ProChile to Showcase Chile's Food and Beverage Excellence to New York Media and Industry Professionals

A celebration of Chilean wine, pisco, seafood and culinary culture, highlighting the country's distinctive flavors, traditions and rich cultural heritage.

NEW YORK, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- ProChile, Chile's export promotion agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will showcase the country's food and beverage offering in New York City on October 20 through two invitation-only experiences for media, influencers and industry professionals. A curated Chilean lunch and a wine and pisco masterclass will highlight the quality, diversity and versatility of Chilean products available in the U.S. market, alongside new offerings.

The lunch will feature a menu by Ignacia Valdés, Executive Chef of Tokyo Record Bar, whose experience includes working in Michelin-starred kitchens in Paris and New York. Inspired by her Chilean roots, Valdés will highlight ingredients including caviar, cochayuyo, merkén, salmon, mussels and lúcuma, introducing guests to Chile's distinctive flavors and culinary traditions.

Jonathan Charnay, a Chilean sommelier and partner at Nuyores who previously served as Beverage Director at three-Michelin-starred Masa, will present a selection of Chilean wines. Andrea Martínez Sandoval, a Chilean sommelier and wine buyer at Astoria Wines & Spirits and Underground Wines & Spirits, will introduce Chilean pisco, exploring its origins, styles and production traditions. Both will lead the afternoon masterclass, offering a deeper look at the diversity and distinctive character of these categories.

"At ProChile, we are committed to strengthening the presence of Chilean products in the U.S. by connecting their quality, distinctive origins, and stories with the people shaping consumer preferences and industry trends. Experiences like this allow us to showcase the diversity of Chile's food and beverage offerings, share the stories behind them, and foster meaningful relationships between Chilean producers and key players in the U.S. market," said Andrea Sapag, Chile's Trade Commissioner in New York.

Chilean Wine: Diversity, Quality and Sustainability

Chile's wine regions span more than 1,500 kilometers, from high-altitude vineyards to coastal sites, offering a diverse range of styles. Approximately 350 wineries export to 140 markets worldwide, with portfolios spanning premium labels, small-production wines, and organic, biodynamic and natural selections.

Sustainability is a key differentiator, with 92 wineries certified under Chile's National Code of Sustainability, representing 80% of bottled wine exports. The program will also spotlight the Itata Valley, where more than four centuries of viticultural heritage and varieties such as País, Cinsault and Carignan are inspiring a new generation of producers.

Chilean Pisco: Heritage and International Potential

Produced primarily in the Atacama and Coquimbo regions, Chilean pisco holds the oldest Denomination of Origin in the Americas. Its clear and aged expressions offer versatility for sipping and cocktails, creating opportunities across bars, restaurants and retail.

In 2025, exports reached US$3.9 million, up 27.6% year over year, with shipments to 40 markets and more than 110 international buyers. This growth highlights the spirit's expanding international reach and potential in the U.S. market.

Chilean Seafood: Quality from the Pacific

Chile's Pacific coastline supports a diverse seafood portfolio, including salmon, mussels, Southern Hake, jack mackerel and farmed sturgeon caviar. The range of products and formats serves both retail and foodservice, supported by food safety and sustainability standards.

In 2025, Chilean seafood exports totaled US$9.186 billion, with the United States accounting for US$2.918 billion, or 31.7% of shipments, making it Chile's leading seafood export destination. This established U.S. market presence underscores the importance of Chilean seafood to the country's export portfolio.

Alabama Power completes restoration following Hurricane Isaias
Image File
Original HTML

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Alabama Power has completed restoration efforts following Hurricane Isaias, which brought widespread impacts across the company's service territory and caused more than 400,000 customer outages.

Thanks to extensive preparation before the storm and a coordinated response afterward, crews safely restored service to customers throughout Alabama while addressing significant damage in some of the hardest-hit areas of the state.

"Storm restoration at this scale is truly a team effort," said Scott Moore, Alabama Power senior vice president of Power Delivery. "From the predictive analytics and planning that took place before the storm, to the coordination of crews, equipment and materials during restoration, every part of the organization played a role. We were grateful for the support of mutual assistance crews from across the country, including our sister companies Mississippi Power and Georgia Power. Just as important was the tremendous coordination behind the scenes by Alabama Power employees who worked around the clock to support this restoration effort and help get customers' lights back on."

Throughout restoration, crews worked diligently to repair damage caused by strong winds, fallen trees and flooding. While much of the electric system remained resilient due to continued investments in grid resiliency, technology and infrastructure, some areas required rebuilding efforts.

Despite the broad geographic footprint of the storm, crews restored power to approximately 95% of affected customers within roughly 36 hours of beginning restoration efforts, with restoration substantially complete for most customers by the night of Monday, October 12.

The most severe damage occurred in Escambia and Monroe counties, where crews rebuilt portions of the electric system by replacing broken poles, repairing damaged equipment and reconstructing spans of wire in locations that were difficult to access.

"We know the days following Hurricane Isaias were difficult for many families across this area," said Kaleb Fain, an Alabama Power lineman who lives and works in Brewton, one of the areas hit hardest by Hurricane Isaias. "With support from additional crews from across the country, we did everything we could to restore service as safely and quickly as possible to get these communities back on their feet."

Like many customers in the area, Fain experienced Hurricane Isaias firsthand. He sustained significant storm damage at his own home and had to cut his way through fallen trees blocking his property before reporting to work and helping restore power to others.

Using technology to prepare and respond

Preparation efforts began days before Hurricane Isaias reached Alabama. As the storm approached the state's coast, Alabama Power used outage prediction technology to determine what areas could see the most impacts, how many additional resources would be needed and where crews, equipment and materials should be staged to respond safely and efficiently.

Alabama Power also uses outage prevention technology to automatically route power around a fault in a line to keep customers from experiencing a prolonged outage. If you noticed a blink in your service for a few seconds, that was likely Alabama Power's outage prevention technology at work. During Hurricane Isaias, Alabama Power's outage prevention technology helped keep more than 69,000 customers from experiencing extended outages, avoiding more than 11 million minutes of service interruption.

A coordinated, company-wide effort

Approximately 84% of Alabama Power's service territory experienced tropical-storm-force wind gusts during Isaias causing trees to fall and damaging power lines, so restoring power required a company-wide effort.

From Alabama Power's Storm Center team, control center personnel and engineers to field crews – including lineworkers, damage assessors and logistics teams – the company worked together to support customers and communities.

In addition to restoration efforts in the field, Alabama Power's Customer Operations team supported more than 4.1 million customer interactions, helping deliver timely outage information, restoration updates and support across the state.

Alabama Power also had more than 7,400 additional resources from 28 states supporting restoration efforts. This collaboration showcased the strength of Alabama Power's mutual assistance relationships, with utility crews from across the country working alongside local employees to restore service safely and efficiently.

In HelloNation, Construction Specialist Mark McManus Examines Home Restoration Costs From Smoke Remediation to Structural Repairs

A New Article Breaks Down the Key Factors That Shape Home Restoration Cost, Covering Fire, Water, and Storm Damage Scenarios.

MORRISTOWN, N.J., Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- What determines how much a home restoration project will actually cost? A HelloNation article addresses that question by examining the variables that most directly affect home restoration cost, covering fire damage, water damage, and storm damage scenarios and explaining how each type of event leads to a different and often complex set of repairs.

The article identifies the extent of the damage as the most important variable in any restoration estimate. A small kitchen fire with localized smoke and soot is a fundamentally different project than one that reaches structural framing, electrical systems, and multiple rooms. A burst pipe affecting a single bathroom carries a very different home restoration cost than floodwater that has spread through a basement and several ground-floor spaces. The article draws on insights from Mark McManus, a Construction Specialist at M&M Construction in Morristown, whose practical perspective anchors the guidance provided throughout.

Fire damage restoration typically moves through several distinct phases. Emergency stabilization and debris removal come first, followed by comprehensive smoke and soot remediation involving specialized cleaning treatments applied to walls, ceilings, ductwork, and personal property throughout the affected area. Odor neutralization is also part of fire restoration and requires more than standard surface-level cleaning to address adequately. Once affected areas have been treated and assessed, structural repairs begin, which may include replacing compromised framing, roofing materials, electrical systems, and drywall throughout the damaged portions of the home. The article notes that fire damage restoration typically requires remediation specialists, licensed electricians, and structural carpenters working in careful sequence.

Water damage restoration follows a different but equally involved process. After a flooding event, pipe failure, or roof leak allows water into a structure, the first priority is extraction and drying using industrial-grade equipment. The article explains that time is a critical factor because the longer materials stay saturated, the greater the risk of mold growth spreading well beyond the original affected zone. Once drying is confirmed, affected drywall, insulation, flooring, and cabinetry are evaluated and either cleaned or replaced based on the level of moisture each material sustained. Construction Specialists working in water damage recovery understand that the drying phase cannot be shortened without creating additional problems.

Storm damage restoration presents its own range of conditions and costs. High winds can strip roofing materials, damage siding, break windows, and allow water intrusion before a storm has fully passed. The article explains that many storm restoration projects require coordinating multiple contractors, including roofing specialists, siding crews, and general contractors addressing interior repairs. The scope and home restoration cost depend heavily on the severity of the event and how the structure held up during it.

Insurance plays a significant role in most restoration projects. The article notes that homeowners who document damage thoroughly with photographs, written records, and contractor assessments tend to navigate the claims process more efficiently. Some restoration contractors work directly with insurance adjusters to help ensure that all covered work is captured in the final claim before any scope is finalized.

Planned renovation projects, including kitchen and bathroom upgrades, follow a similar pricing framework. The article explains that permitting and code compliance requirements affect both restoration and renovation work, particularly when projects touch electrical, plumbing, or structural systems. Material prices and regional labor rates add further variability, and a detailed written estimate that separates labor, materials, and permitting gives homeowners the clearest picture of what a project will require.

Understanding Home Restoration Costs, From Smoke Remediation to Structural Repairs features insights from Mark McManus, Construction Specialist of Morristown, New Jersey, in HelloNation.

National Safety Council Kicks Off 20th Teen Driver Safety Week with Resources for Parents, Caregivers and Communities
Image File
Original HTML

Data shows motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of preventable death for teens

WASHINGTON, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Ahead of the 20th annual National Teen Driver Safety Week (Oct. 18-24), the National Safety Council is encouraging parents, caregivers and community organizations to help young drivers put safety first on the road. Through the DriveitHOME program, in partnership with General Motors, NSC provides free tools to begin instilling safe habits in our youngest roadway users. Responsible driving is especially vital for early drivers, as car crashes remain the leading cause of preventable death for teens in the U.S. In 2024, 5,247 people died in crashes involving drivers ages 15-20, a 6.5% decrease from the prior year.

Available in English and Spanish, DriveitHOME's free resources help educate young drivers, track their progress and set them on course for a future of safe driving:

- Virtual training and lessons

- DriveitHOME provides parents and caregivers with comprehensive training and lesson plans for teen roadway safety, including the DriveitHOME Virtual Parent Training, which details key safety topics and local Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) requirements, and the weekly Pointers for Parents lessons

- The New Driver Deal

- A customizable parent-teen agreement that establishes clear expectations for teen drivers, addressing curfews, passenger limits, vehicle responsibilities and more

- DriveitHOME™App

- Track your teen's practice hours and access lessons, the New Driver Deal and other DriveitHOME resources through the free app, available on the App Store and Google Play

- Community resources

- Promote teen driver safety in schools, workplaces and communities through videos, posters, infographics and more

"Getting a driver's license is an exciting milestone, but learning to drive safely takes more than passing a test," said Debra Sanchez, executive vice president of Safety Impact & External Affairs at NSC. "Parents and caregivers have an enormous influence on how teens behave behind the wheel. This means setting clear expectations, modeling safe behavior and continuing the conversation long after the teen receives their license. The habits we help young drivers build today can prevent tragedies and save lives for years to come."

According to a survey commissioned by NSC in 2025, 82% of parents feel confident in teaching their teen to drive safely, but only 55% consider themselves knowledgeable about best practices. DriveitHOME provides resources not just to educate teens, but to ensure parents are sufficiently informed themselves to set an example for young drivers.

In HelloNation, Insurance Expert Courtney Paat Explains Term vs Whole Life Insurance: A Florida Family Guide

The article outlines key differences between term and whole life insurance to help families make informed long term decisions.

PLANT CITY, Fla., Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- How can Florida families decide between term and whole life insurance when planning for their financial future? HelloNation has published the piece and provides the answer in a HelloNation article that presents Term vs Whole Life Insurance: A Florida Family Guide in clear, practical language.

The HelloNation article explains that life insurance plays an important role in protecting loved ones from financial hardship. For families with dependents, coverage can help replace lost income, pay off debts, and support long term goals. Understanding the difference between term and whole life insurance is a key part of choosing the right policy.

Term life insurance provides coverage for a specific period, often 10, 20, or 30 years. The article notes that term policies generally offer lower premiums compared to permanent options. This can make term coverage appealing for families seeking affordable protection during their highest earning and child raising years.

Whole life insurance, by contrast, provides lifetime coverage as long as premiums are paid. The article describes how whole life policies typically include a cash value component that grows over time. This feature can be used for loans or withdrawals under certain conditions, although it often comes with higher premium costs.

In Term vs Whole Life Insurance: A Florida Family Guide, the article outlines how financial goals influence the decision. Families focused on income replacement during working years may find term coverage aligns with their needs. Those seeking long term estate planning or wealth transfer strategies may consider whole life policies.

Budget considerations also play a central role. The HelloNation article explains that term policies may allow families to secure higher coverage amounts at a lower monthly cost. Whole life policies, while more expensive, provide permanent protection and a savings element that some households value.

The article emphasizes the importance of reviewing outstanding debts, future education expenses, and overall financial plans. Mortgages, car loans, and childcare costs can all factor into how much life insurance is appropriate. Evaluating these obligations helps families choose coverage that matches real world responsibilities.

Policy flexibility is another factor discussed. Some term policies offer conversion options, allowing policyholders to transition to permanent coverage later. The article notes that understanding these features can add value and adaptability over time.

Regular policy reviews are encouraged as circumstances change. Marriage, the birth of a child, career shifts, or home purchases can all affect life insurance needs. The article explains that revisiting coverage ensures that policies remain aligned with a family's current situation rather than outdated assumptions.

Throughout the piece, Insurance Expert Courtney Paat provides professional context that supports the educational focus of the article. Insurance Expert Courtney Paat's insights help clarify how Term vs Whole Life Insurance: A Florida Family Guide applies to everyday financial planning decisions.

The article concludes that there is no one size fits all answer. By comparing policy structures, evaluating costs, and considering long term goals, families can select coverage that supports stability and peace of mind.

Term vs Whole Life Insurance: A Florida Family Guide features insights from Courtney Paat, Insurance Expert of Plant City, Florida, in HelloNation.

Cedro Participações Secures Approval for the Issuance of the Environmental License for Porto do Meio in Itaguaí, Rio de Janeiro

Iron ore terminal with an estimated investment of R$ 3.6 billion is expected to generate up to 3,000 jobs at the peak of construction.

BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Cedro Participações received approval on Tuesday (October 13) from the State Environmental Control Commission (CECA) for the issuance of the Integrated Environmental License (LAI) for the development of Porto do Meio, an iron ore terminal that the company will build at the Port of Itaguaí, in the Greater Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area.

The decision represents the project's most significant milestone to date. With the successful completion of the environmental licensing process—a widely recognized rigorous and decisive stage for port and infrastructure projects in Brazil—Cedro has obtained confirmation of the terminal's environmental feasibility and fulfilled the necessary conditions to advance to the next phases of the project. This achievement reinforces the company's commitment to developing projects that comply with the most stringent environmental and regulatory standards.

In this initial phase, the license covers the handling of a volume of less than 15 million tonnes per year.

In December 2024, Cedro won the federal auction for the area identified as ITG02 and signed a lease agreement for a 35-year term, renewable for an additional equal period.

"Porto do Meio is not just a project for the next three or five years, but a strategic transformation vector for the coming decades that will significantly increase the competitiveness of the mineral industry in Brazil," states Lucas Kallas, Chairman of Cedro International, part of Cedro Participações.

"This project reflects our vision for the coming years in Brazil's port and mining sectors. We have targets to expand our iron ore production, and the terminal is essential to our growth plan through the beginning of the next decade, giving Cedro independence in iron ore exports," adds José Carlos Martins, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cedro Participações.

Located between Vale's and CSN's terminals in Itaguaí—a position that inspired its name—Porto do Meio will occupy an area of approximately 250,000 square meters, including a stockyard and a berthing facility for vessels requiring water depths of up to 20 meters. The terminal will be connected to the MRS Logística rail network, which links the Iron Quadrangle in Minas Gerais to the coast of Rio de Janeiro state, creating a new corridor for iron ore transportation.

The construction works are expected to take three years and will include civil engineering, dredging, the supply and installation of port equipment, and electromechanical assembly. At the peak of construction, the project is expected to generate approximately 3,000 direct and indirect jobs. Once operational, the terminal will directly employ 256 people and is estimated to generate R$ 1.2 billion in municipal tax revenue.

Designed to accommodate Cedro's production, the terminal will also be open to third parties. As a result, mid-sized mining companies that currently rely on terminals operated by large groups or trading companies to export through Itaguaí will gain direct access to international markets. This means fewer intermediaries, long-term contracts, and greater predictability, as well as competitive logistics costs thanks to the terminal's proximity to the Iron Quadrangle and its rail connections.

About Cedro

Founded in 2018, Cedro Participações is a Brazilian holding company headquartered in Minas Gerais, with operations in iron ore mining, logistics infrastructure, and agribusiness. The company is implementing an investment plan aimed at reaching an annual production capacity of 20 million tonnes of iron ore by 2032, with a focus on high-grade pellet feed.
