Johannes B. Kerner, bereits beim 4.

Fill the Gap: More Affordable Homes on the Way for Stanislaus County Residents thanks to Health Net's $2 Million Investment

The investment will help advance shovel-ready housing projects, bringing safe, stable housing within reach for more local families.

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Net, one of California's most experienced Medi-Cal managed care health plans and company of Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC), today announced a $2 million investment in Stanislaus Equity Partners, Inc. (STEP) to help more residents access safe, stable, affordable housing. The multi-year grant will provide flexible gap financing for 50 affordable housing projects already in the local pipeline, helping move shovel-ready developments closer to completion.

STEP will use the grant to support affordable housing projects across Stanislaus County, prioritizing developments that are ready to move forward but face funding shortfalls. By filling these gaps, the investment aims to unlock additional public and private resources, helping bring more affordable units online faster and strengthen housing stability in the region.

"Stable housing is inseparable from good health," said Dorothy Seleski, Medi-Cal Plan President at Health Net. "When families have a safe and affordable place to call home, they have a stronger foundation for their health, their future and their ability to thrive. By partnering with Stanislaus Equity Partners, we're helping to fill the funding gap, create pathways to safe, affordable housing—so individuals and families can thrive, not just survive."

Recognizing that access to safe, affordable housing is foundational to long-term health and well-being. Stanislaus Equity Partners will deploy the funding through grants, forgivable loans and low-interest loans. These flexible financing tools will accelerate affordable housing development and help reduce displacement risks for Stanislaus County residents.

"Stanislaus County has experienced the real and lasting impacts of California's housing crisis," said Jessica Filbrun, CEO of Stanislaus Equity Partners. "This investment from Health Net is a powerful example of how the health care sector can be a partner in building healthier communities. By supporting affordable housing, we're investing in the well-being of working families, seniors, and vulnerable neighbors throughout our county."

According to the California Housing Partnership, more than 12,700 low-income households in Stanislaus County do not have access to an affordable home, and 81% of extremely low-income households spend more than half of their income on housing costs, placing them at severe risk of housing instability and homelessness.

"Stanislaus County has experienced the real and lasting impacts of California's housing crisis," said Assemblymember Juan Alanis. "This investment from Health Net is a powerful example of how the health care sector can be a partner in building healthier communities. By supporting affordable housing, we're investing in the well-being of working families, seniors, and vulnerable neighbors throughout our county."

This investment builds on Health Net's broader commitment to supporting the conditions people need to live healthier lives, including access to stable housing and essential community resources. Through strategic investments and trusted local partnerships, Health Net continues working to help California communities become stronger, healthier and more resilient.

Woodpack Global Launches Crate Design System

The Solution Ushers in a New Era of Wooden Crate Design

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Woodpack Global today announced the launch of Crate Design System™ (CDS), a new software tool built to support the design of wooden crates and industrial wood packaging.

Wooden crates play a key role in global commerce, from export packaging to heavy equipment enclosures, but much of the foundational research on crate design dates back to the 1960s. Many professionals in the space have had to rely on outdated methods and tools that weren't built specifically for this work. CDS is a first step toward a more modern, purpose-built option for the industry.

"The wooden crate design space has been underserved for a long time," said Kristen DeLack, PE, PDS Principal Engineer & Strategic Business Advisor, Woodpack Global. "This first release of CDS is just the beginning, and it was shaped by feedback from professionals who work with these structures every day."

CDS draws on the foundation of Woodpack Global's Pallet Design System™ (PDS), adapting some of its core approaches to fastener behavior, wood properties, and structural performance for crate applications. This initial release supports sheathed and cleated crates and solid wood boxes, with future versions planned to add more crate styles, additional tools, CAD integration, and support for other wood packaging formats.

"CDS has been a great addition to our design process," said Jon Farinha of Girard Wood Products, Inc. "The ability to quickly create detailed crate designs and show customers 3D and exploded views has made it much easier to communicate our designs, while also helping us identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs."

"We're excited to add the Crate Design System to our suite of wood packaging software solutions," added Brent McClendon, President & CEO, Woodpack Global. "This is an early but meaningful step in extending our software work to a segment of the industry that hasn't had many dedicated tools. We're looking forward to building this out further alongside the members and businesses who'll be using it."

Woodpack Global's Crate Design System is available now. Learn more and request a personalized demo at woodpackglobal.org/cratedesign .

Tampa General Ranks No. 20 on Fast Company's Eighth Annual List of the Best Workplaces for Innovators
Image File

The academic health system is recognized among 100 organizations representing several industry verticals for empowering team members to challenge the status quo and turn ideas into meaningful solutions.

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Tampa General Hospital (TGH) ranked No. 20 on Fast Company's eighth annual Best Workplaces for Innovators list, recognizing the academic health system's commitment to creating a culture where team members at every level are empowered to challenge convention, solve problems and turn ideas into action.

The 2026 Best Workplaces for Innovators list recognizes 100 companies across industries such as entertainment, biotech, consumer packaged goods, marketing, education and healthcare. To be considered, applicants detailed their investment in innovation, internal programs and company culture. Fast Company's editors evaluated each application and conducted extensive research to develop a score for each company. A distinguished panel of judges then reviewed the top-rated companies to determine the final honorees.

"At Tampa General, we believe that if we want to fundamentally transform healthcare, we have to be willing to challenge the status quo — and that starts by creating a culture where our team members feel empowered to ask questions, think differently and act on their ideas to drive change," said John Couris, president and CEO of Florida Health Sciences Center | Tampa General. "The people closest to our patients and our operations often see opportunities that others don't. Our responsibility as leaders is to listen, give them the tools and support to experiment and then move quickly to scale what works. This recognition belongs to our entire team and reflects the culture of curiosity, courage and continuous improvement they bring to Tampa General every day."

That philosophy is demonstrated through TGH Innovation Week, a systemwide initiative launched in 2024 to accelerate new ideas and turn them into action. More than 5,400 team members and leaders and nearly 350 physicians participated in the 2026 Innovation Week – with an additional 1,066 virtual attendees – which featured workshops, technology demonstrations and a Shark Tank-style Pitch Competition that gives team members across roles and disciplines a platform to present solutions to Tampa General leaders, board members and industry experts.

More than 50 ideas were submitted for this year's competition. Among them was Fast Track, developed by five infusion nurses who identified a challenge affecting patients receiving short-duration treatments. Patients needing infusions lasting 30 minutes or less competed for the same space and resources as those requiring treatments lasting several hours, contributing to waits of two to four hours for what should have been brief visits.

The nurses proposed a dedicated Fast Track area for short-duration infusions. After months of testing, the model reduced average wait times to approximately 14 minutes while increasing capacity to serve patients. As the winning team, the nurses received a $50,000 commitment from Tampa General to implement their idea. Tampa General also pledged funding to advance each finalist idea presented during the competition.

Tampa General supports ideas like these with an innovation ecosystem designed to move promising solutions from concept to implementation. In 2021, the academic health system launched TGH Ventures, its corporate venture capital arm and dedicated innovation team. Earlier this year, Tampa General expanded the TGH Ventures fund from $10 million to

$25 million, broadening its investment strategy beyond health technology to include medical devices. Its portfolio now includes 14 companies focused on solutions that can streamline access to care, lower costs, optimize care delivery and improve patient, provider and team member experience.

This year, Tampa General further expanded its innovation infrastructure with the opening of a new 32,000-square-foot Innovation Center in Ybor City. The center brings together Tampa General's innovation team, TGH Ventures, analytics and information technology teams, the Tampa Medical & Research District headquarters and Palantir's Tampa headquarters, creating a collaborative environment to test, refine and scale new solutions.

"Innovation has to go beyond a great idea to solve a real problem and create meaningful value for our patients, providers and team members," said Scott Arnold, executive vice president and chief digital and innovation officer at Tampa General. "We've intentionally built an ecosystem that combines the insight of our front-line teams with technology, data, strategic partnerships and investment so we can rapidly test promising ideas, learn from them and scale the solutions that work. When you give talented people the right tools, resources and permission to rethink what's possible, you can fundamentally change how healthcare is delivered."

Technology and artificial intelligence are another component of that strategy. Through its partnership with Palantir, Tampa General has deployed AI-enabled predictive analytics that have helped reduce sepsis mortality across the health system by more than half. Agentic AI assistants deployed in Tampa General call centers have also answered more than 2 million calls since September 2025, increasing appointment capacity by 21% and reducing call wait times by 58%.

Underpinning these investments is a workplace culture designed to give team members the psychological safety to question established practices, try new approaches and learn from the results. All Tampa General leaders are trained in the organization's proprietary AKTiVe leadership model, which emphasizes authenticity, kindness, transparency and vulnerability. Over the last five years, Tampa General has maintained team member engagement scores within the top quartile of all academic health systems nationally, according to Press Ganey.

Tampa General and fellow 2026 Best Workplaces for Innovators honorees will be celebrated at Fast Company's Best Workplaces for Innovators Cocktail Reception on Sept. 16 in New York City as part of the Fast Company Innovation Festival.

Fast Company is a leading media outlet dedicated to the vital intersection of business, innovation and design, engaging the most influential leaders, companies, and thinkers on the future of business. Headquartered in New York City, Fast Company is published by Mansueto Ventures LLC, along with fellow business publication Inc.

Tampa General is profiled alongside the full list of 2026 Best Workplaces for Innovators honorees at https://www.fastcompany.com/best-workplaces-for-innovators/list. The Fast Company Best Workplaces for Innovators Issue (Fall 2027) is available online now and will hit newsstands on Sept. 22.

Life Coach Expert Germaine Swanson of Taylor, MI, Discusses Why ADHD Feels Different for Women Over 40 in HelloNation

The article explains how hormonal changes, increasing life demands, and shifts in executive function can affect women with ADHD during midlife and how coaching can provide practical support.

TAYLOR, Mich., Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Why does ADHD seem to change for women after age 40? That question is at the center of a HelloNation article featuring insights from Life Coach Expert Germaine Swanson of G Swanson ADHD & Life Coach in Taylor, MI. The article explores how hormonal changes, increased life demands, and shifting executive function affect women during midlife and what support can help.

According to the HelloNation article, ADHD in women is often misunderstood or overlooked, especially after age 40. While symptoms may have existed for years, they can shift or intensify during midlife. This phase often brings new stressors, such as caregiving for both children and aging parents, while career responsibilities continue to grow. These combined pressures can make executive function more difficult to manage and leave many women feeling overwhelmed.

The article highlights the connection between hormonal changes and ADHD symptoms. Estrogen, which plays a role in dopamine regulation, begins to fluctuate during perimenopause and menopause. As the article explains, these hormonal shifts can make it harder to manage mood, focus, and energy. For women over 40 with ADHD, the result is often a noticeable change in how well they can regulate attention, motivation, and emotions.

Executive function is a key focus of the article. Skills like planning, organization, and task initiation are often stretched thin during midlife. The article notes that many women in this stage begin to experience more forgetfulness, emotional reactivity, and difficulty following through. These changes are not signs of failure, the article explains, but reflections of evolving brain and body needs.

The HelloNation article points out that many women developed coping mechanisms earlier in life that may no longer work. Some relied on structure, people-pleasing, or perfectionism to stay afloat. In midlife, those approaches often become unsustainable. That's where ADHD coaching becomes helpful; it offers support that meets women where they are now, not where they used to be.

The article emphasizes how ADHD coaching supports women over 40 by helping them rebuild realistic systems for daily life. This includes adjusting routines, redefining priorities, and building flexibility into structure. The coaching process recognizes that energy and focus fluctuate, and so strategies must adjust accordingly. For many, this approach provides clarity and relief.

Focus, one of the most common concerns for women with midlife ADHD, is another area the article explores. Tasks that once felt manageable may now seem draining or overwhelming. ADHD coaching helps identify the sources of distraction and creates environments that preserve attention. Small shifts in habits or surroundings can help conserve mental energy throughout the day.

Emotional regulation also tends to change during this phase. The article describes how hormonal changes and ongoing stress can lead to stronger emotional responses, such as frustration or sensitivity. Rather than blaming these reactions, ADHD coaching offers tools to manage them constructively and compassionately.

The HelloNation article explains that structure remains important for women over 40, but it must be adaptable. Rigid schedules often fall apart when energy drops. ADHD coaching helps women design a structure that bends without breaking, supporting long-term consistency instead of short-term perfection.

As women move through this process, the article notes, their view of success often changes. Productivity becomes less about volume and more about intention. ADHD coaching supports this mindset shift by helping women align goals with what matters most in their current season of life. This reduces burnout and builds a sense of purpose.

In time, many women regain confidence and control. With realistic expectations and supportive tools, executive function improves. The HelloNation article emphasizes that ADHD in women over 40 may feel different, but with the right strategies, progress is possible and sustainable.

Why ADHD Feels Different for Women Over 40, and What You Can Do About It features insights from Germaine Swanson, Life Coach Expert of Taylor, MI, in HelloNation.

25 Years After 9/11, More FDNY Members Have Died from World Trade Center Illnesses Than Were Killed That Day.

The Firefighter Cancer Support Network launches national campaign to write the first cancer screening recommendations for firefighters

WASHINGTON, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- As the country prepares to mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, the Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN) has launched The Sacrifice Didn't End on 9/11, a national campaign about the occupational cancer crisis following the attacks. The FCSN is writing the first national cancer screening recommendations built specifically for firefighters to be launched in 2027.

The campaign launches amid renewed national attention to 9/11's health legacy. Former Governor George Pataki disclosed this week that he has a 9/11-related lung disease, and newly released records show officials knew the air around Ground Zero was unsafe even as they publicly assured responders and residents it was safe.

More than 400 FDNY members have died from World Trade Center-related illnesses in the 25 years since September 11, surpassing the 343 killed that day. And the death toll has not stayed at Ground Zero: cancer is now the leading cause of line-of-duty death for firefighters across the country.

"The sacrifice didn't end on September 11," said Lisa Raggio, Chief Executive Officer of the Firefighter Cancer Support Network. "Twenty-five years later, we are still counting the toll of that day — and firefighters across the country continue to walk into the same category of exposure on every fireground. The country has never had a set of cancer screening recommendations built for the job firefighters do. We are changing that."

The Scale of the Health Crisis

- On 9/11 the FDNY lost 343 firefighters who risked their lives on the front lines. In the years since, more than 400 additional FDNY members have died from World Trade Center related illnesses – a death toll that now exceeds the number of firefighters lost on the day of the attacks.

- Nearly 10,000 lives have been lost from 9/11-related illnesses in the 25 years since September 11. A staggering 5,892 first responders and people who lived and worked near Ground Zero have died from cancer caused by the toxic air, according to the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund.

- As of June 30, 2026, the World Trade Center Health Program was caring for 145,275 first responders and survivors. Over the lifetime of the program, 57,044 members have had a cancer certified as a WTC-related health condition.

The National Initiative for Firefighter Cancer Screening Recommendations

The National Initiative for Firefighter Cancer Screening Recommendations is a first-of-its-kind effort to develop evidence-based, firefighter-specific cancer screening recommendations designed to improve early detection and save lives.

Research has long shown firefighters face significantly higher cancer risks from repeated occupational exposure. Yet no national cancer screening recommendations have ever been built for the fire service, existing ones are designed for the general population.

Led by FCSN, the national initiative brings together leading experts in oncology, occupational medicine, epidemiology, firefighter health, and the fire service to develop scientifically rigorous recommendations that can ultimately improve cancer detection, survivorship, and long-term firefighter health.

Following completion of the scientific review and consensus development process, FCSN plans to begin rolling out the National Firefighter Cancer Screening Recommendations in 2027.

"Our role is to be the catalyst," said Russ Osgood, Chief Education Officer at FCSN. "We aim to bring the science, the medicine, and the fire service to the same table, and to build cancer screening recommendations that are rigorous, practical, and worthy of the people they're meant to protect."

"We wear our PPE to protect ourselves on the fireground," said Kevin D. Quinn, retired Deputy Chief in his 51st year in the fire service, who had three cancers found at a free screening in April 2025 and removed with clear margins in January 2026. "Annual cancer screenings are the PPE that protect us after we have signed back into quarters."

The Campaign

The Sacrifice Didn't End on 9/11 runs through all of September. Because for firefighters, the health legacy of that day is not a single anniversary. It is an ongoing crisis, and one FCSN is working to address. FCSN leadership, fire service cancer survivors, and 9/11 responders are available for interviews throughout the month.
