WASHINGTON – November 02, 2026 -- Kirk M. Goehring, chief executive officer of Decatur County Bank in West Tennessee, is one of 11 recipients of the American Bankers Association's 2026 Emerging Leader Awards, which honor leadership, professional achievement and community service in banking.
ABA selects 11 winners through a competitive multi-round review
Banking industry professionals evaluated nominations submitted from across the country in a multi-round process. Goehring and the other members of the Class of 2026 were recognized during the ABA Annual Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, in October.
Selection criteria include dedication to the profession, innovative thinking, leadership skills, mentoring ability, personal integrity and sustained career growth. The committee also weighs each nominee's commitment to a long-term banking career, professional experience and academic training.
Bank chairman credits Goehring for the institution's growth in Jackson
Jay England, chairman of the bank's board of directors, said the bank has grown and advanced its mission of serving the community because of Goehring's leadership. England cited Goehring's relationships across Jackson and West Tennessee and his record as an athlete, coach, banker, and church and community leader.
Goehring said the award belongs to the entire team at Decatur County Bank and West Tennessee Bank.
ABA says the class reflects a passion for innovation across a $26.5 trillion industry
ABA President and CEO Rob Nichols said the class shows "a commitment to excellence and a willingness to lead by example." The association represents the nation's $26.5 trillion banking industry, which employs more than 2 million people, safeguards $20.7 trillion in deposits and extends $13.9 trillion in loans.
