Masonry Expert Alan Williams Shares What to Know Before Installing a Concrete Driveway in HelloNation
Image File
Original HTML

The article explains how site preparation, vehicle use, drainage, curing, and future care can influence driveway planning and long-term performance.

RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- What should homeowners know before installing a concrete driveway?

HelloNation answers that question in an article featuring insights from Masonry Expert Alan Williams of A. W. Masonry & Restoration. The article explains that planning a concrete driveway involves considering how the surface will be used, how the property should be prepared, and what care may be required after installation.

The HelloNation article notes that concrete driveway installation begins with evaluating the property. Size, slope, drainage, soil conditions, and an existing driveway can all influence preparation. These factors help determine how the site should be graded and prepared before concrete is placed.

Expected vehicle use is another consideration. A driveway used mainly for passenger cars may have different requirements from one that regularly supports trucks, trailers, or recreational vehicles. The article explains that these expected loads can influence concrete thickness and other preparation decisions.

Rather than relying on a single standard measurement for every property, concrete thickness should reflect both anticipated use and site conditions. Areas carrying heavier vehicles may require a different approach from sections exposed primarily to lighter traffic. The base beneath the surface is also important because stable soil, grading, and base materials contribute to long-term performance.

Drainage should be addressed during planning as well. Water needs to move away from the home and other areas where it could cause problems. The driveway's slope and surrounding grade influence how rain and melting snow travel across the property.

Homeowners also have options for the finished appearance. A broom finish creates a lightly textured surface commonly used for driveways, while decorative colors, patterns, and other finishes can change the appearance and may bring additional installation or care considerations.

Climate conditions can affect outdoor concrete because the material expands and contracts with temperature changes. In areas that experience freezing temperatures, moisture and freeze-thaw cycles can add stress. Control joints are used to help manage natural movement and cracking, although they cannot guarantee that cracks will never develop.

Curing is another important part of concrete driveway installation. Fresh concrete requires sufficient time and appropriate conditions to develop strength. Homeowners should understand when foot traffic and vehicles can safely use the surface because driving on it too early can interfere with the curing process.

Future care should also be discussed before the project is completed. Concrete sealing can help limit moisture penetration and exposure to certain contaminants, depending on the product selected. Because products and schedules vary, homeowners should understand what type of concrete sealing may be recommended for their particular project.

Routine concrete driveway maintenance can help homeowners monitor the surface over time. Cleaning the driveway and watching cracks, joints, and drainage areas can provide useful information about changing conditions. Homeowners should also understand that certain chemicals and deicing products may affect concrete surfaces.

Weather can influence installation schedules, particularly during extreme heat, cold, or rain. Practical features around the property, including garages, sidewalks, landscaping, utilities, and street connections, can also affect dimensions, elevations, drainage, and other design choices.

The article concludes that successful planning requires homeowners to consider site preparation, expected vehicle use, drainage, concrete thickness, finish, curing, and future care together. A well-planned project reflects the property's specific conditions rather than focusing only on appearance. Understanding concrete driveway maintenance from the beginning can also help homeowners know what to expect as the finished surface ages.

What to Know Before Installing a Concrete Driveway features insights from Alan Williams, Masonry Expert of Richmond, VA, in HelloNation.

First Health Advisory Launches Resilience360 to Help Healthcare Organizations Sustain Operations and Protect Patient Care During Disruptions
Image File
Original HTML

WASHINGTON, Sept. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- First Health Advisory, a leader in healthcare cybersecurity strategy and risk management, launches Resilience360, a comprehensive operational resiliency program designed to help healthcare organizations sustain critical services during disruptions, strengthen operational continuity, and accelerate the return to normal operations while protecting patient care.

Healthcare organizations have invested significantly in disaster recovery, incident response, and emergency preparedness to strengthen their ability to respond to cyberattacks, technology outages, third party failures, and natural disasters. While these efforts are essential to restoring systems, many organizations have not fully validated how clinical and operation workflows will continue delivering care during system restoration. Resilience360 helps close that operational gap by validating people, processes, and workflows required to sustain operations throughout a disruption.

"Healthcare organizations do not need another framework. They need confidence that they can continue delivering care when disruption occurs," said Carter Groome, CEO of First Health Advisory. "Resilience360 helps organizations validate the operational capabilities that keep healthcare running, identify where operational risk truly exists, and build practical plans that enable care to continue regardless of what is causing the disruption."

Resilience360 gives organizations a validated plan to sustain care during disruptions and return to normal operations efficiently. The program evaluates critical business functions, clinical workflows, downtime procedures, key operational dependencies, recovery priorities, and the points where services begin to degrade. Organizations leave with a clear view of their operational readiness, recovery priorities, and the resources required to sustain continuity of care.

"Resilience360 went beyond reviewing our plans on paper. It helped us pressure test how our organization would actually respond when critical technology became unavailable, uncover dependencies and gaps we hadn't considered, and strengthen coordination across teams. That process gave us greater confidence in our ability to maintain operations and continue caring for patients through a disruption." shared Chief Digital & Information Officer, Southeastern Health System.

Designed as a flexible consulting engagement, Resilience360 meets healthcare organizations wherever they are in their operational resiliency journey. The program complements existing disaster recovery, incident response, and emergency preparedness efforts by validating operational plans, identifying operational dependencies, and strengthening the processes required to sustain patient care regardless of the source of disruption.

Rick LeMay, Chief Delivery Officer at First Health Advisory, added, "Healthcare organizations require more than recommendations. They need partners who understand how healthcare actually operates. Our multidisciplinary team brings together expertise across clinical operations, clinical engineering, cybersecurity, privacy, compliance, and healthcare consulting because sustaining patient care requires every one of these perspectives. Our breadth of experience helps organizations validate critical processes, strengthen operational continuity, and build confidence before disruption occurs."

Resilience360 is designed for hospitals, health systems, and other covered entities seeking to strengthen operational resiliency. Whether organizations are building foundational capabilities or validating mature continuity plans, the program provides a practical roadmap to sustain critical workflows, reduce operational risk, and protect patient care through any disruption.

Laser Hair Removal Cost vs Waxing and Shaving: A 10-Year Comparison from Laser by Aleya
Original HTML

Laser Hair Removal Cost vs Waxing and Shaving: A 10-Year Comparison from Laser by Aleya

GREAT NECK, N.Y., Sept. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The number almost everyone cites for laser hair removal cost, $697, isn't a laser hair removal figure. It comes from a broader "laser skin treatments" survey that the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has never broken out by procedure. Guides quoting that same source can't even agree on the number; $582 and $389 get attributed to the identical survey elsewhere.

Laser by Aleya, a laser hair removal and electrolysis studio based in Great Neck, is highlighting its 10-year cost comparison using its own prices and comparing with industry trends, so readers can check the math against their own habits instead of relying on an unverified average.

Laser Hair Removal Cost: The National Averages, and Why They Mislead

Per the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the widely quoted $697 figure comes from a survey category covering laser skin treatments broadly, not laser hair removal specifically. The organization doesn't publish a methodology explaining how it arrived at that number.

CareCredit's cost study takes a more honest approach, reporting a $207 to $913 per-session range by treatment area rather than a single average. User-submitted data on RealSelf puts the figure higher still, around $1,016. None of these numbers are wrong exactly.

ASPS combines a broad, undefined category of treatments into one average. CareCredit breaks cost down by treatment area. RealSelf uses an average of what patients say they actually paid. Three different measurements, not three answers to the same question. A single national average can't mean much when an upper lip and a full back are both technically "laser hair removal."

How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost by Body Area?

For anyone comparing full body laser hair removal cost across providers, per-area pricing is the number that actually matters, not a national average. Laser by Aleya publishes its own per-session pricing rather than a range:

- Upper lip: $30

- Full face: $120

- Underarms: $55

- Full legs: $175

- Full back: $100

- Bikini: $55

- Brazilian: $75

- Full body: $500

Per-session price is only half the picture. Per the American Academy of Dermatology, most people need multiple sessions spaced weeks apart before results are consistent. This means session count, not the price of any single visit, is what actually drives total cost. Anyone comparing laser hair removal cost between providers should ask about typical session counts for their area, not just the per-session rate.

The Method, Shown in Full

Using underarms as a worked example, here's a 10-year comparison built from stated, conservative assumptions. By substituting your own habits and spending into this comparison, you'll see how they compare specifically for you.

- Shaving: A four-pack of replacement cartridges runs roughly $18 and lasts about two weeks with regular use, roughly $117 a year, or about $1,170 over 10 years.

- Waxing: A monthly appointment at roughly $45 runs about $585 a year, or about $5,850 over 10 years.

- Laser: At $55 a session, an eight-session initial course (the higher end of typical ranges) plus one touch-up session a year for the remaining nine years totals 17 sessions, or about $935 over 10 years.

On this conservative accounting, laser comes in below both shaving and waxing over a 10-year window for this specific area, even using the higher end of a typical session count.

So, it boils down to the laser requiring fewer repeat purchases over 10 years than shaving and waxing, making it more financially sound in the long run.

When Laser Is Not the Cheaper Option

The math above doesn't hold in every case. Laser tends to cost more than it's worth for:

- Very small areas, where the total cost of either method is low enough that switching saves little in absolute terms

- Light, grey, or blonde hair, which laser targets poorly regardless of price. Per the FDA, hair and skin tone both affect how well laser treatment works, and electrolysis is generally the better option where hair laser can't reliably target

- Infrequent shavers, whose baseline spending is already low enough that the ten-year comparison favors laser by a smaller margin

- Anyone with a hormonal driver behind their hair growth, where ongoing maintenance sessions may be needed regardless of how many rounds are completed, changing the total cost calculation entirely

Being upfront about these cases is part of what makes the comparison above worth trusting in the first place.

Laser Hair Removal Cost in New York City: What to Ask Before Booking

In a market with as many providers as New York City, price transparency is one of the clearest signals of a studio worth trusting. Before booking, it's worth asking a provider for their actual per-area pricing rather than a ballpark, their typical session count for your specific hair and skin type, and whether a patch test is included before the first full session.

"Most 'starting at' prices in this industry are technically true and still misleading. They're built off the smallest area or the fewest sessions anyone could plausibly need," said Aleya Bamdad, Founder & CEO of Laser by Aleya. "We stopped using that framing because it just delays the real cost conversation to session two instead of having it before someone books."

One analysis found that providers who publish real pricing tend to earn more trust in comparison to those who publish only a range, which is part of why Laser by Aleya lists its prices in full rather than behind a consultation. Anyone weighing the numbers above against their own routine can schedule a consultation to get a personalized estimate.

About Laser by Aleya

Bambu Lab and Accessibility Organizations Launch MakerWorld 3D-Printing Challenge

From September, 24 briefs on MakerWorld will ask the makers to invent accessibility aids you can print and put in someone's hands

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Bambu Lab, together with seven leading accessibility organizations that use 3D printing, today launched a global design challenge on MakerWorld, the world's largest community of makers who design, share, download, and print 3D models. From September through December 2026, 24 briefs from the seven partners will invite designers and 3D-printer users worldwide to create objects someone can pick up and actually use.

Bambu Lab will host the challenge on MakerWorld, its vibrant community of makers and free library of 3D models. Hardware stopped being the main barrier years ago, after Bambu Lab lowered the barrier to 3D printing with its highly accessible printers. MakerWorld has become the largest community of 3D makers. This is the first time MakerWorld is mobilizing its community of designers to work with people with disabilities on specific, everyday needs.

The program is built around concrete, everyday needs. Jessica Cox, founder of Rightfooted Foundation International, was born without arms and uses her feet for daily life. She can pull on her first sock with a bare foot. The second sock is the problem: once one foot is covered, she loses the friction she needs to get fabric over her heel. She can scoop her service dog's waste, then has no clean way to carry it without holding the bag under her chin. Fastening a bike helmet still means sitting on the floor and lining up two small buckle halves by feel, one foot planted for balance.

At the Emerging Tech Lab at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, similar everyday challenges help drive the identification, development, and fabrication of customized solutions. Working directly with people with disabilities and rehabilitation professionals, the ETL uses 3D printing and digital fabrication methods to create practical tools that address individual needs. For example, picking up an item from the floor can be difficult when a conventional reacher requires squeezing a handle to operate it. People who use wheelchairs may also have difficulty storing, accessing, and retrieving everyday items such as phones, wallets, purses, and keys. These everyday situations can inspire makers to create simple solutions that make a meaningful difference.

Other briefs stay in the kitchen, the bathroom, and the things people do for pleasure. Ayúdame3D is requesting a toothbrush that does not have to be pinched, a tool for tying a ponytail with one hand. E-Nable France challenges makers to develop a one-hand kitchen toolkit. Neil Squire Society's Makers Making Change is requesting a knitting-needle support for people who have had a stroke, a guitar pick that stays in place with limited grip, and a marker-cap aid a teacher can use alone. PrintLab is requesting a tabletop game that a child with cerebral palsy can play with friends, designed to look like a game rather than therapy equipment. MakeGood calls for a pickle-ball paddle holder for users with weakened hand-arm musculature who struggle to grip sports paddles and wish to play pickle-ball alongside friends.

Each of the seven partners contributed briefs based on work with real users.

"These are not hypothetical users," said Qianye, Creator Operation at MakerWorld. "Jessica already walks her dog. Someone in a ward at Rancho already drops something and has to ask a stranger to pick it up. The question for makers is very small and very specific: can you print the missing piece so that person does not have to ask?"

Many of the co-initiating organizations have long built structured pathways connecting creators with people with disabilities. What MakerWorld delivers is creativity at scale: it unlocks richer creative ideas from more diverse backgrounds and draws more skilled creators into assistive design. This makes more makers aware of how they can contribute toward good, deepens understanding of the barriers people with disabilities face, and fosters greater empathy across the community.

The MakerWorld community will have two months to submit. The accessibility organizations will then spend one month printing shortlisted models and testing them with the people named in the briefs. Some partners will deliver those prints to users. Feedback from that testing will inform the final results.

Winning files will be added to open libraries and distributed through volunteer networks that already deliver devices in more than 70 countries.

Each organization is responsible for a different part of the process.

- Ayúdame3D, headquartered in Spain, will promote the challenge in Spain and send winning devices to communities around the world including Africa. It has distributed more than 1000 free "trésdesis" arms in 70 countries since 2017.

- Emerging Tech Lab at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, based in the U.S., helps ensure designs reflect the lived experiences, interests, goals, and everyday environments of the people they are intended to support.

- e-NABLE France will take the challenge to French-speaking makers. Its 450-plus volunteers have already fitted more than 200 3D-printed hands.

- MakeGood, based in the U.S., advises on briefs rooted in real user research. Since 2021 it has made free, custom assistive devices, including the Toddler Mobility Trainer, a fully 3D-printed wheelchair for children.

- Makers Making Change, a Neil Squire Society program based in Canada, will promote the contest in Canada. Winning designs will be considered for its open-source assistive technology library for their network of volunteer makers to build for people with disabilities. It has delivered more than 30,000 devices with help from about 40,000 volunteers.

- PrintLab, based in the U.K., brings a human-centered design toolkit used in its assistive-technology challenge since 2020.

- Rightfooted Foundation International, based in the U.S., is bringing briefs from the limb-difference community, including work done with Jessica Cox and will help get finished models to the people who need them.

The success of the initiative will come down to ordinary moments: someone who once put a game aside because the pieces were too small sits down and plays; someone does her ponytail without help; someone puts on a second sock with ease.

If there are even a dozen moments like that by December, the challenge will have done what it set out to do.

"Pay Upon Performance" Model Helps Homebuilders Close More Deals without risk
Image File
Original HTML

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- As housing market conditions grow increasingly uncertain, homebuilders face a critical challenge: rising costs, fluctuating mortgage rates and hesitant buyers are making it harder to convert leads into closed sales.

With rising costs, shifting mortgage rates and cautious buyers, builders are facing more stalled transactions and questioning traditional lead-generation models that require upfront investment without guaranteed results.

BuildersUpdate.com is addressing this challenge with a new approach designed to align marketing costs directly with successful outcomes. Its "Pay Upon Performance" model allows builders to eliminate upfront marketing expenses and pay only a flat marketing fee when a home sale closes.

Through this model, builders gain exposure to a nationwide network of more than 868,000 licensed real estate agents who actively pre-qualify buyers before presenting opportunities. This helps builders connect with serious, qualified buyers rather than unverified leads.

Unlike traditional marketing platforms that charge monthly fees regardless of performance, BuildersUpdate.com provides broad visibility through a distribution network of 13,000+ websites, including placement in more than 1.2 million monthly newsletters, enhanced search prioritization and access to a patented electronic buyer registration system. The system helps confirm that leads are new to the builder while allowing builders to highlight current incentives and offerings.

Importantly, builders and agents are aligned in the transaction process: agents are incentivized to bring qualified buyers because they are compensated only when a deal closes. This reduces time spent on unproductive leads and increases the likelihood of successful transactions.

As one participating builder noted, "Why wouldn't I use this program? I'm already paying a referral fee to agents, but this platform puts my communities directly in front of them, without the burden of ongoing marketing costs for leads that don't convert."

Builders only pay the marketing fee when BuildersUpdate.com is the procuring cause of the sale. The fee currently starts at $1,000 per property sold at closing, reinforcing a results-driven approach.

In today's evolving housing market, BuildersUpdate.com offers a practical solution: pay for performance, not potential. This model represents a meaningful shift toward more efficient and accountable marketing.
