New Institute aims to accelerate national healthcare transformation through education, research, advocacy, standards, and clinical care

WHITTIER, Calif., Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) today announced the appointment of Russell Greenfield, MD, as Founding Executive Director of its new Institute for the Advancement of Whole Health, an initiative dedicated to accelerating the nation's adoption of a more effective and person-centered approach to healthcare.

The Institute was created in response to a healthcare system facing persistent challenges—from rising costs and fragmented care to poor outcomes and widespread dissatisfaction among patients and clinicians. Its aim is to help advance a different model: one that moves beyond strictly treating symptoms and disease to addressing all aspects of well-being—physical, emotional, social, and beyond.

"The healthcare system doesn't need incremental improvement—it needs transformation," said John Scaringe, DC, EdD, President and CEO of SCU. "We created the Institute to help accelerate that transformation by aligning research, training, clinical care, and advocacy around a shared vision for Whole Health. Russ has spent decades advancing this work, and he brings the experience, credibility, and relationships to help us move it forward on a national scale."

"Whole Health has reached an important inflection point," said Greenfield. "We have strong models, growing evidence, and increasing recognition that healthcare must address the whole person. Now is the time to build on that progress and accelerate change at scale, and I'm excited to help lead that work."

The Institute is designed to serve as a unifying force across a fragmented healthcare landscape—training healthcare providers and leaders, expanding the evidence base for Whole Health, developing education and practice standards, advancing new models of clinical care, and convening researchers, clinicians, educators, policymakers, and other leaders around a shared vision for change.

The work builds upon a growing national movement toward Whole Health—and an approach increasingly demonstrated to work in practice. The Veterans Health Administration has implemented Whole Health as a systemwide approach to care, and the National Academies has identified Whole Health as a model for transforming healthcare nationally. SCU established the Institute to help accelerate that momentum and advance Whole Health from promising models to broader adoption across healthcare.

Greenfield brings decades of experience as a physician executive, educator, clinician, and nationally recognized leader in integrative medicine and Whole Health. Most recently, he served as a Senior Physician Consultant within the Veterans Health Administration's Office of Patient Centered Care & Cultural Transformation, where he contributed to the education, implementation, and scaling of Whole Health principles across the VA.

Greenfield has also founded and led integrative medicine programs within major health systems, including Novant Health and what is now Atrium Health; served in clinical academic roles at the University of North Carolina and University of Arizona; and contributed extensively to research, education, publishing, and national thought leadership in integrative and Whole Health. He has also served as an affiliate faculty member in the University's groundbreaking Doctor of Whole Health Leadership program.

"Whole Health asks us to think differently about what healthcare is ultimately meant to accomplish," said Greenfield. "It's not simply about treating disease—it's about empowering people to lead full and meaningful lives. We have an extraordinary opportunity through this Institute to unite the people, evidence, and innovation to help make that approach the norm rather than the exception."

As Founding Executive Director, Greenfield will lead the development of the Institute's long-term strategy; advance education and research; build national partnerships; pursue philanthropic and grant support; help establish standards and competencies for Whole Health; and expand the Institute's visibility and impact.

Xylo Bio Achieves Clinical-Stage Milestone with XYL-1001, a Highly Selective Neuroplastogen Targeting Major Depressive Disorder

BOSTON, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Xylo Bio, a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing novel neurotherapeutics for psychiatric and neurological disorders, today announced the first participants dosed in its Phase 1 clinical study of XYL-1001, a novel, selective 5-HT2A agonist being developed for major depressive disorder (MDD).

The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 1 study is being conducted in Australia and is designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamic activity of XYL-1001 across single ascending dose (SAD) and multiple ascending dose (MAD) cohorts in healthy volunteers. The study incorporates several translational biomarkers developed to characterize pharmacodynamic engagement and support future clinical development decisions.

"Major depressive disorder remains one of the most difficult conditions to treat, and too many patients have exhausted existing options without relief," said Dr. Gabriel Vargas, MD, PhD, Chief Clinical Advisor at Xylo Bio. "This Phase 1 study is designed to rigorously characterize XYL-1001's safety and pharmacology from the outset, giving us the foundation we need to move quickly and responsibly toward patients who need alternatives."

XYL-1001 is designed to be non-hallucinogenic and is, to the Company's knowledge, the most selective 5-HT2A receptor agonist in that category. The milestone marks the Company's transition to a clinical-stage organization. Xylo Bio is highlighting the program this week at the 9th Neuropsychiatric Drug Development Summit in Boston (Sept 15–17), where Dr. Samuel Banister, CSO and co-founder, is speaking.

"Dosing our first participants is a meaningful inflection point for Xylo Bio," said Dr. Banister. "Our mission is to unlock the therapeutic potential of the 5-HT2A receptor without the hallucinogenic burden and supervised dosing that limits who can access these treatments. This trial brings us one step closer to delivering on that mission."

About XYL-1001

XYL-1001 is, to the Company's knowledge, the most advanced selective 5-HT2A receptor agonist in clinical development today. The candidate is designed to activate the 5-HT2A receptor without producing hallucinogenic or other unwanted effects, an approach intended to retain therapeutic potential while avoiding the medical supervision and site-of-care requirements associated with psychedelic-based treatments. XYL-1001 has demonstrated 5-HT2A-dependent neuroplastic effects and efficacy in preclinical models of anxiety and depressive-like behaviors, without producing signs of hallucinogenic-related behavior. XYL-1001 is an investigational product and has not been approved by any regulatory authority for use.

About Major Depressive Disorder

Depressive disorders affect an estimated 332 million people worldwide, according to the World Health Organization, and remain among the leading causes of disability globally. Despite the availability of numerous approved antidepressants, up to one-third of patients fail to achieve adequate response after two or more treatment attempts, and existing therapies have delayed onset and undesirable side effects. This persistent treatment gap has driven a wave of drug development activity aimed at novel mechanisms of action, including rapid-acting and disease-modifying approaches, that can deliver faster, more durable relief with improved safety profiles for patients with inadequately treated depression.

About Xylo Bio

Xylo Bio (Psylo, Inc., doing business as Xylo Bio) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company advancing the next generation of neurotherapeutics to address significant unmet medical needs worldwide. Their mission is to transform lives with targeted neurotherapeutics. The company is building a pipeline of novel, non-hallucinogenic neuroplastogens engineered for oral delivery and scalable clinical utility. The company's compounds, developed with cutting-edge computational drug discovery, have demonstrated receptor selectivity, and promote neuroplasticity relevant to neuropsychiatric conditions while avoiding mechanisms linked to effects of psychedelics that restrict patient access.

MySwaddle and Doula Alliance of Arkansas Awarded $860,500 State Grant to Expand Maternal Care in Rural Arkansas

Funding through Arkansas' Rural Health Transformation Program will place ten trained doulas in rural clinic care teams, connected through MySwaddle's care coordination platform

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- MySwaddle, a technology-enabled maternal health platform developed by Holista, today announced that its partner, the Doula Alliance of Arkansas (DA-AR), has been awarded $860,500 through Arkansas' Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP). The grant, announced by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders on August 27, was one of 50 awards issued statewide under the program's first funding round, which is distributing $149.3 million to rural hospitals, health systems, and community organizations across Arkansas.

The award will fund "Access Starts at Home: Rural Maternal Care Coordination and Doula Support," a one-year initiative placing ten certified community-based doulas within rural clinic care teams across five regions of the state: Northwest, North Central, Upper Delta, Lower Delta, and Southwest Arkansas. The program is expected to serve approximately 250 pregnant and postpartum women, providing continuous support from early pregnancy through six months after birth.

Arkansas has one of the highest concentrations of rural counties in the country, with 63 of its 75 counties classified as rural and nearly half considered maternity care deserts, meaning no hospital, birth center, or obstetric provider is available locally. DA-AR currently has doula coverage in 24 rural counties, and its doulas are often the most consistent point of contact women in these communities have throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Under the new program, each doula will be based at a partner clinic and connected to the care team through MySwaddle's care coordination platform, which supports shared communication, documentation, screening, education, and referrals between doulas, participants, and clinical providers. The platform is built to function in low-bandwidth settings and includes offline capabilities, addressing one of the most significant barriers to consistent care in rural and frontier areas.

"Doulas are often the first person a rural mother turns to when something feels wrong, and until now, that knowledge rarely made it back to the clinical team," said Kate Grohall, President and Co-Founder of MySwaddle. "This grant lets us close that gap. When a trained doula and a woman's clinical provider are working from the same information, we catch problems earlier and keep women connected to care they might otherwise miss."

"Our doulas have always shown up for rural families, often driving long distances without any real infrastructure behind them," said Liyah Wasson, Executive Director of the Doula Alliance of Arkansas. "This funding lets us build that infrastructure. We can train and compensate doulas properly, place them inside clinic care teams, and give them a real way to communicate with providers. That is how we get more women through pregnancy and postpartum safely, no matter how far they live from the nearest hospital."

The grant is funded through the federal Rural Health Transformation Program's Promoting Access, Coordination, and Transformation (PACT) priority, established under the One Big Beautiful Bill and administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Arkansas expects to award approximately $209 million through the program this year and up to $1 billion over the next five years.

The partnership builds on a shared model between DA-AR and MySwaddle: pairing a trusted, community-based workforce with technology-enabled care coordination to close gaps in access, communication, and continuity for rural families. Findings from the grant period are expected to support long-term sustainability planning, including reimbursement pathways created under Arkansas' Certified Community-Based Doula Certification Act of 2025.

About MySwaddle MySwaddle is a digital maternal health platform developed by Holista that supports pregnant women and new mothers from pregnancy through 6 months postpartum, with a focus on Medicaid populations. The platform is HITRUST CSF Certified, HIPAA compliant, and SOC 2 Type II certified.

About the Doula Alliance of Arkansas The Doula Alliance of Arkansas is a statewide nonprofit organization advancing the professional standards of doulas across the state through advocacy, education, and workforce development, with a membership of trained and credentialed doulas serving all regions of Arkansas.

Sinch AB: Shoppers are cautious about AI, but confident when it has a job to do

STOCKHOLM, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- New research from Sinch AB (publ), shows a nuanced picture of shoppers' attitudes to AI ahead of Black Friday and the holiday season: broader concerns remain, while confidence is high when AI is used for specific, practical tasks. Among 2,501 consumers across eight markets, only 43% think AI will make their holiday shopping easier this year, down from 48% in 2025. Privacy remains shoppers' top reservation about AI for the second year running, cited by 43%, and just 7% say they have no concerns about it at all.

That caution does not carry over once the task is specific. 81% of shoppers say they are confident an AI assistant can handle order tracking and shipping updates, while 74% say the same for pre-purchase questions. Confidence is lower, but still substantial, for account changes (66%) and payment or billing changes (62%).

Shoppers are also open to interacting with AI. Of the 2,501 people surveyed, only one said they would never want to interact with an AI chatbot under any circumstance. The most popular use cases were order tracking (48%), researching a product before buying (47%), and getting customer service (36%).

"AI for AI's sake doesn't land with shoppers, but AI attached to a job they actually want done does. Order tracking and pre-purchase questions are the easy wins, where confidence is already high. Payment, billing and account changes are different: shoppers still want a human close by, and brands need to make that handoff easy and obvious," said Robert Gerstmann, Chief Evangelist and Co-Founder of Sinch.

Trust follows a similar split when AI gives advice rather than just information. 53% of shoppers trust a real person's product recommendation over AI's, while 47% trust AI just as much or more. For voice interactions, 48% trust a human phone agent over an AI voice agent, while 37% trust the AI equally or more.

Confidence in AI also varies sharply by market. The US is the most AI-skeptical market surveyed: just 26% of shoppers think AI will make their holiday shopping easier, and 43% say it won't. Brazil is at the opposite end, with 78% of the surveyed shoppers saying AI will make their shopping easier this year.

Other key findings:

- 43% think AI will make their holiday shopping easier this year, down from 48% in 2025

- Privacy or data use is shoppers' top AI concern, cited by 43%; only 7% say they have no concerns at all

- 81% are confident an AI assistant can handle order tracking and shipping updates; confidence falls to 62% for payment or billing changes

- Only 1 of 2,501 respondents said they would never want to interact with an AI chatbot

- 53% trust a real person's product recommendation over AI's; 47% trust AI just as much or more

- 48% trust a human phone agent more than an AI voice agent, while 37% trust both equally and 15% want the option to transfer to a human if needed.

- The US is the most AI-skeptical market surveyed (26% of the surveyed shoppers think AI will help, 43% say it won't); Brazil is the most optimistic (78% of the surveyed shoppers)

About the research

The findings are based on an online survey of 2,501 consumers in the United States (698), Australia (351), Brazil (350), the United Kingdom (252), France (225), Germany (225), Mexico (200) and Spain (200), conducted by Sinch in 2026.

The 2026 study follows Sinch's previous BFCM consumer research. India and Canada were included in the 2025 sample but not in 2026. Full country-level data is available on request. Read more about the survey here.

Industry leaders scale full value chain for hydrogen mobility across Europe

GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Today at IAA Transportation, Volvo Group, Daimler Truck, Toyota Motor Corporation, Bosch, Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, TEAL Mobility, and MB Energy unveiled their plans to accelerate the rollout of hydrogen-powered vehicles across Europe. For the first time in Europe, the German ecosystem has put in place all the conditions for a scalable deployment of Hydrogen trucks by 2030, driven by the German authorities and European industrial leaders along the value chain. Building on the German deployment model as a practical baseline, scaling these solutions across the continent calls for aligned support from national governments and the European Commission to ensure long-term energy resilience and competitiveness.

Rooted in the shared conviction that hydrogen is an important complement to battery-electric vehicles in achieving the EU's decarbonization targets, industry leaders are joining forces to overcome historical bottlenecks, particularly for truck operations requiring long range, high payload capacity, rapid refueling and operational flexibility. At Daimler Truck, customers have driven almost 600,000 kilometers with fuel cell trucks. As the next step, the company plans to deploy a small series of 100 next generation fuel cell trucks into customer operations from the end of 2026 onwards. In parallel, the first hydrogen combustion engine trucks are being prepared for market launch next year. Overall, the company invests a mid-three-digit million euro amount in hydrogen trucks by the end of the decade. Volvo Group is similarly advancing its hydrogen portfolio and investing significant amounts into hydrogen power solutions such as both fuel-cell and hydrogen-combustion trucks for market rollout towards 2030. Toyota will participate as a technology partner supporting the expansion of hydrogen mobility, leveraging more than 30 years of expertise gained through the development and supply of fuel cell systems, while Bosch is supplying key vehicle components for gaseous hydrogen – with its fuel cell system proven over more than 30 million kilometers on the road – alongside break-through refueling technologies for both liquid and gaseous hydrogen.

On the energy and infrastructure side, Volvo Group and Daimler Truck are closely cooperating with energy companies and hydrogen suppliers like Air Liquide, TotalEnergies and MB Energy, and retail operators such as MB Energy and TEAL Mobility (a 50/50 joint venture between TotalEnergies and Air Liquide, operating under TotalEnergies brand). These players are mobilizing their respective capacities to scale both liquid and gaseous hydrogen supply chains. Through their infrastructure investments, they are advancing toward large capacity, high-throughput refueling stations, able to refuel up to 100 trucks per day. They are also leveraging synergies with the fast-growing industrial renewable hydrogen production, driven by the implementation of the European RED III directive. Reaching competitive cost with diesel is essential for fleet operators to adopt hydrogen. Crucially, combining German government policies with industrial collaboration makes this possible through three key levers:

- Lowering truck cost through incentives and series production.

- Reaching diesel competitive hydrogen pump price through a more competitive hydrogen supply chain and Greenhouse Gas quota mechanisms.

- Offering operating incentives like zero emission toll exemptions for fleet operators.

Market is rising to meet these conditions. Recent applications under Germany's NOW funding program were oversubscribed, with over 70 high-capacity stations and 800 heavy-duty trucks applied for by industrial companies, confirming strong commercial pull from the logistics sector.

While Germany serves as the operational launchpad, demonstrating how industry action and targeted public support can accelerate market development, the industry leaders are calling for strategic measures – supported by national governments and the European Commission – to replicate this model at a continental scale.

These measures include scaling infrastructure through synchronized funding calls for refueling stations and vehicles to meet Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) targets; strengthening the commercial viability of hydrogen through pragmatic, harmonized renewable fuel credit mechanisms and toll incentives; and jointly de-risking the overall value chain, from production and liquefaction to final distribution and vehicle operation.

This combination of industrial execution and a strong policy framework provides the foundation needed to scale zero-emission godsfreight while reinforcing Europe's industrial competitiveness, energy resilience and employment, and reducing emissions from freight transport.

MANILA, Philippines, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- "Chongqing Meets Manila – A Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration" opened at SM Mall of Asia on September 12, drawing around 400 guests from political, business, cultural, educational and tourism circles of both countries, along with overseas Chinese and students.

Hosted by the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines and the Information Office of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government and organized by the Western China International Communication Organization (WCICO), the two-day festival features a cultural performance, seven themed exhibitions and city and brand presentations, bringing Bayu culture, Mid-Autumn traditions, Chongqing cuisine and "Made in Chongqing" innovations to Manila.

Zhou Zhiyong, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines, said: "For a thousand years, the Maritime Silk Road has brought not only trade in goods, but also exchanges in culture, art, ideas and friendship between China and the Philippines. Today, through an event, a conversation, a dish and a smile, we come to know each other better and grow closer."

Maria Christina G. Aquino, Assistant Secretary of the Philippine Department of Tourism, noted that China is now the Philippines' fourth-largest tourist source market, with nearly 320,000 Chinese arrivals as of September 9. "I have already tasted some of them in advance, and they were all delicious," she said of the mooncakes on site.

Wu Changfan, Deputy Director-General of the Publicity Department of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, said the festival turns the May online encounter into an in-person gathering, and that Chongqing looks forward to deeper cooperation with Manila in people-to-people exchanges, tourism promotion and trade, welcoming more Filipino friends to experience "Majestic Landscapes, Dynamic Chongqing."

The performances won warm applause, while booths on intangible heritage, "Study in Chongqing," traditional Chinese food and new energy vehicles drew steady crowds.

At the "China, An Opportunity: Chongqing Brands" promotion conference, Zhang Li of the CPC Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Committee highlighted new energy vehicles and HIFU technology already benefiting Philippine patients, as Happyyou International Travel signed a cooperation agreement with Philippine tourism organizations. Southwest University, Changan Automobile and Air China also presented study, industry and direct-flight opportunities.

A continuation of the May "Flying Across Mountains and Seas" twin-city campaign, the festival provides a face-to-face platform for Chongqing and the Philippines to explore cooperation in culture and tourism, education, automotive and beyond.

On Trend Talks will bring current industry conversations directly to the show floor through 30-minute sessions in the Trends Lounge. On Friday, October 16 at 1:00 p.m., Jen Cullen Williams will moderate "Beyond Metal: What's New in Alternative Materials" with Victoria Gomelsky of JCK Magazine.

On Saturday, October 17 at 1:00 p.m., Williams and Gomelsky will return for "What's Trending in Design," exploring the ideas and influences shaping jewelry design. The series will also feature a session Sunday, October 18 at 1:30 p.m. with "Ready for the Rush: Holiday Retail Trends Straight Off the JIS Floor," featuring Williams and consultant Tammy Lail in a discussion about product and design trends and how retailers are preparing for the holiday season.

"For jewelry retailers, timing is everything, and JIS Fall provides an important opportunity to make critical final adjustments to holiday assortments," said Sara McDonough, Event Director of JIS. "The ability to source from more than 600 exhibitors, take immediate delivery of inventory and place future orders makes the event especially valuable this close to peak selling season. This year's talks, activations and networking experiences will give buyers even more ways to discover what's new and make every day in Miami Beach productive."

The show's networking schedule will begin with Seasonal Kickoff: JIS Welcome Reception on Friday, October 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the JIS Lobby. The reception will spotlight new JIS exhibitors and give attendees and exhibitors a relaxed setting to connect after the first day of buying. JIS Unwrapped will continue the experience on Saturday, October 17 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the show floor Food Court.

Throughout the event, rotating refreshment pop-ups will appear in the Brands, Accessories and Gifts, Equipment, Technology and Services, and Lab Grown pavilions. Daily Galleria beverage breaks will also offer attendees a convenient afternoon pause in the Galleria Lounge.

Additional planned activations include a custom embroidery experience, a puppy activation, an interactive gem color forecast, and a gift-wrapping studio, creating more opportunities for attendees to pause, participate and enjoy the show beyond the buying floor.

JIS Fall will also welcome a range of new exhibitors, giving retailers additional opportunities to discover fresh collections and establish supplier relationships ahead of the holidays. Among the new names currently featured are Jewels by Anu, Previato Corp, Sky Wing, Orchid Gems, Om Color Diamonds, Athra, AAB Style, Augusta Estrada Jewelry, Estojos Baldi, Gurjar Global and Jewelerette & Co. Additional first-time participants can be found in the official JIS Fall exhibitor directory.

Designed exclusively for qualified members of the jewelry trade, JIS Fall gives retailers a critical opportunity to react before the holidays: replenishing best sellers, replacing fast-moving stock, testing trend-driven additions and expanding assortments while there is still time to influence fourth-quarter sales. With immediate and future-order purchasing available in one marketplace, buyers can address urgent inventory needs while planning what comes next.

Registration for JIS Fall 2026 is currently open. Qualified jewelry industry professionals are encouraged to register before October 1 and begin planning appointments to maximize their time at the show.

Beginning October 1, a $25 non-refundable registration fee (inclusive of applicable taxes) will apply to registrations for retailers, wholesalers, designers, distributors, diamond and gemstone dealers, and attending professionals.
