PLEASANTON – November 03, 2026 -- Avathon Government won the 2026 Commercial Technologies for Maintenance Activities (CTMA) Technology Competition, beating 36 entries with an AI system that cuts troubleshooting times by up to 30%, according to the company.
The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS) named Avathon's Digital Maintenance Advisor (DMA) the most innovative maintenance and sustainment technology in use for DoW operations. Avathon's presentation, titled "Prescriptive AI to Operationalize Nondestructive Inspection," took the top innovation award.
DMA merges maintenance records, inspection data and technical guidance into one decision tool
DMA is an AI-powered software system that unifies maintenance records, inspection data and technical guidance in a single decision-support framework. It diagnoses faults, prescribes fixes and guides maintainers through optimized workflows. The aim is a faster return of critical defense assets to mission-ready status.
Avathon also cites improved precision and accuracy, better worker safety and less dependence on potentially scarce subject matter experts.
Modular architecture connects to legacy maintenance systems without disrupting inspections
DMA is one of several defense and commercial applications on the AI-native Avathon Autonomy Platform. Its modular architecture integrates with legacy systems and existing maintenance and operating workflows, leaving current inspection and maintenance processes unchanged.
NCMS funds a future CTMA project and DoW demonstrations
NCMS has awarded Avathon Government funding for a future CTMA project, which will let the company run further demonstrations for the DoW. The funding amount was not disclosed.
Art Sellers, President and General Manager of Avathon Government, said the technology creates "a trustworthy knowledge platform with industrial AI" for maintainers across industry and defense.
