Belmar, N.J. – November 03, 2026 -- Playa Bowls shops nationwide have served a four-item chocolate menu called Cacao Chocolate Waves since November 3, with two bowls and two smoothies built on a new cacao base. The Playa Cacao Base is sweetened with dates and contains zero added sugar. The menu runs while supplies last.

The new base replaces added sugar with dates

The chain says cacao naturally contains antioxidants, flavonoids and essential minerals. It also links cacao to heart health, brain function, metabolic balance and mood.

Danielle DeAngelo, director of research and development at Playa Bowls, said the base is meant to satisfy a chocolate craving while delivering cacao's nutritional benefits.

Two bowls pair chocolate with coconut or strawberry

The Chocolate Coconut Joy Bowl combines half Playa Cacao Base and half Playa Coconut Base. It is topped with blueberry flax granola, banana, walnuts and a Nutella drizzle. The chain notes the coconut adds electrolytes and healthy fats.

The Chocolate Covered Strawberry Bowl pairs half Cacao Base with half Stupid Cupid Base, a pink blend of strawberry, banana and organic coconut milk. Blueberry flax granola, fresh strawberries, banana and a dollop of coco whip finish it. The look is meant to echo a classic chocolate-covered strawberry.

Two smoothies add chocolate protein and swirls

The Triple Dark Wave Smoothie blends Cacao Base, Coconut Base, banana, chocolate protein, Nutella and organic coconut milk. An extra Nutella swirl tops it.

The PB Chocolate Wave Smoothie blends Cacao Base, banana, chocolate protein, peanut butter and organic coconut milk. Peanut butter and coco whip swirls create a marbled finish. Playa Bowls credits the banana with potassium and natural carbs for sustained energy.
