OSLO – October 30, 2026 -- Nordic Semiconductor (OSE: NOD) has demonstrated Bluetooth High Data Throughput (HDT) running in silicon, a feature that raises the maximum Bluetooth Low Energy transfer speed almost fourfold. The company is one of the first vendors to show support for the technology.
Longer packets target wearables, hearing aids and PC accessories
Bluetooth HDT adds support for longer packets and new ways for the radio to pack more data into each transmission. Nordic says wearables, smart home devices, PC accessories, hearing aids and other Bluetooth LE products will be able to move data significantly faster while keeping the energy efficiency of Bluetooth LE.
Nordic keeps HDT inside its existing software and tools
Nordic will deliver HDT through the standard software, tools and developer experience its customers already use. Product designers can add faster data transfer without moving to a new stack, new tools or a new supplier, which limits redesign cost for existing Bluetooth LE product lines.
Bluetooth SIG release expected in late 2026
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is expected to release Bluetooth HDT in late 2026. Nordic's demonstration therefore precedes the formal specification release.
Nordic will show the technology at electronica 2026 in Munich, Germany, at booth C6 159. Product designers can register their interest in HDT through the company's dedicated web page.
