U.S.-based 501(c)(3) humanitarian relief organization formalizes partnership with the International Organization for Migration at a high-level meeting at IOM headquarters in Geneva

GENEVA, Oct. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Human Development Fund (HDF), a U.S.-based humanitarian relief organization working in more than 33 countries, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations agency for migration, at IOM headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The agreement formalizes the relationship between the two organizations and sets a framework for closer coordination on humanitarian response, with an initial focus on Sudan and Yemen.

The signing followed a high-level meeting between an HDF delegation led by Chief Executive Officer Abdirahman Kariye and IOM Chief of Staff Mohammed Abdiker and his team. Discussions centered on the humanitarian situation in Sudan and Yemen, where displacement continues to rise, and on opportunities for HDF and IOM to work together to reach the families most affected.

Millions of people remain displaced inside Sudan, and needs in Yemen remain acute. Across both emergencies, needs are growing while resources fall short. HDF delivers food, clean water, medicine, and shelter to displaced families in Sudan, and is mobilizing emergency food, water, shelter, and medical assistance for families displaced in Yemen's Taiz, Lahj, and Al Hodeidah governorates, as well as for those arriving by sea in Djibouti.

"This is an important milestone for HDF," said Abdirahman Kariye, Chief Executive Officer of Human Development Fund. "Signing this Memorandum of Understanding with IOM strengthens our institutional partnerships within the United Nations system and reflects the work our teams are doing every day in the field. HDF is growing from a grassroots humanitarian organization into a globally recognized institution, and partnerships like this one allow us to serve more people in Sudan, Yemen, and beyond."

"We had a productive meeting with the Human Development Fund on the humanitarian response in Sudan and Yemen," said Mohammed Abdiker, Chief of Staff of the International Organization for Migration. "Millions of people remain displaced in Sudan, and needs in Yemen remain acute. Across both crises, needs are growing while resources fall short. Sustained support, including from HDF, is essential to reach those most affected. We look forward to continuing our partnership."

The MOU marks a significant step in HDF's engagement with the United Nations system and adds to the organization's growing network of institutional partners. HDF operates field offices in Somalia, Kenya, Jordan, and Pakistan, and in 2025 reached more than 3.5 million people with emergency relief and long-term development programs. HDF is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 92-2204466), accredited by the BBB Wise Giving Alliance and holder of a Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency.
