PUEBLO, Colo., Sept. 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- When should parents be concerned if their child isn't meeting movement milestones like crawling, jumping, or catching? A HelloNation article answers this question with guidance from Kathy Schleifer, Pediatric Occupational Therapy Expert in Pueblo. The article explores how gross and fine motor skills Pueblo children develop over time and how early intervention occupational therapy can help address motor delays before they affect confidence or daily life.

Motor skills are the foundation of how children explore and interact with their surroundings. Schleifer explains that gross motor skills include large movements such as sitting, walking, or running, while fine motor skills involve smaller, more precise actions like buttoning a shirt or using a pencil. Each stage of development builds on earlier abilities, creating a steady progression of coordination, strength, and control.

The HelloNation article highlights that every child develops differently, but consistent delays can signal that additional support may be needed. A baby who is not crawling by ten months or a child who struggles with climbing, catching, or balancing might benefit from a professional evaluation. In Pueblo, pediatric occupational therapy offers families insight into these patterns and guidance for building skills through play and movement.

Gross and fine motor skills Pueblo professionals focus on helping children move efficiently and confidently. Schleifer describes how therapy begins with a thorough assessment of how a child moves, plays, and manipulates objects. The occupational therapist observes posture, muscle tone, and coordination to identify strengths and areas needing improvement. This individualized process ensures that each child receives support tailored to their developmental level and specific challenges.

Once an occupational therapy plan is in place, sessions often look like play but are intentionally structured for growth. The HelloNation article explains that a toddler may crawl through tunnels or climb soft ramps to strengthen core muscles, while an older child might work with clay or tweezers to refine fine motor control. These engaging, play-based exercises help children develop both physical ability and emotional confidence in what their bodies can do.

Motor delay can result from a variety of factors, including muscle weakness, low tone, or sensory processing differences. Schleifer emphasizes that identifying the cause early allows therapists to target the right areas for improvement. Early intervention occupational therapy helps children make measurable progress in daily activities such as feeding themselves, writing, dressing, or keeping up during recess.

The HelloNation article also underscores that addressing motor skills early can have lasting emotional benefits. When children gain control over movement, they often experience a boost in self-esteem and independence. Schleifer points out that small successes—like catching a ball or zipping a jacket—can have a big impact on how children see themselves. These moments of progress encourage a positive attitude toward learning and trying new things.

In Pueblo, occupational therapy for children is designed to be both effective and enjoyable. The therapy process combines professional guidance with activities that feel like play. Movement games, obstacle courses, and creative tasks keep children motivated while developing coordination and balance. Parents are involved in each session, learning techniques they can practice at home to reinforce progress in everyday routines.

Gross and fine motor skills Pueblo programs evolve as children grow. Schleifer and her team adjust therapy goals to match each child's developmental stage, ensuring continued growth. Some children need short-term support, while others benefit from ongoing therapy to strengthen complex motor patterns. The key, according to Schleifer, is consistency and patience. Every new skill builds on previous ones, and improvement often happens through repetition and encouragement rather than pressure.

Early intervention occupational therapy in Pueblo gives families tools to understand and support their child's growth. The HelloNation article emphasizes that seeking help early can prevent frustration later on. When children develop stronger coordination and balance, they participate more fully in school and play, setting the stage for long-term success.

The article concludes by reminding parents that motor development is a journey, not a race. While every child's timeline is unique, expert evaluation can offer reassurance and direction. Schleifer's work at Pueblo Pediatric Therapy Center shows that with early support and playful engagement, children can thrive physically and emotionally. Each milestone, from crawling to catching, reflects the combined effort of therapy, family involvement, and a child's determination to grow.

Spring Health Opens VERA-MH Harm-From-Others Safety Rubric for Public Comment

The expansion adds a harm-from-others safety area to VERA-MH, the first open-source AI safety benchmark for mental health, and invites public feedback ahead of Domestic Violence Awareness Month

NEW YORK, Sept. 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Spring Health, a global mental health company built on one AI-native platform, today expanded VERA-MH, the first open-source AI safety benchmark for mental health, into a second clinical safety area: harm from others. As more people turn to AI for emotional support1, Spring Health is helping build the standards by which mental health AI should be measured.

The VERA-MH Harm-From-Others rubric evaluates how AI systems respond when an adult describes being at risk of physical or sexual violence from another person. Developed with clinicians, subject-matter experts in interpersonal violence, and people with lived experience, it is scored across five areas: detecting the risk, confirming it, guiding the person to human care, supportive conversation, and following AI boundaries. Drawing on 100 realistic personas, it is the first open-source benchmark of its kind.

"There are many moments when someone's safety depends on how an AI responds, and harm from others is one of the most urgent and least addressed," said Dr. Mill Brown, Chief Medical Officer at Spring Health. "In clinical care, we don't wait for a crisis to know what a safe response looks like. We train for it and hold ourselves to a standard. AI deserves that same rigor, not a guess."

The expansion comes as VERA-MH gains independent validation. OpenAI's newly published MentalHealthBench paper cites VERA-MH's SI (suicidal ideation) rubric as one of the few frameworks built specifically to assess safe AI responses to risk.

VERA-MH is open source, and any organization, including those building general-purpose AI models, can use it to test their own systems. It was launched in October 2025 in collaboration with members of the AI in Mental Health Safety and Ethics Council, including Dr. Nina Vasan of Stanford University School of Medicine, Lilly Wyttenbach of JPMorgan Chase, Dr. Don Mordecai of Kaiser Permanente, Hans Hage of UnitedHealthcare, Dr. Nils Opel of Charité – Berlin University Hospital, Dr. Julian De Freitas of Harvard Business School, Fred Thiele of Microsoft, Dr. Tim Hahn of the University of Münster, and Dr. John Krystal of Yale School of Medicine.

In advance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, public feedback on the Harm-From-Others rubric opens today for the next 60 days through an online form, the same process Spring Health used for the suicide-risk benchmark. The rubric and personas are published in the VERA-MH repository, which is open for feedback and contributions.

Overlord Labs Closes Oversubscribed Seed Financing, Bringing Total Funding to $10 Million to Advance Battery Intelligence for Edge AI Devices
Image File
Original HTML

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Overlord Labs, Inc., a fabless semiconductor company building battery intelligence infrastructure for compute-intensive, battery-powered devices, today announced the close of its oversubscribed Seed financing, bringing total funding raised to-date to $10 million. The total comprises $7.25 million in Seed financing and the remainder in non-dilutive strategic development funding.

The financing comes as Overlord Labs transitions from tape-out to product validation, following the successful bring-up of its flagship GENESIS™ Battery Intelligence IC, built on the company's proprietary Silicon × Algorithm Architecture. With silicon operating, the company is advancing validation and preparing to begin customer sampling.

The $4.35 million Seed extension was led by Band of Angels and drew participation from Foothill Ventures, Unlock Pacific Ventures, NuFund Venture Group, Sand Hill Angels and Castle Fund. The round also included returning strategic angel investors, who backed Overlord Labs in its earlier financings and invested additional capital in the extension alongside the new institutional investors.

As compute continues moving to the edge, battery-powered devices are placing unprecedented demands on power efficiency, thermal management, safety and runtime. Traditional fixed-function battery management ICs were not designed for this new generation of intelligent products. Overlord Labs' Silicon × Algorithm Architecture solves this by building battery intelligence directly into silicon, giving OEMs a more adaptable foundation for these systems.

The first GENESIS™ device targets single-cell systems and is designed to support both established and emerging battery chemistries, including silicon-anode cells. Initial applications include smart glasses, wearables, hearables and other edge AI devices, where rising compute demands must be met within tight battery and form-factor limits.

Overlord Labs will use the capital to complete validation and qualification, support customer sampling and Tier-1 OEM engagements, expand its firmware and battery-algorithm capabilities, and build the production infrastructure needed for commercial scale. The company is targeting volume production in the first half of 2027.

"We started Overlord Labs because battery management architectures were no longer keeping pace with the devices they power," said Richard Nicholson, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Overlord Labs. "We now have working silicon, active customer engagement and an investor syndicate, including angels who came back to invest again, that understands the scale of the opportunity. This capital gives us the resources to move GENESIS™ through customer validation and toward production."

"Hardware OEMs have historically faced a rigid trifecta of trade-offs: performance, form factor, and battery life," said Carlos Rodriguez, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Overlord Labs. "We engineered GENESIS™ to break those constraints, giving product teams the software-defined silicon they need to scale all three without compromise. With the Seed financing complete, our focus is getting GENESIS™ into customers' hands and building the foundation to scale."

About Overlord Labs

Overlord Labs is a fabless semiconductor company building battery intelligence infrastructure for the next generation of compute-intensive, battery-powered devices. Powered by its proprietary Silicon × Algorithm Architecture, the company's GENESIS™ Battery Intelligence Platform integrates advanced battery intelligence directly into silicon, enabling OEMs to improve runtime, safety, performance, and design flexibility. Initially focused on wearables, smart glasses, and edge AI devices, the platform is designed to scale across a broad range of battery-powered systems. Headquartered in San Jose, California, Overlord Labs is engineering battery intelligence from the silicon up.

Brian and Chris O'Keefe of BrightStar Care Named Franchisee of the Year by International Franchise Association

Northern California-Based Franchise Owners Recognized for Embodying the Leadership, Generosity, and Community-Minded Spirit that Best Defines Franchising

CHICAGO, Sept. 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Brian and Chris O'Keefe, multi-unit owners of BrightStar Care in Northern California, have been named 2026 Franchisees of the Year by the International Franchise Association (IFA). The award recognizes franchisees who exemplify outstanding leadership, business growth and community impact within their franchise systems.

The O'Keefes' path to BrightStar Care began with a personal experience that showed them firsthand how hard it can be to find high-quality, reliable care for a loved one. That experience inspired them to build something that eventually raised the standard of care for families throughout their community for years to come.

In 2019, Brian and Chris joined the BrightStar Care system, acquiring the San Francisco and Marin County territory with a clear goal: deliver dependable, nurse-led home care while building a business rooted in trust. Today, the O'Keefes are multi-unit owners operating nine territories across Northern California, expanding their impact while staying true to the care standards that represent the brand.

"Brian and Christine represent the very best of BrightStar Care. Brian's experiences as a veteran, technology CEO and financial services executive bring a unique perspective to their business, but what stands out most is how generously he shares that experience with others," said Josh Wall, CEO of BrightStar Care. "We are incredibly grateful to have franchise owners who care so deeply about serving their clients, supporting their fellow franchisees and advancing the BrightStar Care brand. They are exceptionally deserving of this recognition, and we could not be happier for them."

The O'Keefes were honored at the IFA26 Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C., Sept. 14-16, for being outstanding franchise owners with excellence in entrepreneurship, community outreach, workforce development, and service to others. The award recognizes franchise owners across various industries and communities around the country who demonstrate excellence in business, give back, create opportunities and support their fellow franchisees.

"Franchisees of the Year demonstrate what franchising is all about – individuals who have committed their lives and careers to the betterment of those around them, building something bigger than themselves," said Matt Haller, President and CEO of the International Franchise Association. "We are proud to recognize Brian and Chris O'Keefe with IFA's highest honor for individual franchisees and celebrate their commitment to making a difference both within their business and beyond."

Aside from commitment to their own brand, Brian and Chris continuously invest deeply in the franchise community around them. As members of the technology committee within BrightStar Care's Franchise Advisory Council, they have worked to pioneer AI initiatives, helping shape tools designed to benefit owners across the franchise network. They also remain devoted to being available to fellow franchisees and prospective owners by offering mentorship, candid guidance, and insight into lessons that can only be learned from experience.

The O'Keefes' dedication to service extends far beyond their business as well. As residents of Mill Valley, California, for more than 15 years, Brian and Chris are fixtures of their community. They volunteer at their children's schools, coach youth sports and organize Boy Scout campouts. As parents to four children, they lead at home with the same values that guide their business: reliability, compassion and showing up for others.

Their journey reflects what franchising makes possible at its best: the chance to build a rewarding business, strengthen a community and lift up others along the way. Brian and Chris have grown an impressive business - all while being mentors, collaborators and leaders throughout their journey. For these reasons, they embody the very qualities the IFA Franchisee of the Year award was created to honor.

BETR INVESTOR DEADLINE: Better Home & Finance Holding Company Investors with Substantial Losses Have Opportunity to Lead Shareholder Class Action Lawsuit

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Better Home & Finance (NASDAQ: BETR) faces a securities class action after it reported that its Q1 2026 net loss increased 75% sequentially (and 39% year over year) and drastically walked back on assurances of $1 billion monthly loan volume by the end of May.

The news drove the price of Better Home shares over 28% lower on May 7, 2026. After the Class Period, the company fired its CEO.

The developments have prompted national shareholders rights firm Hagens Berman to investigate claims that Better Home violated federal securities laws.

The firm urges Better Home investors who suffered substantial losses to submit your losses now.

Better Home & Finance (BETR) Securities Class Action:

On March 13, 2026, Better Home reported its Q4 2025 financial results, touted its funded loan volume growth and its conversion rates (the process of converting website visits or mortgage applicants to actual funded loan customers)

During the earnings call that day, then CEO Vishal Garg advised investors that "[w]e remain on track to reach $1 billion in monthly volume by May 2026 and to reach adjusted EBITDA breakeven by the end of the third quarter 2026." In addition, CFO Loveen Advani assured investors that "Better continues to generate opportunities independent of the broader economic and mortgage market conditions[]" and "[w]ith a large addressable market and less than 1% share today, we have demonstrated the ability to grow regardless of macro conditions."

The lawsuit is focused on the propriety of these and other assurances given to investors by the company and its management.

More specifically, according to the complaint, Better Home did not disclose crucial information to investors – namely, that the company's conversion funnel was already slowing due to macro factors and, as a result, the $1 billion monthly funded loan target was likely to be deferred.

Investors learned the truth on May 7, 2026 when Better Home reported dismal Q1 2026 results. Instead of hitting monthly $1 billion in loan volume, the company slashed the number and said that for the three months comprising Q2 investors should expect slower quarterly loan volume of just $1.65 billion at the mid-point. In other words, in contrast to being "on track to reach" $1 billion monthly loan volume, Better Home's new target of just $550 million loan volume per month represents a whopping 45% miss.

In addition, net loss sequentially increased 75% and year over year increased 39%.

During the earnings call that day, Garg admitted "conversion rates are down from where they were in Q1 due to macro factors."

The market swiftly reacted, sending the price of Better Home shares down over 28% that day. Year to date, the stock is down nearly 60%.

"We're focused on when Better Home knew it was not resilient to macroeconomic factors and that its $1 billion monthly loan volume target was unattainable," said Reed Kathrein, the Hagens Berman partner leading the firm's investigation.

NJASAP Applauds Senate for Passage of Aeromedical Reform Measures

Pilot union urges House to demonstrate same commitment

to professional pilot community by passing companion legislation

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The NetJets Association of Shared Aircraft Pilots (NJASAP) commends the U.S. Senate for its passage of S. 3257, the John A. Hauser Mental Health in Aviation Act, and S. 3258, the Aviation Medication Transparency Act. NJASAP represents the 3,800-plus professional pilots who fly in the service of NetJets Aviation, Inc., a Berkshire Hathaway company.

The separate pieces of legislation address two of the professional pilot community's central aeromedical concerns: S. 3257 seeks to mitigate pilot reluctance to pursue treatment for a mental health concern for fear of putting their career in jeopardy, while S. 3258 tackles the lack of specificity on medications that are compatible with medical certification.

"The Senate's passage of S. 3257 clearly prioritizes pilot mental health: It modifies the FAA's aeromedical system in a way that encourages air crew to seek treatment for mental health concerns without fear of losing their medical certificate," NJASAP President Capt. Pedro Leroux said. The legislation directs the Administration to revise outdated regulations, to hasten overlong timelines that keep pilots in a state of uncertainty and to conduct an annual review of the special issuance process.

Added NJASAP Government Affairs Committee Chair Capt. Coley George," Aeromedical processes have been in need of reform for a very long time, motivating NJASAP and our labor peers to urge Congress and the FAA to modernize how the Administration approaches pilot mental health. Our intent is not to remove important safeguards, but to expand and refine treatment and medication options in response to evidence-based treatment options – and to do so in accordance with a reasonable timeline."

The second piece of legislation, S. 3258, takes similarly important steps toward removing the ambiguity that surrounds medication – what a pilot can and cannot take and retain their medical certificate. "From over-the-counter medications to prescription medications and the dosages and strengths related to the same, it can prove exceptionally difficult to stay clear of the line that separates what the FAA allows and what it does not," Leroux said.

"We urge the House to pass the Aviation Medication Transparency Act and ask Congress to complete its work on both bills, so these commonsense reforms can be sent to the President's desk for his signature," George said.

The federal advisory council provides recommendations through the Secretaries of the Interior and Agriculture on wildlife and habitat conservation, hunting and shooting sports, conservation partnerships and public access.

The appointment brings together Kröger's experience in federal restoration, academic science and global wildlife conservation.

Prior to founding The Origins Foundation, Kröger served as the first chief scientist of the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council, helping establish the scientific framework guiding large-scale restoration following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. He also served as a professor in the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture at Mississippi State University.

Today, Kröger leads The Origins Foundation, a global conservation organization supporting wildlife projects, research, sustainable-use initiatives and field partnerships around the world.

"Conservation is strongest when science, practical field experience and the people who interact with wildlife are part of the same conversation," Kröger said. "I'm honored to contribute that perspective and work alongside people committed to the future of wildlife and America's outdoor traditions."

Kröger's international conservation work provides another perspective for a council focused on the future of wildlife management and hunting in the United States, connecting lessons from conservation programs around the world with federal discussions at home.

The Department of the Interior announced the appointments Sept. 21 as part of the recently reestablished council.

PomeGran Places #1 in Telecom Services for the Second Consecutive Year in The Globe and Mail's Annual Ranking of Canada's Top Growing Companies

PomeGran ranks #82 nationally with 348% three-year revenue growth, marking its second consecutive year among Canada's Top Growing Companies.

TORONTO, Sept. 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- PomeGran Inc. (PomeGran) today announced that it has been recognized as the #1 Telecom Services provider for the second consecutive year in The Globe and Mail's Report on Business magazine's 2026 ranking of Canada's Top Growing Companies. PomeGran ranked #82 out of 375 companies nationwide, based on verified three-year revenue growth of 348% from 2022 to 2025. The company is listed within the ranking's Technology and Telecom category.

The recognition follows PomeGran's strong performance in 2025, when the company also ranked #1 in Telecom Services and #62 overall among 400 companies, with three-year revenue growth of 557%.

PomeGran's continued position among Canada's fastest-growing companies reflects the company's sustained expansion in the digital infrastructure sector and its continued investment in sovereign digital infrastructure, fibre-enabled neocloud services and Indigenous and underserved communities across Ontario and Quebec.

"Being recognized, once again, among Canada's fastest-growing companies, and ranking #1 in Telecom Services for the second consecutive year, is an important validation of the business we continue to build," said Dr. Kalai S. Kalaichelvan, Chairman & CEO of PomeGran. "PomeGran's growth reflects our long-term commitment to investing in Canadian sovereign digital infrastructure, expanding connectivity in Indigenous and underserved communities, and building the neocloud platforms and services that will power the next phase of our growth," he stated.

Sustaining Growth While Building the Next Phase of Impact

PomeGran's 348% three-year revenue growth reflects a period of significant expansion across the company's infrastructure, network and telecommunications operations.

The company has continued to expand its sovereign fibre footprint across Ontario and Quebec while strengthening its ability to deliver reliable, high-speed connectivity to rural, remote and Indigenous communities.

NIVO, PomeGran's new customer-facing Internet and connectivity brand, is driving PomeGran's growth, by serving residential and enterprise customers, as the company's fibre footprint continues to expand. The addition of neocloud and AI compute services is a natural evolution in PomeGran's establishment as the leading Canadian provider of rural fibre-based broadband and digital infrastructure services.

Over the past 12 months, NIVO's subscriber base has grown by more than 38%, driven by the continued expansion of PomeGran's fibre footprint and growth across residential and enterprise customers. Over the same period, PomeGran's fibre footprint across Ontario and Quebec has increased by more than 43%, extending the company's ability to deliver high-speed connectivity and digital infrastructure services to more customers and communities. The continued expansion of NIVO represents an important component of PomeGran's next stage of growth, allowing the company to translate its infrastructure investments into stronger customer relationships and broader telecommunications services.

"Connectivity is about more than infrastructure. When we bring reliable, high-speed Internet to a community, we are helping create economic opportunity, giving local businesses the tools to grow, and making it easier for people to work, learn and build their lives where they choose," said John Bednarek, Chief Revenue Officer of PomeGran. "For families, it means being able to stay connected to the people and services that matter. For communities, it means creating stronger connections and new opportunities for long-term growth."

"We have spent the past several years building the infrastructure required to connect communities that have historically been underserved," added Kalaichelvan. "NIVO allows us to build on that foundation and create a more complete digital experience, from the fibre in the ground through to the services delivered to our customers. PomeGran continues to invest in digital infrastructure across Ontario and Quebec, supporting the expansion of high-speed connectivity and the development of more resilient, locally focused telecommunications and neocloud networks," he concluded.

The full list of 2026 winners, along with editorial coverage, is published in the October issue of Report on Business magazine. The list is also published online here.

"Our annual ranking of Canada's Top Growing Companies celebrates the innovation, ambition and resilience of businesses across the country, and we're always excited to share as many of these standout stories as we can—including insight from the entrepreneurs themselves on how other companies can succeed, too," says Dawn Calleja, Editor of Report on Business magazine.

Special 2026 Caribbean edition strengthens integration between Canadian and West Indies cricket ahead of the tournament's return to Canada in 2027

- Canadian Tournament, Caribbean Stage: NCL GT20 Canada is a Canadian professional T20 franchise tournament. Its 2026 edition will be staged in the Caribbean in St. Vincent and the Grenadines during the October-November window, before returning to Canada in 2027.

- Cricket Integration: The 2026 edition is designed to deepen the relationship between Canadian and West Indies cricket by connecting players, administrators, fans and commercial partners across both regions.

- Collaborative Framework: Cricket Canada and Cricket West Indies (CWI) will work within a collaborative governance and regulatory framework for the tournament.

- Long-Term Opportunity: The Caribbean edition is intended to create stronger player pathways and lasting cricketing and commercial relationships that can continue when NCL GT20 returns to Canada next year.

TORONTO and BRIDGETOWN, Barbados , Sept. 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- NCL GT20 Canada, Canada's professional T20 franchise tournament, will stage its 2026 edition in the Caribbean during the October-November window, creating a unique bridge between Canadian and West Indies cricket.

Being held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the move to the Caribbean is specific to the 2026 tournament, with NCL GT20 Canada scheduled to return to Canada for its 2027 edition. Rather than representing a relocation of the Canadian tournament, this year's Caribbean staging is designed to deepen cricketing, developmental and commercial ties between Canada and the West Indies.

Working collaboratively with Cricket Canada and Cricket West Indies (CWI), the 2026 tournament will bring together Canadian, Caribbean and international talent on one platform. It provides an opportunity to strengthen player pathways between Canada and the Caribbean while building relationships that can continue when the tournament returns to Canada next year.

A Bridge Between Canadian and West Indies Cricket

The Caribbean edition represents an opportunity to establish a long-term cricketing bridge between Canada and the West Indies.

Canadian and emerging North American players will have the opportunity to compete alongside established Caribbean and international cricketers, while West Indies players will gain greater exposure to the Canadian cricket ecosystem.

When NCL GT20 returns to Canada in 2027, these relationships can provide a foundation for continued player exchanges, development programmes, commercial partnerships and fan engagement between the two regions.

A Collaborative Framework for Growth

Under the collaborative framework, CWI will play an important role in governance, compliance and regulatory coordination and will also hold a direct franchise investment.

The structure reflects a broader objective of creating sustainable sporting and commercial connections across the Americas while maintaining strong standards of administration and competition.

Arvinder Khosa, President of Cricket Canada, said:

"NCL GT20 is fundamentally a Canadian tournament, and the Caribbean provides a special home for our 2026 edition. This is about much more than taking a tournament to another country for one season. It is about building a bridge between Canadian and West Indies cricket, connecting players, administrators, fans and commercial partners. We thank Cricket West Indies for their support in delivering this tournament in the Caribbean. When NCL GT20 returns to Canada next year, we want to bring those relationships with us and create a lasting pathway between the Caribbean and Canada."

Chris Dehring, Chief Executive Officer of Cricket West Indies, said:

"NCL GT20 Canada, together with the deep cricketing tradition of the West Indies, creates an exciting opportunity for collaboration. Hosting the 2026 tournament in the Caribbean before its return to Canada next year marks the beginning of a partnership that can facilitate the continued development of Canadian cricket while showcasing our region as one of the great cricketing regions of world cricket.

"As the only full member of the ICC in the hemisphere, we believe it is important to forge mutually beneficial relationships with ICC Associate Members across the region, for the health of the game and, indeed, for the continued development of West Indies cricket."

Hon. Kaschaka Cupid, Minister of Youth, Sports, Culture and Creative Industries for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, said:

"We welcome the opportunity to host the NCL GT20 League in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Bringing world-class sporting events to our shores is a major part of my mandate, and I am delighted that we can respond favourably to the request to host this historic event in the Caribbean. We look forward to working with the NCL GT20 and all stakeholders to deliver an outstanding event and a memorable experience for players, fans and visitors alike."

International T20 Cricket in the Caribbean

The October-November tournament window is expected to bring together international players, established Caribbean cricketers, Canadian players and emerging North American talent for a celebration of T20 cricket.

Beyond the field, the event is intended to support international visibility, fan engagement and economic activity while showcasing the Caribbean as a destination for major sporting events.

Further details on the tournament, including the schedule and participating teams, will be shared in due course.

About NCL GT20 Canada and Partners

NCL GT20 Canada: Canada's professional T20 franchise cricket tournament, bringing together leading international, Canadian and emerging cricket talent. The 2026 edition will be staged in the Caribbean as a special Caribbean edition designed to deepen cricketing ties between Canada and the West Indies, before the tournament returns to Canada in 2027.

Yemen's Vice President at UNGA: Protecting the Sea 'Begins with Ending the Threat of the Militia on Land'

PLC Vice President tells international press the Red Sea crisis cannot be solved at sea alone, and calls for support to the Yemeni state rather than a war fought on its behalf

NEW YORK, Sept. 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Vice President of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, H.E. Abdullah Al-Alimi Bawazir, told an on-the-record roundtable of U.S. and international journalists on Wednesday, September 23, that the threat to shipping in the Bab al-Mandab began on Yemeni soil and can only be ended there. He urged the international community to support the Yemeni state in restoring its authority.

Speaking on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly, the Vice President said the crisis in Yemen has long been viewed from only two standpoints, humanitarian and civil war. Both are critical, he said, but neither is sufficient, because Yemen is part of the security of the Red Sea, of global energy supply and of the stability of the region and the world.

"The battle of Bab al-Mandab — it did not really start from the west coast," the Vice President said. "It actually started the day Sanaa fell into the hands of the militias. And the security of Bab al-Mandab is very much connected to the security of Yemeni territory."

He recalled that the Yemeni government came to the General Assembly in 2015 to warn that a Houthi takeover, backed by Iran, would not remain within Yemen's borders. "Today, this particular scenario is no longer hypothetical," he said. "An armed group, outside the context of the state, is able to impose its own conditions on the security of the international trade path."

The Vice President cautioned against the idea that the Red Sea can be secured from the sea alone. "We could actually protect the ship alone today, but we could not really protect the same ship tomorrow. So protecting the sea actually begins with ending the threat of the militia on land," he said. "From our standpoint, the security of the strait is connected to a strong state that is able to control its own territory."

He stressed that Yemen is not asking others to fight in its place. "We don't tell the world to come and actually conduct a war on behalf of the Yemenis. We say: come in and support the Yemeni state so that it can actually regain its authority," he said. "This is not a call for war, and it's not really a call for an endless war, but a call for a strategy that actually ends the war and indeed eliminates its causes."

Addressing the United States, he welcomed U.S. economic and financial measures against the Houthis, including their designation as a terrorist organization, and said American strikes had affected Houthi capabilities. But he added that "a campaign alone does not really achieve victory." "The aerial campaigns are important, but supporting the Yemeni government and forces on the ground is indeed a guarantor against the danger of those militias," he said.

The Vice President cited the reports of the UN Panel of Experts from 2023 through 2025, which confirmed Iranian financial and military support to the Houthis. He pointed to tested missile and drone debris and to intercepted shipments of weapons bound for the group, and said Iran has transferred not only weapons but the knowledge of military manufacturing. "This issue is no longer hypothetical, but rather facts that have been proven on the ground," he said.

On reported Houthi assurances regarding shipping, he warned that "accepting assurances from the militia that exists outside the context of the state is incorrect," because "some parties actually read these signals as the beginning of legitimizing this group."

The Vice President said protecting navigation through the Bab al-Mandab is a shared responsibility of Yemen, the region and the world, and that "the Yemeni people are actually capable and determined to go through with their confrontation of the Houthis."

He closed by looking beyond the conflict. "Stability of Yemen is indeed an investment in the security of the region [and] of the world," he said. "We seek peace for our country." Noting Yemen's young population, he added: "We aspire to build a new Yemen that is secure and stable, that would actually contribute in the security and stability of the region."

The roundtable was opened by H.E. Ambassador Jamila Rajaa, who said Yemen has too often been missing from the rooms where resolutions on Yemen are made, and that the meeting was an opportunity for Yemen's voice to be heard.
