ZURICH – October 28, 2026 -- Novelis has specified approximately 100,000 square metres of its aluminium facade materials across six major regeneration, residential and commercial projects in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and London.
Six projects span transport, residential and commercial segments
The portfolio covers the regeneration of Glasgow Harbour, the modernisation of Glasgow Queen Street Station and the refurbishment of London's Chalcots Estate. It also includes Birmingham's Arena Central development, the Hexagon Tower redevelopment in Manchester and the St Michael's mixed-use development in Manchester.
Two Novelis products anchor the specifications
The projects use J57S-UP batch-anodised quality aluminium and ff3, a 3 mm thick pre-painted aluminium classified as fire resistance class A1. Novelis said both products help architects, fabricators and developers deliver safer building envelopes.
"These projects illustrate the breadth of architectural applications enabled by aluminium," said Michael Hahne, vice president of commercial for Novelis in Europe.
Glasgow Harbour and St Michael's apply the materials to distinct design briefs
At Glasgow Harbour, ff3 pre-painted aluminium was selected for a major facade replacement at one of Scotland's largest residential developments. At St Michael's Manchester, a bronze-anodised finish was chosen to complement the surrounding historic conservation area.
At Hexagon Tower, the redesigned building envelope preserves the site's architectural identity while converting it into a modern workspace. Novelis cited aesthetics, durability and long-term performance as the common factors behind material selection at Queen Street Station, Arena Central and the Chalcots Estate.
Fabricators Gilmours, Sotech Optima and Metalline repeatedly specify J57S-UP
Gilmours, Sotech Optima and Metalline Architectural Fabrications have repeatedly specified J57S-UP for facade projects, citing its anodising quality, design flexibility and consistent appearance across large developments. Lindsay Gilmour, Brand & Digital Strategy Director at Gilmours, said her company transformed the design intent of Hexagon Manchester into reality and welcomed the project's recognition.
