Tata Communications Commits $450M to 10,000 km AI Fiber Network

NEW DELHI – October 28, 2026 -- Tata Communications will invest close to USD 450 million to build an AI super highway in India, a network of around 10,000 kilometers of new long-haul fiber linking the country's key AI data-centre corridors.

The network will integrate with the company's global backbone. It is designed to give customers end-to-end connectivity for AI workloads that require low latency, resilience and scale.

Phase one targets the Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad-Chennai corridor

The first phase covers the Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad-Chennai route, which Tata Communications describes as one of India's most important AI and hyperscale growth corridors.

Later phases will extend to emerging East Coast and Western India data centre ecosystems, including Vizag, Bhubaneswar, Jamnagar and GIFT City. The routes will connect data centre clusters to international cable landing stations, linking India with major global AI hubs.

Hyperscalers, neoclouds and GCCs are the target customers

The company is aiming at demand from hyperscale and neocloud providers, AI workloads, digital-native businesses, Global Capability Centres (GCCs), enterprises and emerging cloud platforms. It cites accelerating cloud adoption, AI deployment and data localisation requirements as drivers of data centre growth in India.

Rupesh Chokshi, Chief Product and Technology Officer and Global Business Head for Network Services, said "the AI economy needs more than compute." He said the company's AI Network Fabric will deliver ultra-low-latency, high-capacity connectivity to global customers.

Existing long-distance and metro networks will keep expanding

In parallel, Tata Communications will scale its current National Long Distance and metro network footprint. The company says this will support existing enterprise and data centre connectivity requirements while adding capacity for future demand.
