Aflac Promotes Morimoto, Simard to Lead Japan and U.S. Units

COLUMBUS – November 02, 2026 -- Aflac Incorporated will promote deputy presidents Shinsuke Morimoto and Frederic J. Simard to lead Aflac Life Insurance Japan Ltd. (Aflac Japan) and Aflac U.S., respectively, effective January 1, 2027.

Morimoto takes over Aflac Japan and joins the holding company board

Morimoto will become President and Representative Director of Aflac Japan, responsible for overall business execution. He will also join the Aflac Holdings LLC Board of Managers, which oversees Aflac Japan as an insurance holding company licensed under Japanese law.

Aflac Incorporated President Virgil Miller said Morimoto has spent nearly four decades at the company, with leadership roles spanning Claims, Sales, Corporate Planning and Strategy. Miller credited him with developing Aflac Japan's mid-term strategy and transforming its marketing and sales organization and human capital management system.

Simard moves up to run strategy, distribution and operations at Aflac U.S.

Simard will become President of Aflac U.S., responsible for strategy, distribution and operations. He joined the unit in 2023 as senior vice president and chief financial officer, became executive vice president and chief operating officer in 2025, and was named deputy president in early 2026.

He brings more than 30 years of insurance experience across business and financial areas, according to Miller.

Koide becomes Aflac Japan chairman as Lake shifts to international affairs

Masatoshi Koide, currently President and Representative Director of Aflac Japan, will become Chairman and Representative Director. He will lead the Aflac Japan Board of Directors in decision-making on important matters and oversee business operations, and will remain on the Aflac Holdings LLC Board of Managers.

Charles D. Lake II, currently Chairman of Aflac Japan, will become Executive Advisor of Aflac Japan and Chairman of Aflac International. In that role he will represent Aflac externally on international affairs. He will also keep his seat on the Aflac Holdings LLC Board of Managers.

Board-led succession process drives both changes

Aflac Chairman and CEO Daniel P. Amos said the moves result from a long-term succession planning process overseen by the Aflac Incorporated Board of Directors to put "the right people in the right places at the right time."

Aflac's forward-looking disclosures list the ability to effectively manage key executive succession among the factors that could cause actual results to differ materially from projections.
