Superscript Opens Real-Time Pricing API to Any US Practice or EHR

NEW YORK – November 02, 2026 -- Healthcare fintech Superscript is opening its real-time patient pricing platform to any U.S. medical practice or EHR vendor through a new API, covering 3,379 services across 27 specialties.

The platform already serves 1,500 active providers in orthopedics, urgent care and multispecialty groups. It has reached more than 500,000 patients and processed 2.2 million patient billing transactions. athenahealth ranked Superscript its fastest-growing marketplace partner in September.

Superscript's software returns personalized cost breakdowns on 92% of visits

The software draws on practices' historical claims, EHR context and live eligibility data. It analyzes the specific doctor, facility location, clinical procedure and patient insurance policy. Predictive algorithms and automated pricing simulations then produce the patient's cost share, including deductibles, coinsurance, copays, MPPR and global billing periods. Each output covers the base visit, likely add-on services and possible shifts in severity.

Copay-only estimators previously produced costs for 39% of multispecialty visits, according to Superscript.

Patients pay before care under the online storefront model

Patients browse services on a practice's online storefront, see their insurance-adjusted price and pay upfront before receiving care. Practices use the model today for services ranging from routine office visits and EKGs to knee and hip surgeries.

Superscript frames the model against a billing gap. Healthcare billing confusion contributes to $220 billion in U.S. patient medical debt, and doctors lose up to 40% of their fees for care already delivered, the company says. Federal hospital and insurer price transparency rules have made pricing data more public. Legacy infrastructure still does not give patients or providers real-time out-of-pocket visibility before care begins, according to the company.

Michigan's Orthopaedic Associates of Muskegon adopts the platform

Jeff Cave, CEO of Orthopaedic Associates of Muskegon (OAM), said the partnership lets patients know "exactly what they owe before their visit." He added that doctors and administrative teams previously could not know exact insurance reimbursement rates at the point of care.

Integrations span three EHRs, with Epic and NextGen builds underway

Superscript has integrations with athenahealth, Experity and eClinicalWorks. Builds for Epic and NextGen partners are underway. The company processed over 2 million transactions in its first commercial year.

Investors include Mark Cuban, Nava Ventures, Long Journey Ventures, M13 and Firstminute Capital. Dr. Arthur A. Klein, former President of the Mount Sinai Health Network, is an investor and advisor.

Superscript will demonstrate its real-time patient billing solution at athenahealth's upcoming Thrive conference.
