LiveU connects live field acquisition to the Story Object Model, the open standard newsrooms are building so AI-enabled production tools work from one shared understanding of a story

HACKENSACK, N.J. , Sept. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- LiveU is participating in the IBC Accelerator Incubator 2026: Smart Stories – The New Knowledge Architecture for Content Production, an industry-wide initiative developing the Story Object Model (SOM), an open standard for structuring and sharing editorial story context across newsroom production systems. SOM creates one story that every tool works from – cutting time to air, giving every team a single view, and preventing errors caused by rewriting metadata between vendors.

This new consortium spans more than a dozen broadcasters, news organizations, standards bodies, and technology vendors, covering the full content chain from news gathering through to distribution. Champions include ITN, BBC, AP (Associated Press), Al Jazeera, Channel 4, Washington Post, BBC, ITV, Sky, EBU, NBCUniversal, Reuters, Scripps, and SMPTE. LiveU joins the project alongside technology participants including Google Cloud, Shure, Trint, Cognizant, EVS, CUEZ, Trint, AWS, Nuvelics, Electric Sheep, the Weather Company, Moments Lab, HyperContent AI, Octopus, Fonn Group and Vizrt.

A gap AI can't close on its own

As content volume grows exponentially, broadcasters need better ways to discover and distribute it, and the ability to build one story into versions that span broadcast, social, and streaming. Today, producers hold that structure themselves, manually re-entering and aligning details. That slows production and raises the risk of error as stories advance toward air.

Smart Stories closes that gap with a new knowledge architecture for content production. MOS (Media Object Server), the broadcast industry's long-standing operational standard, connects systems by moving data between them but is editorially blind. In contrast, SOM is designed to connect them editorially: it gives every tool in the chain a shared, structured description of what a story is, what has changed, and what matters. AI agents and production tools can act on that understanding without a producer relaying it by hand.

The Accelerator project also defines Skills, so editorial standards, compliance thresholds and house style stay encoded and owned by the newsroom.

LiveU's role: a story-centric ingest workflow built around SOM

SOM extends LiveU's story-centric automated ingest and acquisition workflow by adding another layer of interoperability to LiveU's open EcoSystem. SOM enables editorial teams to share context in real time between vendors, leading to context-aware agentic workflows. LiveU Ingest today already shares live feeds and metadata with newsroom, editing, and distribution platforms outside LiveU.

"Live production has always depended on context traveling from the field into the newsroom and across every tool that touches a story," said Roy Hasson, VP Product Marketing and SaaS Sales, LiveU. "For years, producers held that context in their heads, as AI agents take on more of the production workflow, they need that same context to work from. Smart Stories is the industry building the standard that makes story-centric workflows possible, so systems understand each other and agentic AI can support the editorial process. Our field-to-cloud technology powers that work today."

One use case focuses on connecting acquisition units directly to the story. When a story breaks, LiveU suggests which unit to dispatch. That unit's feed carries the story's context into the cloud. Transcription and clip generation build on that context automatically. One person then confirms the story in a shared console.

Hasson continued, "We are committed to open industry standards, because they increase collaboration and interoperability between vendors across the production chain. That commitment shows up in LiveU's active participation in initiatives like SOM, MXL, and TAMS – open projects that keep our IP-video EcoSystem connected to outside tools and platforms."

Deliverables and live demo at IBC2026

The consortium will deliver three outputs before IBC2026 in Amsterdam, the Story Object Model specification, a Skills reference architecture and a live multi-vendor demonstration. The demonstration takes two forms: a filmed, end-to-end breaking-news pipeline, and a live event where a story changes mid-production, and every connected system responds in real time, with a human editor giving final sign-off. The consortium will also publish a three-tier integration guide, giving vendors a defined path to adopt SOM.

LiveU will join the consortium's live showcase on Saturday, September 12th:

- Smart Stories Incubator showcase: 4:00–5:00pm, Future Tech Stage, Hall 14

- Accelerator networking reception: 5:00–6:00pm, immediately following the showcase

Network Control: Your Connection, Your Choice

LiveU is also participating in this second IBC2026 Accelerator Project, using open 5G network APIs to turn 5G from best-effort connectivity into a programmable, predictable and reliable production resource.

Network Control: Your Connection, Your Choice unites the BBC, EBU, DAZN, France Télévisions, GSMA, RAI Italy, RTL Germany, TV2 Denmark, Vodafone and Telefónica as Champions, alongside LiveU, Neutral Wireless, Haivision, SliceFinity and Vonage as Participants, with the University of Strathclyde serving as Academic Partner. Together, the group explores how open network APIs can help applications with specialized requirements interact with standardized network capabilities designed to meet defined quality requirements, supporting reliable and business-critical media production workflows over 5G.

LiveU's full IP-video EcoSystem will be on display at Stand 7.C24. To arrange a meeting or demonstration, visit https://get.liveu.tv/ibc-2026/

The IBC Accelerator Zone is located in Hall 14, D.25. The Accelerator PoC Showcases for the above projects will be on Saturday September 12th 16-17.00hrs (Smart Stories) and Sunday September 13th 11.30am-12.30pm (Network Control) on the Future Tech Stage, also in Hall 14.

DJI Launches Osmo 360 II at IFA 2026, Delivering 8K 360° Flagship Imaging for Epic Shots, Day or Night

New 360 Camera from DJI Features High Dynamic Range 1-Inch 8K/60fps Imaging Sensor, AI SuperNight 2.0, and Ultra-Hard Replaceable Lenses

BERLIN, Sept. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- DJI, the global leader in civilian drones and creative camera technology, today launches Osmo 360 II to the global market. Featuring the company's latest flagship panoramic imaging, this next-gen technology was built on the handheld imaging expertise DJI has amassed over 12 years as an industry game-changer. The Osmo 360 II's technical DNA evolved from innovations in DJI's distortion control for aerial photography, stabilization from the professional Ronin series of gimbals, and color science through successive generations of Osmo Action cameras. Moreover, Osmo 360 II innovates on the company's first 360° camera, Osmo 360, and its first 360° drone, Avata 360, to deliver further enhanced imaging capabilities.

Osmo 360 II's advanced square HDR image sensor increases sensor utilization by 25%[1], reducing power consumption while keeping footage clean and clear, day or night[1]. Paired with AI SuperNight 2.0, Osmo 360 II captures exceptionally clean low-light shots. In addition to advances in imaging quality, the new 360° camera also features ultra-hard, replaceable lenses[1] and 105 GB of built-in storage, allowing creators to shoot fearlessly as they capture every moment – night or day – in stunning detail from every angle.

1-inch 8K/60 fps HDR 360° Imaging Captures Epic Action Shots Night or Day

Osmo 360 II offers the industry's first advanced 1-inch square HDR image sensor[1] that maintains the same 360° image field as a traditional 1-inch rectangular sensor. The 360° dynamic range has been expanded to 14.5 stops[1], doubling the brightness range. Additionally, an all-new AI noise-reduction algorithm, AI SuperNight 2.0, enables creators to capture exceptionally clean, bright low-light shots[1]. For high-speed action shots, the camera's large 2.4 μm pixels and a high-performance chip enable epic shots from every angle in 8K/60fps 360° video – keeping every frame sharp and free of motion blur.

Diverse Scenarios, Various Angles:

- Motorcycling: The camera can be securely mounted anywhere for unique multi-angle shots. With Gesture Control and Voice Control, creators can start recording instantly without releasing the throttle.

- Diving: The camera is ready for underwater action up to 10 meters[1] out of the box. For deep dives, creators can seal it inside the Invisible Waterproof Case and explore down to 50 m[1].

- Skiing: The camera can be used in -20°C (-4°F) temperatures[1], and will start shooting by double twisting the selfie stick. Creators can unlock aerial views with the 2.5m Extended Carbon Fiber Selfie Stick, and add Motion Blur for a more cinematic run.

- Mountain Biking / Road Cycling: The camera's powerful stabilization can smooth out the rough trails. Creators can add the Sports Dashboard overlay to create engaging data-rich cycling videos.

- Vlogging: The camera can be used for solo selfie videos with the Invisible Selfie Stick serving as an on-the-go camera crew. Paired with Dual Recording, creators can capture passing scenery and multiple people in a single frame to make their stories even more immersive.

Creative Features to Shape the Light:

- 120MP HDR 360° Photo[1]: Creators can freeze any scene as an HDR 360° photo with true-to-life lighting and contrast

- 16K 360° Timelapse[1]: Capture the epic flow of time in 16K resolution[1], using Clouds mode to condense sweeping skies

- 64x Pano Slow Motion[1]: Unlock up to 64x of buttery-smooth slow motion in post-production with DJI Studio's AI frame interpolation that's equivalent to cropped 8K/480fps[1]

- 8K/120fps Vortex[1]: Turn exciting moments into smooth high-definition wraparound slow motion with a simple swing

- 10-bit & D-Log M[1] Color Profile: Every video format now supports 10-bit color depth, capturing over a billion colors

Improved Workflows with Spotlight Follow and One-Tap NFC Connections

Osmo 360 II and the upgraded DJI Mimo app offer intelligent subject-tracking and improved ease-of-use features. With Spotlight Follow[1], creators can intelligently track and keep a subject centered in the frame, no matter how the camera rotates – without needing to reframe in post. Additionally, Osmo 360 II features a new NFC area for more streamlined workflows. With one tap, the camera can quickly connect with the Mimo app, transfer footage, or go directly to the app's editing page. Users can import 360° video files exported from DJI Studio directly using the plugin for DaVinci Resolve, accelerating professional workflows. With these upgrades, DJI enables a wider range of users—from professional imaging specialists to everyday users—to become panoramic content creators.

Create Fearlessly with Ultra-Hard Replaceable Lenses

Osmo 360 II features an all-new replaceable lens design. Both lenses feature an ultra-hard optical film for improved scratch and wear resistance. If a lens gets damaged, creators can easily swap it out and keep shooting quickly. Weighing just 183g and equipped with 105GB of built-in storage, the camera makes shooting on the go effortless. Moreover, the Osmo 360 II battery can record continuously for 100 minutes[1] at 8K/30 fps resolution and fast-charge to 80% in just 22 minutes[1]. With the Battery Extension Rod, runtime can be extended by 180 minutes[1].

Seamless Integration with DJI Ecosystem

Osmo 360 II has a built-in four-mic array and wind noise reduction design that delivers crisp audio straight from the camera. With DJI OsmoAudio Direct Microphone Connection, the camera is compatible with DJI Mic 3, DJI Mic 2, DJI Mic Mini 2S, DJI Mic Mini 2, and DJI Mic Mini. The Osmo dual-direction quick-release design enables magnetic attachment on both sides. Featuring a 1/4″ thread, it easily connects to DJI Osmo ecosystem accessories and traditional camera gear, unlocking unique angles for any scene.

Osmo 360 II Makes Global Offline Debut at IFA 2026

DJI will debut Osmo 360 II at IFA 2026 (Booth No. H20-129, Hall 20) – one of the world's largest consumer electronics trade shows from September 4th to 8th. Attendees will be able to experience the innovative imaging capabilities of DJI's latest 360° camera first hand.

Scenari diversi, angolazioni varie:

Integrazione perfetta nell'ecosistema DJI

Lyman-Morse Workboats Contracted to Build Advanced 59-Foot Research Vessel for Maryland Department of Natural Resources

This custom aluminum Subchapter T-certified vessel is designed for research, sampling, and operations in the coastal waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

THOMASTON, Maine, Sept. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- LM Workboats, a division of Lyman-Morse, is under contract to build a specially designed 59-foot aluminum Research Vessel to support scientific and field operations for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, supporting year-round scientific operations on the Chesapeake Bay and near-coastal Atlantic waters.

Designed in collaboration with Chartwell Marine, a UK-based naval architecture firm specializing in high-performance aluminum workboats, the vessel will combine near-coastal capability, dynamic maneuverability, and mission-specific research functionality in a rugged aluminum platform engineered to demanding government specifications.

This latest LM Workboats project supports the Maryland Department of Natural Resources initiative to develop a next-generation Chesapeake Bay Research Vessel capable of providing critical monitoring information to help protect and restore Maryland's water quality and habitat conditions. The vessel is intended to serve as a state-of-the-art, multi-mission platform capable of safely conducting year-round operations in inland Chesapeake Bay waters and near coastal Atlantic waters under a wide range of operating conditions.

Measuring 59.06 feet LOA with a 19-foot beam, the vessel is powered by twin MAN diesel engines and designed to achieve a speed of 20 knots at 90 percent rated engine power. A dynamic station-keeping system will allow the crew to maintain precise position during sampling and data collection, even in challenging tidal and current conditions.

A large aft working deck with integrated A-frame equipment-handling capability will support deployment and retrieval of sampling gear, buoys, and other mission-critical equipment.

"This project reflects the growing demand for highly specialized aluminum workboats," said Jonathan Egan, Division Manager of LM Workboats. "Maryland DNR came to us with a genuinely complex brief—a vessel that had to perform as a research platform, meet rigorous Coast Guard and UNOLS standards, and operate reliably year-round on the Bay and near-coastal waters. That's exactly the kind of project our team is built for."

The vessel will be built to U.S. Coast Guard Subchapter T, ABYC, AWS, and UNOLS standards, receiving a Certificate of Inspection for up to 20 passengers on inland and near-coastal waters. "Subchapter T means every aspect of the build, from structural engineering and welding to fire suppression and stability testing, is independently reviewed and verified," said Egan. "There are no shortcuts, and that's exactly what a government research vessel demands."

LM Workboats will construct the vessel in its 15,000-square-foot dedicated metal fabrication facility in Rockland, Maine, before final outfitting and systems integration at the company's Thomaston waterfront facility.

The Maryland DNR vessel adds to LM Workboats' established portfolio of advanced aluminum workboats delivered to government, municipal, and institutional clients across the United States.

Lyman-Morse is one of the few boatbuilders in the United States with ISO 9001-certified quality-management systems supporting marine manufacturing operations. The company also maintains AWS-certified welding procedures, certified welding inspectors, ABYC-certified technicians, and rigorous material traceability and inspection protocols throughout construction.
