Obsidian Sensors Selected for U.S. Army DUTCH Program to Deliver High-Resolution Thermal Cameras at Attritable Prices

Obsidian's DUTCH project goal is twofold: drive down cost and increase manufacturing scale (volume) for high-resolution thermal imaging without sacrificing performance. Under the award, Obsidian will deliver thermal cameras at attritable price points, using its proprietary Large Area MEMS Platform (LAMP) manufacturing process.

LAMP represents a fundamental departure from the thermal imaging industry's conventional manufacturing approach. Rather than fabricating MEMS thermal sensors on expensive silicon wafers, Obsidian fabricates its proprietary MEMS structures on large glass substrates 20 times larger in area than an 8-inch wafer — inside a standard flat-panel display factory. The approach allows Obsidian to leverage the scale, throughput, and cost structure of the display industry rather than the semiconductor industry to produce thermal imaging sensors.

Obsidian is already shipping VGA-resolution thermal cameras at prices consistent with the cost guidelines set out under the Drone Dominance program, and the company is on track to unveil its next resolution tier, SVGA, by the end of this year, followed by SXGA in 2027.

"The thermal imaging industry has made great strides in improving performance and resolution over the past 30 years, but the production strategy got locked into a high-cost proposition," said John Hong, co-founder and CEO of Obsidian Sensors. "We set out to change the cost and manufacturing scale aspects of the technology with something new, and succeeded — and fortuitously, it is a capability that is becoming a critical support for the Drone Dominance program. At scale, our technology will be an order of magnitude lower in cost than incumbents."

"What we do in the days to come, not just on the DUTCH program but also the spin-up of our new packaging factory in San Diego, will be foundational to making attritable-priced thermal imaging the new standard, not the exception," said Tallis Chang, co-founder and COO of Obsidian Sensors.

About Obsidian Sensors

Obsidian Sensors is a San Diego, California-based thermal imaging company developing high-resolution uncooled thermal cameras manufactured at scale using its proprietary Large Area MEMS Platform (LAMP) process. By fabricating MEMS thermal sensors on Gen 4.5 glass substrates within standard flat-panel display factories — rather than on conventional 8-inch silicon wafers — Obsidian is able to produce thermal imaging sensors at significantly lower cost and higher volume than legacy manufacturing approaches allow. Obsidian's cameras are already deployed at VGA resolution in volume, with SVGA and SXGA formats in development to support next-generation defense and commercial applications, including uncrewed aerial systems, loitering munitions, and other attritable platforms.

First Waste Workers in Sacramento Join Teamsters Local 150

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Waste Management workers in Sacramento, Calif., have voted to join Teamsters Local 150. The 69 drivers, mechanics, and welders overcame a vicious union-busting campaign to secure strong Teamsters representation.

"This win was a long time coming, and it did not come easy. Waste Management went to desperate lengths trying to stop us from unionizing — everything from forcing us to attend captive audience meetings to spending huge amounts of money on union busters," said Francisco Covarrubias, a seven-year Waste Management worker and proud new Teamster. "Waste Management's aggression only made it clearer why we need a strong union in our corner. Now that we're Teamsters, we can finally start working to negotiate a first contract that forces management to treat us with respect."

The new Teamsters provide waste collection services throughout the capital of California. They are the first waste workers in the city of Sacramento to join the Teamsters.

"Local 150 is very proud of our new brothers and sisters for driving this victory. Waste Management was ruthless in trying to block them from becoming Teamsters. But the company's union busting only made these workers stronger," said Dale Wentz, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 150. "This is Local 150's first waste organizing win in the City of Sacramento. We look forward to continuing to expand our reach throughout the city using the playbook these workers courageously wrote."

Waste Management is the largest solid waste and recycling company in North America. Last year, the company's workers generated $25 billion in revenue. The Teamsters Union proudly represents thousands of Waste Management workers across the country.

Teamsters Local 150 represents approximately 9,000 members across Northern California, primarily in Sacramento. For more information, go to teamsters150.org.

Cortisol Face: What the Viral Trend Gets Wrong About Stress, Say Laser by Aleya Experts

Cortisol Face: What the Viral Trend Gets Wrong About Stress, Say Laser by Aleya Experts

GREAT NECK, N.Y., Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Search "cortisol face," and the internet will tell you a lot: puffy cheeks, a moon-shaped jawline, and a supplement to fix it. What you likely won't find is that "moon face," the medical sign the term borrows from, is a marker of a rare hormonal disorder. It has almost nothing to do with a stressful week at work.

Laser by Aleya, a laser hair removal and electrolysis studio in New York, is publishing a guide separating the viral claim from the actual clinical picture. It also covers something the trend never mentions: a real hormonal link between cortisol and unwanted facial hair.

Cortisol Face: Where the Term Came From and What It Claims

As used online, cortisol face describes general facial puffiness attributed to stress, usually paired with advice to lower cortisol through supplements, diet changes, or lifestyle tweaks. It is not a diagnosis and not a clinical term. It borrows its visual language from a real medical sign, then applies that sign to an everyday appearance concern most people can relate to, which is a large part of why it caught on.

What Moon Face Actually Is, and Why the Distinction Matters

Moon face is a specific medical change in facial shape associated with conditions such as Cushing syndrome, a genuine but rare endocrine disorder. According to StatPearls, one hallmark of true moon face is that the earlobes aren't visible when the face is viewed straight on, a specific feature that ordinary stress-related puffiness doesn't produce.

Roughly two to three cases per million are caused by a tumor, and the most common cause overall is prolonged use of corticosteroid medication, not stress. Per the Merck Manual, moderately elevated cortisol is common and non-specific, and frequently reflects obesity, depression, or polycystic ovary syndrome rather than a cortisol disorder. More detail on the condition is available through the National Institutes of Health.

Stress Acne: What the Link Really Looks Like

Stress doesn't cause acne out of nowhere, but it can make existing acne worse. Per the American Academy of Dermatology, stress prompts glands to produce more oil, which can worsen breakouts in people already prone to them.

That's a narrower claim than the viral framing suggests, and it's worth being precise about. Stress acne is a real pattern worth understanding, not evidence that stress alone can trigger a hormonal skin condition.

How Does Stress Affect Skin? Beyond the Viral Claims

Outside of acne specifically, stress is associated with a handful of modest, well-documented skin effects: slower wound healing, more reactive skin barrier function, and flare-ups of existing conditions like eczema or psoriasis.

None of that amounts to a new diagnosis, and none of it produces the kind of structural facial change that moon face describes. The gap between "stress affects skin" and "stress causes cortisol face" is exactly where the viral version of this topic overreaches.

The Part Nobody Covers: Cortisol, Androgens and Unwanted Hair

Here's what the trend leaves out entirely. Genuine cortisol excess doesn't only affect the face; it can also affect hair growth. StatPearls lists hirsutism, excess coarse facial and body hair, among the recognized cutaneous manifestations of hypercortisolism. This is because the same adrenal pathways that affect cortisol also influence androgen production.

That means unwanted facial hair can sometimes be a hormonal signal rather than a cosmetic inconvenience, and a hair removal studio is often the first place someone raises that concern, sometimes before they've mentioned it to a physician at all.

Laser by Aleya's guide to common causes of unwanted hair growth explains that hormonal changes are one of several distinct drivers behind excess hair, alongside genetics and certain medications.

For anyone whose primary concern is the hair itself rather than an underlying diagnosis, facial hair removal for women addresses the follicle directly, regardless of what's driving its growth.

When to Stop Scrolling and See a Doctor

A physician, not a supplement or a search engine, is the right next step when facial changes appear alongside:

- New or worsening coarse facial or body hair, especially alongside irregular periods or scalp hair thinning

- Unexplained weight gain concentrated in the face, neck, or abdomen

- Easy bruising, new stretch marks, or muscle weakness that wasn't there before

- Any of the above alongside prolonged use of corticosteroid medication

These patterns, taken together, warrant an endocrinologist's evaluation. Some people arriving at the term cortisol face are noticing genuine, undiagnosed symptoms, and the goal here is to help them recognize that, not to wave the concern away as internet noise.

Cortisol Face, Hormonal Hair and What a Clinic Can Actually Treat

Laser and electrolysis treat the hair, not what's driving it. If a hormonal cause goes untreated, whether diagnosed or not, new follicles can keep getting stimulated, so maintenance sessions may still be needed after a strong initial response. That's not a hidden catch, but rather what sets expectations from the start.

"We get clients who mention a stray chin hair almost as a throwaway comment, and it's usually the third or fourth thing they bring up in a consultation, not the first," said Aleya Bamdad, Founder & CEO of Laser by Aleya. "If it's new, coarse, and showed up alongside other changes, we'll say plainly that we can treat the hair but not whatever's causing it, and that seeing a doctor first is the right call, not a detour from treatment."

Anyone who wants to talk through what's actually driving their unwanted hair, hormonal or otherwise, can schedule a consultation directly with the studio.

Electra and The Atlas Group Sign Airframe Agreement for EL9 Ultra Short
Image File
Original HTML

MANASSAS, Va. and WICHITA, Kan., Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Electra and The Atlas Group today announced a landmark airframe agreement for the EL9 Ultra Short airplane, pairing Electra's innovative aircraft design with Atlas's proven aerospace manufacturing expertise as the program advances through flight test, certification, and toward scaled commercial production.

Electra is developing the EL9 Ultra Short to open the door to Direct Aviation: a new model of regional travel that brings air service closer to where people live, work and play. In carrying nine passengers and meaningful payload while taking off and landing in as little as 150 feet, the EL9 can operate from dramatically smaller spaces, enabling shorter, more direct journeys between communities rather than routing travelers via long drives or through distant, congested airports.

Under the agreement, Atlas will manufacture and assemble EL9 airframes for Electra's flight test and certification program. Work is scheduled to begin this month at Atlas' facilities, with first deliveries expected in 2027. The partnership marks a significant milestone on Electra's path to certification and commercial entry into service, drawing on Atlas's deep experience in aerospace manufacturing, complex aerostructures, production system development, and automated manufacturing.

The two teams will work closely to mature the EL9 production architecture, reduce manufacturing risk, and build the industrial foundation needed to scale output after certification.

"Today's agreement with The Atlas Group is another great milestone in Electra's journey to open a new era of aviation," said Marc Allen, CEO of Electra. "The EL9 is designed to transform how people travel and where aviation serves us all. Realizing this vision requires more than a breakthrough aircraft; it requires the ability to build and deliver it with the consistency and scale of an advanced production system. Atlas, with its manufacturing expertise and aerospace discipline, now joins us in turning the EL9 from a new kind of airplane into a new way of connecting communities."

"We are excited to be a part of the Electra team as we engage in transforming a groundbreaking hybrid-electric aircraft concept into a producible, scalable platform," said Greg Harwell, CEO of The Atlas Group. "Atlas brings decades of expertise in aerospace manufacturing, industrialization, and supply chain execution to help bridge the gap between innovation and production, ensuring the EL9 is positioned for successful growth and long-term market adoption."

The EL9 is a nine-passenger hybrid-electric aircraft designed to take off and land in as little as 150 feet, enabling operations from locations far smaller and closer to where people live, work and travel than conventional airports. Its blown-lift aerodynamics and distributed electric propulsion work together to generate the lift needed for Ultra Short operations, while a turbogenerator supplies the onboard electrical power required for practical regional range and payload.

In combining the accessibility of a helicopter with the speed, comfort and operational flexibility of a fixed-wing airplane, the EL9 is designed to make direct regional air travel practical. It is intended to deliver quiet, safe, affordable service with meaningful payload and practical range from more locations than traditional aircraft can today serve.

The Atlas agreement comes as Electra moves rapidly from demonstrating Ultra Short technology toward certification, production and commercialization of the EL9.

In July, the FAA formally established the EL9's certification basis, defining the framework for several industry firsts including distributed hybrid-electric propulsion, blown lift for ultra-short takeoff and landing, and advanced fly-by-wire flight controls. Electra has also entered a life-of-program development and production agreement with Safran for the TG600 turbogenerator that will power the EL9.

Electra has selected Springfield, Ohio, as the home of its first EL9 production facility. The planned $850 million investment will create nearly 2,000 jobs and is designed to ultimately support production of up to 800 aircraft annually. Together, Electra's production campus and a growing network of experienced aerospace partners are creating the industrial base needed to move the EL9 from certification into high-rate commercial production.

Those investments are being driven by a regional mobility market that already exists at significant scale. Electra's Direct Aviation Market Outlook identifies approximately 35 million passenger trips each day across U.S. regional routes between 50 and 500 miles. In the heart of the market, trips between roughly 50 and 250 miles are too long to drive and too short to fly, leaving most travelers with few practical alternatives.

Electra estimates that serving the modeled Direct Aviation market between 2030 and 2040 will require 12,000 to 16,000 EL9 aircraft. The company has secured more than 2,200 provisional aircraft orders from more than 60 operators worldwide, and earlier this year Bristow Group entered into a pre-delivery payment agreement securing the first EL9 delivery slot for five aircraft, with options for an additional 45, subject to certification.

The EL9 is targeting entry into commercial service in 2030.

Electra.aero, Inc. (Electra) is an advanced air mobility (AAM) company building hybrid-electric Ultra Short airplanes that deliver unprecedented performance advantages to fly people and cargo seamlessly without airports, emissions, or noise. Electra's Ultra Short technology delivers 2.5x the payload and 10x longer range with 70% lower operating costs than helicopters and eVTOLs with significantly greater safety and far less certification risk.

Electra's team includes some of the most respected and successful entrepreneurs and engineers in novel aircraft design, with over 40 prior aircraft successfully developed and/or certified. Lockheed Martin Ventures, Honeywell Aerospace, and Safran are among Electra's strategic investors along with Prysm Capital, the Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation (VIPC), and other private investors. Electra's contracted customers include the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy, and NASA along with over 2,200 letters of intent from 60+ commercial customers, including both airlines and helicopter operators.

Gen Z Are the Most Skeptical of AI-Powered Travel Planning, New Data Shows
Image File
Original HTML

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- As artificial intelligence (AI) adoption continues to grow rapidly, new survey data from leading travel insurance marketplace Squaremouth reveals four surprising trends when it comes to AI and travel planning.

1. AI Usage For Trip Planning Has Doubled Year Over Year

In 2025, the share of travelers who said they never used AI for trip planning dropped from 63.1% last year to 27.6% this year. Meanwhile, 18.7% now say they use AI to help plan every trip they take.

2. Gen Z Travelers Emerge as the Most AI-Skeptical Generation

Despite being the generation most closely associated with AI adoption, Gen Z are the least convinced it belongs in their travel experience. Only 38.0% of Gen Z respondents strongly agreed that AI is integral to how they travel, compared with 55.7% of Gen X, 52.7% of Millennials, and 45.5% of Boomers.

This isn't just lukewarm interest. Gen Z also expressed the strongest skepticism, with 31.0% strongly disagreeing that AI is integral to their travel experience, compared to 24.6% of Millennials, 21.2% of Boomers, and 18.4% of Gen X respondents.

3. Trust In AI Remains Low, Despite High Adoption

Although AI usage is increasing, only 16.7% of travelers have high or complete trust in AI. This includes using AI for tasks such as entering payment information or buying tickets. That said, 36.5% of travelers express "average trust," a sentiment consistent across generations.

4. Travelers Want AI to Explain, Not Make Decisions

Overall, when asked how they would like to see AI used by travel insurance companies, like Squaremouth, results across generations were as follows:

- 71.2% want AI to provide plain-English summaries of what each plan covers.

- 51.9% desire side-by-side comparisons of different plans.

- 50.7% want a chat feature that answers questions like, "Does this cover X?"

"AI usage for travel planning continues to grow; however, just because travelers use it doesn't necessarily mean they trust it," explains Jacquelline Mondelli, Chief Marketing Officer at Squaremouth. "Travelers still want to be the ones making important decisions, so they're more interested in AI when it's helping them better understand their options rather than deciding for them."

Archive360 and Caju AI Partner to Unify Governance Across Digital Communications

Joint solution combines real-time communications governance and policy enforcement with enterprise retention, supervision, eDiscovery and AI-ready data governance

NEW YORK, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Archive360, a leader in enterprise data and AI governance for regulated enterprises and government agencies, today announced a strategic partnership with Caju AI, a provider of AI-driven governance and actionable intelligence solutions for mobile and digital communications. Together, the companies enable organizations to govern business communications across WhatsApp, SMS, iMessage, Signal, Telegram, WeChat and other messaging channels alongside email, collaboration platforms and other enterprise data.

Business communications increasingly span email, collaboration platforms and mobile messaging applications. As organizations also begin using AI agents to interact with employees and customers, the number and complexity of digital conversations requiring governance will continue to grow. When these communications off-channel or sit outside established retention and supervision workflows, they create gaps in recordkeeping, investigations, privacy, data residency and eDiscovery.

The integrated solution combines real-time communications governance, policy enforcement and risk detection with enterprise retention, search, discovery, access controls and auditability. Caju AI captures mobile and digital communications and applies policy controls as conversations occur, including interactions involving people and AI agents. Archive360 preserves the communications and associated context within a governed environment, enabling organizations to apply retention and legal hold policies, manage access, search data and support supervision, investigations and eDiscovery.

The joint solution is currently deployed across the Archive360 customer base. The company will use the solution to govern business communications across email, Microsoft Teams, Slack, Signal, Telegram and WhatsApp. Bringing these channels into a consistent governance environment is intended to help the company support applicable recordkeeping and supervision requirements, apply retention schedules and legal holds, and produce complete, auditable records for regulatory examinations, investigations and eDiscovery.

"Enterprises need comprehensive governance across an expanding universe of digital communications, but a single vendor rarely delivers equal depth across every channel and capability," said Jerry Caviston, CEO of Archive360. "By combining Caju AI's specialized communications capture, real-time policy enforcement and intelligence with Archive360's enterprise retention, discovery and governance capabilities, we give organizations the breadth of an integrated platform without sacrificing best-of-breed depth and flexibility."

"Digital communications have become central to how business gets done, and AI agents are beginning to participate in those conversations," said Otavio Freire, CEO of Caju AI. "Our partnership with Archive360 connects real-time governance with enterprise retention and discovery, helping organizations extend consistent controls to the channels their employees, customers and AI agents use while creating a foundation for actionable intelligence."

About Caju AI

Caju AI delivers agentic AI-driven governance and actionable intelligence solutions for next-generation communications and CRM platforms.
