-speed internet shaped our community's future back in 2010, this milestone carries forward our strategy of building advanced infrastructure that enhances the way we serve our customers while opening new economic opportunity for our community."

"EPB and IonQ have built something unique. This Forte Enterprise system complements EPB's quantum networking capabilities, laying the foundation for a full suite of applications for quantum communications and commercialization for their clients," said Niccolo de Masi, Chairman and CEO of IonQ. "Together, we're creating a first-of-its-kind environment where organizations can explore quantum applications today and help shape the opportunities this technology will create tomorrow."

Putting Local Customers and University Partners First

As part of EPB's commitment to benefiting its customers, the EPB Quantum Computing Fellows will be the first to use the new quantum computer, so they can run the quantum algorithms they have been developing to further optimize local power grid circuits. Funded by a $4 million grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the initiative has brought eight graduate researchers with expertise ranging from quantum information science to physics and engineering from all over the U.S. to Chattanooga. The effort focuses on finding ways to further optimize the operation of EPB's advanced, highly automated power grid to reduce costs and enhance resilience for the benefit of local customers.

Starting in early October, EPB Quantum ComputingSM will be open for business. UTC will be the first customer, beginning with research the university is already prepared to run. EPB is also working with Vanderbilt to line up its first project.

"Access to a quantum computer is rare and valuable," said Janet Rehberg, CEO of EPB. "We're starting with our own work to directly benefit our customers while also prioritizing the universities that are investing to expand quantum education, workforce development and research right here in Chattanooga."

Other companies can find out more about EPB Quantum℠ computing and networking resources at EPBQuantum.com.

Opening New Opportunities for Local Economic Growth

Driven by EPB's mission of enhancing quality of life for the people it serves, Chattanooga's quantum infrastructure is already drawing new investment, creating new jobs and supporting major expansions in university academics and research in the city. The investments announced in Chattanooga since EPB Quantum began installing the new quantum computer are projected to expand the local economy by adding hundreds of researchers, faculty, staff and students.

- IonQ is investing $15 million to establish the Tennessee Quantum Communications Research Center in Chattanooga, with plans to create approximately two dozen jobs, including quantum scientists and highly skilled researchers.

- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, which in 2023 became the first American university to connect to a commercial quantum network, is expanding its quantum programs with plans to add 135 to 240 faculty, staff and students.

- Vanderbilt University is partnering with EPB to launch the Institute for Quantum Innovation, which will anchor Vanderbilt's Chattanooga quantum innovation campus with approximately 250 researchers, faculty and staff.

- Hybrid Computing Project: In tandem with the EPB Quantum Fellows project funded by NIST, EPB, IonQ, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and NVIDIA have installed a classical supercomputer within the EPB Quantum Center, and they are collaborating on a hybrid computing project that combines quantum and high-performance classical computing to optimize portions of EPB's advanced automated electric grid and evaluate future applications for increasingly complex energy systems.

To further build on these gains, EPB is hosting the Quantum in Business (QiB) conference on October 1 with more than 400 business leaders, researchers and policymakers from across the U.S. gathering in Chattanooga to learn how companies can benefit from a projected $2.7 trillion in economic value by utilizing quantum computing in the near term while developing the expertise they need to lead their industries as quantum technology advances. The conference is especially targeted to business leaders in the insurance, logistics, automotive and manufacturing, financial, healthcare and chemicals industries, which are projected to gain tremendous value from quantum technology.

"Becoming the first U.S. hub to offer commercially available quantum computing and quantum networking under one roof is a milestone," said Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly. "Just as EPB's fiber network made us a leader in the digital economy, EPB Quantum Center is attracting investment and talent by deploying a technology that is expected to shape industries and economies for decades to come. Over the next decade alone, EPB's quantum initiatives are projected to generate up to $1.1 billion in economic gains for Chattanooga."

How EPB Quantum prepares local people for the quantum jobs of the future

Developing a quantum workforce begins long before students enter college. Through partnerships with local schools, universities and industry leaders, Chattanooga is building a talent pipeline that introduces students to quantum and advanced technology careers at every stage of their education. Combined with EPB's unique commercial quantum infrastructure, these initiatives are helping prepare local people for opportunities emerging in the rapidly growing quantum industry while giving companies new reasons to invest, expand and create jobs in Hamilton County.

- Franklin-Roberts Future Ready Center: EPB and Hamilton County Schools announced the Energy and Quantum Industries Academy, a new program expected to serve approximately 400 high school students annually beginning in 2028. The academy will provide hands-on experience in engineering, cybersecurity, energy systems, communications infrastructure and quantum science.

- TN QuantumWorks: The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development recently selected Hamilton County Schools to pilot a statewide K-12 quantum education initiative designed to introduce students to quantum concepts and build pathways into future quantum careers.

"Our goal is to make sure every person in Hamilton County has an opportunity to benefit from the investments being made in our community," said Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp. "With hundreds of high school students set to train through the Energy and Quantum Industries Academy at Franklin-Roberts Future Ready Center, we're giving young people a chance to see themselves as part of the next generation of quantum innovation."

Five-minute walkthrough shows engineers and contractors how overhead power connects and adapts as equipment layouts change.

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- USA TrackBusway® has released a new T225 installation video to help engineers, electrical contractors and facility teams evaluate overhead power for changing equipment layouts. The five-minute walkthrough shows how the company's 225A-per-phase track busway is assembled, connected and fitted with compatible plug-in power units.

Watch the T225 installation video.

The resource follows the company's June 2026 announcement of T225 availability. It gives project teams a closer look at how the system's parts work together, from suspending a straight run to positioning power connections near equipment. It is intended for teams planning manufacturing rows, robotics cells, laboratories, logistics facilities and suitable data center equipment zones.

"Engineers and contractors need to see how a system fits together before they can judge it for a project," said Michael Gellert, President, USA TrackBusway. "This video walks through the T225 installation sequence and shows how compatible power connections can be repositioned as equipment layouts change."

Four stages, from suspension to equipment connections

- Hanging: See how suspension hardware supports and aligns the straight busway sections.

- Joining: Follow the mechanical and electrical connections between adjacent T225 sections.

- Feeding: See how the end feed connects to the busway run.

- Tap-off units: Watch compatible plug-in power connections being installed and repositioned along the run.

T225 provides continuous plug-in access along the busway. Compatible tap-off units bring power from the overhead run to equipment at selected locations. This lets project teams plan point-of-use power around their layout and review options when equipment moves or needs change.

Video and planning resources in one place

The dedicated watch page links to the T225 installation and operation manual, system information, feed and tap-off options, and technical resources. Engineers and contractors can use these materials to review system components and discuss project requirements with USA TrackBusway.

The video supplements the system manual. Qualified personnel must follow the T225 manual and applicable electrical procedures for installation and reconfiguration.

Project teams can request complimentary layout support to discuss a proposed Track Busway layout.

University of Phoenix study finds GenAI use among online adult learners associated with academic performance and technology confidence
Image File

Peer-reviewed research challenges assumptions that students primarily use generative AI to compensate for academic difficulty or time pressure.

PHOENIX, Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- University of Phoenix scholars have published new peer-reviewed research examining how non-traditional undergraduate students use generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in online higher education. The study found that more frequent GenAI use was significantly associated with higher academic performance and stronger confidence in technology skills, while lower confidence in reading, writing and math and greater time demands from work, study or family responsibilities did not significantly predict use.

The article, "Strategic Integration or Skill Compensation? Understanding GenAI Use in Online Higher Education," was published June 30, 2026, in Artificial Intelligence in Education, 2(1), 205–223. The research was conducted by fellows and scholars affiliated with the University's Center for Educational and Instructional Technology Research (CEITR): Jessica Sylvester, EdD; Melinda Kulick, EdD; Leonidas Maganares, EdD; and Stella Smith, PhD, associate university research chair.

Researchers surveyed 491 non-traditional undergraduate students enrolled in online general education courses. Of those surveyed, 43.2%, or 212 students, reported using GenAI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot or Gemini in their coursework.

Sylvester and Kulick previously presented findings from the research at the 2025 Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) International Convention; a summary of that presentation, "Transforming Higher Education: Harnessing Generative AI for Student Engagement," was subsequently published in The Journal of Applied Instructional Design.

GenAI use linked to academic performance and digital confidence

Multiple regression analysis identified two statistically significant predictors of how frequently students used GenAI:

- Higher GPA: Students with stronger academic performance reported more frequent GenAI use.

- Greater technology confidence: Students who felt more confident in their technology skills also reported using GenAI more frequently.

- Academic confidence: Confidence in reading, writing and math did not significantly predict GenAI use.

- Time demands: Hours spent studying, working or meeting family responsibilities were not significantly related to GenAI use.

Among students who reported using GenAI, 91.1% had a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and 68.9% earned a 4.0 in the course in which they reported using GenAI.

"These findings complicate the assumption that students primarily turn to generative AI because they are struggling academically or simply looking to save time," said Sylvester, senior manager of College Operations at University of Phoenix and lead author of the study. "Instead, we found GenAI use associated with stronger academic performance and digital confidence. That points to an important opportunity for higher education to help all learners develop the digital fluency, critical judgment and ethical awareness needed to engage with AI effectively."

Students describe GenAI as a tool for understanding and idea development

Open-ended responses from the 212 students who reported using GenAI provided additional context about how they incorporated the technology into their coursework. The three most prominent themes were:

- improving understanding and clarifying complex concepts

- using GenAI as a "thinking partner" or learning aid for brainstorming and organizing ideas

- increasing efficiency and productivity in academic tasks.

Students also identified concerns about the accuracy and originality of AI-generated content, preservation of their individual academic voice and uncertainty about appropriate use under academic integrity policies.

The researchers suggest the findings support a shift from approaches focused primarily on restricting AI toward clearer guidance that develops GenAI literacy, critical evaluation skills and transparent, ethical use. The study recommends incorporating AI literacy across disciplines, creating assignments that encourage students to critique and reflect on AI-generated information and providing consistent institutional guidance about appropriate use.

Because the research used a cross-sectional, correlational design and a non-probability sample from one online university, the findings do not establish that GenAI use causes stronger academic performance and should not be generalized to all college students. The authors recommend longitudinal and multi-institutional research to examine how patterns of GenAI use evolve and whether AI-supported learning affects longer-term academic outcomes.

In HelloNation, Expert Chiropractor Dr. Craig Peterson Details How Quickly You Can Feel Relief After a Chiropractic Adjustment
Image File

The article outlines how condition severity, consistency, and individual response influence how quickly chiropractic care provides results.

GILBERT, Ariz., Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- How quickly can someone feel relief after a chiropractic adjustment?

The answer is explored in a HelloNation article featuring Dr. Craig Peterson of The Joint Chiropractic, which explains how chiropractic care works over time to improve mobility and reduce discomfort.

The HelloNation article explains that the speed of relief after a chiropractic adjustment can vary depending on the condition being treated, how long symptoms have been present, and how the body responds. While some individuals notice changes shortly after a chiropractor visit, others may experience more gradual improvement with continued chiropractic care.

For mild or recent issues, relief may be felt quickly. The article notes that some patients report reduced stiffness, improved mobility, or less tension soon after a chiropractic adjustment. This immediate response is often linked to restored joint movement and reduced pressure in the affected area.

However, not all conditions respond at the same pace. Individuals experiencing chronic back pain or long-standing neck pain may require multiple chiropractor visits before noticing consistent improvement. In these cases, chiropractic care helps the body gradually adapt as spinal alignment and function improve.

The nature of the condition plays an important role. Acute concerns, such as recent strain, often respond faster than conditions that have developed over time. The article explains that chiropractic care focuses on improving spinal alignment and mobility, but lasting changes may require consistency.

It is also common for the body to respond differently after a chiropractic adjustment. Some patients feel immediate relief, while others may experience mild soreness or temporary discomfort. This response is similar to post-exercise sensations, as the body adjusts to new movement patterns, and is often followed by gradual improvement.

Consistency in chiropractic care is another key factor. While one chiropractor visit may provide some relief, ongoing care is often recommended to support longer-term results. Regular chiropractic adjustment sessions help reinforce improvements in spinal alignment and mobility.

Lifestyle habits can also influence outcomes. The article notes that posture, activity level, and daily routines all affect how the body responds to chiropractic care. Individuals who maintain supportive habits may experience more consistent improvement in back pain and neck pain.

Expectations are an important part of the process. The article emphasizes that while some individuals feel relief quickly, others may need several chiropractor visits to achieve noticeable results. This variation reflects how different bodies respond to chiropractic care.

Communication with the chiropractor helps guide treatment. Sharing feedback after each chiropractor visit allows adjustments to the care plan and ensures that progress is monitored effectively.

The article also highlights that chiropractic care often addresses underlying causes rather than just symptoms. By improving spinal alignment and mobility, chiropractic adjustment techniques support long-term changes that may take time to fully develop.

Over time, small improvements can build into more noticeable results. Increased mobility, reduced stiffness, and improved comfort may develop gradually, even if immediate relief is limited.

The article concludes that relief after a chiropractic adjustment depends on several factors, including condition severity and consistency of care. Whether immediate or gradual, chiropractic care provides a structured approach to improving mobility, reducing back pain and neck pain, and supporting overall spinal alignment.

How Quickly Can You Feel Relief After a Chiropractic Adjustment? features insights from Dr. Craig Peterson, Expert Chiropractor of Gilbert, AZ, in HelloNation.

Future of STEM Scholars Initiative Opens Applications for 2027 STEM Scholars

Program celebrates exceptional graduate outcomes, welcomes newest scholar class, and continues building the future chemical industry workforce

WASHINGTON, Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) today opened applications for its next class of scholars, continuing its mission to connect talented students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with scholarships, mentorship, internships, and career development opportunities that help launch successful careers in the chemical industry.

FOSSI scholarships are open to high school seniors who aim to pursue industry-relevant STEM degrees at HBCUs, and with interest in a career in the chemical industry.

Founded in 2020 by the American Chemistry Council (ACC), the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), Chemours, and the HBCU Week Foundation, FOSSI has become one of the nation's leading industry-supported STEM scholarship programs. To date, the initiative has funded more than 900 scholarships, raised more than $40 million, and supported students attending over 40 HBCUs across the country to work in the chemical industry.

Each FOSSI scholar receives a scholarship of $10,000 per year for four years, along with access to leadership development, mentoring, internship opportunities, and networking experiences with sponsoring companies.

As applications open, FOSSI also celebrates the success of its most recent graduates and welcomes its newest class of scholars, who began their academic journeys this year and are expected to graduate in 2030.

Outcomes from FOSSI's first graduating classes demonstrate the program's impact. Scholars have graduated at nearly three times the average four-year graduation rate at HBCUs. Nearly 80 percent of graduates are either employed full-time in STEM-related fields or pursuing graduate education. Compared with non-FOSSI graduates, scholars are twice as likely to secure full-time employment in their intended field. Many are already launching careers within the chemical manufacturing industry at FOSSI sponsoring organizations.

"One of the most rewarding parts of FOSSI is seeing talented young people gain the confidence, support, and opportunities they need to pursue their ambitions," said Mark Costa, Chair of the FOSSI Advisory Board and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Eastman Chemical Company. "When we invest in students, we're investing in the future innovators, scientists, engineers, and leaders who will help solve some of society's most important challenges. It's especially exciting to see our first graduates already building successful careers in the chemical industry and related STEM fields, while we welcome a new class of scholars who are just beginning their journey. That's the lasting impact of FOSSI."

FOSSI scholars say the program's impact extends far beyond the financial support it provides.

"My dream is to be able to conduct and pioneer research in the chemical field. This dream was made that much more possible by FOSSI. Their support both financially and academically have transformed my dreams into goals. Now, I can dream bigger," said Samiya Miller, a FOSSI Scholar attending North Carolina A&T State University.

Applications will be accepted through January 8, 2027. Eligible students can apply here.

Radon Testing Expert Mitch Kelley Explains How a Radon Mitigation System Works in HelloNation
Image File

The article outlines follow-up testing, system maintenance, and how homeowners can confirm long-term radon reduction.

MANKATO, Minn., Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ --How can homeowners be sure their radon mitigation system is actually reducing radon levels? A HelloNation article, featuring insights from Radon Testing Expert Mitch Kelley of Basement Solutions in Mankato, Minnesota, provides the answer by explaining how homeowners can monitor system performance after installation. The article outlines how follow-up testing and routine system checks can help confirm continued radon reduction over time.

The HelloNation article explains that once a radon mitigation system is installed, most homes show measurable improvement within 24 to 48 hours. A certified radon professional designs each system to safely vent radon gas from beneath the home to the outside. This immediate reduction provides early reassurance, but confirmation through follow-up testing is an essential next step.

The article describes how a radon mitigation system works. A fan continuously pulls radon from beneath the foundation and moves it through a series of pipes before releasing it outdoors. A small gauge called a manometer is installed on the system to show whether it is operating correctly. If the manometer reading changes or shows no pressure difference, it may indicate a problem that requires attention.

Follow-up testing plays a central role in confirming radon reduction. The article notes that certified radon professionals typically recommend testing two to three months after installation. This follow-up testing ensures that radon levels remain below recommended safety thresholds and validates the effectiveness of the system design.

Homeowners are encouraged to keep detailed records of all testing. Dates, results, and testing methods should be documented and stored safely. These records can support future real estate transactions and provide proof that the radon mitigation system has consistently maintained safe radon levels.

System maintenance is generally straightforward. The fan is designed to operate continuously, and most systems function for years without major service. The article advises homeowners to periodically check the manometer and listen for unusual noises from the fan. Regular observation supports long-term home safety and helps detect potential issues early.

The HelloNation article also emphasizes that system design varies depending on the structure of the home. Basements, crawl spaces, and slab-on-grade foundations each require different venting strategies. A certified radon professional evaluates these characteristics before installation, selecting appropriate fan strength, pipe placement, and sealing methods to maximize radon reduction.

Even after installation, the article explains that radon mitigation is not a one-time task. Periodic follow-up testing every two years, or after major renovations, is recommended to ensure radon levels remain low. Changes in ventilation, foundation conditions, or nearby construction can affect how a radon mitigation system performs over time.

Maintaining low radon levels contributes to overall home safety and indoor air quality. Homes with documented radon reduction may also be viewed more favorably by prospective buyers. By maintaining proper system maintenance and scheduling routine testing, homeowners demonstrate responsible property care.

The article concludes that combining professional installation, regular monitoring of the manometer, and consistent follow-up testing provides confidence in long-term performance. A properly maintained radon mitigation system protects families from prolonged exposure and ensures that radon reduction efforts remain effective for years.

How to Know Your Radon Mitigation System Works features insights from Mitch Kelley, Radon Testing Expert of Mankato, Minnesota, in HelloNation.
