21-year-old seriously hurt after car versus train crash in Rock County

TOWN OF FULTON, Wis. (WMTV) - One man was seriously hurt after a vehicle versus train crash in Rock County Wednesday afternoon.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office said at approximately 2:45 p.m., officials responded to a report of a train and a vehicle crash with an injury on North Dallman Road., south of County Trunk N in the Town of Fulton.

The investigation showed a Honda Civic driven by a 21-year-old man from Stoughton was traveling northbound on North Dallman Road, approaching a railroad crossing.

A train with a locomotive and two freight cars was approaching the North Dallman Road crossing and was operated by a 51-year-old man from McFarland.

The vehicle continued to drive over the railroad crossing and was struck by the train on the driver’s side as it crossed the tracks, according to officials.

The sheriff’s office said traffic control for the railroad crossing consisted of stop signs both north and south of the crossing and were in proper working order at the time of the crash.

The 21-year-old man was seriously injured and was extricated from his vehicle by the fire department. He was transported to the hospital via Med Flight.

Officials noted there were three crew members total on the train and they had no reported injuries.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Fulton Police Department, Edgerton Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Lakeside Fire Department, MD-1 and Med Flight all responded to the scene.

The crash is still under investigation.
