BEIJING – November 04, 2026 -- Members of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) have announced USD83.5 million in new commitments to the Bank's Project Preparation Special Fund, lifting total contributions and commitments to about USD213 million.
Fund has approved USD110 million in grants for 45 projects across 13 members
Established in 2016, the fund pools member resources to finance project preparation, with particular attention to the needs of less developed AIIB members. As of September 2026, it had approved USD110 million in grants covering 45 projects in 13 AIIB members.
Over the past decade, the grants have helped AIIB teams and clients build climate resilience, sustainability, digital innovation and institutional capacity-building into project preparation.
Seven members have contributed so far, leaving room for wider participation
Seven AIIB members have contributed or made commitments to date. Bin Wang, AIIB's Acting Director General, Operational Partnerships Department, said the Bank welcomes contributions "through financing, knowledge, experience or partnerships."
Hun Kim, AIIB Chief Partnerships Officer and Director General, Sectors, Themes and Finance Solutions Department, described members as shareholders investing in the Bank's capacity to prepare projects, not as donors and recipients.
AIIB targets new contributors ahead of its 2027 Annual Meeting in Azerbaijan
AIIB will work with existing and prospective contributors to broaden participation and turn the new commitments into continued project preparation support. Engagement will continue in the lead-up to the Bank's 2027 Annual Meeting in Azerbaijan, which the Bank describes as a further opportunity for members to contribute.
The Bank is entering its second decade and scaling up its financing. It has 111 approved members and USD100 billion in capital.
