WASHINGTON – October 31, 2026 -- The Alliance for Chemical Distribution (ACD) and the American Chemistry Council (ACC) raised $100,000 at the third annual Swings for STEM golf tournament, bringing their three-year fundraising total to nearly $300,000.
Proceeds fund two STEM education programs
The money supports the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) and Creating Exciting Futures in STEM (CEFinSTEM). Both programs work to expand access to STEM education. The tournament drew participants from industry, government and academia.
FOSSI has funded more than 900 scholarships
ACC President and CEO Chris Jahn said FOSSI was launched to create new pathways into STEM careers and strengthen the chemical industry's talent pipeline. More than 900 scholarships have been funded through the initiative so far.
ACD President and CEO Eric R. Byer said the event gives young people a view of career options in chemical distribution. ACD represents more than 400 member companies in an industry the association puts at more than $27 billion.
Nearly 20 scholars attend dedicated student program
Nearly 20 FOSSI scholarship recipients attended. Their program combined a golf clinic, a leadership development workshop and networking sessions. Scholar Brandon Simmons said the event let him build relationships with scholars from other schools.
FOSSI applications remain open until January 8, 2027
