SYDNEY – November 02, 2026 -- Kazia Therapeutics (NASDAQ: KZIA) will present two preclinical abstracts on its lead asset paxalisib at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS), held Dec. 8-11, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas.
Poster P4-9-18 challenges the view that dual PI3K/mTOR inhibitors are equivalent
The first poster reports that paxalisib induces durable tumour and immune reprogramming across breast cancer subtypes. Kazia says these effects are not necessarily shared by other dual PI3K/mTOR inhibitors in preclinical models. The company believes the evidence supports a mechanism of action that extends beyond conventional kinase inhibition.
Poster P4-10-26 tests adjuvant paxalisib in stage III triple-negative breast cancer
The second poster examines whether paxalisib can suppress local recurrence and metastatic progression when given after standard neoadjuvant chemo-immunotherapy. The work uses a preclinical model of stage III triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Kazia attributes the effect to durable immune epigenetic rewiring.
Paxalisib already holds FDA designations in brain tumors
Paxalisib is an investigational oral, brain-penetrant dual PI3K/mTOR inhibitor. It carries U.S. FDA Fast Track and Orphan Drug designations for glioblastoma, and Fast Track designation for PI3K-altered brain metastases with radiation. It also holds Rare Pediatric Disease and Orphan Drug designations for select pediatric brain tumors, including diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma and atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor. Kazia is developing the drug across central nervous system cancers, advanced breast cancer and colorectal cancer.
Kazia flags translation risk from preclinical data to human trials
The company cautions that preclinical and translational results may not predict outcomes in human clinical trials and that the data are early-stage. Its stated risks also include funding to advance its programs, regulatory review and approval processes, and maintaining compliance with Nasdaq listing requirements.
