Bruce V. met the Winloot prize team at a local Panera and discovered his prize was much bigger than he imagined

ROSLYN, N.Y., Oct. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- DELAWARE, October 21, 2026 — Bruce V., a northern Delaware resident, arrived at a local Panera on Thursday expecting to collect a $500 prize. He left knowing he had won $300,000.

The Delaware resident had been contacted about a prize he won through the Winloot family of sweepstakes websites. To keep the full amount a surprise, the team told him he had won $500 and arranged to meet him at a local Wilmington restaurant.

Winloot's Chief Marketing Officer, Matt Gately, and Eve Fish, formerly of the Publishers Clearing House Prize Patrol, arrived with a beautiful bouquet of Fall flowers and an oversized presentation check concealed in wrapping.

The team acknowledged that Bruce had been told he won $500, then invited him to unwrap the big check.

As the amount came into view, Bruce discovered the surprise: $300,000.

"Oh my God. Wow," he said.

A Daily Player Who Never Expected a Win Like This

Bruce plays every day and has previously won prizes of $100 and $500. Even with those earlier wins, he never imagined receiving a prize of this size.

After the reveal, Bruce shared that he would love to buy a car and possibly take a cruise with his wife.

For people skeptical that anyone really wins, Bruce's experience offers a personal perspective. His message was simple: playing takes only a few minutes and entering gives you an opportunity to win.

A Personal Delivery Worth Celebrating

A wrapped check, a bouquet of Fall flowers, and an unforgettable surprise made the prize delivery a moment to celebrate as Bruce began imagining what the $300,000 award could mean for him and his wife.

Bruce's prize follows another $300,000 award presented by Winloot in 2023 to Tammy P. of Maryville, Tennessee, who had signed up just hours before the drawing.

The 2027 FrogTape® Paint Project Index Identifies the Next Wave of Home Painting

Original HTML

New research reveals what homeowners are painting now and what's next

AVON, Ohio, Oct. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The next painting project may not be another four walls. From colorful trim to bold built-ins and overlooked spaces, homeowners are finding more ways to use paint to personalize their homes. The 2027 FrogTape® Paint Project Index examines what homeowners have already painted and what they plan to tackle in the next 12 months, revealing how familiar projects are evolving while new ways to bring color and personality into a space gain ground.

The research shows that traditional projects still have staying power. More than half of homeowners (57%) have already created a traditional accent wall, and 49% have painted a ceiling. Looking ahead, the focus shifts beyond the walls: colorful or contrasting trim and doors top the project list at 54%, followed by small spaces (42%), single-wall accent walls (40%) and cabinets or built-ins (37%).

"Homeowners are finding more ways to make a painting project feel personal, and that goes well beyond choosing a color for the walls," said Melanie Canning, Director of Insights for FrogTape®. "People are now considering every element of a room as a design opportunity, with architectural details, ceilings and small, overlooked spaces becoming the next canvas."

Top Painting Projects Planned for 2027

Trim Takes Center Stage

Trim is the only paint project where planned interest (54%) exceeds past adoption (45%), reflecting the appeal of a small change with a high impact. Among homeowners who have painted architectural details, 31% say it refreshes a room's energy without the time or expense of painting all four walls, and 22% say it revives worn, dated trim or plain doors without replacing them. DIYers are doing their homework, too: 36% say trim and architectural details are the project they've researched most.

Small Spaces, Big Statement

Some of the boldest ambitions are in the smallest rooms. Nearly half (42%) plan to transform a small or often-overlooked space, such as a powder room or laundry room, with bold paint in the next year. Among those interested, 60% say bold paint turns a purely functional room into a high-impact design feature, and 55% say color makes everyday tasks like laundry or meal prep more enjoyable. Only 4% of those considering these spaces prefer to keep them neutral.

The Accent Wall Evolves

Focal points are the most established trend in the Index, with 57% of homeowners having created a single-wall accent wall. Yet the data suggests the classic statement wall is no longer the only space people are putting color. Nearly half (49%) have already painted a ceiling, and 27% plan to paint a ceiling in a bold, contrasting or unexpected color in the next 12 months.

Among those who are embracing non-white ceilings, half have gone bold with color or pattern, and 58% say the motivation behind the look was adding character and a personalized touch to an otherwise plain room.

Cabinets and Built-Ins Get a Color Refresh

Paint is also giving homeowners a way to change the look of a kitchen or built-in storage without taking on a full renovation.

Nearly half (45%) have already painted cabinets, built-ins or shelving, and 37% plan to. The motivation is both personal and practical: 43% say their main mindset is to personalize their space and try creative ideas, and 25% want to save money compared with hiring a contractor.

Technique is Trending

As homeowners move beyond familiar projects, crisp lines and precision are becoming increasingly important. Painter's tape is a must-have part of the process, with 97% saying they used or plan to use it for a recent or upcoming DIY project. 66% percent use it on almost every project requiring clean lines or multiple colors.

Still, only 21% say they feel completely confident achieving flawless, professional-looking lines on a complex painting project like arches, contrasting trim or doors, geometric or striped designs and small space transformations.

FrogTape Advanced™ Painter's Tape offers elevated performance when it comes to super sharp paint lines, conformability around curves and removal without tearing or shredding. The ultra-premium painter's tape is also treated with PaintBlock® Technology, which helps seal the tape's edges to block paint bleed.

New 12-month sponsorship will cover grocery costs for the Crisis Centre's emergency shelter, helping provide essential support for women and children in need.

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands, Oct. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Eightpoint today announced a new 12-month sponsorship agreement with the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre (CICC), committing to cover grocery costs for the organisation's emergency shelter beginning November 1, 2026.

The sponsorship will provide consistent support for one of the shelter's essential day-to-day needs, helping ensure that women and children seeking refuge have access to nutritious meals throughout the coming year. By covering these costs, Eightpoint aims to ease the Centre's operational expenses and allow more resources to be directed towards the care and support of those who rely on its services.

The Cayman Islands Crisis Centre provides emergency shelter, crisis intervention, advocacy and holistic support services for individuals and families affected by domestic and sexual abuse. Its work plays an important role in providing a safe environment for those experiencing crisis while helping survivors access the resources needed to rebuild their lives.

"This partnership is about supporting people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives," said Thomas Redford, Eightpoint President. "As a company that has called Cayman home since 2018, we believe it is important to give back to the community where our people live and work. By covering the shelter's grocery costs for the next year, we hope to provide some practical relief and allow the Crisis Centre to focus more of its resources on supporting the women and children who depend on its services."

Eightpoint Technologies has operated within Cayman Enterprise City since 2018 and is based at Signal House in George Town, where its leadership and commercial operations are located. The company continues to strengthen its presence in the Cayman Islands through long-term investment in its local operations and initiatives that create meaningful community impact.

"Having the support of Eightpoint in covering our emergency shelter's grocery needs for an entire year will make a meaningful difference to our organisation," said Ania Milanowska, Executive Director of the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre. "Providing a safe and supportive environment for those experiencing domestic abuse comes with many daily responsibilities, and access to nutritious meals is an essential part of that care. This sponsorship will help ease some of our operational costs, allowing us to direct more resources towards the individuals and families who rely on our services. We are incredibly grateful to Eightpoint for recognising this need and making such a generous commitment to our community."

For Eightpoint, the sponsorship reflects the company's commitment to supporting organisations that provide essential services and create meaningful, lasting impact within the Cayman Islands community.

"Eightpoint has benefited from being part of the Cayman community for many years, and we believe that commitment should extend beyond our business operations," said Deniz Gezgin, Eightpoint CEO. "The Cayman Islands Crisis Centre provides essential support to individuals and families when they need it most. We're pleased to contribute in a practical way by helping cover a fundamental need, giving the Centre greater flexibility to direct its resources towards the people and services that matter most."

The sponsorship will begin November 1, 2026, and continue for 12 months, providing ongoing grocery support for the Crisis Centre's emergency shelter. The initiative represents another step in Eightpoint's commitment to supporting local organisations through practical contributions that strengthen the Cayman Islands community.

American Lung Association's New Healthy Home Tool Can Help Families Create Safer Air at Home

The Healthy Home helps people learn how to identify hot spots and common air pollutants, with free follow-up with health experts for one-on-one support

CHICAGO, Oct. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Clean air at home is essential for everyone's health. Yet, indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than the air outside. Poor indoor air quality can cause or contribute to the development of infections, lung cancer and chronic lung diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). To help families protect themselves from indoor air pollution, the American Lung Association is launching the Healthy Home, a customizable and interactive indoor air quality educational tool to help people learn the causes of unhealthy air and what they can do to breathe easier at home.

Poor air quality at home impacts everyone, but children, older adults, pregnant individuals and people with lung disease, like asthma and COPD, and other underlying health conditions are especially vulnerable. Poor indoor air quality can cause severe allergic reactions, asthma flares, COPD exacerbations, headaches, fatigue and contribute to the spread of airborne bacteria and viruses.

"Air pollution is an invisible danger that too many people encounter in their homes. Commonly-found pollutants like chemicals from cleaning products, dust, cigarette smoke, e-cigarette vapor and radon can all be harmful to everyone's health—especially for children, whose lungs are still developing," said Harold Wimmer, President and CEO of the American Lung Association. "With the Healthy Home, we're helping people understand why indoor air quality is important for their family and provide actionable steps to ensure the air we breathe in our homes is as healthy as it can be."

During the Healthy Home experience, participants will be virtually guided room-by-room through one of three home types (single-family, multi-unit and manufactured) to identify air quality risks, such as cleaning products, fuel burning appliances, fireplaces, excessive moisture and building construction and furnishings and learn what to do to improve the air quality in their own home.

The most common air pollutants found in homes include particulate matter, gas contaminants, mold and mildew, dust and dust mites, cockroach allergens, pet dander, smoke from cigarettes and candles, vapor from e-cigarettes, fragrances and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from many household products. Radon can also be a big concern in homes nationwide. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer and a colorless and odorless gas that can build up indoors. Additionally, outdoor pollutants like pollen, vehicle exhaust, factory emissions and wildfire smoke can enter homes and make air unhealthy.

After completing the Healthy Home experience, participants will have access to free one-on-one education and support via the Lung HelpLine and Lung Health Navigator program, which is staffed by professionally trained lung health experts such as registered nurses and respiratory therapists. Participants will also receive an Indoor Air Quality Action Plan that can be personalized and other Lung Association educational resources.

NY's 50+ Voters Outnumber Younger Voters by 1.3 Million in Historical Turnout Scenario, New Analysis Finds

New voter analysis reveals shifting party affiliations, changing participation patterns and the enduring influence of voters 50+, who accounted for 62.5% of general-election participants in 2022.

ALBANY, N.Y., Oct. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- New York voters age 50 and older could once again account for a commanding share of the electorate in 2026, according to a new analysis prepared by Gotham Polling & Analytics for AARP New York.

If participation resembles New York's 2018 and 2022 gubernatorial elections, approximately 3.7 million voters age 50 and older could participate in the 2026 general election, compared with roughly 2.4 million voters under 50, a difference of about 1.3 million. Under that historical baseline, voters 50+ would account for approximately 61% of participants with known adult ages. The analysis presents a historical scenario, not a forecast of 2026 turnout.

Recent voting patterns underscore the influence of older New Yorkers. Voters age 50 and older comprised nearly 63% of identified general-election participants, despite representing just 50.5% of registered adults. Nearly 1.5 million more voters age 50 and older participated than voters under 50.

"The message to candidates across New York is clear: voters 50 and older show up. Their support must be earned, not assumed," said AARP New York State Director Beth Finkel. "Candidates should explain where they stand on the issues affecting older New Yorkers and their families, including protecting Social Security, supporting family caregivers, and addressing the costs of housing, health care and utilities."

"Polls tell us who voters say they'll support, but historical data tells us who actually shows up," said Stephen Graves, president of Gotham Polling & Analytics. "Older New Yorkers have consistently represented a substantial share of the electorate, including in closely contested congressional districts. Understanding those participation patterns is essential to understanding the state's political landscape."

The analysis also shows that older voters are not a single partisan bloc. In the 2022 general election, substantial numbers of older Democrats, Republicans and unaffiliated New Yorkers participated, underscoring the breadth of the 50+ electorate.

Older Voters Account for a Growing Share of the Electorate

Across comparable general-election cycles, voters age 50 and older made up a growing share of identified participants. Their share increased from 59.1% in 2018 to 62.5% in 2022. In presidential election years, it rose from 53.6% in 2020 to 55.3% in 2024.

Between the 2018 and 2022 general elections, identified participation among voters age 50 and older increased 1.9%, while participation among voters under 50 declined 11.5%. The report cautions that the growing share of older participants reflects both trends, rather than growth among older voters alone.

Unaffiliated Voter Registration Is Growing

New York's voter registration rolls have also changed substantially. The number of voters registered as blank or unaffiliated increased from approximately 2.61 million in 2018 to 3.45 million in 2026, a gain of more than 845,000.

Participation among unaffiliated voters has also increased. Between 2020 and 2024, participation among unaffiliated New Yorkers increased by 106,545, while participation among voters recorded as Democrats declined by 96,683 and participation among Republicans increased by 37,342.

The analysis cautions that these figures reflect changes in the sizes of participating groups and do not establish that individual voters switched parties. Unaffiliated registration means a voter has no recorded party enrollment; it does not indicate whether that voter is undecided.

Taken together, the findings show an electorate in transition while reinforcing a consistent pattern: New Yorkers age 50 and older have represented a disproportionately large share of general-election participation and could again wield significant influence in 2026.

Older Voters Represent a Majority in Selected Congressional Districts

In all five competitive congressional district cohorts (races identified by the Cook Political Report as Toss-up or Lean), voters age 50 and older represented a majority of identified 2024 general-election participants. Their share ranged from 54.7% in NY-4 to 61.8% in NY-21.

The district-level analysis examines voters registered in each selected district as of October 1, 2026, and their previously recorded voting histories. The figures describe current registered cohorts, not the complete historical electorates of those districts, and do not indicate candidate preferences.

- NY-3: Voters age 50+ represented 58.0% of identified 2024 general-election participants. The cohort included 52,634 unaffiliated participants age 50+, highlighting the significant older electorate outside the two major parties.

- NY-4: Voters age 50+ represented 54.7% of identified 2024 general-election participants. From 2020 to 2024, participation increased among both older Democratic women and older Republican men, demonstrating growth across recorded party affiliations.

- NY-17: Voters age 50+ represented 55.4% of identified 2024 general-election participants. From 2020 to 2024, older participation increased by 22,830, compared with 2,040 among voters under 50, meaning older voters accounted for about 92% of the net increase.

- NY-19: Voters age 50+ represented 59.8% of identified 2024 general-election participants. From 2020 to 2024, older participation increased by 22,446, compared with 5,825 among voters under 50, with older gains occurring across recorded party affiliations.

- NY-21: Voters age 50 and older represented 61.8% of identified 2024 general-election participants in the current registered cohort, the highest share among the five selected districts.

New York City and Regional Differences Shape the Electorate

New York City played a major role in the recent increase in older-voter participation. Between 2020 and 2024, the city added 115,800 identified general-election participants age 50 and older, accounting for 94.6% of the statewide increase among older participants. The share of city participants age 50 and older rose from 45.7% in 2020 to 49.6% in 2024. The city recorded more than 1.38 million identified participants age 50 and older in the 2024 general election, the largest older-voter population of any region.

Younger voters also showed a recent increase in primary participation concentrated in New York City. The city accounted for 95.2% of the statewide increase in under-50 primary participants between 2024 and 2026. The report cautions that primary participation should not be treated as a predictor of general-election turnout because the elections involve different electorates and eligibility requirements.

Other regional findings highlight the diversity of New York's electorate:

- Capital District: 65.7% of the region's net participation increase from 2018 to 2022 came from Saratoga. The region expanded while statewide participation contracted, but its growth was heavily concentrated.

- Central NY: 95.2% of the region's net participation decline from the 2018 to 2022 general elections came from Onondaga. Its loss of 9,340 participants concentrated the regional decline in its largest county.

- Finger Lakes: 11.6% growth in under-50 registration from 2018 to 2026 coexisted with younger participation declines in both the 2018-2022 and 2020-2024 general-election comparisons.

- Hudson Valley: About 5,600 additional general-election participants from 2020 to 2024 masked a decline of about 4,700 in Westchester. Gains across the other six counties offset the loss in the largest county.

- Long Island: About 53.3% age 50+ on the registration rolls in both 2018 and 2026 contrasts with an older shift at the polls. Older shares rose from 62.4% to 63.8% between the 2018 and 2022 general elections and from 55.7% to 57.0% between 2020 and 2024.

- Mohawk Valley: 62.0% of 2024 general-election participants were age 50+. Oneida supplied 45.3% of those older participants, concentrating much of the region's older numerical weight in one county.

- New York City: 94.6% of the statewide increase in general-election participants age 50+ from 2020 to 2024 came from the city. New York's younger electoral center was also its main source of older participant growth.

- North Country: 6.3% growth in older participation accompanied a 1.2% increase among younger participants from 2018 to 2022. Older voters gained weight in an expanding electorate, a countertrend to the statewide younger decline.

- Southern Tier: 59.7% of 2024 general-election participants were age 50+, a population of 179,810. Broome supplied 53,208 of those older participants, or 29.6% of the regional older total.

- Western NY: 66.6% of the region's 2024 participants age 50+ came from Erie, about 265,300 people. Smaller counties could have higher older shares, while Erie supplied most of the region's older electoral weight.

Kisha Davis, MD, MPH, FAAFP, Installed as AAFP President, Bringing Expertise in Public Health, Advocacy

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) today installed Kisha Davis, MD, MPH, FAAFP, as its new president. As a family physician and public health advocate, Davis brings a deep commitment to advancing health equity, strengthening care delivery and mentoring the next generation of family physicians. She will lead the AAFP in representing 124,500 family physicians, residents and medical students nationwide.

"I've always valued having a foot in both the policy and clinical worlds. They inform each other, and each makes the other stronger," said Davis. "Everyone deserves a family physician—someone who knows about diabetes and depression, the medical history and the story behind it. Through that firsthand experience, we see what works, where barriers remain and what communities need to thrive. Family physicians can bring those perspectives to the policy table to build a health care system that works better for everyone."

Davis serves as chief health officer for Montgomery County, Maryland, where she leads initiatives to improve health across the county. Previously, as vice president of health equity at Aledade, she worked to reduce disparities in primary care. Previously, she served as vice chair of the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC), advising Congress, the secretary of Health and Human Services and states on Medicaid policy. Earlier in her career, she served as medical director at CHI Health Care in Maryland and as a White House Fellow, where she worked to better align the nation's food and health safety nets.

She has held numerous leadership roles in the AAFP, spanning policy, governance and mentorship. Davis has served on the AAFP Commission on Federal and State Policy and the Membership Task Force, as the new physician member of the AAFP Board of Directors and as convener of the 2019 National Conference of Constituency Leaders. Her state leadership includes service as president, board chair and foundation treasurer of the Maryland Academy of Family Physicians.

"Family medicine is about showing up for people throughout their lives—not just when they're sick," said Davis. "My experiences have taught me that there is always an opportunity to be of service, and that's at the heart of family medicine. We build communities around our patients and around one another, in our practices, our neighborhoods and the halls of leadership. I am committed to ensuring that every family physician, at every stage of their career, feels that same sense of possibility and is empowered to use their voice to help our specialty thrive and grow for years to come."

Davis earned a bachelor's degree from Duke University and a medical degree from the University of Connecticut. She completed her residency at the University of Maryland, where she served as chief resident, and later earned a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.

She is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has earned the AAFP Degree of Fellow, which recognizes distinguished service and ongoing professional development.

The Brass Tap Marina Franchisee Karl Waller Earns Highest Sales Volume Award at 2026 FSC Franchise Conference

The Brass Tap Marina Franchisee Karl Waller Earns Highest Sales Volume Award at 2026 FSC Franchise Conference

In its first full year of operation, Waller's craft beer bar in Marina, California, posted the highest sales volume in The Brass Tap system, following his 2025 Franchisee of the Year honor.

MARINA, Calif., Oct. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Brass Tap, an upscale American tavern franchise with more than 50 locations, presented its Highest Sales Volume Award to Karl Waller, owner of the brand's Marina, California, location, at the 2026 FSC Franchise Conference.

The recognition marks another milestone for Waller, who was named The Brass Tap's Franchisee of the Year in 2025. A former global supply chain executive, Waller returned to the Marina area nearly 40 years after leaving the community where he grew up, aiming to create the kind of gathering place he felt was missing.

"We were working side by side with the community to ensure everyone knew we weren't just a business. We were part of the community," Waller said. "Building those relationships has helped us numerous times as we've grown."

Before joining The Brass Tap, Waller spent 25 years with Amway Corporation, eventually serving as director of global agribusiness operations and overseeing business entities in several countries and states. After retiring early, he began looking for his next opportunity and returned to franchising, having previously owned a Mail Boxes Etc. location before the concept became The UPS Store.

Waller discovered The Brass Tap after visiting a location near his home in Flower Mound, Texas. He saw an opportunity to bring its chef-inspired, craveable food, craft beer & elevated cocktails, and social experiences to Marina, where new development was bringing more people into the area, but options for dining, socializing and group events remained limited.

"One customer described [Marina] as a desert for this type of business — a nice place to eat, drink and have fun," Waller said. "The entertainment aspect is also a key part of it. Not only do we have good food and drinks, but we are also the place to go for entertainment."

Since opening, Waller and his family have continued to adjust the business around what local customers want. While Waller initially expected craft beer to drive much of the restaurant's traffic, food quickly became an equally important part of the business, drawing families as well as guests looking for drinks and entertainment.

Waller has also focused on building a management team to handle the restaurant's day-to-day operations, letting him spend more time connecting with guests and overseeing special events.

"From day one, I didn't want to be an owner-operator," Waller said. "I didn't want the success of the business to be tied to just me running the business. I don't know how to bartend, serve or cook. So I spend my time working on the business, not in the business."

The award comes as The Brass Tap continues to grow nationwide. Today, the brand operates more than 50 locations across the United States, offering craft beer, cocktails, food, live entertainment and a neighborhood-focused atmosphere.

"Winning Franchisee of the Year and then Highest Sales Volume the next year takes more than a good location. Karl listened to his guests, built out the food and events side of the business when the community asked for it and trusted his managers to run the restaurant. Marina is a strong example of The Brass Tap working the way it was designed, as a local destination people choose to come back to," said Chris Elliott, CEO of FSC Franchise Co.
