Gift of 29,000 doses will help protect hundreds of Kansas City's shelter dogs from heartworm disease

WESTLAKE, Texas, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Virbac, a global animal health company, has donated more than 29,000 doses of IVERHART MAX® Chews (ivermectin/pyrantel pamoate/praziquantel) parasite prevention products to KC Pet Project, the municipal animal shelter for Kansas City, Missouri, to help protect its dogs against heartworm disease and intestinal parasites.

KC Pet Project cares for more than 16,000 pets each year, including 8,263 dogs taken in over the past 12 months, each of which receives preventive care at intake. Virbac's donation of IVERHART® MAX Chews will help support that standard of care for every dog that comes through the shelter's doors.

"Kansas City is a heartworm hot spot, making consistent prevention essential to protecting the dogs we serve," said Dr. Heather Kennedy, chief veterinary officer, KC Pet Project. "Virbac's generous donation will help us provide heartworm prevention while also treating tapeworms – another important benefit for shelter dogs."

Dr. Kennedy said the shelter is also currently treating about 300 dogs diagnosed with heartworm while in its care.

"We provide adopters of heartworm-positive dogs with a full year of medication at no cost, and Virbac's donation will help us continue that commitment," said Dr. Kennedy. "We are incredibly grateful for their investment in the long-term health of these dogs."

The donation also supports KC Pet Project's community outreach program, which provides supplies to Kansas City pet owners in need.

"Every animal deserves a healthy start, whether it's in a home or waiting to find one. Helping KC Pet Project protect its shelter dogs from a preventable disease is exactly the kind of impact we want our work to have," said Gio Abruzzini, CEO, Virbac North America.

Pacsun Celebrated Its Continued Partnership with an Exclusive First Look at the New Rare DNM Edit, Building on More Than $2 Million in Support for Youth Mental Health

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Pacsun, the purpose-driven specialty fashion retailer rooted in youth culture, celebrated its continued partnership with Selena Gomez's Rare Impact Fund as an official sponsor of the fourth annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit: A Night of Radiance & Reflection. Held October 14 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, the evening brought together leaders across entertainment, fashion, business, and philanthropy in support of youth mental health. The sponsorship marked Pacsun's third year supporting the annual Benefit, continuing a partnership that has generated more than $2 million in support of the Rare Impact Fund since 2024.

As part of the evening, Pacsun hosted a dedicated gifting experience, giving attendees an exclusive first look at its newest Rare DNM Edit ahead of the October 29 launch. Guests had the opportunity to select from a curated assortment of pieces from the upcoming holiday collection, offering an early preview of the latest collaboration. The experience brought together fashion, self-expression, and a shared commitment to expanding access to youth mental health resources.

The evening began with a VIP reception featuring an opportunity for guests to connect with Selena Gomez, followed by a program celebrating the Rare Impact Fund's mission to mobilize $100 million for organizations expanding access to youth mental health services and education globally. Emceed by Sean Hayes, the event featured remarks from Gomez and Rare Impact Fund President Elyse Cohen, with performances by Bella Kay and Leon Bridges. During the evening, Gomez also introduced the inaugural Katherine Short Legacy Award created in memory of Martin Short's Daughter, Katherine Short, to honor those making a lasting commitment to mental health and their communities. The first award was presented to La Familia Counseling Center in recognition of more than five decades of service and community impact. Guests also participated in live silent auctions and an evening of giving in support of the Rare Impact Fund, helping raise more than $2 million. The night continued with music, a DJ and interactive experiences throughout the Hollywood Palladium.

The preview marked a full-circle moment for Pacsun and the Rare Impact Fund. The first Rare DNM Edit was introduced at the 2024 Benefit, where guests received an exclusive early look at the inaugural collection. Since then, the collaboration has continued to evolve through new collections and initiatives that connect Pacsun's community with the Rare Impact Fund's mission.

The partnership also reflects the priorities of the young people Pacsun serves. According to Pacsun's 2026 Youth Report, conducted in partnership with GlobalData and surveying more than 6,000 young people ages 11–24 across the United States, 59% identified being mentally healthy as a life goal they hope to achieve by age 35. The findings underscore the importance of mental wellbeing to younger generations and reinforce Pacsun's continued commitment to supporting meaningful conversations and resources around youth mental health.

"Our Youth Report reinforces something we've heard directly from young people for years: mental wellbeing is a priority, and they want the brands they support to stand for something meaningful," said Brieane Olson, CEO of Pacsun. "That's what makes our partnership with the Rare Impact Fund so important. We've been able to turn a shared belief in self-expression and community into real support for youth mental health. Returning to the Benefit, where Rare DNM Edit first debuted, and celebrating more than $2 million in support shows what's possible when fashion and purpose come together."

"Young people are already expressing who they are through fashion, so there's a real opportunity to meet them there and make conversations about mental health feel like a natural part of everyday life," said Elyse Cohen, President of the Rare Impact Fund and Chief Impact Officer at Rare Beauty. "That's what has made our partnership with Pacsun so meaningful. Through Rare DNM Edit and their continued support of the Rare Impact Fund, we're finding new ways to reach young people while helping expand access to the mental health resources and support they deserve. We're grateful to Pacsun for continuing to invest in this work and for showing what's possible when brands use their platforms to support young people in meaningful ways."

The newest Rare DNM Edit launches October 29 at select Pacsun stores and online. Continuing its commitment to the Rare Impact Fund, Pacsun will donate 10% of sales from each Rare DNM Edit style purchased to the Fund, up to a maximum donation of $300,000. The following states are excluded from this promotion: Massachusetts, Alabama, Illinois, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Hawaii.

In the news release, Historic milestone: America's next historically Black medical school earns preliminary accreditation, issued 14-Oct-2026 by Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine over PR Newswire, we are advised by the company that changes have been made. The complete, corrected release follows, with additional details at the end:

Historic milestone: America's next historically Black medical school earns preliminary accreditation

Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine, the only HBCU college of medicine in the Gulf South, will start recruiting its inaugural class

NEW ORLEANS, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- A pioneering chapter in medical education begins today for the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine, which has received preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the accrediting body for U.S. programs granting medical doctorate degrees. With this milestone, the College of Medicine will begin recruiting students in coming weeks for its inaugural class starting in 2027, advancing the vision for America's next historically Black college of medicine.

The only HBCU college of medicine in the Gulf South, the College of Medicine brings together two trusted New Orleans institutions: Xavier University of Louisiana and Ochsner Health. It builds on decades of collaboration in education, research, and healthcare, reflected in initiatives such as the Ochsner-Xavier Institute for Health Equity and Research, Xavier's Physician Assistant Program, and its Genetic Counseling Program. Xavier contributes a century-long legacy of excellence in STEM education, was named a top HBCU by Forbes and is a leading institution in sending African American students on to medical school. Ochsner is a leading academic health system that brings more than 80 years of experience in caring for the communities it serves, with more than 60 years of training residents and fellows and 17 years of excellence in medical student education. Ochsner was named no. 1 hospital in Louisiana by U.S. News and World Report for 15 consecutive years. Together, Xavier and Ochsner have created a model that connects rigorous academic preparation with real-world training and a shared commitment to improving health outcomes for all.

"This is a historic moment for Xavier University of Louisiana, for New Orleans and for the future of medicine in this nation," said Reynold Verret, Ph.D., president of Xavier University of Louisiana. "For a century, Xavier has demonstrated what is possible when academic excellence is joined with a profound commitment to human dignity and service. The Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine is a bold extension of that legacy. We are not simply opening the doors of a new medical school; we are expanding who will have the opportunity to become a physician, strengthening the communities those physicians will serve and helping to shape the future of healthcare for generations to come. Preliminary accreditation brings us to a moment envisioned through years of work, partnership and resolve, and it affirms Xavier's enduring belief that education can transform not only individual lives, but the health and well-being of our nation."

Addressing national physician workforce challenges

The opening of the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine brings an HBCU medical school to a region facing significant healthcare workforce challenges. The National Health Resources and Services Administration projects the United States could face a shortage of more than 141,000 physicians by 2038.

Louisiana is among the states most affected, with 60 of Louisiana's 64 parishes federally designated as Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs). Graduates from HBCU medical schools, which train nearly 70% of the nation's Black physicians, are more likely to serve communities with the greatest healthcare needs.

Preliminary accreditation follows years of planning and collaboration. The College of Medicine was formed through a partnership between Xavier and Ochsner in 2024, earned candidate status in October 2025 and hosted an LCME survey visit in June 2026. Following its review, the LCME determined the College of Medicine had met the requirements for preliminary accreditation, allowing it to start recruiting students for its inaugural class in summer 2027. Applications will be available through the American Medical College Application Service® (AMCAS®) in the coming weeks.

"Together, we have created a transformational college of medicine where future physician leaders will be prepared to pursue excellence with purpose, embrace innovation, and respond to the evolving needs of patients and our communities," said Leonardo Seoane, M.D., FACP, president and founding dean of the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine. "This milestone builds on Xavier University of Louisiana's incredible legacy of preparing leaders who serve and a history of academic and clinical excellence at Ochsner Health. By bringing together the strengths of two mission-driven institutions, we are creating opportunities for future physicians to make a lasting difference across Louisiana and beyond."

Investing in New Orleans and the Gulf South

Students will be taught the science and practice of medicine while gaining a deep understanding of health in the context of a person's life and community. Through interdisciplinary learning, compassionate patient care, and direct experience with experienced clinical teams, they will develop the practical skills, leadership abilities, and understanding needed to serve communities in New Orleans, the Gulf South, and beyond.

"Our partnership with Xavier University of Louisiana is grounded in a shared belief that education, opportunity, and service can transform lives and provide our communities stellar healthcare for generations to come," said Pete November, president and CEO of Ochsner Health. "Today, we celebrate far more than the opening of a college of medicine. Together, we are investing in our communities to drive economic development and create a model of excellence that translates world-class medical education into better health outcomes, greater opportunity, and a lasting legacy of impact for the people and communities we serve."

Located in New Orleans' growing BioDistrict, the College of Medicine is expected to generate significant economic impact locally and statewide. By 2040, its operations are projected to contribute $152.5 million in economic impact across Louisiana, including $122 million in New Orleans, while supporting more than 1,185 jobs statewide. Physicians trained by the College are projected to contribute an additional $2.9 billion to the U.S. economy by 2040.

About the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine

The Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine was formed in 2024 through a partnership between Xavier University of Louisiana, one of the nation's top HBCUs, and Ochsner Health, a leading academic medical center in the Gulf South. The College of Medicine combines Xavier's academic excellence and century-long legacy in STEM and health sciences with a demonstrated commitment by Ochsner to patient care, research and physician training. Located in the New Orleans BioDistrict, the College of Medicine will prepare physician leaders through rigorous education, real-world training and a commitment to improving health outcomes for all. Born to Be Open: RoboParty Launches RP1, a Full-Stack Open-Source Humanoid

Born to Be Open: RoboParty Launches RP1, a Full-Stack Open-Source Humanoid

SHANGHAI, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- RoboParty today officially launches RP1 (ROBOTO 01), a high-performance, full-stack open-source humanoid robot designed for advanced robotics research and embodied AI development. With open access to both hardware and software, RP1 enables researchers to customize the system, integrate their own algorithms, and test new approaches on real hardware.

As AI increasingly moves into the physical world, humanoid robots are becoming a key platform for the next generation of embodied intelligence. But if their core technologies remain hidden inside black boxes, will innovation be defined only by the few who have access to the underlying systems?

The future of embodied AI should not be built on technological black boxes. Every researcher and developer should have the opportunity to participate.

AI models continue to advance, yet the physical systems that bring their capabilities into the real world still face significant limitations.

For robotics researchers, closed hardware and low-level control systems restrict experimental flexibility and system innovation. For embodied AI developers, limited visibility into a robot's internal behavior makes it difficult to pinpoint problems across model policies, control systems and hardware execution.

RP1 addresses these limitations by opening access to its robot body design and technical resources for RoboParty's in-house-developed ROMOMO joint actuator modules, alongside technical documentation and research materials. Together, these resources establish an open development ecosystem encompassing mechanical structures, actuators, motion control, simulation environments, software development kits (SDKs) and training tools.

Full-Stack Open Source Across Hardware and Software

Open-source robotics should extend beyond software interfaces. To advance humanoid robotics research, developers need to understand, modify and validate the physical systems that underpin intelligent behavior.

RP1 was built around this principle.

At the hardware level, RP1 integrates RoboParty's in-house-developed ROMOMO joint actuator modules with an optimized mechanical structure and motion-control architecture. Its low-level drivers and control algorithms are also fully open source, with the software stack extending to firmware, development tools, simulation resources and robot learning frameworks. Access to hardware designs and underlying technologies allows researchers to explore the relationships among mechanical design, joint response, control behavior and learning policies.

Researchers can go beyond sending commands to a fixed robot platform. They can analyze and modify the underlying systems that determine how the robot executes movement.

When a robot fails to perform an intended action accurately, the cause may lie in the model, control policy, actuator response or mechanical structure. An open development ecosystem enables researchers to trace problems across these layers and optimize them together, with access to systems they can inspect and modify.

True open source extends beyond code to the robot itself, putting full control of the system in developers' hands.

Designed to Adapt to Research Needs

The standard RP1 stands approximately 1.3 meters tall and features 24 actuated degrees of freedom (DoF), supporting research into gait, balance control and sim-to-real transfer. The Pro version features 30 actuated DoF, including a 2-DoF neck and two 7-DoF arms, supporting research into end-to-end policies, human-robot interaction and data collection for embodied AI. These DoF counts exclude the dexterous hands.

RP1's modular structure and open control interfaces allow research teams to adapt the platform to their experimental needs. Teams can begin with bipedal locomotion research, then configure additional hardware and software for perception, data collection or manipulation experiments.

Interchangeable head modules and wrist end effectors support multiple configurations, including RoboParty's in-house-developed RP Hand dexterous hand. These interfaces allow teams to conduct a range of experiments on the same robot platform.

Open hardware and software also support controlled experiments. Researchers can compare different control methods on identical hardware or hold the control method constant while examining how hardware configuration changes affect experimental results. Recording hardware versions, software configurations and test conditions helps teams trace the causes of differences in results.

Enabling Developers to Focus on Embodied AI Models

RP1 already supports foundational motor capabilities, including continuous walking, recovery from external disturbances, getting back up after a fall and human motion tracking. These capabilities provide an established foundation for embodied AI model development, reducing the need for teams to repeatedly develop low-level motor skills and allowing them to focus on higher-level intelligent policies and complex tasks.

For Whole Body Intelligence development, RP1 provides a robot body capable of dynamic motion, whole-body control (WBC), and supporting tools for virtual reality (VR) teleoperation, data collection and playback, and motion retargeting. It also provides integrated development workflows for WBC-based whole-body motion execution, teleoperation using VR or motion-capture devices, and RP Hand control.

WBC coordinates the arms, torso and legs to support dynamic motion tracking and posture adjustment, providing a stable motion-execution foundation for tasks that combine locomotion and manipulation. Integrated with RoboParty's in-house-developed PartyOS embodied AI system, the UFO unsupervised reinforcement learning framework and MimicLite motion imitation technology, RP1 supports motor skill learning, control policy development and higher-level applications.

RP1 also provides an open toolchain spanning data collection, training in simulation, deployment on physical robots and experimental validation. Researchers can deploy models on the robot, analyze discrepancies between model outputs and actual physical responses, and independently adjust control policies and hardware configurations. This creates a continuous development loop from algorithm development to real-world execution, feedback and refinement.

To meet embodied AI development requirements for experimental stability and reproducibility, RP1 incorporates systematic improvements across its mechanical structure, core actuators and manufacturing processes. RoboParty's in-house-developed ROMOMO actuators, structural optimization and manufacturing quality management are designed to improve consistency in physical response, overall reliability and maintainability. These measures help minimize the influence of hardware variation on experimental results and provide a stable physical platform for repeated model training and validation over extended periods.

Building a Shared Foundation for Global Innovation

RoboParty launched the RPO open-source project in January 2026, releasing mechanical and electrical design resources, along with training and deployment materials. The project has garnered more than 2,600 GitHub stars, enabling developers to reproduce and extend the robot design using publicly available resources.

RP1 continues this open-source approach, bringing together ROMOMO joint actuator modules, research from RoboParty Lab and the ongoing development of PartyOS to expand the technology foundation for robotics research and embodied AI model development.

"We believe the future of embodied AI should not be defined by just a handful of closed systems," said Yi Huang, founder of RoboParty. "With RP1, we want to open up more than code. We want to give researchers the opportunity to truly understand, modify and continuously advance robotic capabilities. When more teams can innovate on a shared technical foundation, the entire industry can move further forward."

RoboParty's vision is to make the future of embodied AI open to everyone ready to explore it.

Majority of Small Business Owners Rely on Their Businesses to Fund Their Future, New Survey Finds

Research reveals 57% are highly reliant on their business to reach their next stage of life, despite significant gaps in exit planning and valuation

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- For many U.S. small business owners, their financial future depends heavily on the businesses they've built, yet new research reveals significant gaps in the planning and preparation needed to support a successful exit.

According to a new national survey conducted by Researchscape International on behalf of Exit Factor™, a business value enhancement and exit planning company, 57% of small business owners say they are very or completely reliant on their business, either through selling it or continuing to draw income from it, to reach their next stage of life. Nearly two-thirds (64%) also report having at least half of their personal net worth tied up in their business.

Despite that financial dependence, many owners have yet to take concrete steps to prepare for an eventual exit. While 52% say they are very or completely confident they could successfully exit their business if they needed to start the process tomorrow, one-third (33%) have taken no steps toward exit planning, only 23% have formally valued their business as part of their exit preparation, and just 18% have established a written timeline or target exit date.

The findings are part of Exit Factor's national survey of 1,104 U.S. small business owners, examining how entrepreneurs approach business value, exit planning, succession and life after ownership.

"Business owners spend years, often decades, building something valuable, but many don't give the same attention to how they'll eventually step away from it," said Peter Giese, president of Exit Factor. "Exit planning isn't about deciding that you're ready to sell tomorrow. It's about understanding what your business is worth today, identifying the factors that could increase or limit that value, and creating options for yourself long before you need them."

Financial Dependence Outpaces Exit Preparation

Despite the significant role their businesses play in their financial futures, many owners lack a clear understanding of what their companies are worth or a formal plan for an eventual exit. The survey reveals several gaps between financial reliance, confidence and actual preparation:

- Only 18% have a current professional business valuation they paid for, while 27% rely on their own rough estimate of their business's value.

- 28% have thought about exiting but haven't taken any steps, while another 26% have an informal or partial plan but nothing formal or written.

- 18% haven't thought about exit planning or aren't sure where they stand.

- Just 15% have a formal, written exit plan, while 13% are actively working with a paid exit planning advisor.

The findings underscore the potential risks of relying heavily on a business without fully understanding its value or having a strategy for transitioning ownership, particularly for owners who may depend on a sale or continued business income to support their next stage of life.

"When so much of an owner's financial future is tied to one asset, waiting until you're ready to sell to understand its value can leave very little time to address the issues that affect that value," Giese said. "The earlier owners understand where they stand, the more opportunity they have to strengthen the business and make decisions on their own terms."

For Many Owners, Exit Planning Still Feels Like a Problem for the Future

While financial readiness is a critical component of a successful exit, the survey also highlights the practical and emotional barriers that can prevent owners from planning ahead. Key findings include:

- 47% say it feels too early to think about an exit, while 29% are too busy managing day-to-day operations.

- 25% cite the emotional difficulty of letting go as a barrier to exit planning.

- 44% say uncertainty about who they would be or what they would do without their business has at least somewhat affected their planning.

- 45% say a health issue or scare would prompt them to begin or accelerate exit planning, followed by reaching a specific age or life milestone (35%) and experiencing burnout (32%).

The emotional ties to business ownership extend beyond planning. When asked what they would miss most about stepping away, owners ranked their sense of purpose or daily meaning highest overall, ahead of financial security and income.

"An exit is both a business transition and a personal transition," Giese said. "Owners need time not only to prepare the company, but to think through what they want their next chapter to look like. Starting earlier gives them the ability to build a business that can operate without them while also preparing themselves for whatever comes next."

A Decade of Data from the Marine Stewardship Council Underscores Americans Expect 'Sustainable' To Be the Default

WASHINGTON, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), a global environmental nonprofit focused on wild fisheries sustainability, today released 10 years of consumer insights showing how expectations around sustainability have moved from a niche consideration to a mainstream expectation, especially when it comes to seafood. The report, entitled, "A Decade of Change: Sustainability Now a Mainstream Concern of U.S. Seafood Consumers," underscores that consumers increasingly seek independent verification of environmental claims, and that economic realities continue to shape purchasing decisions.

"I am optimistic about U.S. consumer attitudes to our planet, the food they consume, and the concept of sustainability and preserving our planet for future generations," said Laura McDearis, U.S. Program Director, Marine Stewardship Council. "Ten years of consumer research has made it clear: sustainability is no longer a niche request for U.S. consumers; it's the expectation."

Conducted on behalf of the MSC by GlobeScan, an independent insights and advisory firm, the research tracks how consumers think about seafood, ocean sustainability, ecolabels, and the MSC program. 15,000 U.S. seafood consumers shared their perspectives dating back to 2016. The data shows that U.S. consumer support for sustainability has steadily climbed to match levels traditionally only seen among European consumers.

Report highlights include:

- Americans expect 'sustainable' seafood to be the default. Consumers view sustainability as built-in or integrated to products rather than added-on. The idea that sustainable sourcing is essential for protecting ocean health has become more mainstream.

- Independent verification has become more important. Consumers are increasingly looking for sustainability claims to be independently verified, reinforcing the value of credible third-party certification. Sustainability claims alone are not enough; consumers want evidence and proof.

- Health and sustainability are becoming more connected. Health is becoming more closely connected with perceptions of sustainable seafood, although the shift is gradual.

- Consumers increasingly believe their choices can protect seafood for the future. Consumers are likely to believe that their seafood purchases can make a positive difference by helping ensure healthy fish populations will be available for future generations.

To see all ten trends and read the report, access it at msc.org.

Healthy oceans are essential to life on Earth; according to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, 71% of the Earth is made up of the ocean and 80% of biodiversity is contained in the ocean. When wild fisheries are managed sustainably, they are more resilient to climate change and maintain biodiverse marine ecosystems. Compared with terrestrial animal proteins, wild-caught seafood can provide highly nutritious food without extensive resources.

In the U.S., 90% of fisheries by volume are MSC certified and meet rigorous requirements for environmentally sustainable fishing practices, making the U.S. a leader in sustainable fisheries. A record 789 fisheries are now engaged in the MSC program around the world and certified fisheries have delivered hundreds of improvements in recent years benefiting fish populations, habitats, management, and vulnerable species, supporting overall marine biodiversity and ocean health.

"The global landscape presents so many challenges that compete every day for the headspace of the U.S. consumer," McDearis continued. "And yet, we are making incredible progress. As the public conversation around food continues to evolve - shaped by social, economic, technological, political, and environmental factors globally - seafood's story is not just about what is on the plate; it's about the role our ocean, fisheries, and seafood choices can play in building a more sustainable future for our food systems and our planet overall."

About the Marine Stewardship Council

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is an international nonprofit dedicated to dedicated to healthy oceans and seafood resources for the future. A pioneer in sustainable fishing standards, the MSC program sets environmental criteria to ensure healthy fish stocks, minimal harmful impacts on ocean ecosystems, and to promote effective management. The MSC program includes the MSC Fisheries Standard, the world's most widely used standard for environmentally sustainable wild-caught seafood, the Chain of Custody Standard for accountable supply chains, and the MSC blue fish ecolabel, which helps consumers identify seafood products that are independently verified for their sustainability claims.
