Avature Launches Cortex to Coordinate AI Agents, Apps and People

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – November 03, 2026 -- Avature has launched Cortex, a cognitive layer that plans and coordinates work across AI agents, applications and people, and made it available to select customers as a native Avature solution.

Cortex draws on customers' existing business context so users can direct work and track agent activity and outcomes. IT teams retain control and visibility over execution.

Cortex splits work into tasks and routes them to agents, people or fixed workflows

Cortex takes instructions through Avature Copilot or connected workplace messaging tools. It can also start work from an event or an existing process. It breaks work into tasks, identifies dependencies and routes steps to specialized agents, people or deterministic application workflows where the path must stay fixed. It tracks handoffs and reports progress, obstacles and uncertainty. Users can refine instructions in natural language.

Avature's example is onboarding after a candidate accepts an offer. A hiring manager asks Cortex, through a messaging app, to coordinate onboarding. Using the role, location and start date, Cortex plans steps including transferring approved details to the HRIS, collecting documents, initiating a background check and requesting equipment through an IT fulfillment agent. If an approval stalls, Cortex identifies who must act and flags potential start-date delays.

Agents pull context from Avature data models, workflows and business rules at runtime

Each agent retrieves relevant enterprise and record context from the customer's Avature data models, workflows and business rules, within its permissions. Cortex keeps memory and state across interactions, so users do not lose progress or repeat background information.

Cortex connects agents and applications through Avature's integration framework and open protocols, including MCP and A2A. Purpose-built bots can complete steps through the existing interfaces of legacy systems.

Agent Command Center gives IT visibility into running agents, models and costs

Cortex governs all agents, including third-party agents, through identities, permissions, allowed actions and approval requirements. Guardrails support data privacy and output quality. The Agent Command Center shows IT teams which agents are running, their models and their costs. Diagnostics identify cross-system failures and bottlenecks, and budget limits keep usage within organizational boundaries.

Avature CEO and Founder Dimitri Boylan said companies must decide where AI can act, where fixed rules apply and where human judgment is essential. He said Cortex clarifies those choices so companies can redesign processes.

Cortex builds on more than 20 years of Avature's configurable platform, which lets customers define operations through their own data models, workflows, business rules and permissions. Avature says its platform serves 110 Fortune 500 companies in more than 164 countries.
