Einstieg in biobasierte Pulverlacke/"Meisterstücke des Mittelstands" - DBU fördert Projekt

Bereits die Anfänge der Deutschen Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) vor nunmehr 35 Jahren sind eng mit Projektförderungen in den ostdeutschen, damals "neuen" Bundesländern verbunden - für mehr Klima- und Umweltschutz im Einsatz gegen den menschengemachten Klimawandel. In lockerer Reihenfolge stellt die DBU verschiedene wegweisende seitens der Stiftung geförderte Vorhaben in den fünf Bundesländern vor. Den Start machen Sachsen-Anhalt - und heute mittelständische Betriebe, die für den Riesenmarkt der Pulverlacke wegweisende Lösungen entwickeln, um fossile durch biobasierte Rohstoffe zu ersetzen. Das Vorhaben wird mit rund 370.000 Euro von der DBU unterstützt. "Dieses und andere in Sachsen-Anhalt von der DBU geförderten Projekte sind echte Meisterstücke des Mittelstands. Sie zeigen vorbildlich, wie Wirtschaft und Umweltschutz sich gegenseitig voranbringen", so DBU-Generalsekretär Alexander Bonde.

Bonde: Türöffner für bislang unbekannte Produktionsprozesse

Das Projekt "EcoCoat - nachhaltige Pulverlacke für industrielle Anwendungen" könne für die gesamte Branche und besonders für die kleineren mittelständischen Firmen "ein Türöffner für bislang unbekannte Produktionsprozesse" werden. Bonde: "Denn zum ersten Mal ist im Zuge des Projekts der Einstieg in biobasierte Pulverlackrezepturen gelungen." Der DBU-Generalsekretär erinnerte in diesem Zusammenhang an die Entwicklung der DBU-Fördertätigkeit in den ostdeutschen Bundesländern. Ging es nach der Gründung der Deutschen Bundesstiftung Umwelt in den ersten Jahren zunächst vor allem um Akuthilfe und Beseitigung von Umweltschäden, sei mittlerweile ein anderes Leitbild maßgeblich. Bonde: "Heute gilt es, wegen der Klima- und Umweltschutzziele Energie und Rohstoffe effizienter zu nutzen. Der Mittelstand in Sachsen-Anhalt macht vor, wie Ökonomie und Ökologie Hand in Hand den menschengemachten Klimawandel eindämmen können."

Beschichtungspulver für Türen-, Fenster- und Fassadenbau - und sogar für E-Gitarren

Dazu passt das Projekt mit den Pulverlacken. Darunter versteht man Beschichtungspulver zum Schutz und zur Veredlung metallischer Oberflächen in zahlreichen Industriezweigen, darunter Türen-, Maschinen-, Fenster- und Fassadenbau, Automobil- und Möbelindustrie, Architektur sowie Haushaltsgeräte, etwa Waschmaschinen. Und neben Zäunen und Geländern sogar E-Gitarren. Der Markt ist riesig. Die Pulverlacke sind zwar lösemittelfrei herzustellen und zu applizieren. Einen Haken gibt es bisher gleichwohl: Deren Rezepturen, im Fachjargon auch "Formulierungen" genannt, basieren fast ausschließlich auf fossilem Erdöl. Das gilt besonders für die Bindemittel, die - neben Füllstoffen, Pigmenten und Additiven - zu den wesentlichen Bestandteilen eines Pulverlacks zählen. Das Produktionsvolumen bei Pulverlacken liegt allein in Europa bei rund 450.000 Tonnen pro Jahr. Laut Verband der deutschen Lack- und Druckfarbenindustrie (VdL) machen Pulverlacke ungefähr zwölf Prozent des Gesamtumsatzes der Industrielack-Branche aus. Nach Industrieangaben lag 2025 weltweit die Marktgröße für Pulverbeschichtungen bei umgerechnet 14 Milliarden Euro. Schätzungen zufolge wird dieser Markt bis 2034 auf umgerechnet etwa 23,7 Milliarden Euro anwachsen, wobei insbesondere der asiatisch-pazifische Raum Wachstumstreiber ist. Dazu Bonde: "Es gibt also ein enormes Potenzial für innovative Lösungen zur Reduzierung von Treibhausgas-Emissionen, Energiekosten und Rohstoffverbrauch."

Bender: Pulverlacke sind auch weitgehend ohne fossile Rohstoffe herzustellen

Genau dieser Nachweis sei "im tollen Projekt" gelungen, sagt Ingenieurin Dr. Susanne Bender. Sie ist Geschäftsführerin des iLF Magdeburg GmbH als Teil eines für das Projekt zuständigen Konsortiums. Das iLF gilt als international anerkannter Prüfdienstleister mit eigenen Forschungsaktivitäten in der Oberflächentechnik. Mit dabei waren außerdem die Ganzlin Beschichtungspulver GmbH - ein Betrieb mit rund 70 Beschäftigten, der Pulverlacke herstellt - sowie die Core Facility Microscopy and Materials Analysis (CMMA) der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg. iLF-Geschäftsführerin Bender: "Die Projektergebnisse zeigen grundsätzlich die technische Machbarkeit, Pulverlacke auch weitgehend ohne fossile Rohstoffe herzustellen." Besonders interessant sei "die Kombination aus nachhaltigeren Rohstoffen und niedrigerer Einbrenntemperatur". Nach ihren Worten ist es im Zuge des Forschungsvorhabens gelungen, "diese Einbrenntemperatur von etwa 200 auf 160 Grad Celsius zu minimieren" - mit sehenswertem Effekt: Es konnte rund ein Drittel an Energie und entsprechenden Kosten eingespart werden. Hinzu kommt der ökologische Effekt: Durch den Einsatz biobasierter Bindemittel wie Bioharz und recyceltem PET sind Emissionen klimaschädlicher Treibhausgase wie Kohlendioxid (CO2) erheblich gesenkt worden, so Bender. Auch die Verwendung von Ruß, Chlorophylin, Lignin und Indigo als Pigmente trage dazu bei. Bender: "Der CO2-Fußabdruck konnte um mehr als 70 Prozent reduziert werden."

DBU-Tochter sichert Naturerbeflächen in ostdeutschen Bundesländern

Neben der DBU-Projektförderung profitiert Sachsen-Anhalt von der Arbeit des DBU Naturerbes, einer gemeinnützigen Stiftungstochter. Sie kümmert sich allein in diesem Bundesland um zehn Flächen des Nationalen Naturerbes mit rund 11.100 Hektar, darunter etwa die Ringfurther Elbauen sowie die Oranienbaumer Heide im Landkreis Dessau-Roßlau. Die Ziele: Wiesen, Heiden und andere offene Lebensräume durch Pflege bewahren, strukturarme Forste zu naturnahen Wäldern umwandeln und der natürlichen Entwicklung überlassen sowie Feuchtgebiete und Gewässer erhalten und ökologisch aufwerten.

Using an engine cut-off switch is a proven lifesaving device that can help change these statistics.

Paddlers also need to exercise caution this weekend. According to the same statistics, paddlecraft deaths increased in 2024, including canoes (4.5%), kayaks (16%), and standup paddleboards (5%).

Boating under the influence is the leading contributing factor in recreational boater deaths. Boating can magnify the side effects of alcohol use, including impaired judgment, reduced balance, and poor coordination. Never boat under the influence, and always designate a sober skipper.

- File a float plan: Always let someone on shore know the trip itinerary, including operator and passenger information, boat type and registration, and communication equipment on board.

- Watch the weather: Always check the forecast before departing on the water and frequently during the excursion. Follow local weather advisories.

- Be aware of your surroundings: Improper lookout is one of the top five contributing factors in boating incidents.

- Know where you're going and travel at safe speeds: Be familiar with the area, local boating speed zones, and always travel at a safe speed.

- Keep in touch: Have more than one communication device that works when wet. VHF radios, emergency locator beacons, satellite phones, and cell phones with GPS technology can all be important devices in an emergency.

Dubai's Newest Skyscraper Features (Very) Elevated Living and Penetron Waterproofing

The 350-m tall Al Habtoor Tower, the latest architectural highlight in Dubai, was inaugurated in September 2026. For one of the world's tallest residential skyscrapers, the builders specified PENETRON ADMIX, a crystalline waterproofing admixture, to ensure the durability of the building's below-grade concrete structures.

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 4, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Situated on the Dubai Water Canal in Al Habtoor City with a height of 350-m (1,155-feet), the Al Habtoor Tower is one of the world's tallest residential buildings. The skyscraper features three below-grade basement floors, a ground floor, and 85 residential floors, for a total built-up area of over 25,000 m2 (>274,000 ft2).

Housed on 85 floors, the Al Habtoor Tower's 1,740 luxury apartments are available as one- (78-141-m2), two- (118-192-m2) and three-bedroom (162-229-m2) apartments. The largest and most luxurious units, the Ultra Residences and Sky Villas, occupy the top six floors. The tower features 24 high-speed elevators, the world's fastest, capable of traveling at 7 meters per second.

At the beginning of construction, MAK Engineering, the project engineering consultants, and the China Railway 18th Bureau Group, the general contractor, had the option of demolishing the basement. Instead, a top-down approach was used to pile down through the basement, utilizing 100-m deep Barette foundations, i.e. excavated rectangular piles as load-bearing elements used to resist large vertical and horizontal loads, while at the same time starting construction above ground. They set unprecedented benchmarks with six-day floor cycle times for construction of the above ground floors. Within just eight months, the team completed approximately six kilometers of Barrettes (90m deep shear walls) and one kilometer of circular piles.

"Due to the depth of the below-grade structures and the resulting groundwater pressure, a reliable concrete waterproofing solution was required to protect the massive tower's new below-grade structures," adds Sam Annous.
