Duke Energy Florida Bills Drop $33 a Month in January 2027

St. Petersburg – November 03, 2026 -- Duke Energy Florida customers will pay less for electricity in 2027. The Florida Public Service Commission approved the utility's request to lower rates, and a typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) a month will see a $33 decrease on the January 2027 bill compared with January 2026.

A tax strategy helps avert a scheduled rate increase

The company says the reduction comes partly from a tax strategy it recently implemented. That strategy avoided a base rate increase that had been scheduled for 2027.

Commercial customers see cuts of 0.9% to 3.8%

From December 2026 to January 2027, residential customers using 1,000 kWh a month will see rates fall by about $0.95. Commercial and industrial customers will see decreases between 0.9% and 3.8%, depending on several factors.

A further $10 reduction arrives in March 2027

In March 2027, residential customers will get an additional $10 decrease per 1,000 kWh. It reflects a temporary reduction the company applies every March through November, when energy use is often highest.
