Columbus, Ohio – October 28, 2026 -- The Perfect Companion plans to hire 25 more employees in Columbus, adding to a local team of 65, as Ohio works to fill an estimated 17,000 home care aide openings every year. The private-pay senior care provider marks five years in the city this month.
Columbus office has grown to 65 staff since its October 2021 opening
Concierge Care Director Debra Banchefsky has led the Columbus office since it opened. The company provides non-medical in-home care, from companionship to help with daily routines, for older adults in Columbus and surrounding suburbs.
It matches caregivers to clients through a proprietary assessment that weighs personality as well as skill. It trains caregivers to a Ritz-Carlton hospitality standard and staffs its phones with a live person 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The company has never franchised.
The Perfect Companion has made the Inc. 5000 list of America's fastest-growing private companies five years in a row. Its most recent ranking was No. 3,142 in 2026, with 96% three-year revenue growth.
Ohio has 43 home care aides per 1,000 seniors, versus 65 nationally
The figure comes from America's Health Rankings' 2026 Senior Report. In Franklin County, about 186,000 residents are 65 or older, or 13.7% of the population, according to 2024 U.S. Census Bureau estimates. That share was about 10% in 2010.
The Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University projects the county's 65-and-older population will reach about 229,000 by 2040.
Caregiver turnover at home care agencies has held near 75% for two years
Activated Insights' 2026 Benchmarking Report, which drew on roughly 1,100 home care agencies, reports the turnover rate. Company-wide, 70% of The Perfect Companion's caregivers have stayed with the company for more than eight years.
Founder and President Jon Siegel, a former psychotherapist of more than 30 years, says he screens candidates himself for the ability to understand the person and not just the diagnosis. Banchefsky framed the retention goal in family terms: "Every caregiver we add has to be someone a family would want for years, not weeks."
Ohio House Bill 530 would create a long-term care workforce commission
Lawmakers are weighing the bill, which would establish a commission to study Ohio's long-term care workforce, including demand for direct care workers. It cleared the House Workforce and Higher Education Committee 10-0 in June and awaits a floor vote.
Siegel's Columbus ties date to 1977-1982, when he oversaw care for veterans in nursing homes across Appalachian Ohio, including Marietta, Zanesville and Cambridge, while working on the Ohio State University campus. He founded The Perfect Companion in 2008.
