MELBOURNE, Australia--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Rio Tinto, the Tasmanian Government and the Australian Government have reached agreement to secure the ongoing operation of Bell Bay Aluminium in northern Tasmania through to the end of 2031.

Under the arrangements, Hydro Tasmania will continue supplying electricity to Bell Bay Aluminium until 31 December 2031, and the Australian and Tasmanian Governments will provide additional support to continue operations as Tasmania’s energy system evolves.

The additional support will help maintain Bell Bay Aluminium’s international competitiveness and its ongoing contribution to the Tasmanian economy.

Rio Tinto Aluminium & Lithium Chief Executive Jérôme Pécresse said: “These agreements will provide Bell Bay Aluminium with an operating pathway through to 2031, and increased certainty for our people, suppliers and the northern Tasmanian community.

“Bell Bay Aluminium has been part of Tasmania's heritage for 71 years, and we are proud of the jobs, exports and economic value it creates for the State.

“With these agreements in place, we can continue to safely deliver high-quality aluminium products for our customers in Australia and around the world.

“I would like to thank the Tasmanian and Australian Governments, Hydro Tasmania, our workers and everyone else who contributed to securing this outcome.”

About Bell Bay Aluminium

Bell Bay Aluminium is 100% owned by Rio Tinto and began operating in 1955. It was the first aluminium smelter in the Southern Hemisphere and produces about 190,000 tonnes of aluminium a year.

The smelter supports about 550 full-time employees and indirectly supports more than 1200 jobs. It spends about A$260 million annually with 180 suppliers.

Rio Tinto's integrated Australian aluminium production chain of bauxite mines, alumina refineries and aluminium smelters is a significant economic driver, employing over 5000 people directly and supporting thousands more Australian livelihoods.

Bell Bay’s current power supply arrangement with Hydro Tasmania ends on 31 December 2026.

“We are finishing the year with momentum, with significant opportunities to accelerate improvements in safety, productivity and reliability through implementation of our operating system. We remain on track for a $1.8 billion annualised productivity benefit run-rate by the end of 2026. Our major projects remain on schedule and budget, underwriting our growth profile to 2030.

“We made further significant steps in decarbonising our business in the third quarter, with our Pacific Aluminium smelter repowering arrangements now well progressed.

“Today, we announce that we have achieved more than $2 billion1 of capital release year-to-date, as we actively manage our portfolio with discipline to maximise long-term value, as part of the $5 to 10 billion capital release program.”

MELBOURNE, Australia--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Rio Tinto will invest $1.9 billion1 to develop the Kangwinan bauxite project on Western Cape York Peninsula in Queensland, underpinning the long-term future of its Weipa Operations and continued supply to its international customers and its Australian alumina refineries.

Kangwinan highlights Rio Tinto’s continued commitment to mining in Australia and will sustain its position as one of the world’s leading high-quality bauxite producers.

This brownfield investment will leverage Rio Tinto’s project execution capability and reflects continued application of the company’s disciplined capital allocation framework. It will add 20 million tonnes of annual bauxite production capacity in Weipa, leveraging some existing infrastructure, with first output targeted in 2029 and full production expected by 2032.

The project will replace production from the Andoom mine near Weipa as it reaches the end of its life this decade, while increasing Weipa Operations’ annual capacity to about 44 million tonnes, from current production of around 38 million tonnes per year. It will also help compensate for the planned end of production at the Gove mine in the Northern Territory in 2029.

Rio Tinto Aluminium & Lithium Chief Executive Jérôme Pécresse said: “Kangwinan is a strong vote of confidence in Weipa, in the quality of its bauxite, the capability of its workforce, and the future of the communities and businesses closely connected to our operations.

“The project represents the most significant new mining investment in Queensland in recent years and is a sign of Rio Tinto’s long-term commitment to its bauxite business, the State and our integrated mine-to-metal aluminium value chain.

“For more than 60 years, we have operated in Western Cape York, building a world-class bauxite business and enduring relationships with Traditional Owners and local communities. Cultivating and expanding that ongoing partnership will be critical to the long-term success of our operations.

“As Kangwinan moves forward, and with the planned acquisition of the Aurukun Bauxite Project, we will keep listening and working together to create lasting value for Western Cape York, while respecting the connection Traditional Owners have to Country and making sure they continue to benefit sustainably from our operations.

“This investment will support jobs, create opportunities for local and regional businesses, and help us continue supplying our customers with the high-quality bauxite they have relied on for decades.”

Kangwinan, where early works began in 2025, will establish a new bauxite production centre 15 kilometres south-east of Rio Tinto’s Amrun mine, which is located 40km south of the town of Weipa. A 15-kilometre conveyor will transport ore from Kangwinan to expanded stockyard facilities and the existing Amrun wharf.

The wharf will be expanded to accommodate larger capesize vessels, improving supply-chain efficiency and reducing freight costs.

Construction will ramp up in 2027 and is expected to support more than 1,300 construction jobs. Longer term, the project will help sustain Rio Tinto’s residentially based workforce of around 1,500 people in the Western Cape.

In addition to its Kangwinan investment, Rio Tinto last month agreed to acquire, subject to government approvals, the adjacent Aurukun Bauxite Project from current owners Glencore (70%) and Mitsubishi (30%) to support its long-term growth plans in Western Cape York, using existing and planned infrastructure. The combined Amrun, Kangwinan and Aurukun operations are expected to support Weipa Operations well beyond the middle of this century.

Additional information

Rio Tinto’s Australian aluminium operations span bauxite mines, alumina refineries and aluminium smelters, directly employing more than 5,000 people and supporting thousands more jobs across the country. The Kangwinan project, alongside recent agreements to support the future of the Bell Bay, Tomago and Boyne smelters, demonstrates how Rio Tinto is investing across its integrated aluminium value chain to support Australian production and jobs for years to come.

The project was named Kangwinan at the request of the Wik Waya Traditional Owners. Kangwinan is a protector of all sacred, ceremonial and female protocols of the Wik Waya tribe. It is also the name of the black female crow, a totem of the Wik Waya people. Rio Tinto will continue to work with Traditional Owners to minimise impacts on cultural heritage, waterways and important access routes.

Environmental permits for the Kangwinan project were previously secured through the State and Commonwealth-approved South of Embley Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

If the Aurukun acquisition proceeds, Rio Tinto would assess the appropriate environmental approvals pathway for its future development, in consultation with State and Commonwealth agencies, and work closely with Traditional Owners throughout the next stages of planning and development.

This announcement is authorised for release to the market by Matthew Whyte, Rio Tinto’s Group Company Secretary.

Oracle AI World 2026: How Oracle Is Putting AI to Work Across the Enterprise
Image File
Original HTML

Oracle opened Oracle AI World 2026 in Las Vegas with a clear message: AI should do more than provide answers. It should help get the work done.

During a sold-out keynote on October 26, Oracle announced three new Oracle Fusion AI capabilities for its cloud software, which large companies use to run finance, HR, supply chain, and customer service. Live demonstrations across shipping, HR, restaurants, and emergency care showed how these capabilities could move AI beyond recommendations and into execution.

Here is what the Oracle AI World keynotes revealed about the company’s direction and what the announcements mean for enterprise leaders.

Oracle's Vision for Applied AI in the Enterprise

Oracle CEO Mike Sicilia set the tone early. Many companies already use AI to identify problems and reduce costs. The next step is enabling AI to act on what it finds. That requires four things: access to enterprise data, an understanding of its business context, sufficient computing power, and integration into the software employees use every day.

Business software still requires people to do much of the legwork, including identifying the right system, navigating screens, and securing approvals. Sicilia challenged this approach with a straightforward question: Why should anyone need six different systems to get one thing done?

Three New Oracle Fusion AI Capabilities

Chris Leone, who leads Oracle’s applications team, followed with three announcements that bring AI closer to everyday enterprise operations:

- Fusion Claw: Enables AI to handle more complex, extended tasks that typically require a specialist, such as a planner or financial analyst.

- Fusion Companion and Fusion Agentic Home: Allow employees to request what they need in plain language rather than navigating menus and screens.

- The Fusion Setup and Configuration Registry: Helps AI tools configure Oracle’s software for new customers, a process that currently involves months of manual work.

All three capabilities are available to customers now.

Fusion Claw Demo: AI That Executes, Not Just Recommends

The distinction became clear during a live demonstration built around a shipping company’s planning screen. Oracle’s AI identified orders at risk of running late, found two truckloads that could be combined to save $12,000, and reshuffled some orders.

Oracle then demonstrated Oracle Fusion Claw taking on a more demanding assignment: reworking the entire shipping plan. The revised plan filled trucks to 88% of capacity, up from 61%, and saved $58,000. Fusion Claw also recognised where human judgment was needed, routing five uncertain loads to a human planner before executing the remaining work.

Oracle now offers 75 ready-made AI applications across finance, HR, supply chain, and customer service. Of these, 25 use Fusion Claw, bringing agentic execution into a broader portfolio of enterprise applications. A closer examination of how Fusion Claw works will follow in an upcoming article.

Fusion Companion and Agentic Home: Getting Work Done Without Navigating Menus

Using business software often means knowing exactly where to click, whether that involves opening a particular screen, finding a report, or submitting an approval. Fusion Companion removes much of that navigation.

Employees can describe what they need in plain language, and Companion determines how to fulfil the request while respecting company security rules governing access and permissions. The capability works inside ChatGPT, with support for other AI assistants to follow.

Fusion Agentic Home brings the same approach to a mobile application for Android and iPhone. Designed for employees who spend much of their working day away from a desk, it supports voice-based interactions. A store worker could report hours aloud, while a head nurse could request a revised schedule for the following week.

Together, these capabilities show how an Oracle agentic application can make enterprise software easier to use by bringing actions closer to employees, rather than requiring them to navigate the application.

Fusion Setup and Configuration Registry: Faster Oracle Fusion Implementations

Before a company can use business software, its rules, approval workflows, and configuration settings must be established. This process is often among the slowest and most expensive parts of an implementation, with consultants repeating much of the same work for different customers.

Oracle’s Fusion Setup and Configuration Registry aims to change that process. It functions as a step-by-step instruction manual for configuring Oracle software, structured so AI tools can follow the instructions and perform the setup, with experts reviewing the work before it goes live.

Oracle’s developers will maintain the registry as the software evolves. The resource is free and publicly available, giving implementation teams and AI tools access to a common foundation for configuration.

The intended outcome is a faster, less expensive implementation process that frees teams to focus more of their time on improving business operations.

Agentic AI in Action: Spectrum, Burger King Italia and Oracle Health

Oracle AI World also featured customer demonstrations showing how these capabilities are being applied in real operating environments.

Spectrum, the US telecom and cable provider, uses AI helpers called “Ask HR” for approximately 100,000 employees, many of whom work in stores, vans, and call centres. In the demonstration, an employee whose daughter had been rushed to hospital requested time off through her phone and received approval with one tap. The system also notified her manager, found someone to cover her shift, and subsequently initiated her leave paperwork. Decisions involving pay and sensitive personal matters remain with people.

QSRP, which operates Burger King restaurants in Italy, developed a control centre that identifies failing delivery orders, determines the cause, and resolves the issue across every affected restaurant at once. Sophie Buresi, its head of AI, explained that a busy restaurant manager needs to understand what is wrong and what action to take in under five seconds.

In healthcare, paramedics shared video from police body cameras, patient vital signs, and their own assessments with an emergency room doctor before the patient arrived. In a separate demonstration, Oracle’s AI helped a hospital investigate why fewer heart procedures were being booked. The analysis identified fewer referrals from local doctors, a competing clinic that had recently opened nearby, and two insurance plans that increased costs for patients.

These examples showed how agentic capabilities can connect information with action across different industries, while keeping operational requirements and human oversight central to the process.

Trust and Governance in Enterprise AI

Throughout the keynote, Sicilia returned to a central principle: AI systems capable of taking action require clear boundaries. They must respect spending approval limits, protect patient information, and route decisions requiring human judgment to the appropriate people.

He closed with examples of AI helping governments predict food shortages in Africa, reinforcing the broader potential of enterprise intelligence when it operates within clear governance frameworks.

Trust, he argued, is something organisations must earn through how their systems behave, rather than something they can simply announce.

Meet AppsTek at Oracle AI World 2026

Oracle is advancing its applications strategy with a clear focus on execution. Fusion Claw enables AI to handle more complex tasks, Fusion Companion simplifies how employees interact with enterprise software, and the Fusion Setup and Configuration Registry aims to accelerate implementations.

Together, these Oracle Fusion AI capabilities signal a shift in Oracle’s applications strategy, moving AI beyond recommendations towards execution within governed enterprise workflows.

For business leaders following Oracle AI World, the central question is how to translate these capabilities into measurable outcomes across existing systems and teams. The technology establishes new possibilities, but business results will depend on how effectively organisations integrate it into their operations.

AppsTek Corp is in Las Vegas through October 28. Connect with the team to discuss Oracle AI, agentic applications, and opportunities to turn enterprise AI capabilities into practical business outcomes.

Oracle AI World 2026: What Fusion Claw Means for the C-Suite
Image File
Original HTML

Fusion now executes specialist work

At Oracle AI World in Las Vegas on October 26, 2026, Oracle put Fusion Claw at the centre of its applications strategy. Claw is a governed runtime that carries out the specialist work usually done by financial analysts, supply chain planners and workforce schedulers. It then commits the results to Fusion, inside limits the business sets.

Oracle first introduced Claw on September 29, 2026. The AI World release widens its reach across the suite, and Oracle says all of it is available now in the current Fusion release. The decision for executives is how much execution to delegate, and under which controls.

What Oracle announced

Oracle’s agentic applications are built around a business outcome, such as shipping orders on time within cost and capacity limits. They run around the clock and recommend actions. When a task needs deep analysis across millions of records, the application hands it to Claw.

- Scope of work spanning Reconciliation, analysis, planning, simulation and optimization. Runs can last hours.

- 75 packaged agentic applications, ready to deploy across ERP, HCM, SCM and CX.

- 25 of them are Claw-enabled, including Ledger (financial close), Workforce Orchestration, Supply Planning Allocation, Procurement Spend, Service Health Check and Strategic Field Demand Planning.

- Build your own extensions for customers with no-code tools in AI Agent Studio, or in VS Code and a command-line interface.

- Models spread Google Gemini and OpenAI models handle reasoning at launch.

- Access from anywhere. Fusion Companion routes a plain-language request to a transaction, an agent, an agentic application or Claw. It runs in Fusion Agentic Home, on iOS and Android, and as a ChatGPT plug-in.

Oracle reports 5.7 million agent runs a quarter across its customer base.

How a Claw run works

How a Fusion Claw run works · 6 steps inside the Operating Envelope

The model plans once and deterministic code handles the volume. Oracle says this keeps results consistent across millions of records and limits token spend to the planning step. Two operating modes matter for risk owners. Research mode does all the analysis and stages the actions, which can number in the hundreds, for a person to accept, edit or reject. Full-auto mode re-checks the live state of Fusion before it commits anything, so it never acts on a stale plan. Leone set a “5pm test”: AI that stops pursuing an outcome when staff go home is not owning it.

What the demos showed

Oracle ran three Claw scenarios on stage. These are vendor demonstrations, not audited customer results, but they show the scale of change Oracle is claiming.

Oracle also says Claw records the path each run takes, so similar runs reason faster. Internal testing showed up to 50% less reasoning time on repeat runs. Oracle has not published benchmarks.

What executives should do now

- Pilot one Claw-enabled application: Chris Leone, who leads Fusion development, asked customers to take one of the 75 applications off the shelf and run it with a pilot group. Pick a process with a clear financial measure, such as close duration or freight cost.

- Define the operating envelope first: Decide which actions Claw may commit alone, which need approval and which must escalate. Finance, risk and audit should sign this off before full-auto mode is switched on.

- Start in research mode: Let Claw stage actions for review until results match what your planners would have done.

- Ask for the receipts: Make the Outcome Receipt part of internal audit evidence from day one.

- Check the data first: Claw acts on the live system of record. Gaps in master data, approval hierarchies or policy set-up will show up in its results, so fix them before the pilot starts.

- Plan for wider rollout: Leone suggested trialling Agentic Home now and extending it to a broad user base by January or February 2027.

Conclusion

Fusion Claw is ready to pilot, but the results will depend on the groundwork: clear limits, clean data and a measured move from research mode to full auto. Companies that settle those questions early will be the first to turn Oracle’s demo numbers into results of their own.

If you are weighing where Fusion Claw fits in your Oracle roadmap, AppsTek can help you find the right starting point. Connect with our experts today.

Thorsten Frei lehnt Festlegung auf Ilse Aigner als Bundespräsidenten-Kandidatin ab - Unions-Fraktionschef bei "Hard Talk mit Gordon Repinski"

Berlin (ots)

Genau dieses Vertrauen versuchen Angreifer auszunutzen", sagt Stefan Heitkamp, Director of Retail, Etail and OEM Partnerships bei ESET.

Zusätzliche Investments in KI-gestützte Abwehr

Ribbit demonstrates collaborative teaming between autonomous helicopter, airplane, and drones

OTTAWA, ON, Oct. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Ribbit announced today a major milestone in aviation autonomy and teaming. In May 2026, an autonomous Bell 412EP helicopter operated by the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), an autonomous Cessna 150 airplane operated by Ribbit, and multiple virtual drones executed a mock search and rescue mission near Ottawa. This joint achievement marks the first time that a helicopter, airplane, and virtual aircraft have accomplished a shared goal through mission and platform autonomy commanded by a single human.

The airplane executed search patterns for a missing person, updating and modifying flight plans based on a common operating picture. Once the person was located, the helicopter performed a casualty evacuation while the airplane continued to provide situational awareness from above. Virtual drones were also part of the search team, enhancing mission complexity. Safety pilots were on board the airplane and helicopter, while all flights were executed autonomously under the direction of a single mission commander controlling all assets.

This historic milestone was achieved through collaboration with the NRC's new Drone Innovation Hub where Ribbit is developing a strategic Canadian capability in fixed-wing autonomy. The combination of Ribbit's capabilities with the NRC's capabilities in rotary-wing autonomy were essential in achieving this milestone.

"By combining research with technology, we successfully demonstrated autonomous aircraft working together toward a shared mission. This collaboration highlights the power of Canadian innovation in advancing next-generation aviation capabilities." - Derek Gowanlock, Program Director for Aurora Shield, National Research Council of Canada

"Today's milestone was accomplished with impeccable speed and coordination between government and industry. I am extremely proud of what our teams have achieved, and look forward to continuing our work with NRC and DND/CAF." - Carl Pigeon, CEO of Ribbit

"The first pillar of the Defence Industrial Strategy is to build. When the right partners are backed by the right programs, Canada builds world-leading capabilities that strengthen our industrial base and maintain operational advantage." - Jeremy Wang, President & COO of Ribbit

This milestone follows over three years of close collaboration between Ribbit and the NRC in which Ribbit has been contracted to test its autonomous technology for high-priority dual-use missions across joint operations, tactical aviation, and public safety.

About Ribbit

Founded in 2020, Ribbit builds and operates autonomous airplanes for civil, humanitarian, and defence customers. Ribbit is a contractor of record to various government agencies responsible for research, public safety, transport, and defence. Ribbit also maintains strategic relationships with wholesalers, freight forwarders, Indigenous communities, and humanitarian groups who contract air cargo at scale. In 2023, Ribbit performed Canada's first hands-free round-trip flightânow a routine occurrence at select airports. Following hundreds of hours of autonomous flight, civil and military flight authorities, and repeat sales, Ribbit is proud to be a trusted partner to organizations seizing the potential of affordable autonomous aircraft.
