CARLSBAD, Calif. – October 19, 2026 -- A single application of Senté Labs' Defense C Serum cut a key oxidative stress marker by 44% within 24 hours in lab testing on UV-damaged human skin, according to peer-reviewed research published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (2026).
The study, "Specific Stacking of Key Molecules to Enhance Skin Care Outcomes," tested the combination of Senté's low molecular weight heparan sulfate analog (HSA) with tetrahexyldecyl (THD) ascorbate, a lipophilic vitamin C derivative. The authors are Vivian Bucay, MD; Rosalyn George, MD; Anna Guiotto, PhD; Alessandra Pecorelli, PhD; Emmanuel Ike; and Angel S. Byrd, MD, of Howard University College of Medicine. They report that the pairing outperforms either ingredient alone, an approach they call "bioactive stacking."
HSA-THD combination reduces DNA damage by 9.5% and AGEs by 37% within 24 hours
In the lab testing, the combination also cut DNA damage by 9.5% and reduced advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which are linked to skin aging, by 37%. All three results were statistically significant.
Twelve-week regimen improves clarity 38% and fine lines 46% in female subjects
Women using the regimen over 12 weeks showed significant improvement across every measure by Week 8:
- Clarity: up 38%
- Brightness and luminosity: up 41%
- Texture and smoothness: up 47%
- Overall photodamage: down 35%
- Fine lines and wrinkles: improved by 46%
Responder rates were high. 94% of subjects saw brighter, more luminous skin, 88% saw clearer skin, 87% saw smoother texture, and 81% saw measurable improvement in overall photodamage.
All subjects report zero irritation by Week 4 with no adverse events
Tolerability addresses a known limitation of THD ascorbate, which the source describes as unstable and irritating at the concentrations needed to be effective. Every subject reported zero irritation or redness by Week 4. The study recorded no adverse events or discontinuations. At study end, 100% of participants said they were satisfied with their results.
Defense C, launched September 2025, becomes a top seller for Senté
Defense C Serum launched in September 2025 and has become one of Senté's best-selling products, and a provider favorite for brightening. Senté CEO Zubin Meshginpoosh said pairing ingredients with independent, complementary mechanisms of action optimized both delivery and tolerability of vitamin C.
The company says the findings add to earlier published studies on its heparan sulfate analog technology and its role in calming inflammation. Senté is positioning Defense C against a crowded vitamin C category by pairing the ingredient with a proprietary regenerative partner rather than competing on concentration.
