Imperial Celebrates Costa Ricans Abroad: More Than 63,000 Costa Ricans Maintain Their Connection to Costa Rica from Overseas

- Es de Ticos platform will bring a programme of cultural experiences to cities around the world, including Costa Rican dinners, piñata, traditional mascaradas and stand-up comedy, to celebrate the traditions, experiences and expressions that connect Costa Ricans with their roots.

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, Oct. 12, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Imperial, Costa Rica's beer, introduces Es de Ticos, a platform that recognizes and celebrates the cultural elements, experiences and traditions that are part of Costa Rican identity. The brand will bring activities to Toronto, Medellín and other cities with Costa Rican communities that maintain an active connection to their home country.

Activities will include Costa Rican-style dinners, piñata experiences, traditional mascaradas and stand-up comedy. Together, these experiences will create spaces for Costa Ricans abroad to reconnect with familiar traditions.

According to data from Costa Rica's Supreme Electoral Tribunal, more than 63,000 Costa Ricans were registered to vote from abroad in 2026, reflecting the presence of Costa Rican communities across countries around the world. These communities have been shaped by opportunities for education, employment and family reunification.

Data from the Central Bank of Costa Rica shows that many Costa Ricans who have settled abroad did so in pursuit of educational and/or professional opportunities. The Costa Rican community also demonstrates high levels of integration in their countries of residence.

In the United States, for example, 38% of Costa Ricans aged 25 and older hold at least a bachelor's degree, and more than half have lived in the country for over two decades, according to the Pew Research Center.

Regardless of the reasons that lead Costa Ricans to live abroad, many continue to keep their customs, traditions and ways of connecting with Costa Rica alive, creating communities and gathering spaces in different parts of the world.

Through cultural gatherings and experiences inspired by Costa Rica, the initiative will highlight the customs, traditions and expressions that remain an essential part of Costa Rican identity, no matter where people are in the world.

"Costa Ricans may build their lives in different parts of the world, but they maintain a very special connection to their traditions and roots," said Fabian Loría, Brand Manager for Imperial. "Through these activities, we want to recognise and celebrate the elements that bring us together and remain part of the Costa Rican experience, wherever we may be."

Grant funds to support the District's Regional Innovation Center

ELDRIDGE, Iowa, Oct. 12, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Water Charitable Foundation, a philanthropic nonprofit organization established by American Water (NYSE: AWK), and Iowa American Water recently announced a $10,000 Workforce Readiness grant to the North Scott Community School District's Regional Innovation Center.

"North Scott High School and its Robotics and LEGO League teams are incredibly thankful for the American Water Charitable Foundation's generosity," said Andrew Lehn, principal of North Scott High School. "The grant funding from the past two years has had a significant impact on the teams' ability to purchase necessary materials, technology and curriculum to compete at the highest level."

The 2026 grant will support hands-on STEM, robotics, engineering and career-readiness opportunities for North Scott students. Funding will provide LEGO League materials and registration fees for three elementary school programs and help advance the district's robotics program for students in grades 7–12 through tournament fees, new materials, technology upgrades, 3D-printing resources and equipment, including a planned CNC machine.

The Regional Innovation Center provides students with opportunities to develop technical, problem-solving, leadership and collaboration skills through real-world learning. Students design, manufacture and assemble custom parts; use computer-aided design programs and 3D printers; build and test robots; and share their knowledge with younger students and the broader community.

"The continuous support we've received from the American Water Charitable Foundation has allowed us to push past our limits and focus on developing and growing our program," said Josh Le, a North Scott robotics student. "The new parts, electronics and machinery will give us an even richer engineering experience, including in-house machining and manufacturing. It has opened new doors for our team and will help us bring middle school students into the program so they can learn alongside us."

Robotics Team Coach Michele Mess said the grant has generated enthusiasm and creative plans as students begin designing and testing this season's robot.

"These learning opportunities are priceless in the growth of our students' experience and can help lead them toward careers that allow them to reach their potential," Mess said. "They are eager to challenge themselves, learn to design parts using computer programs, produce those parts with 3D printers and a CNC machine, and assemble them into working robot functions. They also want to share what they learn with junior high and elementary students. We are grateful for the grant funding that helps sustain these dreams and gives students the opportunity to become amazing young engineers."

The Workforce Readiness grant is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation's Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities. This grant program focuses on general career readiness, financial and business literacy, positive youth development and life skills training.

"The American Water Charitable Foundation is proud to support initiatives that provide access to high-quality learning students need to be successful," said Carrie Williams, president of the American Water Charitable Foundation. "We take pride in supporting American Water's continued efforts to be a responsible neighbor and reliable partner in the community."

Through its partnership with the North Scott Community School District, Iowa American Water is helping connect local students with innovative workforce-development experiences that prepare them for future careers in science, technology, engineering, manufacturing and other skilled fields.

"At Iowa American Water, our commitment to the communities we serve goes beyond providing safe, clean and reliable water," said Brad Nielsen, president of Iowa American Water. "By supporting hands-on learning opportunities at the North Scott Regional Innovation Center, we are investing in the next generation and helping students build the skills, confidence and experience they need to become part of Iowa's workforce of tomorrow."

Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy, LLC to Acquire GreenAmerica Biofuels Ord LLC from Pilot Travel Centers
Image File
Original HTML

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa, Oct. 12, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy, LLC ("SIRE"), a farmer-owned ethanol producer, announced it has acquired GreenAmerica Biofuels Ord LLC, a subsidiary of Pilot Travel Centers LLC ("Pilot"). GreenAmerica Biofuels Ord LLC owns and operates an approximately 70 million-gallon-per-year ethanol plant in Ord, Nebraska.

The acquisition is a direct step in SIRE's stated growth strategy: expanding its production base, strengthening its scale, and creating new opportunities for value-added agriculture by acquiring high-quality assets with strong operating track records, reliable feedstock supply and access to diverse markets. Upon closing, SIRE's combined production capacity will grow to approximately 230 million gallons of ethanol per year across two plants in Iowa and Nebraska.

"Our strategy is simple and disciplined: grow by investing in Council Bluffs and acquiring quality assets that make SIRE stronger for our members, our farmers and our customers," said Eric Fobes, President and CEO of SIRE. "The Ord plant fits that standard. It is a well-maintained facility with an experienced team, located in the heart of one of the most productive corn regions in the country. We see it as a strong complement to our Council Bluffs operation, and we're excited to welcome the Ord employees to the SIRE team."

The Ord facility sits in central Nebraska's corn belt, giving SIRE a second origination region, added scale in marketing ethanol, distillers grains and corn oil, and greater operational diversity across its asset base. SIRE plans to retain the plant's workforce and continue local grain purchasing, maintaining the facility's role as a key market for area farmers.

The transaction closed October 9, 2026. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed and remain confidential. SIRE was advised by Omaha, NE based law firm McGrath North Mullin & Kratz PC LLO.

New survey results from Burlington Stores illustrate how Americans are redefining value and embracing the hunt for great deals ahead of the 2026 holiday season

Key Points

- A new survey from Burlington highlights how consumer shopping and purchasing sentiment remain positive despite facing nationwide economic pressure.

- Nearly 60% of shoppers expressed concern about going over budget, but dupe' products and in-person shopping are the simple yet effective ways consumers say they plan to stretch budgets across holiday spending.

- For over half of respondents (58%), the idea of shopping on a smaller holiday budget this year excites them because of the hunt for the best deals.

- For those searching for the perfect gift at the perfect price, Burlington offers merchandise up to 60% off other retailers' prices on trending styles, name brand merchandise and seasonal décor for the entire family and home.

BURLINGTON, N.J., Oct. 12, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Burlington Stores, one of the fastest-growing national off-price retailers, released today its latest consumer insights, revealing attitudes toward spending, style and savings. The survey, conducted by Wakefield Research on behalf of Burlington, offers a snapshot of how Americans say they plan to approach the 2026 holiday season as they balance gifting with spending budgets.

Shoppers Remain Generous at the Holidays

Despite economic uncertainty, holiday shopping for others remains a priority for many Americans. Most respondents (80%) expect to spend the same amount or more this year on holiday shopping compared to last; however more than half of them (58%) are concerned about going over budget. That concern is even higher among parents (69%), particularly Gen Z parents (77%).

"Shoppers are savvy, and they're strategically searching for ways to save this holiday season," said Chris Miller, executive vice president, chief marketing officer at Burlington. "Supported by our reimagined store design and consistent rotation of fresh merchandise, Burlington delivers the trending brand names on consumers' shopping lists at the prices they're hunting for."

Deal Hunting is Motivating and Exciting

With holiday purchases top of mind despite budget concerns, scoring an amazing bargain isn't just smart shopping; for some, it's a challenge they face head on. For over half of Americans (58%), the idea of shopping on a smaller holiday budget this year excites them because of the hunt for the best deals and 87% say getting a great deal is more satisfying than owning a luxury item.

Holiday shopping also begins early for U.S. shoppers. Thirty-seven percent said they plan to start holiday shopping before Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and the majority (86%) plan to begin holiday shopping beginning before December 1. It appears U.S. consumers are using a "slow-and-steady" strategy for purchasing, taking their time to decide on the perfect gift at the perfect price. With fresh merchandise arriving weekly, Burlington offers endless opportunities to discover something new and surprising.

For many Americans, in-store shopping offers unique opportunities not available online. The ability to interact with and try on items before purchasing is the leading factor (70%) for many when in-person shopping, followed by:

- Discovering unexpected finds (55%)

- The simple pleasure of getting out of the house (54%)

- Scoring a great deal (50%)

- Taking purchases home immediately without waiting for delivery (50%)

Burlington combines the unique in-person shopping experience with the thrill of discovering a surprisingly great deal at a great price. Available across the continental U.S. and Puerto Rico, all new Burlington locations feature a modernized store format with wider aisles and bold, bilingual signage, making it easier than ever for shoppers to find the brands and must-have trends they know and love. With merchandise at up to 60% off other retailers' prices on trending styles and new merchandise arriving daily for the entire family and home, every day is a new opportunity to discover the perfect gift.

The Company is a Fortune 500 company and its common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "BURL." Wakefield Research Methodology

The Burlington Survey was conducted by Wakefield Research among 2,000 nationally representative U.S. adults ages 18+, between July 24th and August 5th, 2026, using an email invitation and an online survey. The study included an oversample to increase the total number of Gen Z parents to 100. The data has been weighted to ensure representation of the U.S. adult population.

Results of any sample are subject to sampling variation. The magnitude of the variation is measurable and is affected by the number of interviews and the level of the percentages expressing the results. For this study, the margin of error is plus or minus 2.2 percentage points at the 95% confidence level for the main sample. It is higher for other subgroups, like the Gen Z parents subgroup at plus or minus 9.8 percentage points at the same confidence level.

Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs Enters U.S. Market With 400+ Machines and a Flat 5% Fee
Image File

New nationwide operator charges a fraction of the 12% to 20% typical at Bitcoin ATMs, sells Bitcoin, Ethereum and dollar-pegged stablecoins for cash, and introduces online pre-registration that cuts a first visit to about two minutes

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 12, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Americans who buy cryptocurrency with cash routinely pay 12% to 15% in fees at Bitcoin ATMs, and 20% or more at some of the largest national operators. Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs, a new nationwide operator, today announced the launch of its first 400-plus machines across the United States with a flat 5% fee on every purchase, a network size that makes the company one of the largest Bitcoin ATM operators in the country at launch.

The machines, installed in convenience stores, gas stations and shopping centers in Florida, California, Arizona, Texas and other states, allow customers to buy Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and the dollar-pegged stablecoinsTether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC) with cash. The fee and exchange rate appear on screen before a customer confirms a purchase, and purchased funds are sent directly to the customer's own digital wallet; the company never holds them. Starting today, first-time customers can also complete their identity verification online in advance, reducing the first visit to a machine to about two minutes.

"Bitcoin ATMs have become one of the most expensive ways to buy anything, and the cost is often buried in the exchange rate rather than shown as a fee," said Quincy Mathis, Operations Manager of Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs. "We are launching with more than 400 machines and one fee, displayed on screen before a customer inserts a single dollar. The name is not subtle. That is deliberate."

On a $1,000 cash purchase, the gap between operators is easy to see:

- At a 5% fee, the customer pays $50 and receives $950 in cryptocurrency.

- At the industry's typical 12% to 15%, the customer pays $120 to $150 and receives $850 to $880.

- At a 20% fee, the customer pays $200 and receives $800.

The comparison reflects posted percentage fees before exchange rates and is based on publicly reported U.S. Bitcoin ATM fee ranges. A number of operators apply an additional markup within the exchange rate; Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs displays both the fee and the rate on screen before every transaction.

A lower-cost way to send money abroad

The company reports that a growing share of its transactions involve stablecoins, digital tokens pegged one-to-one to the U.S. dollar, which customers use to send money to relatives overseas and, increasingly, which small businesses use to pay suppliers and contractors abroad. A customer inserts cash at the machine, and the recipient receives dollar-pegged funds in their own wallet within minutes, to hold or convert to local currency. No bank account is required to send.

For a customer sending $1,000 a month, annual fees come to about $600 at 5%, roughly $1,440 to $1,800 at typical Bitcoin ATM rates, and $2,400 at 20%.

"Families sending money home are the most price-sensitive customers in this market, and they have been paying its highest rates," said Quincy Mathis. "A 5% fee on a stablecoin transfer that arrives in minutes is a different proposition from what they have been offered."

Limits, verification and how a purchase works

Purchase limits are tiered by verification level. Customers who verify with a phone number can buy up to $2,000 per day. Customers who verify with a government-issued ID and Tax ID can buy up to $50,000 per day.

A purchase takes four steps:

- Verify, online in advance or at the machine.

- Select a cryptocurrency and scan the QR code of your digital wallet.

- Insert cash. The running total appears on screen as bills are fed in.

- Review the fee and exchange rate, then confirm. Funds arrive in the wallet within minutes.

With the new online pre-registration, customers who have verified in advance simply enter their phone number at the machine. Pre-registration and a machine locator are available at lowestfeebitcoinatms.com.

Consumer protection and compliance

Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs is registered with the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as a money services business, and its machines operate in compliance with federal and state regulations. Customer data is encrypted. Because cryptocurrency transactions cannot be reversed, the company urges consumers to treat any request to pay a government agency, bank, utility, employer or technical-support representative through a Bitcoin ATM as a scam and to walk away.

Availability

Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs are operating now at more than 400 locations, with additional phases of the rollout planned. Consumers can find the nearest machine on the company's website. New customers may enter promotional code LOWEST at the machine for 20% off the transaction fee.

Afreximbank Barbados Country Brief spotlights market's economic resilience and reform-driven path for growth

Growth is forecast at 1.9% in 2026 and 2.3% in 2027, supported by resilient tourism inflows, a strong pipeline of investment projects and targeted government support for households and businesses

CAIRO, Oct. 12, 2026 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ -- African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) (www.Afreximbank.com) has released its latest Barbados Country brief, offering a comprehensive and timely analysis of the island nation's macroeconomic outlook. The brief explores key regional and international trade dynamics, financial sector developments and debt sustainability trends.

The brief highlights that Barbados has exhibited resilient growth following the Covid-19 pandemic, with GDP growth averaging 5.6% between 2021 and 2026, driven by a robust resurgence in tourism. Growth is forecast at 1.9% in 2026 and 2.3% in 2027, supported by resilient tourism inflows, a strong pipeline of investment projects and targeted government support for households and businesses.

Central to this transformation is Barbados' IMF-backed Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation (BERT) programme. The brief notes that the original BERT programme concluded successfully in 2025, with the IMF Executive Board approving a new 36-month precautionary Stand-By Arrangement of USD257 million in June 2026 to support the next phase of structural reform. This reflects the international community's confidence in Barbados' policy track record and the market's commitment to building a resilient and diversified economy.

This brief edition also explores the high-income island nation's impressive fiscal consolidation. Public debt has declined from 104.1% of GDP at end-FY2023/24 to 96% of GDP at end-March 2026, backed by a primary fiscal surplus of 4.2% of GDP in FY2025/26. The government's medium-term framework targets sustained primary surpluses of 3.5% of GDP, placing public debt on a firm trajectory towards the 60% of GDP anchor by FY2035/36. The IMF assesses the overall risk of sovereign stress as moderate, reflecting Barbados' strong and consistent policy track record.

On trade, the brief points to a steadily strengthening external position. Total goods and services trade grew from USD4.1 billion in 2018 to USD5.5 billion in 2024, with further expansion to USD6.3 billion projected in 2026. Barbados' services balance remains a key pillar of strength, underpinned by tourism inflows that grew 3.7% in the first quarter of 2026, bolstered by a 30% year-on-year jump in cruise ship arrivals.

The brief further highlights developments within Barbados' deep and diversified financial sector. In June 2026, the Central Bank of Barbados launched BiMPay, a national instant payment system enabling round-the-clock settlements and broadening financial inclusion. This represents the latest in a series of measures to strengthen the efficiency and resilience of the country's financial infrastructure.

Commenting on the brief, Dr Yemi Kale, Afreximbank's Group Chief Economist and Managing Director, Research and Trade Intelligence, noted: "The findings highlight Barbados as a dynamic, reform-driven economy whose resilient fundamentals, stable governance and deepening regional ties position it as an increasingly compelling partner for trade finance and development cooperation across the Caribbean."
