Anaheim – – October 30, 2026 -- Art collective teamLab will open its first permanent U.S. museum in 2030 at OCVIBE, a 100-acre sports, entertainment and arts district under construction in Anaheim, California. The purpose-built venue will span about 110,000 square feet and is designed around teamLab's immersive art experience.
OCVIBE is privately funded with a $5 billion commitment from the Samueli Family. The museum is part of the district's master plan alongside dining, hospitality and public spaces. OCVIBE says it is making art central to the district rather than treating it as an amenity.
smith-clementi designs a windowless, color-shifting museum next to ARTIC
Architecture firm smith-clementi, which is also OCVIBE's master planner, designed the building. It will anchor one end of the district and be visible from the freeway. The immersive galleries require a largely windowless environment, so the architects wrapped the exterior in a textured "cloak" whose pattern evokes scales and movement. The surface is designed to shift in color with changing sunlight.
The museum is conceived as the inverse of the neighboring Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC), which is transparent and lit from within. The museum is a solid, colorful form that stands out in daylight, leaving ARTIC's illuminated profile to dominate after dusk.
LPA is Architect of Record alongside smith-clementi and is working directly with teamLab on the museum's exhibitions.
OCVIBE and Visit Anaheim target longer stays and new audiences
OCVIBE wants guests to experience teamLab as part of a full day or extended stay rather than a stand-alone visit. The district will combine chef-driven dining, live music, parks, year-round programming and what it calls the nation's largest outdoor public art gallery. Dan Young, OCVIBE's Executive Director of Development, said the aim is an experience "greater than the sum of its parts."
Visit Anaheim President and CEO Mike Waterman said the museum will draw new audiences from around the world and encourage longer stays and repeat visits. OCVIBE also says the museum gives U.S. visitors permanent access to work that previously required travel abroad or a limited run at a major cultural institution.
Founder Toshiyuki Inoko described the project as teamLab's first major museum in North America.
OCVIBE opens its first phase in March 2027 with a 5,000-capacity concert hall
The concert hall opens first, in March 2027, followed by Katella Commons, a 50,000-square-foot chef-driven market hall. Later in 2027, The Weave will open as the district's commercial office building, with co-working operator Kiln as a tenant. The first restaurants, public art program and public spaces will open the same year.
Full build-out is scheduled for 2033. It includes 20 acres of open space, three miles of connected walking trails, more than 2,000 residences, 35+ dining venues and three entertainment venues.
