ACA 2027 Enrollment: New Rules, Dec. 15 Deadline to Know

MIAMI – November 02, 2026 -- Open enrollment for 2027 ACA health plans started Sunday, November 1, and runs through January 15, 2027, in states that use the federal Marketplace. Shoppers who want coverage starting January 1 should enroll by December 15.

New federal rules change how you sign up

Shoppers must now approve their agent through a one-time text or email link. People new to the Marketplace may also need to verify their identity.

A repayment rule applies starting with tax year 2026. Families who receive more premium tax credit than they qualify for must repay the full difference.

Madrinas Insurance urges families to review plans instead of auto-renewing

Madrinas Insurance (Las Madrinas de los Seguros), a bilingual agency that says it has helped insure more than 2.5 million people, is urging families in Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Texas and nationwide to compare their options. CFO Vanessa Marie Vazquez advises against letting a plan auto-renew and against waiting until the last week. She says financial assistance remains available to eligible families through the Marketplace.

Medicaid is ending for some families, and ACA plans can fill the gap

Medicaid is a state and federal program with eligibility requirements, including income. ACA Marketplace plans are private health insurance, and many families qualify for financial assistance that lowers monthly costs.

Madrinas helps people whose Medicaid is ending or has ended, including pregnant women losing coverage, move to an ACA plan without a gap in care. Losing Medicaid generally opens a Special Enrollment Period, subject to eligibility requirements.

Licensed advisors can finish enrollment in 15 minutes at no cost

Families can call 855-MADRINA (855-623-7462) seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to midnight. A licensed bilingual advisor compares plans from leading carriers, explains coverage options in English or Spanish and handles the paperwork. Enrollment can take as little as 15 minutes, and the service costs nothing.

CEO Ammer Cabrera says, "A Madrina is one call away."

To prepare its advisors for the season, Madrinas held an annual convention with updates from more than a dozen carriers. They included UnitedHealthcare, Oscar, Ambetter Health, Molina Healthcare, AvMed, AmeriHealth Caritas, Harbor Health and Cigna.
