Sony Prices RIALTO 65 Extension for VENICE 2 at $80,000

SAN DIEGO – October 29, 2026 -- Sony Electronics will sell its RIALTO 65 Camera Extension System (CBK-6510XS) for the VENICE 2 CineAlta camera at an MSRP of $80,000 USD ($113,800 CAD), with availability tentatively set for the first half of 2027.

The system adds a 65mm-class sensor to VENICE 2 and is among the largest sensors in commercially available cinema cameras, based on Sony's own research as of October 2026. VENICE 2 bodies need dedicated firmware (Version 6.00 or later) to run it.

RIALTO 65 sensor offers 2.2 times the imaging area of 35mm full frame

The sensor measures 53.75 mm by 35.83 mm, with a 1.5:1 aspect ratio and a diagonal of about 64.60 mm. Sony says the area is roughly 2.2 times that of a 35mm full-frame sensor. The camera head supports 9.6K 1.5:1 Open Gate readout and a 9.6K 2.20:1 mode with a diagonal of about 59.04 mm. The 2.20:1 mode accommodates a wider range of lenses and requires a third-party mount adapter. Sony plans additional readout modes through future VENICE 2 software updates, though functions and specifications may change without notice.

Users can choose Base ISO 2500 or ISO 10000. At ISO 2500, the system delivers 15+ stops of latitude.

Compact camera head weighs about 3.3 lbs and works in two modes

The head measures roughly 115 mm x 154 mm x 63 mm (W x H x D). In Extension Mode, it separates from the VENICE 2 body for confined spaces, elevated positions and handheld work. In Studio Mode, it attaches directly to the body and is only slightly longer than the VENICE 2 8K/6K.

The connecting cable detaches at both ends. A 14.76 ft cable is included, and a 39.37 ft option is sold separately. Camera tilt and roll data can be recorded as metadata for post-production.

Existing VENICE 2 workflow carries over, including AXS cards and X-OCN

The VENICE 2 body handles recording, so users keep their AXS memory cards, peripherals and internal 16-bit X-OCN recording. The system retains CineAlta color science, S-Log3 and S-Gamut3. Sony is pitching this as a way to enter 65mm without replacing existing VENICE 2 assets.

Yang Cheng, Senior Vice President, Imaging Solutions at Sony Electronics Inc., said the extension systems are meant to give VENICE 2 customers "more sensor options."

RIALTO 65 ships without a lens mount and with 11 electronic ND filters

The head has no lens mount and relies on third-party adapters. When the lens and adapter support communication with the camera, focal length, focus position and aperture value are recorded as metadata for editing, VFX and virtual production. For anamorphic lenses, the system offers de-squeeze display at multiple magnification ratios and a Zoom to Fit function.

It includes 11 drop-in ND filters with electronic contacts, which VENICE 2 recognizes automatically by density.

Optional ND kit costs $8,000 and 39.37 ft cable costs $9,000

The CBK-NDK6510 ND Filter Kit is a set of 11 filters equivalent to those included with the system. It is priced at $8,000 USD ($11,380 CAD), and individual filters cannot be bought separately. The CBK-12C6510 39.37 ft cable replaces the included 14.76 ft cable and costs $9,000 USD ($12,800 CAD). Both accessories are tentatively slated for the first half of 2027.

Sony notes that the specifications are current as of the announcement date and may differ from the final versions.
