TAMPA, Fla. – November 02, 2026 -- Tampa General Hospital (TGH) ranks No. 3 in Florida and No. 1 on Florida's West Coast in Newsweek's 2027 America's Best-in-State Hospitals ranking, the fourth consecutive year it has been the highest-ranked hospital in the Tampa Bay region.
TGH has held the regional top spot every year since the list began. It has also placed among Florida's top three hospitals in every edition.
Newsweek and Statista rank 800 hospitals across four data sources
Newsweek compiled the list with Statista. Hospitals from all U.S. states were eligible and included in a nationwide survey. Each was scored on hospital quality metrics, hospital reputation, patient experience and a Statista Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) implementation survey.
The 800 highest-scoring hospitals made the list and were ranked within their respective states. Newsweek designed the ranking around the premise that proximity and access are crucial when patients choose where to receive care.
TGH ties its academic model to the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine
TGH attributes its consistent placement to academic medicine delivered through its partnership with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, where it is the primary teaching hospital. John Couris, president and CEO of Florida Health Sciences Center | Tampa General, said the ranking reflects the difference its teams make for patients across the state.
Couris pointed to Level I trauma and comprehensive burn care serving 23 counties, and to one of the leading adult solid organ transplant centers in the nation. He also cited a growing network of hospitals and outpatient services across Florida.
The system operates 1,530 beds as a not-for-profit network. In fiscal year 2024, it provided a net community benefit of approximately $289.1 million as the area's safety-net hospital. That figure covers care for underinsured patients, community education and financial support to community health organizations in Tampa Bay.
Best-in-State adds to a run of 2026 national and global rankings
TGH was named the No. 1 hospital in the Tampa Bay region for the 11th consecutive year in U.S. News & World Report's 2026-2027 Best Hospitals rankings. It again led Tampa Bay hospitals on Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals 2026, its eighth straight year on the global list.
Earlier this year, TGH was the only health system in Tampa honored across all seven specialties in Newsweek's America's Best Hospitals for Specialized Care 2026. This month it was also named among Newsweek's World's Best Smart Hospitals for 2027.
