Akash to Migrate to Solana Over 24 Months After 97% Vote

SAN FRANCISCO – November 03, 2026 -- Akash, the decentralized compute platform, will migrate its underlying blockchain infrastructure to Solana over the next 24 months, after Governance Proposal 346 passed with 97% of token holders voting in favor.

Three Akash products will run natively on Solana

Akash Marketplace, which aggregates distributed compute supply, AkashML, its AI inference platform, and Akash Homenode, which lets users contribute compute power to the network, will be available natively on Solana. The move allows Akash to integrate existing tools from Solana's ecosystem, which spans internet capital markets, payments, AI agents and crypto applications.

Akash cites low transaction costs and DePIN ecosystem in choosing Solana

An internal review identified Solana as the best fit for Akash's future growth, citing low transaction costs, an established DePIN ecosystem, liquidity and access to a large onchain user base. Solana has more than 50 million active users.

Founder Greg Osuri said the move advances Akash's aim of "making compute a liquid resource" as demand for inference grows. Rishin Sharma, Head of AI Growth at the Solana Foundation, said Akash's vision of a decentralized, globally accessible compute marketplace is increasingly relevant as AI compute demand rises.

AKT holders will swap tokens 1:1 for SPL AKT through a dedicated portal

Existing AKT holders will be able to migrate their tokens to SPL AKT on a 1:1 basis. The Akash and Solana teams have already begun technical planning and coordination on the transition.
